Vickie Guerrero on reinventing herself and when she wanted to return to wrestling

Vickie Guerrero has recently returned to wrestling as she is now the manager of former AEW Women’s World Champion Nyla Rose. This partnership formed at Fight for the Fallen just a couple of weeks ago. Guerrero had previously made appearances in the audience for AEW events and she spoke on her show, Excuse Me: The Vickie Guerrero Show, about the moment where she wanted to get back into the business.

“I think it was me being on [Chris Jericho’s cruise]. You’re surrounded by all the wrestling fans and you see the shows every night,” Vickie explained.

“Me being from where I’ve been with WWE, your brain starts ticking and you start getting ideas. And interviewing the women, most of them were babies at the time except for Penelope. We had ref Aubrey on the panel, Allie and they all sort of had their own storyline going.”

Through her interviews, Rose stood out to her and she started brainstorming on how she would love to work with her. Guerrero spent many years in WWE as both a General Manager and a manager for many talents.

“But I looked at Nyla during the podcast and I thought, man, she would be so much fun to manage. Despite mentioning it, and of course, she loved the idea. And of course, we teased the crowd from the cruise. We had good feedback, but of course, it had to go back to AEW and people had to discuss this. But that was my dream; I said, ‘Well God, if this is going to happen then it’s meant to be, and if not, then it’s okay’.”

“Now, my dream has come true. Nyla and I have some really cool ideas and stuff that we want to plan out for our storylines. There are a lot of women in AEW that we are going to be able to target and that will be the fun part of it.”

Her official debut at Fight for the Fallen already started off in a different manner over her time with WWE. One big change is she has entrance music, which she never had previously. Her ‘Excuse Me’ catchphrase seems to be staying, but she has a different presence about her. She does state that she wants to present a different gimmick and is focused on reinventing herself this time around.

“I don’t want to be the same character that was at WWE coming into AEW. It’s time for me to reinvent myself. I have a new roster and a, as they say, a new playground that’s gonna excite me to interact with the different people on the roster. I think that’s going to have me enjoy this a lot more. I forgot how exciting [it is], and the love I have for inside the ring… It has been a fun ride. I can’t wait for the next time I’m out there.”

Giulia captures the vacant Wonder of STARDOM Championship

Giulia is your new Wonder of STARDOM Champion. The leader of Donna Del Mondo defeated Tam Nakano in the tournament finals for the vacant title.

Credit: STARDOM

The match took place at Cinderella Summer Tokyo at a sold-out Kurokuen Hall earlier today.

A strong back and forth match saw both competitors push each other to their limits. Giulia won the hard-fought contest via referee stoppage when Tam was unable to escape a submission hold and passed out.

Giulia’s tremendous rise in the company continues. The victory now makes Giulia and double champion as she hold the Artists of STARDOM Championship along with the White Belt.

The match was not the only title to change hands at Kurokuen Hall July, 26.

Riho’s High Speed Championship was on the line in Three Way Battle with AZM and Starlight Kid.

Credit: STARDOM

AZM defeated both Riho and Starlight Kid to become the new High Speed Champion. The victory came when AZM pinned Starlight Kid with the Azumi Sushi to win the title.

The next title match on the card had the Goddesses of STARDOM Championships on the line. The titles were vacated earlier this week as Bea Priestley and Jamie Hayter were unable to defend them.

Former champions Jungle Kyona and Konami took on the umber one contenders Utami Hayashishita and Saya Kamitani to declare new champions!

Utami pinned Konami with a German Suplex to win the titles. Utami and Saya are the new Goddesses of STARDOM Champions.

After the match Donna Del Mondo’s Maika and Himeka came out to confront and challenge the new champions.

Also on the card, Maika took on Momo Watanabe. Momo pinned Maika with a top rope Somato

Himeka and Syuri took on Mayu Iwatano and Saya Iida. The Donna Del Mondo duo won the match when Syuri pinned Iida after a Buzzsaw Kick.

Donna Del Mondo’s quest to rule of STARDOM continues as Syuri was accepted as the next challenger for Mayu Iwatani’s World of STARDOM Championship.

Odeo Tai duo Tora Natsuko and Natsu Sumire took on Rina and Death Yama in the second match. Odeo Tai would get the win when Natsuko pinned Rina with a top rope body splash.

In the opening match of the night Saki pinned Hina after My Emblem.

Before the event it was announced that Maika and Himeka had officially signed with STARDOM.

On a sad note, Itsuki Hoshino announced she was retiring from wrestling because of physical ailments. This was her rookie year and she has only been wrestling since 2019. Hoshino showed much promise and was quickly becoming a fan favourite. All at Diva Dirt wish her all the best in her future.

That brings an end to STARDOM’s hectic July schedule. They continue their tremendous run of shows with 5*STAR Grand Prix 2020, which begins on August, 8 & 9 at Korakuen Hall.

Winners & Losers: SmackDown 07.24.20

As a fall out from Extreme Rules, Nikki Cross was still heated from her loss at that event where she wasn’t able to become the SmackDown Women’s Champion. She brought this anger with her to this week’s show. As the show began, Sasha Banks and Bayley made their way to the ring.

Once in the ring they defined what the word Greatness means. Of course it means Sasha Banks and Bayley, but more specifically “the quality or state of being great.”

They then share that the Women’s Evolution era is over and the era of Banks and Bayley is now. Cross would come out and share her grievance of that proclamation. She states that she went into Extreme Rules to grab a title and all she came out of it with is some broken ribs. Bayley tells Cross that she can get a title match against her next week if she were to defeat her best friend Alexa Bliss.

