‘Total Divas’ Viewership Rises Despite TLC Competition: 1.3 Million Viewers

In what can certainly be seen as a surprise, this week’s season finale of Total Divas drew 1.3 million viewers, up from the 1.2 for last week’s episode.

Of course, the reason for the surprise is that the finale aired opposite one of WWE’s own Pay-Per-View events, TLC. Going head-to-head with PPVs has proven to hurt the reality show each time in the past, even when they had the aid of Keeping Up with the Kardashians for lead-in support.

In the coveted 18-49 year old demo, Total Divas did drop a tad from the 0.7 last week to a 0.6, but never fear, as that number doesn’t even match the show’s series low in the demographic.

For an E! program that is now standing on its own two feet, so to speak, that’s very good news.

TLC in Review: AJ Skips Closer to a Record-Breaking Reign

Going into Sunday, the result of TLC’s Divas Title match between AJ Lee and Natalya seemed straightforward.

However, backstage drama that put AJ in the hot seat appeared to change the minds of a few, who started predicting a title change. Could it really happen? Would AJ drop her title?

Watch the match below and see for yourself:

Before the match, Renee Young caught up with AJ (with Tamina Snuka), who as usual proclaimed her own greatness, calling everything from Total Divas to the division itself a joke. After tonight, she said, she would be the only one laughing.

In the ring, she and Natalya start quickly, with Natalya taking down AJ for a quick pin attempt. AJ kicks out and soon finds herself in a side headlock, but reverses into a submission of her own, wrapping her legs around Natalya’s neck.

Natalya soon kips up, but gets a kick to the stomach. AJ wrenches her arm by the wrist, but finds that reversed, Natalya flipping out of it and taking AJ down with a modified suplex. She goes for a pin attempt, but AJ kicks out at one.

The Divas trade momentum until Natalya latches on an armbar. AJ works her way to her feet, but Natalya stays on her, hitting her with a snapmare and a low dropkick to the back.

AJ slips out of the ring for a breather, being pursued by Natalya, who is stopped in her tracks by Tamina. This allows AJ to slip back into the ring and attempt a baseball slide. Natalya sees this and stops AJ, pulling her out of the ring and tossing her into the barricade. Now this is the Natalya we want to see: brutal and taking no shit!

She tosses AJ back into the ring, eyeing Tamina before trying to get back into the ring herself. She remains distracted when she hops onto the ring apron, allowing AJ to kick her legs out from under her, causing her to hit the apron face-first.

AJ brings Natalya back into the ring, going for an unsuccessful pin attempt. She then locks Natalya into a sleeper, which Natalya slowly powers out of, running the ropes and walking right into a spinning heel kick from AJ. AJ goes for another pin, but Natalya kicks out at two.

This time, AJ locks in a front facelock. Natalya soon lifts AJ off her feet, driving her into the corner and freeing herself. When she tries to capitalize on this, though, AJ kicks her in the face, dropping her to the mat.

She send Natalya into the corner, kicking her in the midsection and pausing a bit to soak in the crowd reaction before charging at her. Nobody’s home, though, and Natalya lifts her up, going for a bodyslam. Out of nowhere, AJ latches onto Natalya’s neck, locking in a guillotine choke!

Natalya has nowhere to go, so she tries to lift AJ off of her. She eventually does, tossing AJ over her shoulder and rolling out of a roll-up attempt, kicking AJ in the face. She blocks a kick from AJ and hits her with a series of clotheslines and suplexes, topping it all off with a sitout slam. With AJ prone, Natalya locks in the Sharpshooter!

AJ fights to the ropes, but when she’s inches away, Natalya drags her back to the middle of the ring. It looks like AJ has nowhere to go, but she flips her body around, taking down Natalya with her legs. As she recovers, Tamina distracts Natalya, allowing AJ to pounce and lock in the Black Widow! Natalya manages to escape by dropping to a knee, knocking AJ off. She hits her with a clothesline, and AJ doesn’t get up.

Seeing this, Natalya tries again with the Sharpshooter, but AJ grabs a handful of hair and pulls her into a small package pin. AJ retains!

Thoughts:, In my opinion, this was AJ’s best title defense yet. No one she’s come across yet has been able to put on as good of a match as this one. It shouldn’t come as a surprise, though because hello: this is Natalya!

While this match’s buildup and Natalya’s character (again with the waterworks?) leave a lot to be desired, it is nice to see a great match. Tamina was used well, with her providing quick, plausible distractions that were enough to throw Natalya off her game.

Yes, AJ’s reign has been less than exciting, and her character could use a good freshening up, but I think it’s obvious by now that AJ’s holding on to the title until she breaks the record. Maybe once she drops the title we can get a decent story brewing. As well as AJ plays her character, there’s only so many times we can see her weasel her way to victories in the big matches. Six months of that has been more than enough.

Leah Van Damme Reveals New WWE Name

111

NXT Diva Leah Van Damme has joined her fellow rookie Divas in adopting a new name.

Leah, who arrived at NXT in October, revealed on Twitter today that she will now be known as Carmella.

Of course, that’s not to be confused with Carmella DeCesare, the runner up to Christy Hemme in the Diva Search.

She tweeted:

This follows the trend of newly signed Divas adopting new monikers within a few months of beginning training.

