Britt Baker Wants To Go ‘All In’ On Moné; Willow Nightingale Gets Her Revenge

Happy pre-Independence Day everyone! Before most of the American public takes a day off tomorrow, AEW Dynamite hangs ten for their explosive Beach Break special tonight.

To kick off the night, Renee Paquette is backstage talking to Willow Nightingale before her semi-final match in the Owen Hart Cup Tournament against Kris Statlander. Despite being brought down by the odds at bay, Nightingale is determined to go out there with a smile.

Later on, Paquette is also backstage talking with AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm and Mariah May. May goes head-to-head with Hikaru Shida in the semi-finals of the Owen Hart Cup Tournament, this Friday on Rampage. Storm gives some encouragement to May, and even says that Mina Shirakawa is watching via satellite.

Next, is the heated matchup between Nightingale and Statlander. And before the match can even begin, the two start trading blows on the entrance ramp and Statlander takes a tumble down to the ring due to a wild Pounce. The bell finally rings and the two are determined to get revenge, even playing dirty as Statlander pokes the eyes of Nightingale.

The two are back and forth and come out with some big moves, but just can’t seem to put each other away.

As a last resort, Stokeley hands Statlander some chains to finally end it once and for all, but Statlander miscues almost hitting Stokeley. Nightingale rolls Statlander up and gets the win to advance to the finals.

After her long-awaited return at Forbidden Door, Britt Baker is back on Dynamite to address the crowd. Baker explains her absence for the past 10 months and says she suffered from a Transient Ishemic Attack (TIA) and couldn’t feel the right side of her body. She tells the fans that she feels healthy and ready to get back in action. In regards to the new face of TBS, she says the only three letters that matter is D.M.D.

Meanwhile, Mercedes Moné arrives to the arena in style and is ready to celebrate her new reign as Two Beltz Moné. The crew sets up the celebration, meanwhile Baker is still in the ring.

Moné doesn’t take too kindly to Baker taking her spotlight, and the crowd doesn’t take too kindly to Moné either. Baker iterates that she is the one who helped build the division and she wants to go All In on Moné. The TBS Champion tells her to shove it and get to the back of the line. Baker proceeds to ask “Bitch, What Line?” Moné acknowledges Baker’s fan behavior and leaves dropping another line of hers.

What did you think of AEW Dynamite’s Beach Break special? Are you All In for Mercedes Moné vs Britt Baker?

Tonight’s Dynamite as the fall out from Forbidden Door:

Vice & Perez Have Intense Exchange Ahead of Heatwave! Jaida Parker Scores Big Win Against Michin

0

Hey everyone! Final episode of NXT prior to Heatwave this Sunday, it’s a jam packed show so let’s get right into it!

Jaida Parker vs. Michin in a Street Fight

Michin brought out a trashcan full of weapons and started the action on the floor. After sending Parker into the steps and grabbing a chain, Michin missed her target but quickly recovered, sending Parker inside and getting blasted with a trashcan lid in return. A Samoan drop from Parker earned a near fall, but Michin retaliated with a German suplex and some belt whips. The battle moved outside, where Michin used a chair to the ribs and posted Parker, who countered with a chair setup and a failed dive, leading to a nasty landing.

After the break, Michin piled up chairs and bolts, but her package piledriver attempt was countered, sending her into the pile instead. Despite this, she continued with kendo stick shots and a cannonball with a trashcan over Parker’s head for a near fall. As the match neared its end, Parker countered Michin’s steel pipe with a fire extinguisher blast and a hip attack through a wooden wall, finishing with a running hip attack for the win.

Winner: Jaida Parker

Backstage in the lockerroom with Karmen Petrovic is doing something with the handle of her sword while Arianna Grace is huffing in the background seeking attention. Arianna says Sol snatched her soul last week and with it, her heart. She’s devastated over not being able to perform in her hometown of Toronto. Jacy Jayne and Jazmyn Nyx interrupt and we get some shade. Karmen’s having a hard time fitting in it seems.

Kelani Jordan vignette touting her accomplishments and athletic background, then goes into her inaugural title victory. Lani’s gonna make it happen at NXT Heatwave when she defends the Women’s North American Championship against Sol Ruca

Brinley Reece vs Izzi Dame

Straight up power from Izzi to start the match. Cool swinging sit out side slam by Dame but Brinley is no slouch either, she’s fast on the uptake and starts to gain momentum on Izzi. Tatum Paxley appears at ringside, that was random. Standing vertical suplex into a falcon arrow by Dame for the win in under 3 minutes.