Cross had been nursing her injured ribs throughout the match and Bliss knew that she could focus on that weakness. After a crossbody from Cross landed with nobody home, she played a bit of possum as she quickly would roll up Bliss into a cradle and get the pin for the win. Nikki will get yet another shot against Bayley next week.

After the match, Bliss and Cross at what was at first an awkward conversation backstage. Bliss admitted that Cross deserved this win and got one over on her. The two would hug and then focus on the fact that Cross needs to beat Bayley next week.

The other women of the night revolved around Naomi and Lacey Evans. It was advertised that Naomi would be the guest on Miz TV this week and she would address her recent loss to Evans and her fans causing her to trend on Twitter with the hashtag – #NaomiDeservesBetter. Of course Miz and John Morrison did more mocking of Naomi over being supporting her.

Naomi comments that there has to be a reason why her fans have her back through everything. Through all the bad and the good. The Miz mentions it isn’t the first time Naomi went viral this year. She also went viral when she returned at the Royal Rumble. Morrision chimes in to say she didn’t win that match either. According to the duo the one way that Naomi can overcome this is to start winning.

She states that for the past decade she has been showing up and showing out consistently. She gives it all every time she steps in the ring and that is why her fans always have her back and that is why they want more for her.

Special guest to Miz TV was surprise, surprise – Lacey Evans. Evans enters the ring and starts to taunt Naomi. Evans pulls out her lipstick and compact, and as she is applying it she says that Naomi has been here for a decade and doesn’t have much to show for it. Calls her washed up. Naomi attacks her and the two start to brawl. Naomi stands tall as Evans retreats.

The two will meet next week in the ring.

Next week advertised is also the return of Otis and Mandy Rose with their love story.

Let’s get to the Winners & Losers:

WINNER: Nikki Cross

Cross is the clear winner as she earns her rematch. Everything is going to build towards SummerSlam from here on out, so perhaps they will allow Nikki to win the belt. If that is the case then Sasha and Bayley can just focus on the tag titles. If this pans out then Nikki will probably face Alexa at SummerSlam, but only time will tell how things pan out the next couple of weeks.

WINNER: Naomi

For all intents and purposes, Naomi is a winner of the week. The segment was nothing earth shattering, but she did come out looking good from it. We will see if this actually amounts to her winning next week. If not, then what was the point? It is clear they notice what the audience wants, so give it.

LOSER: Alexa Bliss

Storyline wise, Alexa would wind up on the losing end. Nikki is clearly receiving the push at the moment, and just one person out of a tag team getting the push doesn’t look well for the other. Personally I just want heel Alexa back. She doesn’t need to be pushed to the title necessarily but I think her and Nikki could have a nice feud.

SmackDown Women’s Title match set for 7.31 – Bayley vs. Nikki Cross

On this week’s Friday Night SmackDown, Nikki Cross won another shot at the SmackDown Women’s Championship. She faced her tag team partner and best friend, Alexa Bliss, in a one-on-one match.

Cross picked up the win with a cradle after she seemed to be in trouble due to her injured ribs. The idea of the number one contender match was Bayley‘s saying that if Cross wanted another shot at her title then she would have to earn it.

She recently had a title match against Bayley at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view last weekend. With SummerSlam, a month away, will Bayley still be SmackDown Women’s Champion heading into that event? Could we maybe move on for a feud between Cross and Bliss if Cross is able to take down the longest-reigning SmackDown champ?

What are your thoughts on seeing this match happen, again?

SmackDown Discussion Post: 07.24.20

As Extreme Rules is over and done with, SummerSlam is next. Although the days are moving forward, we still do not have a clear winner for the RAW Women’s Championship. Asuka and Sasha Banks will fight it out on Monday, but for tonight Banks and Bayley will be addressing the controversy.

Along with Banks and Bayley, Naomi is being advertised for tonight as well as she will be on Miz TV. She will be discussing her recent loss last week to Lacey Evans and how her fans have supported her taking social media by storm with #NaomiDeservesBetter.

At this time there hasn’t been any matches announced, but these two segments could break down into a match or two.

Feel free to use the comment section below to discuss tonight’s SmackDown.

Mayu Iwatani retains World of STADOM Championship

Mayu Iwatani is still your World of STARDOM Champion. She retained the title against Jungle Kyona on day 2 of STARDOM’s action-packed two-day event, Cinderella Summer in Nagoya, which took place July, 23 and 24.

Cinderella Summer in Nagoya -Day Two

Mayu Itwatani vs Jungle Kyona for the World of STARDOM Championship was the headline match and the first time the two competitors met in one-on-one action.

With the title challenge taking place in Kyona’s home town, many were expecting the recently returned star to win her first singles championship in the company. However, Iwatani was able to successfully defend the title and continue 263-day reign.

Prior to the championship match, there was an Eight Woman Tag Team match that saw Donna del Mondo take on Queen’s Quest. No winner was determined after the two teams battled it out to a thirty-minute draw.

Also on the card, Riho and Tam Nakona took on Odea Tai’s Tora Natsuko and Natsu Sumire. Riho and Tam won via disqualification when Natsuko went all Natsuko on us and struck the official.

Starlight Kid defeated Death Yama and Sati Kashima in a Three-Way match when she pinned Death. And in the opening match of the night, Konami defeated Saya Iida.

That brings us to the end of Cinderella Summer in Nagoya Day Two, so let’s get to the action of the opening night.

Cinderella Summer in Nagoya – Day One

The July, 23 show was all about the Artist of STARDOM Championships on the line. Champions, Donna Del Mondo trio of Giulia, Maika and Syuri took on Odeo Tai trio of Tora Natsuka, Natsu Sumire and Saki Kashima.