Total Divas Redux: Episode 14, ‘Ready to Ride’

42

Dun dun dun dun! Welcome to your one stop recaplet of all things Total Divas from our season one finale, “Ready to Ride”. Before we get underway, allow me to introduce myself so you don’t read this redux in Cryssi’s voice before realizing our southern belle is taking the week off from this hit E! reality show to cover TLC. Because of this, I, Bobby, have been called on to step in and perform her duties to the best of my ability. Now, upon my return to recapping from this past weeks edition of SmackDown, I described myself as the JTG of Diva Dirt because we’re both sort of not in the forefront as much as we used to be. Being that I’m not certain the entire Total Divas fanbase knows who that is (no harm meant by that JTG… I still count the time you let me wear your chain at a meet & greet as a life highlight), I’ve decided to instead change my WWE doppleganger to someone a little more common in the Total Divas Universe in that of Alicia Fox.

Like Alicia, I’m employed alongside your main cast, but I’m just starting to make my presence felt again after some time on the backburner and so you may get to know me through such segments as when I poked fun at Katelyn for peeing her pants while writing up an indy news recap or when I gave helpful advice about my past mistakes to Steven that time he was nervous about making his interviewing debut at WSU. It’s the little things, but throughout these moments, you’ll get to know me and my personality so thank you for allowing my writing into your home.

Now onto the good stuff! Total Divas… oh Total Divas, where can I even begin? It’s a show I need in my TV diet each and every week, and whether certain segments are real or scripted, which I notice is a hot topic amongst fans, I don’t even care. It’s entertaining and fun and all I’ve ever wanted in my wrestling life aside from a much requested Jamie Noble/Nidia reunion and NXT Redemption anniversary behind the scenes sit-down tell all special. Do I judge the Divas based on how they’re portrayed on the show? Not usually, because I know in reality TV you need a hero and a villain, and most of the time they don’t always show the full reasoning behind why someone reacts a certain way or does a certain thing. That’s perfectly fine because they want the show to be entertaining… blahh, sorry my babbling problem is acting up again. What I’m trying to say is that my love for Total Divas and the cast shines bright, so without any further stalling, let’s get down to business.

It’s been quite the debut season for our favorite ass kicking females of the ring over the past few months. There’s been Brie Mode-esque highs, there’s been Gismo-esque lows, and there’s been Sandra, which is a new holy, angelic figure I’m sure we all can agree we want to see more of in season two (and on Raw and SmackDown and so on and so forth). Nevertheless, tonight’s episode dealt with a few different relationship (and DRUNK) stories in particular. Those include:

Daniel Bryan (Bryan)’s surprise proposal to Brie Bella.

Nikki Bella‘s feelings about marriage and children that tend to differ from those of John Cena.

Eva Marie‘s disapproving family response to her fiancée, Jonathan.

Natalya channeling her own version of Brie Mode and drunk dialing Mother Teresa herself, Stephanie McMahon.

I can’t lie… the thought of seeing Brie’s proposal, getting more Eva Marie and seeing the infamously built up Natalya/Stephanie drunk dial showdown is overtaking me with excitement. Admittedly, I’m not as excited to see John and Nikki disagree because I just want them to be happy dang it, and I want to see photos of a Nikki wedding with little Bella-Cena children running around in their Never Give Up K-Mart gear, red gloves and backwards caps. But I suppose I’m sure I will be okay when this is over… at least I hope so. Let’s get underway and see what happens to my sanity!

Can my little old words even do this part of the episode justice? Absolutely not. I truthfully believe if “perfect couple” was in the dictionary, you would find a photo of Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella — him holding four of their Slammy’s in his hands with the other two hanging from his beard and her cradling their dear Josie as various woodland creatures stand around them smiling with the sunlight beaming down and reflecting off the Slammy gold (Can you tell I may have thought about this frequently?). The fact we even got to see footage of Daniel running the entire proposal plan by Nikki in advance was icing on the cake, as was their families walking out (Shout out to Mama Bella and Nana!) and meeting each other for the first time to surprise Brie with a big outdoor, nature filled engagement dinner.

Daniel and Brie have had a few problems on the show, what with him being elevated to a high status in the company and thus having to take on a larger workload which leaves less time with her. But no matter what, they have never once given me any indication that they can’t work out a problem that comes their way. They honestly remind me of the male/female equivalent to one another with their hobbies and interests, which is why they fit together like Peanut Butter and Jelly… Brad and Angelina… Will and Jada Pinkett! …Alright, I’m sure you’re starting to get annoyed at my inability to find flaws, so I’ll fix that.

One part that did upset me during the episode was when they showed the segment from Raw a few months ago involving Brie Bella running out to scream for Daniel’s safety when Randy Orton DDT’d him off the ring apron to the outside. It just made me realize how much they really dropped the ball with what could’ve been a huge storyline for Brie and given her some of the spotlight similar to what AJ got last year with the likes of CM Punk, Kane and Daniel himself. Seeing them as this big babyface couple would’ve been so refreshing on TV, but what’s done is done and unfortunately it seems like the ship has sailed on getting that. We’ll always have this video package though, and they can’t take it back.

At Brie’s engagement dinner (and after taking a pregnancy test earlier on that confirmed she wasn’t with child), Nikki Bella turned to her mother and began expressing her concerns about John Cena’s refusal to have children or ever get married. This was present throughout the entire episode as well, with him continuing to put his foot down and say it flat out will not happen, no matter how much he falls for Nikki. She admitted that she had learned to accept it, but seeing Brie and Daniel experience the excitement of getting proposed to and having their families come together is making her not want to hide how she feels in fear that there won’t be a future between them anymore. As the episode comes to an end, Nikki confronts John with how she feels, but he still sticks to his guns and we’re left wondering what’s to become of NeNa in the future!

