Brie’s More Fun Than You Can Shake a Stick at

6

We’ve seen our fair share of random props in WWE.com photoshoots, but maybe none as awkward as this: a piñata? Now I know Brie Bella, the lucky Diva lugging it around, is of partial Mexican descent, but is that enough to include such a visual non-sequitor? Nevertheless, “Piñata Princess”, as this photoshoot has been dubbed, is still pretty good, thanks to Brie’s great looks and assortment of poses. Red is definitely her color. I must say that I’m glad that WWE gave her a photoshoot separate from her sister, but I’m pretty sure this was taken before Nikki was discovered, so I won’t give them too much credit. Besides, I’m still raising my eyebrow at the piñata – it’s just too weird to get past.

In extra Brie goodness, it’s reported that twinnie is dating ‘famous’ musician, Richie Kotzen. I know… who? Apparently he was once part of the rock band, Poison.

Raw Redux – December 1st, 2008

16

This week on Raw: The comeback Diva, Melina scored another victory, this time over Jillian. The A-Lister had some words for Glamarella too.

Thoughts & Reactions
Long time no see, right? Raw just got interesting about a week ago, when Melina made her return to Monday nights. It seems that Melina is a Diva who can do no wrong, coming back stronger, better and faster than ever before. With a new move in her arsenal that had fans going ‘wow’, Melina looked like she hadn’t skipped a beat last week in a six Diva tag match.

And this week? Melina faced off against her former BFF (and real life BFF), Jillian! Rather unusual, Jillian got a massive amount of offense in this match which I found bizarre. Jillian barely gets any offense in against the likes of Kelly Kelly, Candice and Mickie James and now all of a sudden she’s controlling most of her match with Melina? Jillian is your standard jobber at this point in time, let’s face it, so I don’t think it made the A-List Diva look too strong by jobbing out for most of the match. I would much rather have this match be about Melina showing off some of her moveset, because I think that alone is rather exciting for the fans. Jillian controlling the match – despite us knowing she would lose eventually – wasn’t exactly riveting television. That said, I think Jillian came off really strong and proved what a great wrestler she is. This really highlighted Jillian in a way that we’re not used to seeing her, but unfortunately she’ll always be a jobber.

I really love Melina’s ‘Last Call’ powerbomb, very different and great to watch. But I really hope she continues to use her inverted split-leg drop, I love that move. Maybe the Last Call could be a signature move instead? I think the leg drop move is a real defining finisher that leads nicely into a pinfall, I loved last week when she counted 1-2-3 on her hand too. I know it’s just a small detail, but it really creates a nice overall finisher.

And then here’s where things got interesting. What’s that… a Diva holding a microphone? Really? When was the last time you saw a Diva other than Lilian Garcia or Eve hold a microphone? Melina is great on the microphone as we know from her MNM days and I’m glad that WWE gave her the opportunity to be involved in a promo. If you ask me, this shows plot development and a confidence in Melina and her potential feud with Beth Phoenix. To be an all around top Diva you have to be able to work a mic but not since the days of Trish Stratus, has WWE really given a Diva some mic time so that was cool to see. WWE planted the seeds nicely for the continuation of a Beth-Melina feud, I would have liked them to touch upon their history a little more, but this was effective too. The little comedic spot with Santino was nicely done. I like that WWE is actually creating a story here and hopefully they continue that in coming weeks between Beth and Melina. Already Melina’s comeback is getting off to a far better start than Candice did a couple of months ago. Melina looked on fine form in her return match, while Candice looked sloppy and uneasy in hers – both of which were coincidentally, six Diva tags. Candice was awarded a Women’s Championship shot the very next week whereas from the looks of this week’s show, Melina is working for hers and having an actual storyline with Beth. Beth and Candice had a built-in storyline that WWE didn’t push at all, no revenge plot or anything even though Candice was their top Diva. I definitely think her in-ring performance hindered her chances at a long programme with Beth. It’s nice to see that Melina is being pushed over the more obvious choices of Candice and Kelly, a great vote of confidence and I think the in-ring work between these two is going to be very strong.

