Raw Redux – September 1, 2008

49

This week on Raw: Candice Michelle made her comeback in six Diva action, scoring the win for her team of Mickie James and Kelly Kelly by pinning Beth Phoenix, whose partners included Katie Lea and Jillian.

Thoughts & Reactions
She’s back and as controversial as ever. No Diva divides fans the way that Candice does and that’s been evident from reading your comments and reviews on Candice’s comeback on Raw last night. As for this blogger, I’m sure you all know Candice wouldn’t exactly make my Christmas card list (if I knew her that is) so I may be biased when I write about her. But hey, that’s what friends blogs are for. Some clever guess work on WWE’s part for having Candice make her miraculous comeback on a taped edition of Raw rather than the live thing, because the editing is causing an uproar among you Diva fans. The match was definitely edited at the end. I guess they knew that it wouldn’t be pretty, either.

Moving away from the wrestling to begin with: I couldn’t help but feel Candice’s comeback was the most contrived piece of television since Jade Goody decided to “redeem herself” by entering the Indian Big Brother house. From the outfit to the bad acting as she went to the top turnbuckle to tears at the end, this wasn’t as much a “comeback” as it was a “blubfest”. We’re supposed to feel sorry for Candice, we’re supposed to root for Candice – but in all honesty, Candice isn’t as likable as WWE would have their fans think. This is evident by the way she divides Internet fans. I can’t help but feel Candice is a contradiction of herself, she tries to come across so profound but then shows up on Raw looking like a dominatrix – one who can’t keep her clothes on, for that matter. If her outfit “defines beauty”, I’d rather be ugly. Then we have the tears after she retreated up the ramp following the match, “Pity me! Pity me!” I hope WWE realises that Candice is not the innocent babyface like Trish or Mickie and trying to have her act like she is will never catch on with the fans, just look at the furore she causes online. PS: I thought Raw was now a PG show?

Anyhoo, onto the match – I really enjoyed the work from our Divas this week. Kelly and Mickie seemed more fired up than usual, Mickie in particular was the most exciting I’ve seen her since her fourth Women’s Championship win – perhaps she’s trying not to be overshadowed by Candice? Kelly continues to improve and she worked well for her short part of the match. Jillian and Mickie shared a great chemistry that I enjoyed thoroughly. As for Katie Lea, I think she works better in a tag team combination than in singles action and that’s odd, if you ask me. Her tag team work was much better than her series of horrible and bland matches with Mickie this past summer. As for our Glamazon, well I certainly didn’t like that they buried Beth straight away against Candice. So much for a “money feud” between these two. They ruined it in a matter of minutes by having them interact at the first instance. I would’ve had Candice pin Jillian or Katie and then have Beth retreat from the ring quickly, avoiding any confrontation between these two – prolonging that eventual match. Obviously, logic isn’t WWE’s strongest suit.

Candice’s in-ring return was a mixed bag, I’ll admit it wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be, but it wasn’t great either. There were a few glimmers of excitement (such as that hair-drop thing she hit on Beth from the corner), but for every glimmer there’s a botched headscissor takedown. It seems to me that Candice has even yet to master the basic forearm, perhaps she should concentrate on getting her punches right before moving into anything too showy? As I’ve said with Kelly Kelly, it doesn’t help when you overcompensate for your lack of experience with flashy moves – try and perfect the basics. The end was definitely edited as one moment, Candice was behind Beth and then miraculously in front of her. Candice has a long way to go and I certainly wouldn’t rank her in-ring skills above the Divas Champion, Michelle McCool. That said, Candice isn’t as bad as some fans will suggest. She’s certainly a step ahead of Maria and former Diva, Ashley. To reiterate, thankfully for her and WWE this week’s show was taped but that won’t be the case next week. Hopefully, we can have a more informed judgement next Tuesday.

Michelle vs. Maryse Announced for Unforgiven

Just as we suspected, WWE.com has announced that Michelle McCool will be defending her Divas Championship against Maryse this Sunday at Unforgiven. This will mark her first title defense thus far:

At Unforgiven, proud Divas Champion Michelle McCool will risk the gold she has tirelessly fought for against the cunning Maryse in a match of toughness and sheer determination to be the top Diva on Friday Nights.

