Picture of the Day: Michelle McCool Visits the Other Squared Circle

38

Apparently former WWE Diva Michelle McCool enjoys to take in a few boxing rounds every now and then.

McCool was spotted at the big Bradley/Marquez fight in Las Vegas last night alongside her husband The Undertaker as the two took up the sights, smells and slots that Sin City had to offer.

The above photo of the happy couple was posted on WireImage. Michelle herself posted a photo from a different perspective, which she captioned simply, “Fun night…”

Even though a boxing ring is quite different from a wrestling ring, is anyone else hoping that the mere sight of a squared circle was enough to entice Michelle to a comeback? Okay, we see her hair’s a bit darker, but wigs are always an option. Or she could pull a Trish Stratus and just return with a new set of locks!

WSU Blood and Thunder in Review: The More Things Change…

havoklexxus

After a year of waiting, Lexxus‘s WSU World Championship dream came to an unfortunate end as Jessicka Havok once again reasserted her status as WSU’s hottest property.

The stars seemed aligned for Lexxus – this was one day shy of a year removed from their previous championship match, a three-way contest which also featured Alicia, and  which ended with Havok picking up the win – but Alicia taking the fall, not Lexxus. Not only was this a prime opportunity to tie up loose ends, but it came on the night WSU were set to announce their new co-owner and enter the promotion’s next era. Change was in the air!

Lexxus looked ready to seize the moment from the second the bell rang, not holding anything back and unleashing flurry after flurry of offense at a Havok who could do little to prevent the one-track-minded assault of Lexxus early on. Though the match became more evenly-contested towards the end, Lexxus was able to use the disparity in the two women’s sizes to her advantage, using speed and precision to keep Havok under control. However, the final stages of the match saw Havok’s sheer strength and resilience shine through, mustering up the power to block Lexxus’s barrage of strikes and land a devastating Air Raid Crash to retain her championship.

After the match, none other than CZW owner DJ Hyde came to the ring, declaring himself the new co-owner of WSU and announcing some improvements to be made to the promotion on his watch, such as an all-new WSU website (finally!) and the streaming of all WSU events on iPPV. As he presented Havok with her championship, however, she replied with a kick to the stomach and another Air Raid Crash, hitting home a message to Hyde that no matter who’s in charge, Jessicka Havok will be THE key player in the new era of WSU.

As if that wasn’t enough, two of the most terrifying women in all of women’s wrestling waged all-out war with each other, as Mickie Knuckles took on former SHIMMER Champion Saraya Knight in a No Disqualification, Fans Bring Weapons, Falls Count Anywhere match! Some creative gifts from the New Jersey crowd – including a miniature guitar, a computer keyboard, a staplegun and a baseball bat covered in tacks – really brought this match to another level, both women taking some sickening shots to the head with whatever was available, and not even making it to the ring until about eight minutes in! After some brutal weapon use, the finish came relatively cleanly as Mickie was able to land a sit-out pumphandle slam on Saraya to pick up the victory, the pair receiving a standing ovation for their efforts after the match.

It was a testament to the overall quality of the event that neither of those contests were the match of the night. That accolade goes to Kimber Lee and Allysin Kay, who put on a wrestling clinic that, though short, was intense and unfettered from bell-to-bell, exchanging strikes, German suplexes and a whole lot more before Kimber hit the Code Red for the win. A superb performance from two women whose 2013 has seen them both reach dazzling new heights in wrestling.

Scottish wonder Nikki Storm has greatly impressed every audience she’s wrestled in front of so far in her US tour, and last night was no exception, taking on Jenny Rose for the first time in another international dream match. From her trash talking to her mannerisms to her aggression and ability in the ring, the way Nikki Storm delivers herself verbally and physically is a joy to watch, and the pair wrestled an excellent match in which Rose came out victorious, submitting Storm in innovative fashion, and ensuring she returns to Pro Wrestling Diana in Japan with momentum on her side.

Another European star on the card was “Portugal’s Perfect Athlete” Shanna, who faced Leah Von Dutch, a woman she’s wrestled numerous times this year in the UK for promotions such as EVE, in the show’s opener. With Chris Dickinson accompanying her at ringside, she was able to use the numbers game to use the numbers game to her advantage, taking Von Dutch with a brutal double stomp from the top rope to kick off the night’s proceedings with a thud.

Elsewhere, enigmatic rookie Hania (Saturyne sans the mask, but I didn’t tell you that) answered Cherry Bomb‘s open challenge, defeating her with a moonsault in a solid match as the Twitterverse exploded in frustration trying to work out how to spell this new talent’s name (Hania? Janiya? Hanaya?), and Marti Belle retained her WSU Spirit Championship against Ezavel Suena in a decent but forgettable contest that picked up in excitement after the winning bell, as Suena attacked Marti in frustration, and Marti responded in kind by challenging her to a Championship vs Mask match at a later show. Also, Nevaeh and Christina Von Eerie defeated Veda Scott and Jessie Brooks in a tag match that, though fine, felt forced and struggled to keep my attention.