Alright, I have a lot to say about Nikki and John. Before I do though, I just want to say that I’m a big fan of the Bella Twins and I also enjoy John Cena most of the time (I rooted for him in Miami at WrestleMania 28, so don’t even question it). Nothing I say is coming from any sort of pre-built negative thoughts about either of them. I just want them to get married and I wish he would change his mind about it. It does aggravate me that she has to back down when they disagree most of the time, but I like that she speaks up at least and voices her opinion (and I LOVED when she finally called him out on the fact she has to make the sacrifices when they disagree on something), but then I hate having to see Nikki put away what she wants and has always dreamed of because he won’t budge on the issue. It’s honestly not fair to her even if I do get that he’s been burned in the past and is probably still scarred from it. Part of me wants to lash out in a rage filled tirade about why he should marry her (because you know, John Cena is going to log onto Diva Dirt, read this redux and change his mind), but I can see both sides of the story and it’s stopping me from being that angry at him for making her have to give up important things she wants, no matter how much I do side with and sympathize for her.

Although I am kind of lost on why they don’t just do a pre-nup. Don’t get me wrong, I know that is a huge deal to put on someone, but Nikki basically already said she understood his reasons for wanting to protect his money since he cares for his family members, so I’m assuming it wouldn’t be that bad in exchange for her to be able to walk down the aisle and have a wedding that she always pictured, right? Working out agreements like that where each party wins in the end should be what happens between them, but instead it always comes across (on the show at least) that she has to lose in the end if she doesn’t want to risk them not being together. The only thing I can ever remember her winning out on was their issues about putting up pictures and lighting candles which I don’t think is quite equal to getting married and having a child. Nikki put it best in tonights episode (as morbid as it is to think about) when she said that eventually, she is going to lose him and then she’s going to be left with nobody or one day wake up and wonder why he refused to marry her when she’s been nothing but good to him. Of course I’m not John Cena so I can in no way imagine how bad he got hurt in the past. I’m sure it was ugly and gave him a lot of trust issues, but like I said, if it’s money he’s worried about, Nikki didn’t seem obliged to signing something when she found out the reasoning behind his concerns before, and in agreeing to sign a pre-nup, she could one day get the wedding of her dreams without John having the fear that something will happen and he’d suffer like his other marriage. It seems quite equal to me, but I’m not them and I can’t pretend to be (unless it’s Halloween, in which I’d have to be John because nobody wants to see me dressed in Bella gear, trust me).

EVA! Unlike some of my fellow Diva Dirt team members, I am by far on Team Eva Marie. In tonights episode, the red headed stunner brought her fiancée, Jonathan home to meet her family. It sounds like your usual love story right? Wrong! It turns out that Eva and Jonathan may kind of already be engaged… and her family may not know about it just yet. This gives me so much insight on Eva’s family and I have to say that I’m ashamed because the fact they didn’t know about the engagement means they aren’t Total Divas fans! It was on season 1A Father Marie, why didn’t you watch?! Nevertheless, Eva got into a huge argument with her family over the issue when they weren’t too welcoming to Jonathan, leading to the two storming off and plotting to elope in Vegas since she couldn’t get her parents blessing. In the end though, she got a call from WWE saying she would be working the next forty days (Good GOD), and so Jonathan agreed that he would do whatever she wanted because he wants to be with her and isn’t going to pressure her into things (You better be watching this episode after your match at TLC John Cena…).

I completely understand where Eva Marie is coming from in this entire episode, and not just because I think so highly of her. I know what it’s like to come from a family that is somewhat overprotective, and because you’ve always grown up so close to them, you don’t want to do things that go against them and ruin your bond with them no matter how angry they may make you. Seeing Eva’s mom say that if she and Jonathan ever file for divorce, she is never welcome in their house again was jarring, and I couldn’t even fathom what I would do if my parents were to say that to me. Of course, when your buttons get pushed too much though, you react in ways that you normally end up regretting so I thought it was smart for Eva and Jonathan to just leave before the situation got any worse. People need time to cool down after heated moments and staying around would’ve probably made Eva blow up in a way she wouldn’t be able to take back or ever forgive herself in doing, so A+ on the decision to exit Eva.

Now, I don’t think Eva and Jonathan were entirely in the right (but they’re still great and that’s what matters). I realize that when you know you’ve met the one, you know… and you want to spend the rest of your life with them. But they really should have met her parents before he popped the question. As much as I love Total Divas and reality TV in general, I know it isn’t always entirely 100% truthful in its portrayals, so maybe this isn’t the entire story between Jonathan and her family. Nevertheless, based on what we saw, I do think the family was very unnecessarily harsh on him. I’m sure it’s because they’re just protective of Eva, but at least treat Jonathan with respect if he’s doing so to you. The brothers and her dad seemed to be jumping on him, his tattoos and his nose ring from the minute he walked in the door. I’d get if it set them off when he revealed he had already proposed to her, but they were starting with him way before that and even then, he still kept his cool and didn’t retaliate in a way that most guys probably would have out of frustration building. He seems very down to earth and calm, and I genuinely believe he and Eva are the right fit for each other. Plus he sat behind me once at an NXT show of all things and was nice as hell so I’m team Jonathan/Eva all the way. Sorry Marie family, but you lost me when you basically revealed you weren’t Total Divas fans and there was honestly no going back after that (Although Eva’s mom seems really nice and I kind of want to be friends with her even if we probably have nothing in common and she said that line about Eva and Jonathan divorcing).