Since making history by overcoming Natalya to become the first-ever Divas Champion at The Great American Bash, Michelle has done everything in her power to bring integrity and class to her reign, while setting the bar high for her challengers. Her considerable ability is only surpassed by the belief she has in herself and what she is capable of inside the squared circle.

Maryse has demonstrated little respect for the champion and even less modesty, noting that the gold would look better around her waist. Tensions have built to a fever pitch as the sultry Diva has aggressively pursued the champion, going so far as to attack her prey at the conclusion of their tag team competition in recent weeks, initiating a knockdown brawl between the two. Maryse insists she is the sexiest of the sexy and desires nothing more than to capture the gold.

At Unforgiven, Michelle will attempt to silence her outspoken challenger once and for all. If Maryse hopes to unseat the All-American Champion, she will need to bring the skills to match her silver tongue.

So what do we think, readers? Are you glad the WWE went with a SmackDown match this time, or were you hoping to see the Raw girls in action?

It’s Always Fun to Meet New People..

If you don’t know who Tiffany is, don’t feel bad – I’m not too familiar with her myself. She’s been largely unnoticeable on ECW, serving as Theodore Long’s assistant. WWE.com has finally decided to let her onto the photoshoot wagon, posting this new one, entitled “Having Fun”. I’m not quite sure I understand the relevance of that title, but nevertheless, I’m afraid she looks pretty generic. It’s not as if the WWE needed anymore blondes, and the fact that this photoshoot’s pretty dull doesn’t help to differentiate her from her fellow bottle blondes. Maybe she’ll bust out soon, but as for now, I’m not too intrigued..

One Year On, Comparing Candice

15

It’s been nearly one year since Candice Michelle went down with an injury, but tonight she makes her return… her mini-comeback at WrestleMania time doesn’t count. Last year, Candice was praised by WWE, the fans and critics alike on her improvements, she was rewarded with the Women’s Championship and at the end of the year won many accolades for “Most Improved Wrestler”. However, in the time since Candice has been away, so many more Divas have broken out into the spotlight and won over fans with their skills. Michelle McCool made Friday nights her stomping grounds and has developed into a fine wrestler and Diva, Kelly Kelly broke out of her ECW shell and has delivered some great matches on SmackDown and Raw. And Candice’s fellow Diva Search alumni, Layla and Maryse have shown they are more than capable in the ring too. Somehow though, I don’t see Michelle, Kelly, Layla or Maryse winning titles like “Most Improved Wrestler of the Year” from Pro Wrestling Illustrated. Here’s why…

A lot has changed since Candice received her mammoth push and eventual Women’s Championship win. Between then and now, WWE has definitely renewed it’s focus on women’s wrestling, with Divas an integral part of not only Raw but SmackDown also. When Candice received her push, this action was limited to Raw and Candice was cut a real break by WWE, giving her the confidence to wrestle on a regular basis and become the Women’s Champion. Now? It’s almost like a rule of thumb that these Divas must be adaquete in the ring. I don’t see all these wrestling news sites and the WWE announcers putting over the aforementioned four Divas as hard as they sold Candice to us last year. And I certainly don’t see all of these Divas being awarded a championship for their efforts, sure one or two will break through to become future Women’s and Divas Champions but not all of them. This time last year, there were not nearly as many opportunities for the Divas as there are now, Candice’s big break was a meet of opportunity and Candice’s own hard work.

But here and now in September 2008, can Candice cut the mustard with the new breed of Diva? The four Divas I’ve mentioned have improved, just like Candice, to less fanfare. I’ll be honest, when Candice got her big push, I wasn’t much of a wrestling fan at the time so I can’t recall many of her matches but I do remember the hype on every site I visited about how she’d improved. Now we’re seeing so many of our Divas getting better and better, no any one individual can receive the same hype as she did. But hype or no hype, one year on, I have my doubts about Candice. I certainly don’t think Candice is as good in the ring as the Divas Champion, Michelle McCool but we all have our own opinions. It’ll be interesting to see and compare Candice to her new counterparts in Michelle, Maryse, Kelly and Layla. Who’ll be better in the ring? We’ll soon find out, as we’ll be able to contrast Candice’s matches to those of Michelle and company’s.