The show wasn’t without its misfortunes. An otherwise excellent, frenzied, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it six-woman tag match that saw Jodi D’MiloBarbi Hayden and Jessie Kaye defeat Santana Garrett, Xandra Bale and Jewells Malone was tainted by the news shortly afterwards that Xandra Bale had suffered an ankle injury during the match. No updates as of yet about the severity of the injury, but we wish Xandra all the best and a speedy recovery!

All in all, however, this was a fantastic show. WSU over the past year or so has become somewhat of a prodigal daughter in women’s wrestling – despite its takeover last year by Drew Cordeiro of Beyond Wrestling, it has lacked creative direction and struggled to put on and promote shows. This, however, was a throwback to the WSU of old, with solid booking and an array of superb in-ring performances in matches that seem to have a real sense of purpose once again. With the roster they have they are more than capable of making serious inroads in the coming months, while the introduction of overseas stars will add variety to the shows while increasing the company’s international appeal. DJ Hyde promised change, and if Blood And Thunder was anything to go by, it looks like we’ll get it!

OVW Write-Up (October 10th, 2013): And Miss OVW Is…

58

Finally, the moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived: the end of the Miss OVW contest. Instead of finishing up the contest at Saturday Night Special (thanks to the wrath of Lei’D Tapa), they’ve taken to television to crown the winner.

Lovely Lylah, Jessie Belle, Taeler Hendrix and Ray Lynn come to the ring dressed in their finest Kentucky prom dresses.

The tiara, which has somehow been retrieved from Taeler’s clutches, is ready to be awarded. Michael Tutus reminds us that the winner will receive a shot at Tapa’s Women’s Title, which sounds more like a punishment than a reward to me.

Just before Titus can announce the winner, Ray Lynn becomes captivated by his tie. Jessie Belle helps the poor girl back to her designated spot in the ring so Michael can get this show on the road.

Again, Titus is interrupted, this time by Taeler, who is ready to give her acceptance speech. He breaks the news to her that she is not Miss OVW – gasp!

Another interruption comes in the form of the OVW Women’s Champion, Lei’D Tapa, who heads to the ring, takes the microphone and announces that she couldn’t care less about the Miss OVW contest. Samesies!

Anyways, after Tapa relinquishes the mic, Titus finally announces the winner: Lylah! Just before she can be crowned, though, Taeler tries to steal the tiara. A struggle over it ensues, before Lylah finally frees it from Taeler’s clutches. She turns around…right into a big boot from Tapa.

With Lylah laid out, it’s safe to say we won’t be getting an acceptance speech tonight. Tapa leaves, Ray Lynn and Jessie check on Lylah and Taeler steals the tiara, running off like a cartoon villain.

Thoughts: To be honest, I’m just glad the Miss OVW contest is over. It was riddled with pointless segments and inconsistencies. Didn’t they loose like five competitors over the course of the contest?

I’m not really looking forward to another Tapa squash match, because everyone knows Lylah won’t stand a chance. The real story is who will make a run-in during or after the match? Hannah and Holly Blossom? I hope so. Their stint in the spotlight was way too short.

Picture of the Day: Auction Winner Spends the Day With Fandango and Summer Rae

0

Ever wanted to spend a day with WWE’s resident dance duo, Fandango and Summer Rae? Well for one lucky young boy named Michael, that dream became a reality this past Monday at Raw.

If you’ll remember back around WrestleMania time, the WWE held a variety of auctions in order to benefit Hurricane Sandy recovery. Clearly, it looks like the money was well spent, based on Summer’s description of what went down, which she posted along with the above photo collage on her Instagram account.

Rae wrote, “I had a blast hanging out with #Stars4Sandy winner Michael at #Raw this week! We went to lunch, then went backstage where he met tons of Superstars & Divas, & he even did our entrance with #Fandango & I! Check out the huge plate of cotton candy in this picture!”.

Let’s be real, whose dream ISN’T it to practice the entrance of AND enjoy a huge plate of cotton candy with Fandango and Summer? If you rose your hand, you’re either lying or just downright inhuman!

In Video: Cameron and Naomi Featured in Brodus Clay’s WWE 2K14 Entrance

Cameron and Naomi may not be apart of the official WWE 2K14 roster, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be absent from the game altogether.

The Funkadactyls can be seen in a video released by 2K Sports, which shows Brodus Clay making his entrance with the Divas by his side.

Watch the video below:

Still no word on whether Cameron and Naomi will be included in a DLC pack for the game.

WWE Superstars Redux (October 11th, 2013): Chinlocks, Chinlocks and More Chinlocks!

What’s up Diva fans and welcome to this week’s Supertars Redux! In a match that we we thought was going to air last week and didn’t, we see former rivals battle it out as Kaitlyn faces off against Tamina Snuka. Tamina and her new bodyguard bad self has came off a win over Aksana coming into this match (even though this was taped before the Aksana match; some weird Doctor Who style shenanigans going on here!) so can she turn that first win on Team AJ into a streak? Kaitlyn already lost once this week so she definitely won’t want to be getting pinned yet again. Can the 8th Militia Leader topple the Fijian force to be reckoned with? TO THE VIDEO!