Kelly is No Longer the WWE’s Zoolander

2

It’s been a while since Kelly Kelly has had a photoshoot, and in “Ready for the Ring” she’s back and (in my opinion) better than ever. She’s wearing two different ring attires, each showing her girly personality. The bright and shiny purples and pinks would probably be an eyesore on regular clothing, but we all know wrestling attire is alwaaaays over the top. The best part, though, it that Kelly’s actually mixing up her poses. It’s always been her “downfall”, if you will, that she displayed only a few select facial expressions, and it looks like she may be getting away from that a bit. Before long, she’ll probably have to relinquish her “most boring photoshoots” crown to someone else! Any takers?

The Mickie James Show: Injured, Wants to Act

4

Welcome to The Mickie James Show, basically a bumper post dedicated to yup, you guessed it, Mickie James! There’s two interesting pieces of news floating around the interwebz about the former Women’s Champ, so let’s delve right in.

Mickie injured
First piece of news is that Mickie is currently working with a hyperextended elbow. WWE has tried to lighten up Mickster’s schedule by having her work as a referee or guest time keeper during the European tour rather than wrestle. She has wrestled sparingly – mainly on television – of late. Our best wishes to Mickie on a speedy recovery!

With Melina back, I think WWE should just go ahead and give Mickie some time off to rest up. In three years, Mickie’s never been out with an injury and really is invaluable to WWE. They should make sure she’s fit and healthy, right now with the focus on Melina, they can afford to give her a little time off. This would also help freshen up her character, making the fans miss her and then having her come back.

Mickie at the movies
The four time Women’s Champion has also expressed her desire to act, in an interview with one of the Pussycat Dolls that isn’t Nicole. Does it really matter which one? Nicole steals all the spotlight anyway. Oh right… Mickie…

If I was to accomplish anything outside of the continuous growth of my WWE career, it would be to star in at least one movie. I’ve always found them fascinating, and would lose myself in stories as a child. I would sometimes daydream and pretend I was the leading female in whatever movie I was watching. I have always dreamed of being a star on the big screen.

Hmm, judging by Mickie’s acting on WWE television methinks she should stick to what she knows best.

The WWE Divas View

9

Being a full-time/working student, I’m not able to dedicate as much time as I’d like to at the fan forums I belong to, the websites I run, or even for a few ‘Hot Topics’ here at Diva-Dirt.Com – ay, le sigh. But when I do muster up enough strength and settle behind a computer screen, I’m going to bask in the opportunity.

I’ve always said: “Diva-Dirt.Com reminds me of ABC’s ‘The View‘ – an eclectic group of ladies with different points of view. We use this platform to which we’re able to sound off and spread love. That being said, love us or hate us, we’re here to stay.” Well, as the blogger with less than ten post counts under her belt and having had more comebacks than Shawn Michaels himself, I’m still apart of this team, damnit!

So, it’s my day off. I wake up and figure the rest of the world can wait. No class. No work. Still in my PJs and memories fresh from the night before, I long for my favorite intro: “All that, Hot Topics, and more! Coming up on Season Eleven of The View!” As I channel surf in search for “The View” indeed, there it is, in big, bold, black and red letters: President-Elect Barack Obama Announces National Security Team.

Are you shitting me?! I want to watch “The View”, damnit! Yes, I’m proud of my country and the many ‘changes’ it’ll be going through. Of course I am, but until its January 20, 2009 – the day in which Obama, Inc. takes over the White House, I really don’t want to hear, read or learn about what’s going on around me… especially on my day off where I want to do what I want to do. Capeash?

On a side-note, I am glad to see Hillary Clinton back in the White House. Represent NY, what, what!

Ugh. So then it hits me: I should do something productive; “What haven’t I done in a while? Diva-Dirt.Com!” So, I’ve decided that if I can’t watch “The View” then I’ll just create it. And so, with this long introduction and forward into my next installment of PROJECT DIVA, I present to you… WWE: THE VIEW.

Melina vs Jillian Announced for Raw

12

The comeback tour rolls on for the A-List Diva, Melina. Hot off the heels of her showstopping return last week, WWE.com has now announced that the former Women’s Champion will take on her ex-BFF, Jillian on Raw tonight. Squash match, anyone?