Here we go… time for the motherload! Ever since we saw a preview of this scene in the midseason return, I have been salivating at the mouth to see it. In fact, I was starting to worry that it got cut since each episode was happening without it included. Never fear though, for Natalya, Stephanie and the Total Divas Gods are here to bestow upon us the magic that is Nattie’s drunk dial!

After finding out from Mark Carrano earlier on that Stephanie wasn’t pleased by receiving nine voicemails throughout the night when Natalya was intoxicated in New Orleans, she had been terrified of her ultimate confrontation with the bosses daughter. Once she got some advice from Cameron, Brie Bella, Eva Marie and Alicia Fox earlier on (that included Cameron basically telling her she’s on her own because Nattie called her a stripper that danced like a prostitute during her drunken reign of terror when our “master of the girl, bye” tried to snatch Nattie’s phone from her in the midst of one of the Stephanie phone calls), Natalya headed into the office and met up with business suit Steph. Are you afraid yet? Because I may be hyperventilating a tad.

Nattie immediately tries to fix the situation and apologize, citing her state of mind as the reason. But oh no, Steph is not having it. She wants Natalya to LISTEN to the voicemails one by one and deal with them (I can’t even start with the possible joke that could be inserted of Natalya being so nervous she might pee herself so I’ll just leave that to Alicia Fox since she likes to pop up every time Natalya has to deal with something embarrassing). Since Stephanie is running down the voicemails (and since they’re so golden), I’m going to do the same for you because the WWE Youtube video cuts out all the good ones. Ahem…

“Hey Steph, it’s Nattie calling. I know you’re probably busy, but I just wanted to talk to you about some ideas that I had, and I feel like with my lineage and with being a Neidhart, I deserve to have a Divas Championship.”

Preach.

“I’m frustrated and I don’t want to go to work and feel that pent up anger. It’s building and building and building.”

I can see this and don’t blame you Nattie.

“So I just don’t understand why I’m not the Divas Champion right now.”

I have said this for a few years so church to that (hopefully I used “church” right).

“I don’t understand why it’s so hard for you to get back to me!”

Oh my, Natalya I’m starting to become concerned with the way you’re talking to Stephanie.

“First of all, I’m not wearing any underwear and I’m ready to ride”.

… I cannot even come up with an appropriate sentence to follow this so I’ve decided to provide you the following photo:

Oh, but wait… there’s more!

“Please return my phone calls. I’ve done everything I can to make you guys like me. I’m just so f****** frustrated. Obviously I don’t mean anything to you so I’m done. I quit! I don’t even care anymore, Steph!”

NATALYA NO.

The situation eventually ends with Stephanie telling Natalya that it’s okay how she feels, and they know her history. She is a valued person to them and will surely hold the Divas Title again one day. Plus they share a bond of being females that grew up in the business so she makes sure Natalya knows she can always come to Stephanie if she has a frustration or an idea and they will discuss it together like the mature generational Divas they are. Oh, but Stephanie is 100% saving those messages, just so you know.

Phenomenal. I had pretty much built up expectations of how I wanted this drunk dial scene to go between them and it did not disappoint in any way, shape or form. Stephanie playing back the messages was evil, yes, but also extremely entertaining and I’m sorry Natalya, but please don’t hate me for kind of chuckling/laughing so hard I almost choked. It’s just seeing Natalya, this esteemed veteran of the ring with all this family history, let loose and do something so out of character for her was needed for me this episode after how tragic it was watching her in last weeks. I know some people will probably be up in arms at them treating Natalya like the joke, but honestly after having to basically hear Nattie and TJ‘s live reactions to Gismo being put to sleep, I would rather their grieving be kept off screen as private moments between them because I already felt extremely intrusive from that alone. Plus, how incredible was it hearing Natalya say what so many fans have been saying in that she should be Divas champion to the holy mother, Stephanie McMahon? Whether she was drunk or not, I loved it and it made me become even more of a fan than I already was.

All in all, this episode had everything I love about Total Divas bottled into one (okay, I could’ve done with a little more Naomi and Cameron… and don’t even get me started on the JoJo treatment). Brie and Daniel got a big moment shown, Nikki finally stood up to John towards the end and expressed how she feels (even if we won’t see what goes down until March), Eva Marie was a larger focus than she has been in some of the more recent episodes and Natalya’s drunk dial fiasco lived up to the hype I created in my head over the past six weeks.

Even though this recap is probably the size of a Harry Potter novel already, being that Total Divas has officially wrapped the season, I’d like to end it with a list of some of the things I’m thankful the show has given us over the past few months:

The Supporting Cast (Sandra, Heel Jane, Gismo, King Louis, Charlotte the cat, TJ’s Mom, Naomi’s Dad, Mama Bella, Vinny and Cameron’s Sex Therapist, Naomi’s Hair Salon, Natalya’s Mom, Renee Young‘s eyelash falling off during the reunion, Nikki Bella’s Friends, Eva Marie’s Family, Alicia Fox, Fandango, Jaret, the girl who held up an #AllRedEverything sign at Summerslam, Josie and Glitty)

Brie Mode (no explanation needeed)

The Male Counterparts/Boyfriends/Fiancées/Spouses (Daniel Bryan, Vincent, Jonathan, Jon Uso, Justin Gabriel, Sebastian, TJ and yes even you John Cena… just let Nikki have something okay)

Stephanie McMahon confrontations

Daniel Bryan saying “Grown Ass Woman”

Eva Marie’s brief one tryout run as Fandango’s dancer (complete with Heel Jane scowls)

Most likely being the reason I still got my Nikki Bella fix many of the weeks she was injured

Cameron’s upcoming album, road rage and catchphrases (including but not limited to Girl and Boy Bye, Da Bomb Dot Com and Extra)