Thoughts: This was a solid match in my opinion. It started off really well and both girls had great chemistry with one another and it also finished nicely too – yet the middle, OH THE MIDDLE! Move over Aksana’s headlock of doom, we now has the chinlocks of dread. To utilise such a bland submission for a major chunk of the match was a bad move in my opinion yet thankfully, it picked up again towards the end.

The Samoan Drop is also a better finisher for Tamina than the Big Boot. Ok, the Samoan Drop is normally just a signature move for wrestlers as opposed to a finisher, yet Tamina performed it quickly and fluidly, made it seem more impactful than seeing her stood there posing with Kaitlyn on her shoulders for a while before doing it. Good choice on the finish.

A decent showing from both of these two in terms of their in-ring work. The attires on the other hand… no. Tamina, for the love of god, it’s only been two matches and I’m already sick of you messing about with the bobble in your hair. Just have the Nicole Bass do for your entrance and then take the bobble out if you must before you’re on your back wrestling. Yes, I did just name drop Nicole Bass. Also, not a fan of the biker/emo/prison warden clothes either. Although there was a saving grace to wearing a waistcoat to the ring, you whipped Kaitlyn like a mule with it. I really liked that! Showcasing some personality – shock horror!

And with that, stay tuned, Jack will be back!

SmackDown Redux (October 11th, 2013): No Heels Allowed

Hola everyone, and welcome to this week’s SmackDown Redux! This week on the blue brand, Brie Bella teams up with Naomi and Cameron (with Nikki Bella) to take on the team of Natalya, Kaitlyn and Eva Marie (with JoJo). Can the Total Divas (and Kaitlyn) impress or will we see a repeat of Monday night’s debacle? Check out the match below:

We kick off the match with The Bellas and The Funkadactyls already in ring. After a bit of dancing and pompom shaking, Team Natalya makes their way to the ring. The referee signals for the bell, and our Divas match is underway.

Brie and Natalya start off for their respective teams and after a friendly handshake, the Divas break into a chain wrestling sequence, which Brie gets the better of with a impressive roll through into a half crab. After a bit of struggling, Nattie makes it to the ropes, forcing the break.

Frustrated, Nattie goes straight for the Sharpshooter, but Brie has her scouted and kicks her away. Before Brie can escape to her corner, Natalya pulls her to her feet, gives her a playful slap on the behind and drags her across the ring, tagging in Eva Marie.

Brie immediately jumps on the rookie, attempting to whip her across the ring, but Eva reverses it with a cartwheel and rolls Brie up for a nearfall. Eva locks in a armbar, but her offense is short-lived as Kaitlyn tags in and goes to work.

Kaitlyn works over Brie’s arm, but Brie grabs the ropes, flips to reverse the pressure and slips out of Kaitlyn’s grasp. Brie quick tags out to Cameron, who walks right into a kick to the gut from Kaitlyn followed by a scoopslam for a two count. Kaitlyn tries to pull Cameron, but gets a kick to the face for her trouble, resulting in a nearfall for Cameron.

Cameron tags in Naomi, but they missed a double team maneuver and Naomi pays the price, ending up on the receiving end of a huge spear from Kaitlyn, which results in all the Divas getting involved. After the smoke clears, Kaitlyn tries to get the jump on Naomi with a rollup from behind, but Naomi reverses it and picks up the win for her team. Post-match, The Bellas dance side by side with The Funkadactyls in the ring and all is right in the world.

We also got a (awkward/awesome) segment that saw Vickie Guererro lock lips with Alberto Del Rio. Yup. You totally read that correctly. Check it out below:

Thoughts: Honestly, I enjoyed the match more than I thought I would. Brie is really coming along well as a singles competitor and did really well and Eva’s ring time was kept at a minimum, which is good considering her experience level. Leaps and bounds better than the match in Monday.

My main concern now is, where does the division go now? For months, the Divas division has been thriving, due to the success of Total Divas and AJ Lee grudge against them. But with AJ’s status up in the air, it seems that things have come to a standstill for now. Let’s just hope that AJ comes back soon or WWE has a plan B, or I fear we could be stuck in this Diva limbo for a while (or at least until Total Divas comes back from hiatus…)

Well, that’s all for now, guys!  Until next week!

Taryn Terrell Confirms Pregnancy (Photo)

Today, Taryn confirmed those rumors, tweeting that she’s pregnant with a girl:

No word yet on how far along her pregnancy is, but by the looks of it, she’s well on her way!

Full Results: WSU Blood and Thunder

Diva Dirt presents live coverage of Women Superstars Uncensored’s Blood and Thunder event, airing on iPPV today.

Key matches on the card include Jessicka Havok defending her WSU World Championship against Lexxus, WSU Spirit Champion Marti Belle facing Ezavel Suena and a No Disqualification bout between Saraya Knight and Mickie Knuckles.

WSU “Blood and Thunder” comes to us live from the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, New Jersey, starting at 4pm ET (9pm GMT). Click here to order the show.

Full results below:

– According to WSU’s Twitter the show will be running late due to hockey running over. The expected start time is now 4:30 ET.