The match was made at New Summer 2020 – Day 1 on July, 11 when Saki challenged Donna del Mondo for the Artist of Stardom Championships after she pinned Giulia with a surprise roll-up. It was Giulia’s first loss in STARDOM and a massive shock to the leader of Donna del Mondo. So passions were running high heading into this main event match.

Donna del Mondo would retain the titles when Giulia got her revenge of Saki and pinned her with a Glorious Driver for the win.

Also on the show we saw Mayu Iwatani and Tam Nakano teamed to face Jungle Kyona and Konami. Kyona pinned Mayu Iwatani after the Jungle Buster.

Credit: STARDOM

Himeka pinned Saya Kamitani with a running powerbomb in a really exciting match.

Saya Iida and Starlight Kid took on Utami Hayashita and Momo Watanabe. Hayashita would get the win when she pinned Iida with a German suplex.

In the opening match of the night DEATH Yama-san pinned AZM.

This was another jam-packed and action-filled event from STARDOM. The company has returned with a bang after the Coronavirus hiatus. They return to Kurokuen Hall on July, 26 for the finals of the tournament for the vacant Wonder of STARDOM Championship.

Lita was supposed to have more pay-per-view matches with Chyna

Two of the biggest names in women’s wrestling in the late 1990s and early 2000s were Lita and Chyna. Of course, there were other household names, but these two become revolutionary and are celebrated still for their contributions. The two met at the Judgement Day pay-per-view in 2001 with the WWF Women’s Championship on the line.

Heading into the match, Chyna was the champion in her first and only reign when she defeated Ivory at WrestleMania X-Seven. Lita was going for her second reign. Chyna was able to defeat Lita and this in fact became her last match with the company as she exited later in that year. From that, the championship was vacated and Trish Stratus won it in a six-pack challenge.

Lita spoke with Corey Graves on his podcast, After the Bell, and discussed many topics. Of that came the discussion that Lita was supposed to have a series of pay-per-view matches with Chyna. This never came to see the light of day as Chyna exited the company.

“When Chyna was transitioning from working with only men and then to women, she went through Ivory and Right To Censor and then into a program with me. We had one pay-per-view match together and it was supposed to be a three pay-per-view program. So, intentionally, the first match we had was solid. It was okay, but we wanted to give the people just enough for them to go, ‘There’s something here. We want to see more.’ We held back knowing, thinking, that we were going to have two more matches, but she ended up not working there. That was the end of her time with WWE and we didn’t have that program.”

Lita stated that she and Chyna held back from that match as they expected more time to shine and show what they could do together. From this experience, Lita learned to take every opportunity

“I have been told this advice before. Any opportunity you have, make the most of it, act like it’s your last match every night, and if I had done that, we would have had a much more memorable match.”

What do you think of this? Would you have liked to see more high profile matches between Chyna and Lita? Let us know in the comment section below.

Naomi to address her recent loss and her fan support on Miz TV

After Naomi‘s loss to Lacey Evans on last week’s SmackDown, social media blew up in support for her. The #NaomiDeservesBetter trended on Twitter and had many people, both fans and other talent included, commenting that she deserves better. A frequent video that was shown was her return at this year’s Royal Rumble and the crowd reaction she received.

It was clear after her loss that she was tired of being on this losing streak she has been on in recent months. Ironically her last win was when she teamed with Lacey Evans in February to defeat Bayley and Sasha Banks. Her last clean singles win was against Carmella on Feb. 21.

She tweeted the following after her loss last week:

Tune in to SmackDown this Friday as Naomi addresses her recent losses and how she feels about the support from the WWE Universe.

Penelope Ford and Abadon in action on next week’s AEW Dark

AEW has announced tonight that Penelope Ford and Abadon will be in action on next week’s AEW Dark. Penelope Ford will face Kenzie Page and the creepy Abadon will take on Skyler Moore.

Abadon was last seen on AEW programming since her debut on AEW Dynamite June, 17 when she defeated Anna Jay. This will be the second time Abadon has wrestled on Dark. Back in March, she took on Hikaru Shida in a losing but attention-grabbing effort.

Penelope Ford hasn’t been in action since she unsuccessfully challenged Hikaru Shida of the AEW Women’s Championship at Fyter Fest – Night 1. Ford had been on a decent run leading up to the match with Shida and has only been seen briefly since. However, she was featured in the promo video for the upcoming Women’s Tag Team Tournament – The Deadly Deal. So hopefully we will see her getting back to winning ways in the build-up to the tournament against Page on next week’s AEW Dark.

AEW Dark has been offering up some jam-packed shows as of late and next week’s show is no different.

Hikaru Shida vs Diamante set for next week’s AEW Dynamite

AEW has announced that Diamante will face AEW Women’s Champion, Hikaru Shida next week in a non-title match.

Shida will have a tough challenge on her hands as Diamante comes into the match with two consecutive wins. Her first victory was against KiLynn King on Tuesday’s Dark. She would then defeat Ivelisse on last night’s Dynamite.

Diamante vs Ivelisse was announced last week and was a highly anticipated match up. Both competitors were making their AEW Dynamite debuts and made sure that they left their mark.

The match was rough and tough, fierce and furious. Both fighters beat the hell out of each other from beginning to end.

The match starts with Ivelisse getting in Diamante’s face followed with a barrage of chops in the corner. Ivelisse stops to gloat allowing Dimante to fight back with a round of strikesof her own.

The action would continue with both competitors bouncing off one another mercilessly firing increasingly stiff shots, strikes and kicks.

The intensity would increase as they would take the action outside. National pride would come to play as they traded vicious chops while calling out the name of their respective country.