Although we can all predict the outcome, it’s nice to see WWE keeping things strong for Melina by promoting her match in advance. It looks like she will be the next face Diva to get a push on Raw, I wouldn’t count out her challenging Beth Phoenix for the Women’s Championship at Armageddon.

Batista Notches Up Another Diva

19

Womanizer, womanizer, you’re a womanizer baby… Oops, he did it again! Okay enough of the Britney (I can’t stand her anyway), but former World Heavyweight Champion, Batista fessed up to dating (and banging) Raw’s Kelly Kelly on a radio show this morning. When asked about the Divas and Kelly in particular, the hosts ask if he’s allowed to bang them to which Batista responded: “Been there done that.”

Batista says that he and Kelly dated a few months ago but that their relationship didn’t work out due to age difference but not before saying that Kelly was immature for a 21 year old. Well gee dumbass, that’s what happens when you date a girl that’s young enough to be your daughter. Kelly is only 21 years old, 18 years the junior of 39-year old Batista. And what of Kelly’s relationship to former WWE Superstar, Test? I guess that didn’t stop him when Melina was dating John Morrison.

SmackDown Watch: November 28, 2008

This week, the Michelle McCool, Brie Bella, & Nikki Bella take on Victoria, Maryse, & Natalya in a Six Diva tag team match. Keep a look out for a new (maybe improved?) side of Michelle:

MICHELLE MCCOOL & THE BELLA TWINS VS. VICTORIA, MARYSE, & NATALYA

The Weight Issue Affects Divas Too!

8

In this crazy celebrity-obsessed culture that we call life, we are always being presented negative images of women in magazines, on television etc. I’m sure you know all about it. Stick thin models, 90210 stars etc. etc. But this issue has never been something that’s ever affected wrestling because while some of them may not be the best wrestlers, all of the Divas have to be healthy, exercise and eat right. And even though they may slut it up in the wardrobe department, the Divas do for the most part represent a positive image of body shape for women and especially young girls. Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Natalya are just examples of a full figured Diva and not necessarily fat.

So while none of these Divas have anything to be self conscious about, there is one woman in WWE who is feeling rather self conscious:

In case you didn’t notice, on Monday’s RAW, WWE’s cameras only shot Stephanie McMahon from the waist/chest up. Strangely, there were absolutely no full-body shots of Mrs. McMahon. According to a backstage source, it was no accident as the production crew did so on purpose due to Stephanie’s body shape at the moment and because she was in somewhat of a form-fitting outfit on RAW.

WWE’s really particular on how they want their performers to look on television, as they don’t want to show them in a less-than-stellar light. As you all know, Stephanie gave birth to her second child this past July, a daughter named Murphy Claire Levesque.

This same camera tactic was done as recently as a few weeks before she gave birth when she made some on-camera announcements regarding the status of RAW from WWE’s Studios in Stamford, CT. Of course, Stephanie was quite pregnant at the time, but you would never know it from the way she was shot on camera as she was only shot from the chest up.

Anyway, Stephanie gained quite a bit of weight during her second pregnancy, which unfortunately for her, she hasn’t completely lost yet, hence the business suits and slimming black outfits, and why you shouldn’t expect to see her don anything too revealing in her latest on-camera role.

It’s pretty well known within WWE that Stephanie has had confidence issues in the past regarding her appearance, going as far to say that a rude fan sign at least in part influenced her to get breast implants, and once saying on-screen “that she’s no Torrie Wilson” and that one of the reasons America is so great is because there are different body types and images.

If I could give Steph one piece of advice it would be to embrace the fact that she’s not stick thin and present a healthy image on television, because she’s by no means fat. However, given that this is mainly pregnancy weight I can definitely identify. There’s a difference between being a little thicker or putting on some weight in general and putting on some weight during a pregnancy, so before people blast Steph for acting like a diva, take that into account. Women are far more consciencious of their post-pregnancy bodies than they would be if they’d just put on a little weight over Christmas let’s say. But from what I’ve seen, she looks pretty darn great for someone who just had a baby!

PS: Isn’t it somewhat endearing to know that the Billion Dollar Princess has flaws and insecurities just like us lowly humans lol?