Shanna defeated Leah Von Dutch with a double stomp from the top rope. Solid opener. Chris Dickinson accompanied Shanna to the ring and remained at ringside throughout the match, occasionally interfering in Shanna’s favour. The finish came when Dickinson prevented Von Dutch from hitting a moonsault, letting Shanna in for a brutal double stomp while Von Dutch was in the tree of woe.

Jodi D’Milo, Barbi Haydn and Jessie Kaye defeated Santana Garrett, Xandra Bale and Jewells Malone. A fast-paced match that brought out the best in all six women, with some great highspots. The finish came when Barbi Hayden pinned Xandra Bale following a Spike DDT.

Hania defeated Cherry Bomb. A familiar-looking newcomer (Saturyne sans mask) answered Cherry Bomb’s open challenge. A good match that ended when Hania (spelling, anyone?) landed a moonsault on Cherry Bomb for the three-count.

Kimber Lee defeated Allysin Kay with a Yoshi Tonic. Before the match, Jessicka Havok came out and cut a promo to Kay, attacking Sassy Stephie for being absent from tonight’s show. The match itself was an excellent, really athletic affair with more reversals than you can shake a stick at, and an exchange of German suplexes to die for. Great stuff.

Mickie Knuckles defeated Saraya Knight. The match was No Disqualification, Fans Bring Weapons. What can I say – that was simply crazy. They didn’t even enter the ring until about nine minutes in! Weapons included tables, chairs, a cookie tray, and a kendo stick that perhaps overserved its purpose at times. Mickie got the pinfall in the end with a sitout pumphandle slam.

Marti Belle defeated Ezavel Suena to retain the WSU Spirit Championship. The match was decent but forgettable, with Belle rolling up Suena somewhat abruptly for the victory. After the match, Suena attacked Belle, then Belle cut a promo on the ring which I didn’t hear because my stream cut out.

Christina Von Eerie and Nevaeh defeated Veda Scott and Jessie Brooks. This was a decent match, with Von Eerie impressing in particular, getting the victory with a lungblower to Scott.

Jenny Rose defeated Nikki Storm by submission. Nikki Storm’s work in the US has been exemplary so far and this match was no exception. Her angry Glaswegian craic works even better across the pond than it does in the UK and she backed up the hype yet again with a superb performance in the ring against a more than up-for-it Jenny Rose, who got the win with what looked like a modified bow-and-arrow.

Jessicka Havok defeated Lexxus to retain the WSU World Championship. Lexxus sure didn’t hold back, going for the jugular right from the off with some vicious strikes and using the size difference between the two women to her advantage, maintaining control for much of the match. In the end, however, it was Havok who would come out victorious, landing the Air Raid Crash for the pinfall.

After the match, CZW owner DJ Hyde came out and announced that he was the new co-owner of WSU. He announced some changes would be made, such as a new WSU website (finally!). As he presents the title belt to Havok, she plants him with another Air Raid Crash and the show fades out as Havok makes her way to the back.

That’s it for our coverage of WSU Blood and Thunder! Check back tomorrow for a full review!

Bayley on Her Favorite Diva, Her Inspiration and Wanting to Wrestle Ivory

WWE.com has interviewed NXT Diva Bayley for their NXT 10-Count feature, discussing her favorite Diva, who she’d most like to wrestle, her history in wrestling and more.

Who inspired her to get into wrestling?: “My parents, along with “Macho Man” Randy Savage, The Rock, The Hardy Boyz, Lita, Eddie Guerrero, Ivory, Victoria and Triple H.”

Who is her favorite Diva?: “Currently my favorite is AJ Lee because she’s taken on the Divas division full speed and she’s made a huge impact. Plus, she gave me a hug one time!”

Which Diva from the past, present or future would she most like to wrestle?: “Ivory! She was amazing in the ring. She would be a huge challenge and I could learn a lot from her. She was also one of the nicest people I’ve ever met – very happy and energetic.”

Who wouldn’t she hug?: “You know when you first meet someone and they shake your hand? Hugging is how I shake hands. I live hug life. So no, there isn’t anyone I wouldn’t hug. But I’m not too sure if I’ll be hugging Summer Rae anytime soon after she broke my headband.”

What she does when she’s not wrestling: “Most of the time, if I’m not wrestling, I’m somewhere thinking of how I can get better or watching tape or writing down ideas. I like simple things, like finding new coffee places to try or new restaurants. I like to run trails outdoors, juggle, play basketball and hang with some awesome people I’ve met here. I used to love pogo sticking when I was a kid and I still do. That’s actually one of my favorite things to do.”

How did she starting wrestling?: “I’ve been wrestling for a little more than five years now. I went to my first live wrestling show when I was 12 years old for this independent promotion called Big Time Wrestling in Northern California. Since that night, I never missed a show of theirs. I knew once I was of age and my mom allowed it, I wanted to begin training with them. Once I did, I was wrestling there twice a week for more than four years before I got to come to NXT.”