Giving my beloved Naomi more to do on TV (I mean beloved in a fan way, calm down Jimmy Uso)

More of Braniel’s love of nature

Ginger Mahal

Putting Natalya back in the forefront of the division

That theme song that I may kind of rap along to (in the comfort of my own home and car okay)

And of course, the main cast of Brie Bella, Nikki Bella, Natalya, Naomi, Cameron, Eva Marie and sort of(?) JoJo

Speaking of which, my one main complaint is what the heck happened to JoJo? Granted, I feel like NXT is a better fit for her anyways, especially being so young and showing so much potential already. But dang, you would think Alicia Fox was on the main cast more than her in the back half of the season. I’m pretty sure we can all guess JoJo isn’t going to be returning for season two, so I’m sorry to have to be the one to do this as much as it pains me, but as I channel my inner Big Brother America host, Julie Chen… JoJo, by a vote of 4 to 2, you have been evicted from the Total Divas cast.

In all seriousness though, I cannot wait to see what JoJo accomplishes because I see so much promise in her. Total Divas wasn’t the right fit it seemed, but NXT looks to be more her style. Hopefully 2014 is a big year for her, as well as the cast of Total Divas and the division in general.

Until March when the show returns, as does Cryssi to take back the faithful redux,

This is Bobby signing out,
Peace!

Picture of the Day: Fandango Sets His Sights on a Diva, and She’s Not Summer Rae

63

We all know Fandango and Summer Rae as the two-stepping twosome that have taken the WWE by storm in the past year.

With their tassels and infectious charisma, it’s no wonder why they became a hit with fans, especially earlier this year, when the Fandango craze first took over.

Recent developments, though, have us questioning if there’s trouble brewing. Surely Summer Rae can’t be too pleased seeing the name of another woman – Natalya – written on the abdomen of her dance partner, can she?

Fandango posted this incriminating photo on his Twitter account, tweeting:

No caption needed!

We’re kind of just cradling ourselves in a corner hoping Tyson Kidd doesn’t see this, especially after that confrontation on Total Divas a few weeks ago when Fandango and Nattie took up training together. Ruh roh…

TLC Results: AJ Escapes the Sharpshooter’s Crosshairs

Tonight at TLC, AJ Lee moved one step closer to breaking the record for longest Divas Title reign when she defeated Natalya.

The Divas Champion narrowly escaped defeat several times, once almost tapping to Natalya’s Sharpshooter. Distraction from Tamina Snuka played a big role as well.

When Natalya tried again for a submission victory, AJ grabbed a handful of hair, rolling the Total Divas star into a small package pin. With the pin, AJ got the victory and held on to her Divas Title.

Natalya appeared to be AJ’s most formidable opponent yet, so with her loss, is there anyone who can step up and finally unseat the Divas Champion?

What did you think of the match?

Update on AJ Lee/Michelle Beadle Incident

570

A few sources have followed up on this morning’s report that an incident backstage at Tribute to the Troops had Divas Champion AJ Lee in hot water.

The initial report stated that AJ had “freaked out” on Tribute to the Troops host Michelle Beadle after she was seen speaking to Lee’s boyfriend CM Punk.

Wrestling News World had claimed that the incident was actually something intended to be filmed for the WWE App, and that Beadle and those in the vicinity were not aware that AJ was in character.

PWInsider, meanwhile, has published a lengthy article containing what they say is the full story. They report that AJ had approached Beadle after she said something to upset Punk. This, they say, was “not out of jealousy but because Beadle had spoken to Punk in a disrespectful manner.”

While Beadle’s comment towards Punk is not yet known, it is said that AJ responded by telling her “she was not to speak to Punk in such a manner again and if she did, there would be issues between the two.” Beadle then reported the incident to WWE officials.

An unnamed wrestler spoke directly to PWInsider, saying that anyone who claims that AJ raised her voice to Beadle “is a liar.”

With the importance WWE places on celebrities, this brought heat on AJ. As the unnamed source explains, “celebs are untouchable in the backstage scene. WWE wants them more than they need any wrestler, so automatically, the wrestler is going to be wrong here, even when [Lee] isn’t really.”

TLC Predictions: AJ Lee vs. Natalya for the Divas Title

Tonight at TLC, Natalya will take on Divas Champion AJ Lee with the title on the line. Will AJ’s near-record reign come to an end tonight? The Diva Dirt team weighs in:

Bobby: To start, I’m very excited for this match because I can’t wait to see Natalya finally get another pay per view shot at the title. She and AJ’s last bout on Main Event was one of my favorite showings in some time and I hope they can continue to not only deliver that level, but exceed it. The only problem I have with Natalya winning is that I’m not sure what she could do afterwards considering the face side is so stacked and the heel is not so much. She’d probably get a month long feud to rematch AJ, but then who? Summer Rae and Eva Marie are still new to the main roster division, but to their benefit, they haven’t been continuously weighed down with countless losses like Rosa Mendes or Aksana so they could be possibilities down the road (although personally I think Summer is ready now if she isn’t bogged down by comedy routines and could adapt to her NXT persona). Alicia Fox is a wildcard in that I’d find her believable in the top spot even though she has sort of fallen down the totem pole a bit so there could always be that if WWE wanted to go for it. Then you have Tamina as basically the only other viable challenger although I prefer her in a secondary role to AJ more than a top spot for now. Of course, I’d always love to see Kaitlyn turn heel, or maybe even Natalya herself turn heel as I think both could shine more in that role. Anyways! I’m going to say AJ Lee retains here only because I just don’t know where they can go with Natalya as champion unless someone turns or debuts and WWE never seems to want to go that route, especially this late in the year. I do think Nattie will be the one to dethrone AJ, but something just tells me it will be next month when they start fresh for the new year and can plan ahead.