Oh Hey There, Gail Kim!

7

Marketing gaffe or just poor timing? The poster for TNA’s Bound for Glory Pay-Per-View, which doesn’t take place until October, features one Gail Kim, whom we all know has recently made an exit from the company. Obviously, the poster holds no bearing towards her status with TNA, but it’s proof positive that her departure was rather abrupt and unexpected.

Unforgiven: A SmackDown Affair

It seems to me that this Sunday’s Unforgiven pay per view will be going to the ladies of Friday nights. If you read spoilers from both Raw and SmackDown’s tapings last night, it certainly seems SmackDown is the more progressive and “PPV ready” of the two brands at this stage. Raw is in a state of transition, no real feuds or storylines have been mapped out meanwhile SmackDown definitely has a clear cut Divas Championship match between Michelle McCool and Maryse. We’ll see if the announcement is made during SmackDown or on WWE.com this weekend.

You Get Me Closer To Goddddd

10

Yes, I’m referencing a Nine Inch Nails song with pretty much no relevance whatsoever. Sorry Eve, but when the most interesting thing about you is speculation that you may have dated Reggie Bush, then something’s wrong with your career. Case in point, Eve’s new photoshoot, entitled “Come Closer”. It’s pretty dull and uninspiring, and does little else than make me wonder why she keeps getting these photoshoots. Are the WWE too afraid to put her on TV, so they feel they must get a return on the investment they put into the latest Diva Search winner by posting mediocre photoshoots on WWE.com? Seems that way..

SmackDown Spoilers – September 5, 2008

Highlight below for this week’s SmackDown spoilers, the show was taped last night along with Raw:

Maryse and Maria had a backstage altercation over who would get a Divas Championship title shot.

• In what I’m assuming is a No. 1 Contender’s match, Maryse defeated Maria. After the match, Michelle came out and stared down Maryse.

Brie Bella defeated Victoria again. This time, she dominated the match. Again, Brie switched places with Nicole.

Raw Spoilers – September 1, 2008

Perfect 10: Week of August 25th

13

The Perfect 10 returns! The premise is simple: We will rank the ten Divas or Knockouts who we think have had the best week of television, similar to WWE.com’s Power 25. Who will make the grade and who will fall short? It’s all new and exclusive only at Diva Dirt!

WEEK OF AUGUST 25TH – AUGUST 31ST, 2008

10. Beth Phoenix (New Entry)
Kicking off our Perfect 10 is Beth Phoenix suffered a loss at the hands of Kelly Kelly this week, one week after winning the Women’s Championship. As well as faltering in the ring, Beth’s relationship with Santino Marella was on the rocks, with a break-up and make-up on Raw. How very Hills-like!

Erin: It’s embarrassing as hell to lose to Kelly Kelly, even with how far that girl has come in the ring. I don’t care if it was a fluke win, but having the Women’s Champion lose to such an inexperienced girl is pretty crappy. I liked seeing her beat the crap out of Santino, though that little “spat” didn’t last long. I would’ve preferred it if she stayed pissed at him rather than kissing him later in the night, but I guess that’s an “unstable” relationship for ya. At the very least, it keeps her character interesting, which is a problem she’s had since the beginning.
Melanie: I’m fine with Beth losing this match, it’s not as though Kelly totally out-manuvered her for the win. Even Beth Phoenix must taste defeat every now and then.

• • • • • • • •

09. Michelle McCool (New Entry)
The Divas Champion, Michelle McCool makes #9 on the list after suffering a loss to Maryse and Natalya on SmackDown. Despite the loss, Michelle showed a fighting spirit in her post-match brawl with Maryse. This girl’s got game!