Maria’s HAIRY Little Secret…

21

Pass the Rolaids and just let me roll right in here… Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Are you stuffed on stuffing? Can you hardly move as your stomach recovers from finding such naughty euphoria from the dinner table? Or do you just not give a flying duck (or turkey) about today since it has no relevance to you or your country’s history? No matter! I have a treat for you in the equivalent of Fruit Cake & an Ashley Massaro wrestling match (believe me, you won’t be asking for second helpings) – Maria !!!

A photo has been brought to my attention, and I just couldn’t resist myself! Oh. My. God. What was she thinking? Maria pulled a Julia Roberts and unleashed her sandpaper pits for the world to see. This photograph had been taken at Maria’s Playboy signing, and in the words of Monica Geller-Bing: I know, right?! Why this treasure hadn’t been unleashed sooner is beyond me, but like a missed period, better late than never. I’ve already said it, and I’ll say it again: Maria should forget about chasing after the Divas Championship and perhaps chase something else, like, oh… I don’t know, a razor and some shaving cream!

All of a sudden, I just don’t feel as full anymore. But, I’ve got to admit, Maria’s unshaved pits (to which I’m sure most will beg it’s been photoshopped; click here if you do) is just another thing I’m thankful for this year. Ashley’s release and Maria’s humiliation? Pretty darn good year, if I say so myself.

Oh, and welcome back, Josie! Version 3.0 – Lude, crude, but with a semi-likable attitude!

Maria is Out Of Her Damn Mind

28

Usually, with multi-Diva photoshoots, I try to encorporate as many Divas as possible into the header photo. However, this definitely called for Maria to be front and center. Sure, Natalya and Maryse have new photos as well, and look pretty damn good, (Maryse is stunning, but is Natalya sucking in her stomach? Why so rigid?) but what in the fuck (pardon my French) is Maria wearing?????? I.. I can’t even imagine what she was thinking when she was putting together this outfit. It looks like a Victoria‘s Secret threw up on her. It’s really just.. mind boggling. But hey, maybe she went dumpster diving for costume ideas and landed on this one. Thrifty, but sure as hell not aesthetically pleasing. But who knows, maybe a native Seminole tribe dressed up in lace gloves, pink bras, fishnets, and fuzzy halo-thingys. It’s just.. ugh.. there’s just nothing else to say. o.O

Check out Natalya, Maryse, & Maria’s photos at the end of the gallery.

Gail Kim Debuting in New Year?

4

While former Knockouts and Women’s Champion, Gail Kim was brought to the road for the Survivor Series weekend, it’s now being reported there was never any intention for her to debut at any of the tapings. Gail (and the entire WWE roster for that matter) were called to be part of the Survivor Series weekend, Monday’s Raw tapings and last night’s SmackDown double tapings.

Reason being, WWE shot new chroma-key footage for all Superstars over the weekend in a Boston hotel. Chroma-key footage is the little moving promos we see on all WWE shows when they announce matches coming up later on the broadcast or on pay per view. It’s also being rumoured that Gail may have filmed ‘coming soon’ promos to air on SmackDown, the brand she is locked to be part of.

Right now, it looks like WWE is holding off Gail’s debut until the New Year. SmackDown taped two weeks worth of shows last night bringing them through to the beginning of December. From there, travelling will lighten up over the Christmas period and many talents will be part of the annual Tribute to the Troops. The next few weeks just don’t seem like a viable time to introduce a new talent.

SmackDown Spoilers: November 28th and December 5th

WWE taped two weeks worth of shows last night, check out spoilers below.

EDIT: More detailed spoilers now added.

November 28th
Maryse, Natalya & Victoria def. The Bella Twins & Michelle McCool
Brie Bella accidentally clotheslined Michelle leading to Maryse pinning her. After the match, Michelle shouted at the Bella Twins, this led to Maria coming out to try and keep the peace. Michelle slaps Maria and shoves her down to the mat, leaving the ring shouting at Maria.

December 5th
Maria def. Michelle McCool in a non-title match
Maria beats McCool with a schoolboy. Backstage, Maria celebrates her win with the Bella Twins, Carlito and Primo. Michelle comes in and kicks Maria in the chest.