Chris: Aah, the match I’ve been wanting to see on PPV for a long time. Natalya has had AJ Lee and Tamina’s number over the past couple of weeks, but I think AJ Lee will be able to best the battle tested veteran from Calgary and be that much closer to becoming the longest reigning Divas Champion ever.

Eleri: I’m going with Natalya. The Divas division needs a shake up once again and, personally, I think AJ’s run has become dry. Natalya would be fresh and a welcome change, and she deserves it. So yeah. Natalya for me.

Erin: Unless they have some brilliant storyline in the works, I don’t think the WWE has any plans to have AJ drop the title before she hits that milestone. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if she held it all the way to WrestleMania. As much as I think Natalya deserves the title, they haven’t built her up nearly enough to head up the division. To me, this just looks like another stop on the road for AJ. AJ Lee retains.

Jack: This may be an unpopular decision but I am incredibly bored of AJ Lee’s title run. Most of it is to do with the lackluster build for every feud AJ been in and WWE’s insistence on ruining the cast of Total Divas by having them all be faces gunning for the title. Another is because WWE haven’t done anything drastic or fresh with AJ Lee’s character in ages and I’m desperate to see her do something psychotic. Maybe dropping the belt could lead to a new ruthless AJ? However, I also can’t just blame WWE. AJ’s in-ring work was been so bland recently and I’ve not been impressed if I’m totally honest. I also keep asking myself, if WWE were to keep the belt on AJ, what would be next? In terms of Total Diva challengers, we’ve been there, done that, got the t-shirt, accidentally shrunk the t-shirt in the laundry and then we’ve thrown it in the bin. Natalya as champion is a long time coming and would be a refreshing change of pace. Natalya for the win!

Katelyn: I keep doing for WWE to do the obvious thing and provide Total Divas with a storyline that revolves around the Divas Championship. They still haven’t done it yet though, and every time I pick against AJ Lee I look foolish. So even though she is treading water as champion (and is now apparently in HOT water with management), I’m still going with AJ Lee. I think she’s going to break the record for longest reigning Divas Champion ever and drop it after that.

Steven: It seems that every time there is a Divas Championship match, I always predict a title change and it NEVER happens. Like ever… You would think I would have learned my lesson by now, right? Wrong. I’m putting my money on Natalya winning the title from AJ Lee tonight at TLC. Honestly it has been a long time coming and with the season finale of Total Divas tonight as well, it would be a great time for a cast member to win and give E! some good material for season two.

BREAKDOWN: 4 for AJ, 3 for Natalya.

Who do you agree with? Who is just dead wrong?

Report: AJ Lee in “Hot Water” Over Incident at Tribute to the Troops?

0

Dave Meltzer, through the Wrestling Observer’s latest podcast (via Lords of Pain), is reporting that Divas Champion AJ Lee is in “hot water” over an incident with Michelle Beadle, an entertainment reporter/host, at last week’s Tribute to the Troops.

According to Meltzer, AJ came upon Beadle speaking to her boyfriend CM Punk, “freaked out” and launched into an “obscenity-laced” tirade against her.

Meltzer also says that AJ comes across as very close, personality-wise, to her on-screen character, and “not in a good way”.

The podcast refers to a tweet by Beadle as evidence of the incident. She tweeted the message on Thursday, the day after the Tribute to the Troops taping:

Meltzer says it’s expected that AJ will be disciplined for the incident.

WWE Superstars Redux (December 13th, 2013): Aksana vs. Kaitlyn, Round 487

What’s up Diva fans and welcome to this week’s WWE Superstars Redux. Is Beyoncé around because I swear it’s deja-vu! Whilst Queen Bey is a hot topic right now, the same sadly and probably won’t be said about Kaitlyn and Aksana, who are squaring off for the 487th time in 2013 and the second time in as many weeks. On last week’s Superstars, Aksana won… just kidding. Will Kaitlyn keep her undefeated record against Aksana alive? Obviously but let’s pretend I didn’t say that so we can keep the suspense alive.

TO THE VIDEO!

Out first is everyone’s favorite tomboy Diva Kaitlyn and she’s doing that handsign to the crowd that I have no idea what it means. Let’s hope it’s not similar to the schizophrenic sign-language man responsible for signing for South African President Jacob Zuma this week. And yes, I just referenced Jacob Zuma in a redux. It’s going to be one of the days. Out next is Aksana, who baits an over-eager fan whilst walking down the ramp. One thing you cannot take away from Aksana, she knows how to work the crowd.

The match begins a collar and elbow tie-up that Aksana gets the best of. After clubbing Kaitlyn on the back of the head, the girls stare off before grappling once more, which Kaitlyn wins when she goes to Aksana’s waistlock before slamming Aksana to the mat. It’s 1-1 it seems! Aksana is beginning to get frustrated and runs right at Kaitlyn, who manages to pull off the same move she did just a few seconds earlier. Aksana goes to kick Kaitlyn yet the former Divas Champ grabs her foes foot, spins her around and hits yet another waistlock front slam before spanking Aksana on the tush.

Aksana charges at Kaitlyn again but gets a drop-toe hold and two clotheslines for her troubles. After a pin attempt, Kaitlyn whips Aksana into the corner but gets elbowed in the jaw. Aksana then kicks Kaitlyn in her gut and proceeds to grab her by the hair and wallop her down to the mat. The Lithuanian Lovely mounts Kaitlyn and delivers a series of strikes before taunting the crowd. It seems like Aksana did too much taunting as momentum shifts back to Kaitlyn, who nails Aksana with a backbreaker.