How many headbands does she own?: “I have 15 headbands right now and plan to get a lot more very soon. Besides them being just plain awesome, I feel like my headbands represent the same to me as a mask does to Rey Mysterio or Sin Cara. I have all kinds of different colors and designs that all symbolize different things of schweetness.”

Impact Write-Up (October 10th, 2013): Brooke is In and ODB is Lei’D Out

59

What’s up Knockout fans? I wasn’t able to cover Impact last week because I was flat out with work, and to be honest I’m a bit gutted I missed Dixie clinging to Hulk Hogan’s leg. With that said, if this all means Hogan is well and truly on his way out, I’m all for it. Now onto the write-up!

Here comes Dixie Carter to kick things off. She sounds off on Hogan, calling him egotistical and the like. Gotta agree on that one. She says she gave him countless opportunities to come into her company, not that needed him. She didn’t need him. It was out of the goodness of her heart. What a nice lady.

‘I don’t need any Vince.’ Wait, what?

‘I don’t need any has been Eric Bischoff.’ I’ll give you that one.

‘I don’t need any Mr. Stephanie Levesque.’ Whaaaaaat. Wait, did she mean Mrs, or was she calling Trips Mr. Stephanie Levesque. Did I hear it wrong? Either way, Dixie did some nice name dropping tonight but let’s be honest, they’re not going to care. They’re probably not going to see it. But it adds to her character, so we’ll just let her get on with it. She wants to know how any of them can tel her to do any better, when she’s already the best in the business. Uhh…

She doesn’t get it. Another thing she doesn’t get is AJ Styles. She asked him nicely (apparently) last week to just leave her building please. But he didn’t listen. Dixie hopes AJ is there tonight, though, because she’s giving Bully Ray carte blanche to book AJ in any match he wants. Out comes Sting, none too happy. Dixie thanks him for being there; she knows how much he cares about her. She says she’s awake! She’s wide awake. She says everyone in the back needs to wake up and realize that she’s in charge, including Sting.

He inserted himself into her what?! I hear you cry. Just her position, ladies and gents. That’s all. She asks him if he wants to be like AJ, if he wants to be without a contract. She’ll do it, she will. Last week he walked them up to the edge of the cliff by making his own match. He did this to himself.

Sting interrupts and demands to know what is going on. Um… this segment is not great.

‘Sting, your future here is in the palm of my little bitty hand.’ Dixie says with a wink, before she leaves the ring.

Alright. So I understand what happened in that segment (I think) but it was not a good segment. (I don’t think.) That’s just my opinion. (Let me know what you think.)

Moving on! The next lady we see is ODB, the current Knockouts champ. Called out by the Bromance, ODB heads out with her husband, Eric Young. ODB is going to take on the guy she pinned two weeks back, Jessie. ODB takes it to him with some slaps and some right hands, before shoving his face into her boobs. Ever so classy, our ODB. Robbie E takes to the apron, but ODB’s chest is awaiting him. He too gets a gob full of boob. Finally, so does Eric Young. Well she can’t just leave her hubby out now, can she?

Jessie rushes in but ODB dodges for a roll up attempt. She gets a two count, then nails Jessie with a drop toe hold. Robbie E interferes, flooring ODB, but Eric Young jumps in to defend his wife’s honour and beats Robbie E all the way up the ramp. ODB whips out the liquid courage, but then someone’s music hits.

Lei’D Tapa is on her way.

ODB drinks up that courage, because she’s going to need it. I’ve seen some people say that Lei’D Tapa is just a second coming of Kong, or a Tamina 2.0, but whatever you might think, you would not want to piss her off. So, yeah, let’s just enjoy what TNA is trying – and I stress that – to do with the women’s division. We’ll see what happens. But back to the show. ODB is raring to go, but Lei’D Tapa knocks her down with one shoulder block. She bangs her head against the mat, shoves her into the corner, hits a big boot and then lays ODB out cold! Lei’D Tapa grabs the Knockouts championship and hold it high. A sign of things to come? Probably.

Here come Brooke and Velvet Sky. After their match last week was interrupted by Lei’D Tapa timely debut, they’re going to go at it tonight to determine the number one contender to ODB’s Knockouts title. Velvet has her boyfriend, Chris Sabin, in tow and I can only assume that things may go awry for her in his presence. It doesn’t help that her ribs are heavily taped after the beating she took from Lei’D Tapa last week. There’s no sign of Brooke’s hubby, Bully Ray, but he probably has a lot on his plate at the moment.

Out first is Velvet, whose signature booty shuffle on the ropes is covered up – quite literally – but Sabin and his vest. Velvet’s all his apparently, but she doesn’t look too happy about it. I have to say, this might be the quickest an on screen romance has gone down hill. Brooke heads out next to the music of Aces and Eights.

Let’s clarify, because I was confused and I might not have been the only one: whoever wins will be added to an already-happening match between ODB and Gail Kim at Bound For Glory. Sidenote: Does anyone else thing of the BFG film, or Roald Dahl book, whenever they see the logo? I do.