Erin: She’s still the #1 girl on SmackDown, that’s for sure. It’s just a question of who she’s feuding with – Maryse or Natalya? At this point, it looks like Maryse, and if that’s the case, I don’t see Michelle relinquishing that top spot any time soon. She’ll be climbing up this list in the weeks to come.
Melanie: Michelle looked great on SmackDown and even though her team lost, I like that we finally had some emphasis on the actual Divas Champion. Since Maria debuted, it seemed like it was all about her but now we’re back to business: the Divas Champion at the forefront of things.

• • • • • • • •

08. Christy Hemme (New Entry)
Our first Knockout on the list is Christy Hemme, her team the Rock ‘n Rave Infection sent a message to the Prince Justice Brotherhood on Impact this week. Christy mixed it up with the boys, slapping Curry Man. Christy and the Rock ‘n Rave Infection will face the Brotherhood at No Surrender.

Erin: It’s always cool to see a girl mix it up with the guys, even if it’s minimal. Maybe Christy will be getting a bigger push in Gail’s absence, eh?
Melanie: I doubt that Christy will see much in-ring time in this match, but she came across really well on Impact this week.

• • • • • • • •

07. ODB (New Entry)
ODB certainly had a fire lit under her on Impact this past Thursday, enough to rank her at #7 in our countdown. ODB went after the unstoppable Awesome Kong in an all out brawl that had to be stopped by officials. As the Joker would say, “What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?”

Erin: That sounds like quite the matchup – monster vs. monster! I think ODB could pose the biggest threat to Awesome Kong that anyone’s ever posed. I’d love to see them in something unsanctioned, like a street fight – now THAT would be a brawl.
Melanie: The brawl between these two was a lot of fun! I think this will be added to the No Surrender match and it should be a good match. These two faced off in February at No Surrender but at that time, ODB wasn’t over as she is now. ODB could come out of this match as the new top face among the Knockouts.

• • • • • • • •

06. Awesome Kong (New Entry)
Though Kong showed signs of weakness in her brawl with ODB, that doesn’t deny her victory over newcomer Sojourner Bolt. Kong was as dominant as ever.

Erin: She’s so unstoppable that it almost gets dull, but that doesn’t take away the fact that she’s the toughest that TNA has to offer. A feud with ODB can probably lend her a little vulnerability and still keep her “monster” persona. I don’t think anyone will ever be able to completely dethrone Awesome Kong, to be honest with you..
Melanie: Kong scored another victory following another vicious match.

• • • • • • • •

05. Natalya (New Entry)
We are now half way through the countdown and at #5 it’s Natalya. Natalya’s team scored the victory in SmackDown’s tag team match. Natalya and partner, Maryse scored the upperhand, once again, over Michelle McCool and Maria.

Erin: I’m disappointed that Natalya is being overshadowed by Maryse, because it seems she had her feud with Michelle stolen right out from under her! She’s still an excellent wrestler and heel, so hopefully there’s still something there for her. I’m praying she doesn’t get the “Victoria treatment”. She’s arguably the best wrestler on SmackDown, as this match demonstrated, so it’d be a shame for her talents to go to waste.
Melanie: Natalya is the best female wrestler on the SmackDown roster, if you ask me. I really want to see her get that Divas Championship shot but it seems she’s been pushed aside for Maryse. That doesn’t deny that she is a force in the ring and great to watch.

Weekend Analysis: TNA Needs Some Cherry Pie!

7

Diva Dirt’s Weekend Analysis is hotter than the Sunday newspapers… free DVDs included! This is the feature we aim to analyse our favourite and not so favourite Divas as well as the current news stories. This week, why TNA needs a slice of Cherry Pie

And no, I don’t mean actual pie. I mean newly released Diva, Cherry – who is now going by the name of Cherry Pie. If TNA had any sense, they would snap up this former Diva as soon as her 90 day no-compete clause is up. After losing Gail Kim two weeks ago, I think Cherry could be a great addition to TNA’s roster, especially as a face. After playing manager to Duece & Domino, Cherry really came into her own during her last few months on SmackDown. In fact, for someone who was barely on the radar and didn’t have the conventional Diva look, she really managed to win over us Diva fans and we really grew to like her by the time of her release last month. So why exactly did WWE release our Cherry? One would assume simply because she didn’t have the cookie cutter “bikini model” look.