Winner: Izzi Dame

Next we have an in ring face off between Lola and Roxanne. These two really went for an incredibly ambitious promo. Lola shared her personal struggles, showing remarkable vulnerability for all of us watching thus turning babyface in the process. Roxanne wants nothing more than to be considered one of the all time greats, she keeps challenging herself both in the ring and on the mic which is what you’re supposed to do in developmental. Personally, I don’t think the delivery was consistent throughout the segment from either. It wasn’t bad by any means but it was lengthy. I’d like it if Roxanne would try to deviate away from her AJ Lee inspiration. The star quality is there for both of these performers but this was just like I said, a very ambitious promo.

Carlee Bright vs. Wendy Choo

Kendal Grey is out in Carlee’s corner, Bright starts with strong with kicks, but Choo quickly took control, always appreciate a character driven performance and Wendy is giving it to me. Choo tied Bright in the Tree of Woe for a running dropkick, but Bright fought back with a series of clotheslines. However, Choo countered a standing moonsault attempt with raised knees and applied a cobra clutch, forcing Bright to tap out for the short victory.

Winner: Wendy Choo

Karmen Petrovic vs. Jazmyn Nyx

Jacy Jayne accompanied Nyx as they battled over wrist control, with Petrovic knocking Nyx down and hitting a running basement Blockbuster for two. Jayne’s distraction didn’t work, but Nyx took over with a kick to the ribs and a Shining Wizard for a near fall, followed by a figure four necklock. Petrovic managed a rollup that seemed to pin Nyx, but it only resulted in a near fall. Petrovic fired off some elbows, but another distraction from Jayne allowed Nyx to kick Petrovic in the face for the pin.

Winner: Jazmyn Nyx

After the match Karmen Petrovic is backstage talking to Ava, after some back and forth we get a tag match with Arianna Grace/Petrovic vs. Jacy Jayne/Jazmyn Nyx. This match will take place at Heatwave on the pre-show.

Authors Thoughts:

Overall pretty fun show in preparation for Heatwave. A great bounce back from NXT after not getting a ton of content last week from the women. Lola vs. Roxanne is the biggest attraction on the women’s side going into Heatwave and while I have a hard time believe Roxanne could be dethroned… Lola has been built up nicely since winning the breakout tournament. It’s not as out of the question as the champ would like to make us believe.

Tyra Mae Steele Set For Debut On NXT Level Up

0

Tyra Mae Steele (Tamyra Mensah-Stock) will be making her TV debut on NXT Level Up. The match was taped prior to the July 2 NXT episode and she faced Wren Sinclair.

Mensah-Stock made her in-ring debut at the NXT live event on March 30. Her last live match was the end of May where she was victorious against Kendal Grey.

Mensah-Stock was the Olympic champion at women’s freestyle 68 kilograms at the Tokyo Games in 2021, becoming the first Black woman to win gold in freestyle wrestling.

Here we are for the last show before Heatwave!

Kelly Kelly Teases Coming Out Of Retirement To Help NXT Talent

0

The former Divas Champion Kelly Kelly may have to show the NXT locker room who “mother” truly is.

On the July 2 episode of NXT we will see Wendy Choo take on Carlee Bright. Ahead of their match today, Choo took to social media to call Bright, “Kelly Kelly’s daughter.”

Kelly noticed this and commented herself by saying, “Ohhhhhh does mother need to come out of retirement??? @CarleeBrightWWE let me know girl I got you!!!”

Kelly has gone on record recently saying she would love to have another wrestling run. In March, she said, “I would be open to a comeback. We’ll see. I want my twins to come and watch me one day.”

Bright responded:

NXT Preview, July 2: Roxanne Perez And Lola Vice Come Face to Face

0

NXT looks to be very promising for the women tonight on July 2! There are many matches confirmed as well as Roxanne Perez and Lola Vice going face-to-face just days before their title match at Heatwave this Sunday.

First lets give a rundown of the matches scheduled:

  • Michin vs. Jaida Parker – Street Fight
  • Brinley Reece vs. Izzi Dame
  • Wendy Choo vs. Carlee Bright

Michin and Parker have been on this collision course for quite some time and also tangled in the Women’s North American Title Ladder Match at Battleground.