Anywho. The ladies don’t waste time. Velvet gains the upper hand early on, taking down Brooke with a shoulder block. Chris calls over Velvet and tells her to ‘step on her throat and crush her.’ He is just the sweetest! They lock up again and Brooke drives Velvet into the corner, choking her. She backs off for a moment too long and Velvet manages to turn the tables, repeatedly kicking Brooke in the gut which is sure to wind her. Velvet’s in control but she clutching her ribs a lot. Brooke capitalizes and takes control.

Brooke takes it to Velvet in the corner, lapping up the attention and the boos. Velvet fights out momentarily, but Brooke ties her up in the ropes, before targeting the bandaged mid-section of Velvet. Brooke throws her opponent out of the ring. Sabin’s in his girl’s corner but Brooke’s nowhere near finished as she drives Velvet back into the ring apron. She then throws her back in. She mocks Velvet on the ropes. Velvet doesn’t take too kindly to it and a well-placed kick knocks Brooke down a peg. Velvet pulls out her five moves of doom offense and finishes up with a bull dog. It earns her a two count.

Both ladies are back on their feet and it’s Velvet who gets the upper hand once again. She hits Brooke with a pretty good neckbreaker, and it earns her another two count. Sabin wants to help so he calls his ladylove over to him. He tries to help out with a little strategy, but in the meantime Brooke is pulling herself together. She rolls up Velvet and bam! Brooke gets the three count, and with it a shot at the Knockouts title at Bound For Glory. She had a fist full of tights but never mind.

It was a pretty short match but it did what it needed to. It put Brooke in the title hunt, so she can be something other than arm candy, and it furthered whatever storyline Velvet has going on with Sabin while keeping her out of the title picture for a little while. Not bad.

We got another glimpse of Dixie later on. She runs into AJ Styles and says she’s been looking everywhere for him! She tells him he doesn’t have to do the handicap match he’s been booked in tonight. In fact, he doesn’t even have to do the match against Bully Ray at Bound For Glory. She hands him a cheque and tells him to think about what he could do with the money if he were to just leave. One of her suggestions is to buy trailers that go on for days, and another is to start a foundation for all the little redneck kids who can’t read! The sentiment is there, but the delivery is not.

She loves him, wants to shake hands and call it a career. AaJ says she’s right, that it’s a lot of money, but he’s not interested. She can’t buy him. He rips up the cheque, then saunters off. Dixie does not look best pleased. She didn’t sign the cheque anyway. (Alright, I liked that little quip.)

Our final glimpse of the Knockouts comes in the form of Brooke as she accompanies her man, Bully Ray, out to ringside for the main event.

And that’s it for the Knockouts! Not a bad showing. Aside from Gail, we saw everyone. She could have been ringside for the number one contender’s match, but I won’t complain too much. I wouldn’t mind seeing the title on Brooke, because with her being in Aces and Eights now it could be interesting. Who knows what TNA is thinking about doing though.

Until next week, Eleri out!

NY Post Reveals Why Stephanie McMahon Has Been Selling WWE Stock

17

It seems like every week for months now, we’ve heard about WWE Executive VP of Creative Stephanie McMahon selling off shares of WWE stock. The reason for her doing so was unknown – until now.

The New York Post has published an article looking into the matter, reporting that Stephanie has sold 833,000 shares over 43 separate transactions, netting her about $8.3 million.

The Post says these sales were made to fund the building of a house. Stephanie already owns properties in Westport, Connecticut and Manhattan.

Despite this sell-off, the McMahon family still has firm control over the WWE, as Vince McMahon owns 87 percent of the 10-votes-per-share B class stock.

So never fear, Stephanie fans: the Billion Dollar Princess has no plans to jump ship.

More details on the WWE’s first comic book, simply titled WWE, have been released. The series, written by WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley, is set to be published by PaperCutz next June.

At this week’s New York Comic Con, several variant covers for the first issue were revealed, and Divas AJ Lee and Summer Rae can be spotted on two of them.

On one, AJ Lee and Summer Rae are seen amongst a crowd of Superstars standing behind John Cena.

In the other, AJ Lee is marveling at CM Punk. Hey, is it 2012 again? Fun fact: this cover is an homage to a classic Fantastic Four issue. AJ is playing the role of Sue Storm, AKA the Invisible Woman.

Check out both covers below:

The plot of the series is detailed by Comics Alliance as a “crime-meets-pro-wrestling tale set in Titan City, where John Cena has been framed for a crime he didn’t commit and CM Punk is a shadowy figure working to bring down the system.”

Comic book fans, will you be picking up this one?

NXT Redux (October 9th, 2013): Charlotte’s Winning Streak Continues as a Rivalry Heats Up

92

What’s up Diva fans and welcome to this week’s NXT Redux. It is I Jack, back yet again today to deliver the Diva goodies. The goodies over on NXT are thankfully a lot sweeter than they were on the main roster this week. On NXT, our usual combo of a match and a backstage segment continued as we got both plus an additional backstage segment to boot. With three segments featuring six Divas (Charlotte, Bayley, Sasha Banks, Summer Rae, Paige and Emma) and an indy performer (Santana Garrett) plus a little bit of Renee Young on commentary, I’m excited to get started. TO THE VIDEO!