Gail Kim SmackDown Bound

Well I guess we could have figured this out by deduction after Melina retured to Raw last night, but Mike Johnson of PWInsider has confirmed that Gail Kim is heading to SmackDown. As we mentioned yesterday, Gail has been travelling with WWE for the past week and Johnson reports that she has shot promotional footage and photographs for her new WWE run. Word is Gail could return as soon as tonight’s SmackDown tapings which is a double-header, filming for this week and next week.

With Michelle McCool‘s questionable behaviour on SmackDown of late teasing a heel turn, it looks like Gail could slot nicely in as the new top face for the blue brand. I’m certainly excited to see Gail face off against McCool, Maryse, Victoria and most of all, Natalya! It’s rumoured that Gail is dating Nattie’s uncle, Hall of Famer Bret Hart. I think Gail joining SmackDown is just further proof of of how dominant the blue brand’s Divas division has been over Raw’s women’s division this past year.

And how about this little golden nugget: Gail’s presence on SmackDown means that she could be the first woman in history to hold the Women’s, Divas and Knockouts Championships.

Michelle’s Got Good Jeans Genes

7

You’ve gotta hand it to a girl who can wear denim cutoffs and knee-high boots and not look hoochie. Michelle McCool achieves this and more in her new photoshoot “Nice Genes”. She looks naturally beautiful in the casual and relatively simple look. Normally, cutoffs wouldn’t bring to mind words like “natural” and “simple”, but I think the moreso conservative top helps balance out the amount of skin she’s showing. You know how they say “if you’re showing your legs, cover your chest” and vice vera (or something like that)? She takes that idea and manages to look sexy while maintaing her “southern good girl” image. That’s something she hasn’t done very well in the past, but she certainly achieves it here.

2 Laylas For the Price of 1

3

Layla produces arguably the WWE’s best photoshoots, so if there’s any Diva that deserves a double-sized photoshoot, it’s her. “Treasure”, her latest photoshoot, has an obvious pattern – bright gold and sleek black. She looks phenomenal in both looks, taking two similar concepts and making them each their own and not getting repetitive like some Divas do from photoshoot to photoshoot (hey there, Kelly). The first look is intriguing, with the gold script seen on both her top and at her knees. It’s definitely one she should wear in the ring – perhaps her “signature look”? The second look is more casual, with a tank top and jeans accented by gold jewelry and bold belt, and she pulls it off as easily as the first. And it’s a good thing too, because with her recent ascent into royalty, we probably should be getting used to seeing Layla covered in gold.

Another Returning Face

WWE sure is shaking up the women’s division of late. Add Milena Roucka to the slate of returning Divas we’ve seen or read about in the last two weeks.

Previously on “Returning Divas”, Alicia Fox, the former SmackDown wedding planner returned but this time to ECW as a glorified Nitro Girl/manager to new talent DJ Gabriel. Last night, Melina made her much-awaited return from injury on Raw. And Gail Kim‘s WWE re-debut is imminent.

Roucka appeared on last night’s Raw as a fan in the front row holding a, “Glamazon in Training” sign. It was reported yesterday that Roucka had been called upon to travel with the main roster. Roucka was part of the 2006 Diva Search (won by Layla) and then signed a developmental deal and is currently with FCW.

To be honest, I’m not 100% sure if this is the start of an angle or if it was a one-time thing. Placing her in the audience is hardly substantial enough to say she’s ‘debuted’, it may just be they put her in the audience for this week only. Why? I couldn’t tell you, WWE’s Creative Team is perplexing. Or could it be that Roucka will eventually join Raw? Some of the tabloid-style news sites are speculating Roucka will play an obsessed fan of Beth Phoenix. Interestingly, Roucka earlier this year appeared on FCW professing her love for Santino – is this a continuation of that storyline? We’ll see.

Mickie & Layla Join the Festivities

0

They’re a little late to the party, but Mickie James and Layla are sporting their Thanksgiving best, joining to the previously released photos from their fellow Divas. Mickie is, of course, a Native American princess – didn’t you see her Halloween costume from 2007? While this is pretty much a rehash of that, she’s added a bizarre set of wings. Unfortunately, it sort of comes off like insect wings more than anything, so I don’t know what she was going for there. Layla went with Pilgrim route, wearing a skimpy two-toned outfit that almost looks more French maid than Pilgrim. Although they look great, both seem to have missed the mark with their looks.