Truth is, over her last few months with the company – she really grabbed the attention of the viewers, competing on a regular basis and being one of the founders of SmackDown’s women’s division. She began taking better photoshoots, she showed signs of growth in the ring and really won over fans. WWE’s loss should be TNA’s gain… Cherry would fit in perfectly with the Knockouts, where individuality is seen as a strength and not a flaw. Her unique look was seen as a flaw by WWE but in TNA would be celebrated. While in WWE, she didn’t show the full extent of her talent, we keep hearing how good she was on the independent circuit and therefore, she would also have the skills to be part of the Knockouts division. What Cherry perfected in her short run as a wrestler in the women’s division is something very few Divas are able to do: She was the likable underdog. We really rooted for Cherry during her matches, she came across as the lovable girl next door that you just couldn’t help but want to win. I really see strength in this character and hopefully, if TNA picks up Cherry, they would utilise this gimmick and make Cherry the ultimate underdog.

Please TNA, give Cherry a break. She deserves it!

Exclusive: Mickie Gets Her Psych On

6

As we reported last month, Mickie James will be making a guest appearance on USA Network’s Psych, that episode will air this coming Friday, the 5th of September at 10pm. Anyhoo, check out these episode stills of Mickie for the episode. What do you think, are you feeling her look?

SmackDown Redux – August 29, 2008

This week: Maryse put herself forward as the top heel on SmackDown, as she and Natalya defeated Michelle McCool and Maria. The match ended in a big brawl between the Divas Champ and the French hottie. Meanwhile, Brie Bella made her debut beating Victoria… but there’s more to this story than just that.

Thoughts & Reactions
Okay, this week’s SmackDown Redux may read more like a rant so brace yourselves. As much as I’ve grown to love Maryse, how the hell did we go from Maria vs Maryse and Michelle vs Natalya to Maryse hijacking the Divas Championship title shot from Natalya?! I thought the tag team feud was about furthering Michelle/Natalya and Maryse’s supposed feud with Maria. Instead, we now have set up Maryse as the new title contender for Michelle McCool – and in the process, Maryse is now the top heel on SmackDown? This week’s episode really felt as though they were phasing out Natalya, who has been the biggest heel among the SmackDown Divas and pushing Maryse and this pisses me off. WWE has built up Natalya so strongly and in the course of two hours, they switch their game plan and now this division apparently hinges on Maryse who is a weaker wrestler and a weaker character than the thrid-generation Diva.

This week it seemed as though Natalya was being made to look like the new Victoria, in which case, what does that say about Victoria? Natalya was only on SmackDown to make up the odds for her team and to be the “hired muscle”, make no mistake, this match was all about putting over Maryse. I just don’t get it and after this match, I was left very frustrated and pissed off. Maryse has unfinished business with Maria and now she’s going after Michelle too?! Oh sure, let’s just give her two feuds. I don’t know what Natalya has done to piss off management or creative but after last night’s SmackDown, it seems that the third-generation Diva is on the outs. And I am not happy. The new direction seems to be Maryse as the new top heel. No offence to her, because I do like her work, she has improved so much and I’ve become a fan – but she is no Natalya. Maryse is fine as a secondary heel (sort of like the Melina to Beth Phoenix earlier this year), but I think it’s far too soon to break Maryse out as the top heel especially when you have someone as over and as capable as Natalya. NOT HAPPY.

As for the match, the work was good and I enjoyed both the match and the very impressive scuffle after the match. Michelle really went after Maryse after the match, did you see? I thought she was throwing some real stiff shots, it looked really real and looked so good on screen, so kudos to both Divas. To touch upon the segment that preceded the match, well let’s just say, Maryse spluttered her lines. Understandable for someone who’s first language is not English but if that’s the case, WWE shouldn’t be putting her in a position to cut promos.