This week’s yellow roped segment begins with Charlotte entering the arena first, with Bayley by her side. Her opponent doesn’t get an entrance and to a major surprise for anyone who didn’t read the spoilers, Charlotte’s opponent is none other than star of SHINE Wrestling, Santana Garrett. The match begins with some excellent chain wrestling from both women, who flip, tie-up and wristlock like those maneuvers were going out of fashion. Following that great chain of fluidity, Charlotte reverses one of Santana’s irish whips, sending her into the corner. The Daughter of Ric Flair then charges at Santana, who delivers a seriously stiff looking elbow to the face before using Charlotte’s to send the North Carolina native face first into the second turnbuckle. From there, Santana executes a snapmare which she follows up with a running kick to the gut. If I’m being picky, the kick looked kind of lackluster to me.

Renee Young has been stellar on commentary in the last few weeks continued to sound educated as she referenced comments that Charlotte made about a WWE.com article a few months ago. Whilst it was good that Renee referenced this and clearly does her research, Charlotte was wooing in her entrance; not exactly a sign of her trying to create her own image! Whilst it’s not Renee’s fault Charlotte has seemingly done a u-turn regarding those comments, she probably shouldn’t have brought it up. When commentary and the action on screen disconnect, it dilutes the integrity of either or both aspects. Again, I’m being picky I guess!

Continuing in the ring now, Santana hits a sweet russian leg sweep which she transitions into a not so sweet submission. Don’t get me wrong, it looked impressive at first, yet Charlotte was in it for way too long and it looked like it wasn’t grasped as tight as it did at the start. I’m not in an easy to please mood today, if you couldn’t tell! After Sasha and Summer make their way to ringside and Charlotte breaks from the eternity long submission, Charlotte levels Santana with two chops, once again showing us signs of her famous daddy! Charlotte then hits the Charlotte’s Web yet she can only muster a near fall. Sasha Banks then distracts Charlotte on the steel steps, and Santana looks to take advantage, yet the unsigned talent can’t get the win. Charlotte hits a slow looking flapjack before her finish move goes completely wrong. Charlotte picks up the win regardless.

After the match, Summer and Sasha take to the mic (well, Summer speaks and Sasha just stands there) and Summer says that now that Paige has been sent packing thanks to Sasha, the beautiful fierce females, or BFFs, are going to run the entire WWE and there’s not a damn thing anyone can do about it. One woman majorly disagrees with this, the returning NXT Women’s Champion and proud owner of my heart, Paige! Paige storms into the ring for the first time in a month and she headbutts Sasha. The numbers game eventually gets to her yet Emma makes the save.

Skipping to 26:37 in the video now and Sasha and Summer takes to the mic to address the brewing situation between her, Sasha and their two rivals. Summer says that her and Sasha are not going to get embarrassed, they’re going to get even. They won’t back down and they challenge Emma and Paige to a tag match next week. Now Tony Dawson, go and get a response from the faces, as it’s going to be your last ever call of duty in WWE!

Later, at the 32:28 mark, Paige and Emma are seen backstage and the banter is hilarious. Tony asks them if they will accept the challenge laid down by BFFs and of course they do – Paige never backs down from a fight!

Thoughts: Well first of all, thank the lord that this was better than Main Event! Whilst the match was one of Charlotte’s worst showings in my opinion, it started out really well, and Charlotte showed signs of promise in terms of her wrestling and not just spots of athleticism. I’m still not keen on her newer haircut though. And Bayley, why were you there? I don’t believe for one minute that the Bayley and Charlotte characters are good friends.

Santana also did well in the early going yet I felt like her submission was a little dodgy and no doubt the finish will be blamed on her. I hope she gets a second chance to prove to WWE what she can do real soon. Good luck Santana!

Summer’s in-ring promo was once again excellent. Summer is at home on the microphone and she nailed it yet again, like she also did in the backstage segment. I love that Summer and Sasha’s duo now has a name, ‘The BFFs’ and all I ask now is that Sasha can have a chance to speak on the mic and prove why she’s ‘The Boss’ and not just a sidekick.

I also loved Emma and Paige’s interaction with one another. Although it pains me to admit it, Paige can overact at times yet this time, her performance was funny and genuinely believable. Emma sticking her hands in my personal space all the time would rile me up too Paige! Paige and Emma convey a relationship of respect to me really well and it’s clear that although Paige can’t take Emma seriously a lot of the time, she knows she is still a threat to her Women’s Championship. I’m really looking forward to the tag team match next week thanks to the solid foundation laid this week. Bring on next week!

And with that, stay tuned, Jack will be back!

WWE Main Event Redux (October 9th, 2013): Can Tamina Finally Make a Statement?

233

What’s up Diva fans and welcome to the WWE Main Event Redux! Main Event is my first of two reduxes today so I’m not going to beat around the bush, so let’s get cracking! This week on Main Event, it was heel vs heel(?) as Tamina Snuka faced off against Aksana? On paper, this sounds absolutely horrible. Did it actually pan out that way? Let’s find out. TO THE VIDEO!