Kaitlyn’s offence continues to roll as she decks Aksana with a shoulder tackle. Following that, she gets kicked in the face yet rebounds with a really sloppy spinebuster. That obviously isn’t to keep Aksana down though, who dodges a spear and hits her finisher, the Divo Drop! Could Aksana get the win? No.

WHY DID YOU HOOK THE NEAR LEG? WHO ONLY EVER HOOKS THE NEAR LEG?? URGH!

Moving on before I rupture a vein, Aksana goes for another cover to try and salvage her first potential win since 2007 yet Kaitlyn kicks out. Frustrated, Aksana hits a few elbow drops before pinning Kaitlyn with her feet on the bottom rope. The referee obviously sees this blatant and quite frankly terrible attempt at cheating. I don’t know whether to find this funny or not as I’m still annoyed at the booking from earlier. Aksana then kicks Kaitlyn in the ribs before applying a chickenwing style move. It’s either that, a half nelson or a sloppy amalgamation of both, I’m not too sure! Even though it’s weakly applied, I do like the viciousness Aksana has showed locking it in.

Kaitlyn gets to a vertical base yet Aksana quickly throws her back down. Then, Aksana poses to the crowd as the camera awkwardly zooms on her face and the bit of hair stuck in her mouth. Got to love a bit of random, unintentional humor. Aksana picks Kaitlyn up and hits a sideslam before doing the ‘Move That Should Not Be Named’ that is in no way sexy. After a two count, Aksana quickyl gets to her feet and yells at the crowd in a weirdly abrupt fashion, allowing Kaitlyn to get a near fall with a schoolgirl. Then out of nowhere, Kaitlyn ducks a clothesline and hits a poor Spear for the win.

Thoughts: I really liked the fun, one-upping nature of the beginning of the match and then following the botched spinebuster, it went seriously downhill for me I’m afraid. The booking behind Aksana not hooking the far leg after the Divo Drop was just annoying and illogical. If she had done the move in the heat of the moment after being pummeled for a while, I could understand how she might not realize where she was and just laid on Kaitlyn, yet she was clearly in control of the situation and she even grabbed the far leg at first, only to let go of it. So daft and too annoying to overlook to try and enjoy the rest. I didn’t care for the long zoom-in on Aksana’s face as it was weird that Aksana would just be standing there in the ring and I also didn’t like the Spear at the end. It was definitely one of Kaitlyn’s weaker ones.

One thing I did like though was that the match was of a different structure than normal. The start was entertaining and the finish was unpredictable. It’s just a shame it all fell apart in the middle. Aksana and Kaitlyn have squared off so many times and to me, it’s apparent that they don’t have chemistry at all. Some people just don’t gel with others in the ring and that’s fine. But I think we’ve now seen enough. And with that, stay tuned, Jack will be back!

SmackDown Redux (December 13th, 2013): Slammy Winners Meet the Divas Champion

364

Good evening ladies and gents, and *in my finest 2006 Maryse bathtub video voice* welcome back… to Fri-a-day Night Smackdown! Unfortunately, Steven was not able to make it to the party today for he bumped into Ashley Massaro walking around New York and the two met up to discuss her habit of no-showing events. Needless to say, he’s still not reported back yet and so we’re forced to assume she’s gotten into his brain that no-showing is okay, but it’s not. It’s really not! (Jokes… Steven is at work and I’m just trying to come up with a fun story to keep everyone interested. Hopefully he doesn’t snap at me.)

Filling in for him today will be none other than me, Bobby, which I know sparks an immediate “Who?” from a lot of you. That’s perfectly okay as I like to think of myself as the JTG of Diva Dirt. I’m not in the forefront as much anymore (although that was per my request and I don’t think his was), but I’m still here and hoping you all haven’t forgotten about the good times we’ve had together in the past. And of course, if you haven’t… you know I have a problem trying to get to the point of a recap and/or article because I posses the tendency to babble rather uncontrollably. I promise I’m stopping now, so let’s get into the SmackDown festivities!

Tonight is the final night on the road to TLC, where AJ Lee will meet Natalya for the Divas Championship in a match I’ve very excited for. To celebrate, WWE is granting us a tag team match pitting the skip-centric sweetheart and her bodyguard, Tamina Snuka against Brie and Nikki of The Bella Twins. Not only that, but Natalya will be joining the commentary team (who can rename nameless as they are inferior to her). Without any further ado, let’s get underway before I bust out an NXT Redemption reference because you should all know that it’s nearly 2014 and I’ve still yet to forgive this company of their treatment to my prized jewel.

We start the video off with Big E Langston and the only shirt he seemingly owns running to the back for reasons I’m unsure of as I have yet to see SmackDown. I’m going to believe that since he and Kaitlyn seem friendly on Twitter, it’s because he’s outraged at her lack of TV time and is hunting down Vince McMahon or Stephanie McMahon to discuss the rage built up inside of me… err, him. But soon after that, AJ and Tamina are seen walking to the ring and I’m immediately dreading what’s to come. You guys probably don’t know this yet since I haven’t recapped in a while, but in addition to my arch rival, Maria Menounos, she has found a tag team partner to share my disgust in that of Tamina’s jacket. You see, every match she takes that thing off and whacks someone with it and for some reason it infuriates me. I just want a Diva to kick it back in her face to put a stop to this madness because I can’t take anymore! And so I’m afraid that I’m about to mercifully scream but we’ll see. Surprise me Bella Twins!