Back in the ring, the stiff strikes would continue, with a few headlocks thrown in for good measure. Ivelisse would throw some insults Dimante’s way. This would result in another nasty round of strikes.

Diamante would get the better of Ivelisse and deliver two clotheslines followed by a German Suplex for a close fall.

Ivelisse would smash Diamante with a powerbomb for a near fall. Diamante recovered and rolled Ivelisse up in a small package for a hard-fought victory.

This was brutal, strike-heavy match. Diamante and Ivelisse went out there to prove a point. They held nothing back and showed some real intensity. These two have a lot of history, which should’ve really been highlighted beforehand with a simple video package that AEW is really good at producing.

This was a good match. It showcased two highly competitive wrestlers that are prepared to give it all in the ring. Expect to see them team up for the upcoming women’s tag team tournament – The Deadly Draw.

In the meantime Diamante will get another chance to show what she can do against AEW Women’s Champion, Hikaru Shida next week.

What do you make of the announcement and Diamante’s match with Ivelisse? Let us know in the comments below. As always stay tuned to Diva Dirt for all of AEW news, reviews and updates.

AEW announces the Women’s Tag Team Cup Tournament: The Deadly Draw

During tonight’s AEW Dynamite, it was announced that coming soon this summer will be the Women’s Tag Team Cup Tournament The Deadly Draw. The women of AEW finally seem to be getting some momentum and will be showcased.

According to the preview, 16-women in the form of eight teams will be featured. Who will step up and form their teams to take this tournament by storm? How the teams will be set up doesn’t seem to be set in stone just yet. It could be a random pairing or could be women who have worked together in the past. More information is still to come. One team seems to be for sure and that is Brandi Rhodes and Allie: The Nightmare Sisters.

In addition to information that is still to come, there is no word on what the winners will receive. Perhaps this will lead to AEW creating the women’s tag team championship?

What are your thoughts on this? Leave them in the comment section below!!

NXT Discussion Post: 07.22.20

It was announced earlier today on WWE’s The Bump that tonight’s advertised match for NXT will be Shotzi Blackheart vs. Aliyah. Robert Stone announced this as he and Aliyah have had recent run-ins with Blackheart.

After Blackheart ran over Stone’s ankle with her tank two weeks ago, he and Aliyah have been looking for revenge. Last week they were able to cost Blackheart her match against Indi Hartwell. This had a glimpse into perhaps another member joining the Robert Stone Brand in that of Hartwell.

Last week we saw a successful win to retain her title as Io Shirai defeated Tegan Nox. After the match, she was attacked by Dakota Kai signaling that Kai wants the next title shot. What may develop from this on tonight’s show?

Ruby Riott comments on her first singles win of the year

Ruby Riott had an impressive victory over Peyton Royce this past Monday on RAW. A win that she has been needing and wanting ever since she returned from her shoulder injury in February. Her injuries had her out of action since April of 2019.

Since returning, she has had her fallout with former Riott Squad member Liv Morgan and recently feuding with The IIconics. All of which she would wind up on the losing end up until last week when she teamed with Bianca Belair. Although she did win last week, Belair was the one to get the pin and it was in a tag team match.

There has been rumblings that her and Morgan will reunite once again as a tag team and her win against Royce this week was definitely retribution. She had the following to say on Twitter:

“Monday night was a special night. My match against Peyton Royce might not have been for a title, or even an opportunity at one. But, it was my first singles win since November of 2019. When I came back from my shoulder surgeries, I thought things would be exactly how I left them, but they weren’t. Things changed….people changed and I didn’t know how to handle it, but the fire that was lit after Peyton disrespected Liv Morgan, was one that I’ve felt for months. Even if it was only for a few minutes. Liv, if you watched on Monday, I hope you were proud. Peyton, from now on, keep her name outta your mouth.”

With keeping Morgan in this storyline it does seem as though the route to get her and Riott together may still be happening. We will have to see where this takes Riott now that she is finally in the win column against The IIconics.

What direction would you like to see Riott head towards? Would you like to see her and Morgan in the tag team division again, or would you like to see her run for championship gold solo?

Shazza McKenzie wants indie wrestlers to challenge Hikaru Shida

As the AEW Women’s World Champion, Hikaru Shida declared that she is open to any and all challengers for her title. Her open challenge has open many eyes throughout women’s wrestling and has caught the attention of Shazza McKenzie.

The Australian native posted a video on her social media saying that she would love to break Shida’s heart and challenge her to take the title. Unfortunately for McKenzie, she is currently stuck in Australia and is unable to get to the United States to face the champion. Instead, she is promoting the idea of having more indie female wrestlers get a crack at the title.

In the post the former Heart of SHIMMER Champion tagged just some of the talent she would like to see face Shida. The names she listed were Hyan, Nicole Savoy, Heather Monroe, Solo Darling, Trish Adora, and Holidead. She followed up by saying that she could easily have gone on to list many more names.

McKenzie has made a couple of appearances with AEW in 2019 including being a participant in the Casino Battle Royale at All Out which was won by Nyla Rose.

Shida’s last match was on this week’s AEW Dark where she defeated Rache Chanel. She successfully defended her title against Penelope Ford at Fyter Fest.

What are your thoughts on having more indie wrestlers compete in AEW?

Bea Priestley and Jamie Hayter vacate the Goddesses of STARDOM Championships

STARDOM has vacated the Goddesses of STARDOM Tag Team Championships meaning that Bea Priestley and Jamie Hayter are no longer the title holders. The decision was made as the duo are unable to defend the titles due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Hayter and Priestley won the titles from Jungle Kyona and Konami at Stardom 9th Anniversary on January, 19. And have only defended them once against Momo Watanabe and Utami Hayashishita at Stardom No People Gate on March, 8.