Last week, Parker had had enough as she would stop Kelly Kincaid from sending the feed back to commentary. She laid out the challenge to Michin after a previous blindside. Michin had her own chance to respond later in a promo. With a steel chair in hand, Michin snaps and asks her to show her how she is going to run her out of NXT.

Wendy Choo returned a few weeks ago and this is a different Choo we have come to know and love. This is the nightmare version. She has targeted upon her return newcomers Carlee Bright and Kendal Grey. She will be going against Bright tonight. Choo cost a match of Bright’s against Fallon Henley a couple of weeks ago when she attacked Grey from behind.

Roxanne and Lola’s rivalry has intensified as it was confirmed last week they will have a title match at Heatwave. After teaming up two weeks ago, Roxanne attacked Lola. Lola responded last week by stealing the championship belt which ended up in Ava’s office.

Tonight the two will come face-to-face before their big clash.

Liv Morgan Retains Championship Against Vega! Zoey Stark Earns Final Spot in MITB

0

Welcome back to Monday Night Raw and last night was the go home show for Money in the Bank! Unfortunately we do not have a Women’s World Title match on the card but we do have a title defense between Zelina Vega vs. Liv Morgan to recap as well as the final MITB qualifier! Let’s get to it below:

Women’s World Title Match: Liv Morgan vs. Zelina Vega

Vega starts out strong with a springboard armdrag. Morgan’s offense was cut short by a dropkick to the floor as Dominik Mysterio arrived, causing a distraction. Vega capitalized with a Meteora, Rey Mysterio appears to continue both stories.

Returning from a break, Morgan executed Three Amigos and applied Rhea Ripley‘s Prism Trap. Zelina hits a moonsault for a near fall. Morgan countered with a hurricanrana, never letting Dirty D he’s on her mind during the title bout. Vega hits  a big Code Red, but Morgan escapes before Zelina can capitalize. Rey’s intervention led to Morgan hitting him with a baseball slide. Vega’s 619 into a tornado DDT got a two-count. Dominik’s throws a chair into the ring with Morgan capitalizing on the distraction, hitting Oblivion for the win.

Winner: Liv Morgan

The match focused more on the dynamic between Morgan and Dominik, but I thought Zelina looked good and her near falls were believable enough to have me invested. Morgan and Dominik remain the show’s highlights, with anticipation building for future events. Post match interview with Cathy Kelly, Liv Morgan Revenge Tour is going as planned with Liv dedicating her victory to her “daddy,” Dominik Mysterio

MITB Qualifying Match: Dakota Kai vs. Ivy Nile vs. Zoey Stark

Final qualifying match, all of these matches have been a treat to watch with this being no different. Lots of kick exchanges happening between competitors, interestingly enough all the participants of the triple threat are members of tag teams that play the Janetty role in their respective groups, so it’s great to see each of them get a chance to shine. Damage CTRL looks to interfere on Kai’s behalf cue The Unholy Union to come out and get revenge from the prior attack. Distraction allows Zoey to hit the Z360 on Kai for the win.

Winner: Zoey Stark

I know a lot of people, including myself, were hoping for a Dakota win here but the match furthered the storyline they’re telling between two teams in the tag division while pushing Zoey forward. Good stuff all around.

This now has the total MITB field set: IYO SKY, Chelsea Green, Lyra Valkyria, Tiffany Stratton, Naomi, and Zoey Stark.

Liv/Zelina isn’t done yet for the evening. As Liv comes to cheer on Dominik in his match against Rey later in the night, she ends up getting into an altercation with Zelina at ringside. Potentially a mixed tag team match next week?

Damage CTRL being interviewed backstage and Kai is not happy after her loss and here is Lyra Valkyria to make it worse. They exchange words before Kayden and Katana charge in as a brawl ensues that is quickly broken up.

Final Raw going into MITB was pretty good, I know a lot of us were hoping Dakota would be the last to qualify but Zoey is tailor fit for these types of matches. Plus having the chip on your shoulder of something to prove always produces entertaining results. Hopefully Kiana gets a more prominent role on the show coming out of MITB.

Not much continuity with the Shayna/Zoey/Sonya stuff either and Nattie didn’t appear but all in all a good go home show. Sound off in the comments with who you think will win this Sunday!

Raw Discussion Post: 07.01.24

Tonight’s show is the final Raw before Money in the Bank this Saturday.