We hit the ring as AJ and Tamina slide into it. Meanwhile, our Bellas don’t get an entrance… but they DO get to pose with their Slammy so I guess that makes up for it. Nattie is on commentary claiming TLC will be one of her biggest matches ever, while we get a graphic to promote it. The bell sounds as Snuka starts off with Nikki (who I thank every day for finally switching up gears from Brie and making recaps 100x easier). She slams Nikki down and hits a shot at Brie, but that moment costs her as Nikki takes control with a few blows and a headscissors! Vivaaaaa La Bella, keep that black clad Diva down so she can’t remove the jacket of terror.

Suddenly AJ runs in and I don’t know why, but Nikki doesn’t seem to care as she hops atop the Divas champ and goes to town on her. Tamina throws her back and starts kicking… YES! God bless you cameraman. She looks to be removing her vest, but we cut to a shot of Natalya and return to see Snuka vestless and hitting a suplex. This now begs the age old question, if nobody (sans the live crowd) sees or hears Tamina smack a Bella with her clothing, did it really happen? I’m going to say no and just continue to thank whoever decided we would cut to Natalya’s shining face.

Tamina with a few kneestrikes and a Samoan Drop, while commentary plugs the Bella Twins Slammy win. In comes AJ now, who skips around Nikki and goes for a failed pin. Lee locks in a submission, but Nikki fights out as Brie rallies her sister on to make the tag, which she does! Clothesline! Dropkick! Dropkick! Dropkick to Tamina! She fires up the crowd and hits a running boot, followed by a missile dropkick for a two as Tamina breaks it up. Nikki runs in to even the odds and the twins kick Snuka out. Unfortunately for them, AJ then shoves Brie into Nikki and locks in the Black Widow! The hand starts swinging, signifying a tap out win for the team of Tamina and AJ. Soon after, the two stare off against the #1 contender in Natalya, as we ready for a fight of our lives come TLC!

Thoughts: I finally get to have a lot to say since I’ve been absent for a bit, so let’s start off with the match which I personally found pretty enjoyable. Do I think it’ll be something that I’ll remember in a year? Probably not. But to be honest part of that is because we’ve seen Brie, Nikki, Tamina and AJ face off in so many combinations of matches that they can tend to blur together. That doesn’t mean I’m saying they’re bad or anything, just very frequent. The action was solid, and I continue to love face Bellas in terms of ring work. They and AJ are the Divas I wish could all be faces as I just find them to be a lot more exciting when they can bust out flashy moves in comparison to being restricted to a submission based arsenal.

Speaking of the Bellas, how great is it that they’re finally being allowed to differentiate themselves? They have unique personalities and differ quite a bit as we’ve seen on Total Divas, so it’s about time WWE is letting them show it on TV. Brie being the firecracker who can go crazy with flashy moves and Nikki taking on a more powerhouse approach works wonders. Does Brie hit a lot of dropkicks? Yes. But dammit, when they look as good as hers do, hit every one you want because I ain’t mad at it. Brie should just hit them to everyone who claims she does too many and prove why she is 1/2 of the Diva(s) of the Year as Mama Bella and I stand to the side applauding her screaming “That’s Our Girl!” (Although I mean that as me being a fan and Mama Bella being their mama… I realized right after typing it that that could be read as me saying I’m Brie’s parent as well and I want to clear the air and say that I’m not. This has taken a strange turn now, so let’s move on.)

Even though I give Tamina grief for her jacket throwing, I’m incredibly happy she has finally found a role that fits and is seeing more TV time. Her ring work is improving the more she gets to be out there and she truly does play the badass bodyguard pretty well. I know their shtick of Tamina doing the work and AJ tagging in to lock in the Black Widow doesn’t please everybody, but I kind of like it because it does fit something believable. Tamina is this serious, big figure compared to the other Divas, whereas AJ is seen is small and tiny. It helps to give them something unique to do in matches where we may only get two minutes of action, and so I’m all for it even though it didn’t happen to the effect tonight that it usually does since we saw AJ do a bit more than just tagging in at the end.

I felt Natalya was better on commentary this week than she usually is, but I don’t blame her for not being to the level of an AJ or Summer Rae when it comes to talking for a long period of time. We’re not all perfect in a speaking role, and I feel like that with some people (like myself), it’s just difficult to think of what to say next in situations where all eyes are on you so to speak, and so your sentences don’t flow the greatest. I can speak from experience in doing speech presenting that it’s extremely nerve wracking for someone who isn’t comfortable being up there in the proverbial spotlight. If you’re not a natural, it can be obvious and sound rather wooden. In a way though, it also makes me relate to you because it’s something I’ve went through before so I identify with it in ways that some people who are naturals at it may not get and just keep wondering why everyone’s not perfect or poking fun at them. What I’m trying to say but have probably failed at, is that Natalya… I love you (not in a marriage way though, don’t come after me Tyson… I saw that episode of Total Divas) and think you’re great. Do I think you’re even greater as a heel? Yes. But you’re fun as a face and I’m excited to see you hopefully become Divas Champion (but can you just wait until the Royal Rumble so I can get AJ as a record holder? I still want you to win it, but please do this for me and I’ll babysit King Louis and Charlotte for you and Tyson one weekend because you know, I’m sure you want a random Diva Dirt writer to do this. I do live in South Florida though and have experience with cats, so it could happen! Don’t crush my dreams readers.)

Until next time if there is a next time,

Bobby