New champions will be crowned on July, 23 at Korakuen Hall when number one contenders Utami Hayashishita and Saya Kamitani face Jungle Kyona and Konami for the vacant titles.

The show on July, 23 already hosts two championship matches. Giulia takes on Tam Nakano for the vacant Wonder of STARDOM Champion. And Riho will also defend her High Speed Championship in a Three-Way Match against AZM and Starlight Kid.

What do you make of the decision and what match are you most looking forward to on July, 26? Let us know in the comments below. As always stay tuned to Diva Dirt for all of your STARDOM news and reviews.

Sasha Banks vs. Asuka scheduled to determine the true RAW Women’s Champion

After their match at Extreme Rules was met with a controversial ending, many were waiting to see who would officially be the RAW Women’s Champion. Bayley ended up “borrowing” the referee’s shirt from the match at that event and provided the count of three to crown her best friend as the champion. Of course, this left confusion as Bayley was not in the right to call the match.

On tonight’s RAW, both Bayley and Banks made their way to the ring with all the gold. The ring announcer did not introduce Banks as the RAW Women’s Champion. As they enter the ring, they explain their actions. Bayley explains she did what was only right after Asuka spewed her green mist in the eyes of the official nearly blinding him.

Although the Golden Role Models feel that Banks is indeed the RAW Women’s Champion, Asuka feels very different. She made her way out to the stage with Kairi Sane to deliver her displeasure saying that Sasha was not ready for Asuka and that Asuka was not ready for a thief. She says the RAW Women’s Title is hers. Banks demanded her to come and get it. As the Kabuki Warriors charge the ring, Stephanie McMahon appeared on the screen to address the controversy.

She congratulates the Golden Role Models for being the Women’s Tag Team Champions. She congratulates Bayley for being the SmackDown Women’s Champion. However, when it comes to the RAW Women’s Title – Sasha may believe she is the champion but McMahon has a difference of opinion.

McMahon says that Banks didn’t win last night but then again neither did Asuka. So next week on RAW we will have another title match to determine who is the rightful RAW Women’s Champion. She adds the stipulations that Banks could lose to pinfall, submission, count-out, disqualification, or if a certain Role Model interferes in the match.

Leave your thoughts in the comment section below. Who do you think will walk away as the red brand’s champion next week?

RAW Discussion Post: 07.20.20

Tonight’s RAW will certainly have people tuning in as the fans need answers. After a controversial ending to the RAW Women’s Championship match at Extreme Rules over the weekend, fans want to know who the champion is.

The finish saw Bayley taking the shirt of the referee and making the count to determine that Sasha Banks is the new champion.

This obviously is not an official call as Bayley was not the referee of the match. As of now WWE lists the result as a no contest which would mean that Asuka is still champion.

It is also rumored that tonight may be Kairi Sane‘s last appearance with the company. If that is the case then the match between her and Asuka that seemed to be brewing would not take place. Let’s see if anything is mentioned of this on tonight’s show.

Feel free to discuss tonight’s show in the comment section below to see how they explain this controversial ending.

Hikaru Shida in action on AEW Dark 07.21.20

0

AEW announced two women’s for AEW Dark tomorrow night. The first is KiLynn King vs. Diamante. The second is AEW Women’s Champion, Hikaru Shida vs. Rache Chanel.

The last time we saw Shida in action was her successful title defence against Penelope ford at Fyter Fest – Night 1. Since then she cut a promo issuing an open challenge for the title.

Wrestlers such as Nicole Savoy and Thunder Rosa have expressed their interest in the challenge via Twitter. So it will be very interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks. But until then Shida has Chanel to deal with.

The match will be Rache Chanel’s third consecutive AEW Dark appearnace. Her previous matches have been against Big Swole and The Nightmare Sisters.

Also announced for the show is KiLynne King vs. Diamante. King has been regular on AEW programming during the COVID-era and was last seen getting crushed by Nyla Rose at Fight for the Fallen last week.

Diamante was also on the AEW Dark last week teaming with Chanel against the Nightmare Sisters. But Diamante will also be facing Ivelisse in a highly anticipated matchup on AEw Dynamite on Wednesday.

Kairi Sane reportedly to make her final WWE appearance at tonight’s tapings

Tonight’s tapings of RAW are reportedly to be Kairi Sane‘s last WWE appearance. According to PWInsider Sane is finishing up her run “on good terms”, and will be returning to Japan to be with her husband, who she married earlier this year.

Sane’s situation with the company has been reported on for some time now. But it now seems as if her run with the company is coming to an end.

Sane has had an eventful three year run with comapny and will “remain part of WWE’s extended family.”

Sane joined WWE from STARDOM in 2017 and became an instant fan favourite due to her reputation, energetic in-ring style and standout ‘Insane Elbow’ finishing move.

Her first appearance was defeating Tessa Blanchard in the first round of the first Mae Young Classic. Sane would go on to win the whole tournament, defeating Shayna Baszler in the finals.

Sane would go on to hold the NXT Women’s Championship for 71 days and the Women’s Tag Team Championships with Asuka as the Kabuki Warriors for 171 days.

Recently there was talk of Sane and Asuka potentially having a match at SummerSlam but if today’s reports are to be believed then this won’t be taking place any time soon.

Winners & Losers: Extreme Rules 07.19.20

Last night’s Extreme Rules was anything but a horror show. As the event featured two excellent matches from the women among a plethora of exciting and crazy matches.

Nikki Cross challenged Bayley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship in a really strong and entertaining bout. And the RAW Women’s Championship match between Asuka and Sasha Banks was the fantastic affair that we all expected. But the ending of the match was controversial and the result is to be confirmed on tonight’s episode of RAW. Read all about it here.