Latest On Natalya’s WWE Contract

0

WWE is staying tight lipped on if the veteran Natalya will be re-signing with the company.

Natalya was last seen a few weeks ago backstage speaking with Sonya Deville. After her loss against Kiana James on the June 3 Raw, Natalya told Deville that something needed to change.

Per Fightful Select it’s still very unclear if Natalya is staying with WWE.

A veteran name is not backstage at WWE Raw amid contract rumors.

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp has learned that longtime WWE talent Natalya is not backstage at tonight’s WWE Raw, and is not planned for the show this evening. Natalya’s WWE deal has been set to expire this summer, and at least internally, the company is very quiet about any developments.

We have confirmed the two sides have been engaged in contract extension talks. This development doesn’t indicate the direction of those talks one way or another. Sources in WWE have been hopeful they would retain her, but we’ve not heard if a new deal has been reached.

There have been numerous talent and staff in AEW who pushed for the possibility of Natalya joining the company. Mercedes Mone alluded to both Natalya and TJ Wilson during a recent interview.

Dr. Britt Baker To Appear On July 3 Dynamite, Has A Lot To Say

Dr. Britt Baker made her return to AEW programming over the weekend at the Forbidden Door event.

While making her presence known, Baker simply traded glances with the new double champion Mercedes Moné. Moné had just captured the NJPW Strong Women’s Title. This would be the first type of interaction on screen between the two. Baker has not had a match since September of last year.

While trying to get a word with Baker, Lexy Nair was told that she has a lot to say and will be saying it this Wednesday on Dynamite.

Also on Dynamite we are down to the final four in the semi-finals of the Owen Hart Cup. The winner to receive a future title opportunity. Last year’s winner Willow Nightingale will take on her friend turned foe Kris Statlander.

Raw Preview, July 1: Last Woman To Qualify For MITB

0

We’ve reached the last Monday Night Raw before the big Money in the Bank event this weekend. The Money in the Bank Ladder Match will have its sixth and final woman determined tonight.

A final triple threat is set to take place and either Zoey Stark, Dakota Kai, or Ivy Nile will be the last woman to qualify. The winner will join the already qualified contenders, IYO SKY, Chelsea Green, Lyra Valkyria, Tiffany Stratton, and Naomi.

We will also get a Women’s World Title match. The champion Liv Morgan will be facing Zelina Vega. Vega and Morgan have created a feud a few weeks ago, as Vega is focused on becoming champion while Morgan is only focused on Dom Dom. Will the distraction with Dom help Vega win her first singles championship?

The CEO Becomes Two Beltz Moné, Meets The DMD; Storm Retains And Makes Up With Shirakawa

Worlds collided and titles were at stake as the AEW Women’s Division is in Long Island, New York for the annual AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view.

The AEW Women’s World Championship is up for grabs tonight as Artist of Stardom Champion Mina Shirakawa challenges the champion, “Timeless” Toni Storm. This match has been brewing since Storm’s surprise reappearance in Stardom back in April. Storm had invited Shirakawa to break down the Forbidden Door and since then Shirakawa has been captivating the AEW fans for the past couple of months.

Mariah May has been unfortunately caught in the middle, being the former Club Venus tag team partner of Shirakawa’s during her time in Stardom and being the protegé of Storm during her transition into AEW. Regardless of the two’s conflict, she offers her flowers to both women.

Shirakawa arrives with her signature entrance dance, and Storm arrives as Lady Liberty herself.

The challenger flaunts the Champion during the onset of the match, but Storm is taking this challenge very seriously. Shirakawa isn’t all games as she hits a figure-four leglock on the ring post and targets Storm’s knee during the match. Storm manages to fight back against Shirakawa, but the match is all Mina. Eventually, both find themselves on the top rope and Shirakawa hits a DDT from the top followed up with another one.

After struggling a bit, Shirakawa finally connects the Glamorous Driver, but Storm miraculously kicks out. Despite Shirakawa’s continuous offense, Storm suddenly pulls off a Storm Zero to retain her title.

Post-match, May makes her way to the ring conflicted at the outcome. And despite being at odds, Shirakawa tearfully thanks Storm for the match and hug it out. And much to May’s relief, she seals off the night as all three kiss and makeup…literally!

In a title-for-title match, the TBS Champion Mercedes Moné looks to defend her championship while also challenging CMLL World Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer, as she also puts the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship on the line. Moné looks to become a two-time champion and gain a title that many say was created for her in the first place. And Vaquer looks to add another piece of gold to the three titles she already possesses.