As for the Brie-Victoria match, I already talked briefly about this yesterday but it doesn’t hurt to talk some more! Again, Brie was very impressive in her debut match. As I wrote yesterday, it seems that these inexperienced workers tend to try and pull off flashy moves (see Kelly Kelly) to compensate for their lack of knowledge. But Brie didn’t exactly go that route, her moves were pretty basic, she just found a new, innovative spin on them and that made her a lot of fun to watch. Like Melina, she is fun to watch in the ring and I thoroughly enjoyed her first effort. One match in and she is already a far superior worker to some of the girls who’ve been in the WWE and have been wrestling way longer than her such as Maria. I remind you, Brie has only been wrestling for one year down in FCW. We got a brief appearance from Brie’s sister Nicole after Brie went under the ring. You can spot the difference like so: During the match, Brie wore a belt. After “returning” from under the ring, no belt. Two very good matches, however the booking for the second was far better than the first.

Watch: Brie Bella’s Impressive Debut

When models become Divas. Usually we get piss poor matches for the first couple of years but not from this lady. Brie Bella made a very impressive debut on Friday Night SmackDown this week and I thought I’d share it with you now rather than have you wait for the SmackDown Redux! For someone who’s been wrestling for only a year, Brie showed a lot of confidence and flare in the ring. She wasn’t trying to overcompensate for her lack of knowledge with twirly-birds and hurricanranas like one Kelly Kelly, because her moveset wasn’t all that flashy. But Brie’s originality in executing those moves was fun to watch and reminds me of a Diva and former Women’s Champion that all our developmental ladies should aspire to be like – Melina. Check out the match below:

More thoughts to follow in SmackDown Redux.

Beth and Natalya Dream Team!

5

Those lucky effin’ FCW fans! At last night’s taping for the Florida based developmental camp, a lucky few fans got to experience a dream team. Powerhouses Beth Phoenix and Natalya teamed up in the main event to take on new SmackDown arrivals, the Bella Twins.  This I have to see!

And in the main event too? How very futuristic of FCW, doubt it’d translate to WWE though.

YouTube Classics: Gail vs. Trish vs. Lita vs. Victoria

5

Welcome to the YouTube Classics! With the recent-breaking news of Gail Kim‘s sudden TNA departure and imminent return to the WWE, our theme this week will be “Gail Storm”, reminding you of Gail’s most memorable WWE moments during her previous tenure with the company. Today, we have Gail vs. Trish vs. Lita vs. Victoria in a Fatal Four-Way Women’s Title match from Bad Blood 2004. With such big names in the match – Victoria as the Women’s Champion; Lita and Trish at each other’s throats – it seemed as though Gail may be overshadowed, but you can guarantee she’d get her fair share of licks in:

“Rock the Vote” With Candice & Batista

8

Can you hear the “Star-Spangled Banner” playing in the background? We’ve gone political! Following our post on Candice Michelle‘s appearance at the Democratic National Convention, we’ve received an e-mail from the lovely Jackie on behalf of AT&T regarding the Rock the Vote movement. She’s provided us with a few photos featuring Candice and Batista in Denver in front of the Rock the Vote bus, along with some interesting information regarding the Rock the Vote cause and how they, along with AT&T, are reaching out to young and prospective voters leading up to election day this November.

Check out the photos of Candice below, and click here to see all of the photos of the “Rock the Vote” bus. Obviously, for more info regarding Rock the Vote, visit RockTheVote.com.

As you can see, Candice and Batista are in front of what has been dubbed the “Rock the Vote Mobile Election Vehicle”. Wondering what that is? Here’s some more info, courtesy of Jackie:

The RtV Mobile Election Vehicle, launching in partnership with AT&T, will be stationed at Youth HQ right outside the convention center. Vehicle features include:

· A PSA Recording Booth where visitors record their very own PSA/Rock the Vote message to share with friends online or via video text messaging (MMS)

· Two Voter Registration Bays with computer stations where young people can register to vote

· A Mobile Music Bay where concert-goers can download RTV-related content to their mobile device and sign up for an AT&T RTV text message short-code, RTVOTE (788683), to automatically receive voter registration and Election Day reminders, polls, political quizzes, celebrity messages, and mobilization alerts

· A Framerz Bay where guests can use a tethered camera phone to take photos with an RTV celebrity, presidential candidate or political icon

· A Convention Karaoke contest where political pundits and politicians are paired with Rock stars to sing (potentially bad) karaoke to urge young people to get out and vote.