Lets delve deeper into the action.

Bayley vs. Nikki Cross for the SmackDown Women’s Championship

The first women’s match was that of Bayley vs. Nikki Cross for the SmackDown title. As mentioned in the discussion post, Bayley and Nikki Cross have crossed paths many times. So both competitors were very familiar with one another. This made for a very exciting match up.

Before the match, we saw Alexa Bliss, Asuka and Kairi Sane hyping up Cross with words of encouragement. This support continued as Cross was accompanied to the ring by Bliss. Bayley and Banks then sauntered their way to ring mocking and taunting all with each and every step.

The match began with Bayley continuing to taunt a visibly nervous Cross. Bayley’s mind games worked at first until Cross attacks with a vicious swinging neck breaker for a two count. Followed by a tornado DDT to the outside and two flying crossbody blocks to two more near-falls. Cross hots a third flying crossbody to the outside. Cross celebrates this flurry of offence, which allows Bayley to slam her into the ring and then into the plexiglass.

Back in the ring the action continues with Bayley firmly in control beating and battering Cross mercilessly. Cross would take back the advantage by crawling under the ring to the other side. Bayley ends up caught in the ring apron and open to a frenzy of fists from Cross.

Back in the ring Cross mocks Bayley with the old wavey arms taunts but eats a Bayley to Belly. Cross kicked out from the pinfall attempt, which causes serious concern from both Bayley and Banks. This frustration would cause Bayley to add further force to her attacks. Each and every fist, forearm and knee going forward had a lot more bang behind them. But this extra didn’t seem to deter the fierce and feisty challenger.

Nikki Cross would kick out of a pin after a big Superplex and manage roll Bayley up for a pin. The Scot would make a comeback after slamming Bayley’s ribs into the turnbuckle, which allows her to drop Bayley with a backwards DDT. Cross would follow up with a running bulldog and a ripcord neck breaker for a close fall.

Nikki would continue to target Bayley’s neck with two consecutive backdrops and another near fall. A frustrated Cross goes to the top rope but Bayley counters with a running knee. Another kick out from Cross causes Banks to scream “what the hell” from ringside. Bayley pondered what she has to do to put the tenacious Cross away.

Bayley would miss an attack. Cross would take advantage with a spinning neck breaker off the ring to the outside. Back in the ring, Bayley would kick out of another close fall while an exasperated Banks looks on.

Banks then slipped her ‘Boss’ ring to Bayley, which allowed Bayley to strike Cross in the ribs with a ringed fist followed by the Rose Plant for the hard-fought victory.

This was a really good, fun and entertaining match with both performers performing incredibly well. The outcome may have been predictable but there were moments during the match that had the viewer on the edge of their seat at the possibility of a major upset. Nikki Cross looked great here and gave Bayley her toughest challenge to date.

Asuka vs. Sasha Banks for the RAW Women’s Championship

This match had all the ingreidnets to be a classic match. Both competitors are two of the best and headed into the match on tremendous form.

The match kicked off with the two competitors jostling for position in an intense and furious tie-up. Banks would get the early upper hand by slamming Asuka to the mat only to eat a kick in return.

This allowed Asuka to unleash a round of strikes and a hip toss that Banks expertly countered into the Banks Statement. As Asuka desperately clawed her way to the ropes, Banks would release the hold and viciously stamp on the champion’s hand a number of times.

Banks would hit a bicycle kick and Meteora for the first two-count of the match. Banks would keep up the pressure and pin Asuka’s hands to the mat for a number of pinfall attempts. Asuka would reverse the fourth attempt and lock in an armbar.

After reaching the ropes Banks attacks Asuka with a furious windmill of wince-inducing slaps and chops. Banks would then attempt a top rope arm drag but crash and burn into the beautiful knee strike from Asuka, which just showed how quickly these two fighters are able turn in the match in their favour. Excellent stuff.

The action would spill to the outside and they would trade offence until Asuka absolutely wiped out Banks with a super stiff running knee.

Back in the ring, Asuka would attempt an Asuka Lock but Banks would counter with a knee attack and some torturous joint manipulation to Asuka’s fingers. Banks would continue the torture with an array of different armbars, forearm and big knee strikes.

Asuka would eventually fight back with a barrage of brutal looking kicks and finish off with a spinning back fist to floor Banks. Asuka would corner the dazed Banks into the corner and plant her with a nasty double-knee attack that took both warriors out.

After a struggle on the ring apron, Banks would painfully powerbomb Asuka into the plexiglass, hockey fight style. Banks would then hit a frog splash for a two-count and straight into the Banks Statement. Banks had it synched in tight and there was a brief moment when Asuka looked as though she was in danger but she managed to scramble her way to the ropes to break the hold.

Asuka was able to recover to some strikes and two big German suplexes followed by a quartet of kicks and a pinfall attempt. Another German suplex and a hip attack would cause another near fall. A desperate Asuka would go to the top but miss the dropkick and eat a knee to the face but still managed to kick out of a pinfall attempt.

Asuka would attempt a top rope German Supersuplex that Banks somehow flipped out of. With passions running high, Banks would head to the top rope for another attack but lose her footing, grasping her knee.

Banks would scream that she was the next champion as the two warriors rose to their feet. Bayley would take out Sane with a Bayley to Belly outside while Banks and Asuka went through a series of desperate pinfall attempts. The sequence ended with Asuka getting the Asuka Lock on Banks. Bayley would slide in one of the tag team championships to cause a distraction. Bayley, now in the ring would break up the submission as Banks was tapping out. A furious Asuka would take her out a swift kick to the head.