Check out Mickie & Layla’s photos at the end of the gallery.

Don’t Call It a Comeback…

88

She’s backkkkkk! And from the looks of it, she hasn’t missed a beat! Melina made her return to Monday Night Raw just moments ago in a six Diva tag team match, teaming up with Candice and Mickie James to defeat Beth Phoenix, Jillian and Katie Lea.

Melina’s comeback was somewhat marred by a technical difficulty that spoiled her return. When Candice’s music hit, the titantron showed Melina’s entrance package which led to The King revealing that “Melina was meant to be a surprise.”

The A-List Diva’s return will certainly go down as a memorable one, bringing her A-game (no pun intended), showing off some very cool moves. I was utterly impressed. It’s good to have Melina back! What did you think? Sound off in the comments!

It’s Official: TNA Has Lost It (Contains Spoilers)

This post contains spoilers in regards to the November 27th episode of Impact.

TNA’s Knockouts division has been on a downward spiral since losing Gail Kim in August (well actually, one could argue it was heading south during Gail’s final few months there too) but this has to be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Christy Hemme will challenge for the TNA Knockouts Championship at the company’s next pay per view, Final Resolution in December.

After all the jubilation that TNA wasn’t “Barbies playing wrestling dress-up”, they sure followed WWE’s lead in pushing the inexperienced Hemme as a wrestler giving her victories over the likes of the Beautiful People and now she will face Awesome Kong for the title.

It was reported last month that TNA were to push Hemme as their top babyface Knockout, a replacement for the departed Gail Kim – seems as though that rumour is true. What does it say when TNA tries to be alternative and edgy yet pushes Christy over the likes of Roxxi, ODB and others who have yet to have a shot at the title? I think it’s about time TNA paid a little more attention to it’s booking, just because their matches are good (except when Christy’s wrestling), that doesn’t compensate for the lack of story telling and logical booking. TNA has yet to prove with it’s Knockouts division that it can walk and chew gum at the same time.

For those of you that are TNA-inclined, you can see this come about on Thursday’s episode of Impact.

Breaking: Gail Kim & Melina at Raw Tonight!

12

Thanks to reader, Josh for sending along news that Gail Kim and Melina are scheduled to be in the arena at tonight’s Raw tapings in Providence, Rhode Island. One or both are expected to appear on the live broadcast tonight.

EDIT: This news has now been picked up by quite a few sources. Reports also suggest that both Divas were backstage at last night’s Survivor Series pay per view.

The Divas Get Thankful, Cliché As Hell

12

This Thursday is the great American holiday of Thanksgiving, and the Divas are celebrating in the only way they (seemingly) know how – dressing sexily and posing for pictures! Hoorah! Anywho, Candice, Michelle, Jillian, Kelly, Brie Bella, Nikki Bella, Melina, & Victoria, have dressed in their Thankgiving best – which, with their level of creativity, pretty much calls for 3/4s of the girls dressing all Pocahontas-like, sporting suede, feathering, and wielding tomahawks. All of this unimaginative Native American princess imagery probably has Marlon Brando spinning in his grave. To me, it just shows the lack of imagination most of the Divas have – they find the most cliché way to dress up, show some leg and cleavage, and bam! You’ve got yourself a photoshoot. I’ve got to give credit to Victoria and Jillian for mixing it up, with Jillian sporting a silly Pilgrim costume and Victoria going all-out in a turkey costume. At least there’s some creativity out there.

Now, you may think I’m taking this too seriously, what with all my complaining. Perhaps the point for them is just to look hot, but if that’s the case, then we’re selling the Divas waaaay too short. I’d like to think they’re more than pairs of breasts and asses and have a bit of cleverness to go with it. So which, in my opinion, were the best and the worst?

BEST: I’ve got to give it to Victoria for thinking outside the box. She, as always, stole the show. She proves that Diva can be goofy, not take herself too seriously, and still not sacrifice her sexy image.