Out first this week is Aksana, who is wearing a weird two-coloured singlet that sort of makes her look like a shiny holofoil Pokémon card. If Aksana was a Pokémon card, she would most likely be a ‘Common’, like a Weedle or something. Her losing streak definitely reflects that! After Aksana seductively taunts the crowd, the porn music sultry saxophone music ends as the islander theme of Tamina rings throughout the arena. Is it just me or should Tamina have a new theme now? The whole Pacific Island drum beats aren’t really working for me now. “TA-ME-NAH”. NO PUH-LEASE!

The match starts with Aksana taking off her t-shirt in an attempt to show off to the audience. Since when did she start pandering to the fans? So out of character. Tamina noticed this clearly and proceeded to give Aksana a beating to try and make her remember what she normally acts like. These two teamed up quite a lot in the past and Tamina is not letting Aksana start flirting with the fans, especially in a match with her! Tamina grabs Aksana’s ankles before Aksana kicks her off and goes for a clotheslines. Tamina ducks and delivers a couple of chops before forcing Aksana into the corner and kicking her in the gut. AJ Lee‘s muscle then looks to shoulder tackle her foe, yet Aksana averts the danger and hits a wristlock takedown, which she follows up with a series of boots to the arm.

Aksana continues to work over the arm before pushing Tamina to the mat and elbow dropping her left upper limb. Alex Riley then says that Aksana has a “little bit of Catwoman” in her. Is this a compliment? To be quite honest, Aksana’s career has been more of a Halle Berry Catwoman than a Anne Hathaway one so it wasn’t exactly the best comparison for Alex to make. Aksana then applies a submission on Tamina’s arm and this is where the only hilarious part of the match happened. Tamina is clearly not in pain as instead of trying to get out of the submission, she is more bothered about getting the estranged bobble out of her that is clearly not keeping that weave in place. LOL! Aksana, you are looking so strong right now! (I’m being sarcastic)

Tamina eventually tries to get out the far from dangerous predicament yet Aksana knocks her to the mat by the hair before taunting to the crowd and hitting a sidewalk slam. Aksana then starts to do my mortal enemy a.k.a the sexy slug crawl, yet thank god, she doesn’t get to complete it as Tamina changes the momentum with a stiff kick to the shoulder. Tamina then continues to use her feet as weapons (more on that later) as she stomps Aksana into oblivion. Tamina then fails to hit a snapmare correctly before hitting a knee drop. The bodyguard Diva gets a one count before wrapping a chin lock onto Aksana. The crowd then start to rally behind Aksana (I guess WWE spiked the drinks of everyone) before Aksana unleashes some Jenna Morasca esque slaps that I’ll say nothing more about. Aksana then hits a sloppy neckbreaker before trying and failing to hit a dropkick. A gutbuster and big boot later, Tamina covers Aksana and gets the win out of nowhere.

Thoughts: Ok, let’s start with the positives.

Onto the negatives now and it’s sad to say that there were so many. Firstly, let’s talk about the booking behind this. How on earth does this make sense? Tamina is a heel that has been placed in a new character as a dominating bodyguard and Aksana is a heel that hasn’t won since she beat Maxine on WWE Superstars in 2010 or early 2011. If she’s won since then, it wasn’t in anyway memorable or she didn’t score the pin. Putting these two thoughts together, who decided that this match and the way the moves went together should have taken place? Aksana was on the offence way too much considering Tamina is meant to look strong and the audience haven’t been given any reason to care for both girls, especially when they are made to root for one when they are the victim of a submission. These girls haven’t been given the mic time to create interesting characters so how on earth are the crowd meant to care about either of them and choose one to get behind? Aksana sort of had the crowd behind her yet her character hasn’t had one endearing quality recently so I don’t know why the crowd faintly helped her out of the submission predicament. From the booking side of things, this match was a mess.

On a character note, I can’t help but feel in two minds about Tamina’s lack of using the Superfly Splash. Whilst I understand that since she has a new character and the Superfly Splash doesn’t necessarily reflect that, I feel that her finisher and heritage was what made her stand out on in the division. Although using her Dad’s gimmick was not original, it was different within the division. Although there are no other Diva bodyguards right now, I feel like her older character was more intriguing than a burly brawler wearing all black and not saying anything. On top of this, a Big Boot as a finisher? Really? How original.

In terms of the match itself, nothing stood out to me. The rest holds were generic, Tamina managed to not execute a snapmare correctly and the finish was just flat to me. And the fact Tamina was taking her bobble out during a submission. Wow. It was just as though she wasn’t bothered about delivering a polished performance.

In closing, I feel like I have ranted a lot and not said anything positive yet I am just over these two girls. Tamina’s new character hasn’t done anything yet and I just don’t believe her and AJ’s relationship. After the way this match was booked, why should I believe Tamina’s role anymore than I did before? She was on the mat for most of the match. This should have been a totally one-sided squash. Aksana was great as a face in FCW and unless she goes back to that, I’m not here for her. I feel like she could be a great comedic face yet at the moment, she is locked within a stale character that needs a new lease of life. Let’s hope today’s second Redux is more positive!

And with that, stay tuned, Jack will be back! (Sooner rather than later!)