Banks then went to attack Asuka with the title belt but the referee stopped her. While they argued, Asuka would approach Banks who evaded the green mist, which covered the referee taking him out of the match and this is where the confusion begins.

Bayley would take out Asuka with a title belt and remove the referee’s jersey and put it on. Now the unofficial referee of the match, Bayley counts to three and demands the bell to be rang and declares Sasha Banks as the new RAW Women’s Champion leaving everyone aghast and confused as they celebrated up the ramp.

This was an absolute cracker of a match. Asuka and Banks are absolute warriors. The vicious, intense and constant back and forth action never slowed. The punishment they dished out to each other was breathtaking. The trades of submissions, strikes and all types of offence was slick, smooth and stiff was tremendous to watch.

Yes, the ending was a little crazy, and it would’ve been nice to have a clean finish. But it adds further intrigue into the storyline going forward and gives the Golden Role Models more ammunition to be the amazingly obnoxious and wonderfully arrogant heels they are. And if we get another Sasha Banks and Asuka match out of it that most certainly isn’t a bad thing. It also seems as if the actions will have consequences. The decision will most likely be reversed due to Bayley’s actions. This could possibly cause the breakup between her and Banks that we have all been waiting for for a very long time.

The Ghost of Alexa Bliss

Later on the night during the Swamp Match between Braun Strowman and Bray Watt, we got to see an rather spooky appearance from Alexa Bliss.

This was good fun and really interesting addition into the weird and wonderful world of Bray Wyatt/The Feind. The use of Bliss and Strowman’s time as Team Little-Big as a weapon was very effective and intriguing. Is there something brewing between Braun and Bliss? We’ll have wait until Friday to find out.

Lets get to the winners of the night;

Winners: Asuka, Bayley, Sasha Banks and Nikki Cross

All four wreslters were fantastic and put on great performances throughout the night.

Asuka was as amazing as she always is. She came to the ring dancing and having fun. But as soon as the bell rang she became the clinical striker and submission guru that pushed Banks to her limit. Not only did she dish out brutal punishment but she also took it as well. This was a gruelling match that once again proved the ‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ is right where she belongs, at the top of the mountain.

Bayley was, as always on top form. Her heel work is exceptional and her ring work is clever, methodical and highly effective. Bayley has not only found her groove in this heel role but she excelled in it and became the most entertaining performer in the company.

This was Nikki Cross’ best main roster performance. She was quick, fierce and sharp. Her barrage of offence caught Bayley completely unaware and there were genuine moments when it looked as though she could end Bayley’s title reign.

Sasha Banks continued her tremendous run of amazing matches. Banks has been on fire both in and out of the ring and shows no signs of slowing down. And if we finally to get the break up of the Gold Role Models then the highly-anticipated and long-awaited feud and eventual match up against Bayley will be pure gold.

No losers tonight as stated earlier, all four women were excellent.

NXT UK talk about the Women’s Evolution; New Jinny promo

All last week, WWE celebrated that it has been five years since the Women’s Evolution started. It was spoken about on the programming and dominated the social media realm. This included many superstars discussing their favorite moments. The ladies of NXT UK have concluded the week by discussing their favorite moments and what it has meant to them.

Ever since the current COVID pandemic started, NXT UK has been on the back burner. After what had pre-taped for the brand had aired, unlike the brands stateside, NXT UK has been at a halt. Recently it has been discussed that the brand will continue despite some concerns because both the pandemic and the #SpeakingOut movement affect the UK brand. At this time the next NXT UK TakeOver event in Dublin for October is still in the plans.

Xia Brookside, Candy Floss, and Isla Dawn all shared their favorite moments. Brookside said that the Evolution pay-per-view in itself was a stand out for her. Candy Floss and Dawn both highlighted Toni Storm‘s win at the second Mae Young Classic.

Continuing on Aoife Valkyrie says her favorite memory is the Four Horsewomen but most specifically the Ironman match between Bayley and Sasha Banks in NXT. This signified the first and until recently, the only women’s match to become the main event at a TakeOver event. Jinny comments on the Evolution pay-per-view and states that women continue to prove that they can do it better than the men. Nina Samuels says her favorite moment was when the Divas Championship became the RAW Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 32.

Speaking of Jinny, you can view her newest promo below. She seems hungry to get to the top of the women’s division in the UK. Currently at the top is the longest-reigning woman holding a title in the company currently and that is the Kay Lee Ray with the NXT UK Women’s Title at 319 days and counting.

Who do you miss seeing regularly from the NXT UK brand? Who would you like to see face Kay Lee Ray next? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Sasha Banks might be the RAW Women’s Champion

Yes, you read that right, Sasha Banks just might be the RAW Women’s Champion. At this time it has not been confirmed.

Sasha Banks is allegedly your new RAW Women’s Champion after defeating Asuka at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view. This marked with Bayley retaining against Nikki Cross earlier in the night to keep her SmackDown Women’s Title has made the Golden Role Models both double champions. The duo holds the Women’s Tag Team Titles so they hold all three titles. This is all if the result of the match holds up.

Banks and Asuka put on a clinic as the match lasted 20-minutes. However, the end of the match is questionable.

As the match comes to a conclusion, Asuka mistakenly spewed her green mist that was meant for Banks at the referee instead. This prompts Bayley to put on the referee’s shirt and administer the three count to declare Banks the winner. She demanded the timekeeper to ring the bell although they were reluctant to. There was no official announcement made for the result.

After that phenomenal match we may have to wait until RAW tomorrow to hear word if Bayley’s actions are going to stay official. If so this would make Sasha the only 5-time RAW Women’s Champion breaking away from her tie at four with Charlotte Flair. At the very least, Banks is walking out with the belt in hand.