WORST: Kelly Kelly was one of many, many Pocahontas rejects, but she gets the worst of it. I mean, white fuzziness and pink fringe is about as far from the traditional imagery as you can get. Her poses are as dull as always, but this level of cardboard-cutout effort take it to a whole new level.

Mickie Strives For Perfection

4

They say, “Striving for excellence motivates you; striving for perfection is demoralizing.” If that’s true, then Mickie James is going about it the wrong way in her latest photoshoot, “Perfect in Purple”. Halter tops are rarely flattering on anyone, in my opinion, and the way Mickie wears hers – with keyholes on the sides – doesn’t help matters. I do love those shades of purple and gold though, and her hair and makeup are great, so she’s got that working for her. The same complaints usually come up with Mickie photoshoots, I’ve come to find: she poses well and usually looks fantastic, but her choice in clothing is often unflattering. But hey, if that’s her style, more power to her. It’s just not my idea of “perfection”.

Systematic Breakdown of Survivor Series

9

The phrase ‘match of the year candidate’ has been thrown around in regards to last night’s Divas traditional Survivor Series elimination match. But it’s time for Diva Dirt to weigh in… was the Raw vs SmackDown match really that good? I would say while it was not the most technical match, it was a lot of fun to watch and for that reason I too, would consider this a potential match of the year candidate.

This match has been a dream match for me for a while now, I really wanted to see the Divas get the traditional elimination treatment and finally that became a reality. I didn’t think it would happen, I never thought WWE would give the Divas enough time on the card to have an elimination match but they finally did. And my verdict is that it turned out really well, it was fun, fast-paced and the fans were into it. I would definitely like to see this become a permanent fixture to Survivor Series each and every year. It doesn’t need to be Raw vs SmackDown every year (maybe heels vs faces or team captains picking their Divas), but I definitely think that the risk paid off and WWE should treat this as a guinea pig for future Survivor Series pay per views.

Anyway, the match got a good 10 minutes which is about the most I thought the Divas would get. I feel it could have benefited from more time, as eliminations occured far too often whereas with the men’s matches, they are sporadic. However, given the time they had that was to be expected. The real shocker here is some of the Divas who were eliminated early on: Kelly Kelly was the second Diva to be eliminated and SmackDown’s team captain, Michelle McCool was third. I’m not sure what happened there given their strong, prominent roles on television. Meanwhile Jillian lasts almost the entire match? Okay!

The match started out very strongly, Beth vs Michelle was good stuff, they had great chemistry and were really going at it. Beth then did some good moves with Maria but here’s where things began to go downhill for a moment: Kelly got tagged in. Kelly vs Maria? The next minute or so seemed to plod along as Kelly and Maria stumbled around the ring, sure they’ve improved but pitting them against each other showed just how green they really are. Thankfully, Victoria tagged in and order was restored. The match livened up as Mickie tagged in and here came one of my favourite parts of the match: Michelle and Mickie. They shared a really great chemistry, great athleticism and it really whet my appetite to one day see them go at it one-on-one. The prospect of that match is very appealing to me now.

If you ask me, Candice was the weakest link of either teams last night during her part of the match with Natalya. She looked hesitant and slow in the ring. Natalya got a great reaction from locking in the Sharpshooter, that was fun to see. The MVP of the night has to go to Maryse, her cockiness and arrogance really made this match. From fighting with her own team mate to standing up to Beth Phoenix, Maryse was on fine form and I really hope that come Tuesday night’s SmackDown tapings she’s put back in the forefront of the Divas Championship picture. She really shone in this match. Beth wins to the shock of no one…

I think it’s a real testament to SmackDown that there was interplay between their Divas, even though they lost the match. They managed to play up on storylines such as the hate between Michelle and Maryse as well as the ‘rivalry’ between Michelle and Maria. Meanwhile Raw had no story to tell except shock horror, Beth is the strong, dominant Glamazon. SmackDown are the real winners here, they have come out of this pay per view with fuel to add to storylines come this week’s SmackDown.

I definitely think this was a risk worth taking, it showed that the elimination match for the Divas can work and I hope this is the start of a yearly tradition. The crowd seemed as into the end of this match as they did the men’s matches, which is surely a good sign.