While the referee explains the rules to both opponents, Vaquer takes advantage and headbutts Moné to get a dirty start. Moné and her experience edge does not let that stop her and manages to gain back power quickly.

Moné and Vaquer are both matched as they both showcase their lucha styles. The two manage to make it outside the ring, and Vaquer hits a springboard crossbody to the outside as she gains control over the match. Moné from here on out can’t seem to adapt to Vaquer’s unique offense.

In a last-ditch attempt, Vaquer launches herself from the top rope as Moné finds an opportunity to hit a dropkick while airborne. Moné continuously tries to lock in a Moné Maker, but Vaquer finds a counter each time.

The two kip up and trade blows and Vaquer locks a familiar crossface but Moné finds a counter into a crossface of her own. Vaquer powers through and drives her knees into Moné.

Per her Boston status, Moné has angered the crowd and hits a sequence of double knees of her own into Vaquer. However, Moné miscues her dive and Vaquer manages to twist her ankle in the corner. Moné is battered, but powers through to finally find an opening for the Moné Maker and lock in the Crossface to become the new NJPW Strong Women’s Champion.

Moné relishes in her victory and taunts the crowd. But, the celebration is cut short as “The DMD” Britt Baker makes her long-awaited return to AEW and her appearance alone sends a statement toward the CEO.

What did you think of Forbidden Door tonight? How were both championship matches? And where will the CEO and the DMD go from here? Let us know your thoughts below.

Mariah May Advances To Semi-Finals; Tam Nakano Wins At Forbidden Door Zero Hour

On the stacked card that is AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door tonight, women representing both AEW and Stardom kick off the event during its Zero Hour pre-show.

Last week, Kris Statlander issued a challenge to former partner Willow Nightingale. The two face off in the next round of the Owen Hart Cup Tournament this Wednesday on Dynamite, but tonight is just a warmup. Statlander has chosen Momo Watanabe as her partner. To meet the opposition, Nightingale chose a woman whom she faced before, Tam Nakano.

Nakano and Statlander start the match, and Nakano is off to a strong start until the opposing team tries to isolate her in their corner. Nakano manages to get the tag out to Nightingale and finally meets Statlander face-to-face once and for all, until Statlander quickly tags out.

Watanabe warms up Nightingale for Statlander to tag in and take over. Both teams start hitting double-team moves, and Nightingale tries to take out Watanabe from the top rope to no avail. Watanabe uses her strength, but it’s not enough as Willow hits her pounce. Nakano gets the tag in and hits her Hammerlock German Suplex on Watanabe to pick up the win.

Next, is a quarter-final match in the Owen Hart Cup Tournament as Mariah May and Saraya go head-to-head. May is accompanied by Luther and “Timeless” Toni Storm prepping for her AEW Women’s World Championship match, and in Saraya’s corner is Harley Cameron.

Saraya gets distracted during the onset of the match, and May gains an advantage to hit her signature sidewalk slam. May tries to hit the running hip attack in the corner, but Saraya manages to dodge. The two trade blows and Saraya sends May into the steel ring post.

The match is all in Saraya’s favor and May tries to power through the match. Cameron tries to get involved, but Storm takes her out. Saraya hits the Modified Russian Legsweep, but May gets a hold of the ropes just in time. As Saraya is about to lock in the Scorpion Crosslock, May finds a way out and finds an opening to roll Saraya up and advance in the tournament.

Post-match we get an appearance from Mina Shirakawa, celebrating alongside May. But of course, Storm and Shirakawa are at odds before their match tonight.

Liv Morgan Throws First Pitch At Red Sox Game, Mocks Rhea Ripley

The WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan is doing champion things.

On Sunday, Morgan threw the first pitch at Fenway Park Stadium for the Boston Red Sox vs. San Diego Padres game. But Major League Baseball (MLB) wasn’t going to post this without stirring the pot and making sure Dominik Mysterio saw it by tagging him and asking what he thought. Morgan reposted and said she has a better arm than Rhea Ripley, taking a low blow at Ripley’s injury that Morgan caused.

As Morgan was talking about the game, she added that she feels the Padres would FOLD to the Red Sox just as Dominik has. For those wondering, the Padres did lose to the Red Sox in a score of 4 to 1. So maybe Liv is on to something?