What did you think of this match? The ending? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below. Check back in with Diva Dirt on further word on this decision.

WWE Extreme Rules: Discussion Post 07.19.20

The Horror Show at Extreme Rules is upon us and WWE have given us with two excellent matches. The first is Bayley defending her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Nikki Cross. The second is Asuka defending the RAW Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks.

Both matches have high stakes attached and feature four of the most entertaining wrestlers in the company. Expect two excellent matches from four amazing competitors.

Bayley vs. Nikki Cross for the SmackDown Women’s Championship

Credit: WWE

Bayley and Nikki Cross are no strangers to each other. Nikki Cross unsuccessfully challenged Bayley for the title way back in November 2019. More recently they have been clashing for the last couple months over the Women’s Tag Team Championships that reached its crescendo when Bayley and Banks defeated Bliss and Cross for the titles. But the animosity continued when Cross defeated Alexa Bliss, Dana Brooke and Lacey Evans in a Fatal 4-Way to become the number one contender and now heads into the Extreme Rules with a chance to capture the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Bayley has proven herself to be a formidable champion and defeated all that have stood in her way. But Cross is an unpredictable opponent due to her “manic” personality and “frenzied” in-ring style. So expect a highly intense affair with a strong possibility of interference from Bliss and Banks.

Asuka vs Sasha Banks for the RAW Women’s Championship

Sasha Banks is on a phenomenal run and comes into the match with all the momentum in the world. Asuka has also been on tremendous form and is always on her best whatever the opponent, whatever the circumstance. This is easily Asuka’s toughest challenge since capturing the title and a win over Banks would solidify and legitimise this title reign.

Asuka and Sasha Banks are two of the best to ever do it and the match is going to be fantastic no doubt about it. Can Sasha Banks become a double champion tonight or will Asuka prove that nobody is ready for her no matter how good they are?

Deonna Purrazzo takes down Jordynne Grace to become new Knockouts Champion

Deonna Purrazzo may have only joined IMPACT last month but she went directly to the top. Purrazzo ends Jordynne Grace‘s 182-day reign as champion when she caused her to submit at Slammiversary with the Fujiwara armbar.

Purrazzo has had success for weeks by attacking Grace and applying her vicious armbar to foreshadow what was to come. She tries to put Grace away mid-match with this but at that time Grace was able to roll through. Grace then found herself in a cross armbreaker before being face-planted into the mat.

Grace tries to mount some offense by going after Purrazzo’s neck and she goes after her with shoulder tackles while keeping her down by rolling Senton. Grace gets a near fall followed by trapping her challenger in a body scissor. Purrazzo starts to fade but after a check by the official, The Virtuosa keeps her arm up. Purrazzo rolls through to get out. Moments later, Grace power slams her and gets a near fall and then hits a spinebuster.

As Purrazzo continues to focus on Grace’s arm, Grace looks for the Grace Driver but is unable to execute her finisher. Purrazzo locks in a double Fujiwara armbar to get the champion to tap and crowns The Virtuosa the new Knockouts Champion!!

Kylie Rae won a number one contender’s Gauntlet for the Gold match earlier in the night. She now knows she will be challenging Purrazzo for the title.

What did you make about this match and are you happy with Deonna as the new champion? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Kylie Rae wins Gauntlet Match to become number one contender

At Slammiversary, Kylie Rae outlasted 11 other women (and John E. Bravo) in a Gauntlet for the Gold match to become the new number one contender for the Knockouts Championship. At the time of her victory she is unsure who she will be facing as the Knockouts Title is defended later on in the night by Jordynne Grace against Deonna Purrazzo.

Rae last pinned the former and longest reigning Knockouts Champion Taya Valkyrie. Other participants in the match included Madison Rayne, Katie Forbes, Tasha Steelz, Kiera Hogan, Havok, Nevaeh, Alisha, Kimber Lee, Susie, and Rosemary.

Rae officially started with the company at the end of March and ever since then more and more women have followed suit in joining the Knockouts division. What do you think of Kylie being the next to go for the gold?

Big Swole pens letter about being a black professional wrestler

0

Big Swole shared a letter today that she has written about the experiences of black professional wrestlers. Swole took to Twitter to make the letter available for all to read.

Swole’s letter educates the reader on the many challenges that black people have to go through in the industry. Swole also asks the question of why discrimination has been ignored and then asks the reader to “be the change.”

Read the full letter below;

“We Just Want to Be Heard

The conversation that has been told but never heard is finally here. Imagine expressing your innermost concerns and having them fall on deaf ears for decades. Imagine being told “I already have enough Blacks on my roster.” This is what it is like being a Black professional wrestler. The keys to Black wrestlers’ success have been dangled up high but just close enough to give hope. Like the aliens looking at the claw in ‘Toy Story’, every once and awhile one reaches the claw but then the cycle starts all over again.

Why is it that Black people dominate and excel in other participated sports except for wrestling? What is it about this profession that is different from the inner workings of other professional sports? One of the main issues is there are people in this business who actively try to deter the careers of Black wrestlers. Whether it is intentional or unintentional it is happening and when someone speaks up about the ongoing racism, crickets and shaming follows. Black wrestlers are being cut off at the knees to fit this mold that is deemed acceptable in order to place a price on worthiness. Years of hard work has culminated into a position where the shut up and color customs are consolation prizes. There has been outpours of mistreatment and discrimination but again crickets. The time for listening, hearing, comprehending, advocating and allying is now. Be the change”

The letter brings to light many difficulties that many of us do not know exist. And for that Big Swole must be applauded.