Please please please at least look over the information we’ve provided, and if you are American, get involved! Don’t make me come after you with a steel chair. I swear, I’ll get Jillian Hall to warble a few patriotic tunes for you all.. This election is extremely important, as you obviously know – I don’t have to tell you that. To get more information on this great cause, including how to get involved with this election just by using your cell phone, read more.

Awesome Kong to WWE Too?

14

Wow. Talk about hot news tips! More of you have e-mailed into let us know about this rumour than I’ve eaten Skittles today! According to one report former Knockouts Champion, Awesome Kong could follow Gail Kim by leaving TNA and joining WWE. Apparently, Kong signed a one year contract with TNA that is expected to expire in October and WWE is planning to put in an offer for the monster.

Initially when I read this, I rolled my eyes – and rightfully so. One person that I spoke to says that the chances of Kong winding up in WWE are highly unlikely and I tend to agree. Should Kong’s contract expire, given Gail’s departure, I’m sure TNA would try and keep Kong on their books. Furthermore, last year Kong admitted that she’d received offers from both WWE and TNA and obviously opted for the latter. One must wonder though, since WWE had already offered Kong an opportunity, just what did they have in mind for her? She is definitely a departure from the norm in WWE. Anyhoo, I would expect Kong will continue to terrorise the rest of Knockouts, October and beyond. But it is an interesting prospect, Kong in WWE…

Purple Rain, Purple Rain..

4

WWE.com is on a purple kick, because Katie Lea‘s sporting the color in her new photoshoot, “Purple Reign”. She looks very “American Gladiator” here, posing in her ring gear and having no shortage of intimidating faces. It’s definitely her schtick to do the grimaces and hand poses, but maybe she could lighten up on them a bit, unless she’s going for some Xena Warrior Princess gimmick..

Women’s or Divas Championship Scramble?

Seems as though the theme for this year’s Unforgiven is “scramble matches”, hypothetically, if you had the choice of a Women’s Championship or Divas Championship scramble match, which would you rather see?

From Raw, we have the Women’s Championship scramble match featuring champion Beth Phoenix, Jillian, Katie Lea, Kelly Kelly and Mickie James. Meanwhile from SmackDown, Divas Champion Michelle McCool defending against Maria, Maryse, Natalya and Victoria. Vote below!

Gail Makes That Paper

16

Word has it that Gail Kim has already signed a contract with the WWE. Since news broke last week, I haven’t been able to confirm if she had signed yet or not, until now – apparently she has. Gail has reportedly signed a three-year contract worth an estimated $400-500k a year. That would put Gail on par with Trish Stratus during her tenure with the company.

EDIT: According to one report, TNA’s offer to Gail is said to be less than a $100,000 a year. And that was their top Knockout, sheesh imagine what Rhaka Khan must make…

Candice & Co. Want You to SmackDown Your Vote

Candice Michelle, along with fellow WWE-ers Shelton Benjamin & Josh Mathews appeared Monday at the Democratic National Convention as part of WWE’s long-running “SmackDown Your Vote!” campagin. They posed for photos with the likes of CNN reporter Jessica Yellin, news anchorwoman Katie Couric, and comedian Mo Rocca. The trio will be there until August 31st. Shawn Michaels, Mr. Kennedy, & Mickie James will be attending the Republican National Convention from September 1st through the 4th.

I have to admire the WWE’s political efforts, as they do have a certain audience that – young or old – need to get involved politically. Check out the photos below and if you’re an American and are eligible to vote, do it!! To learn more about WWE’s “SmackDown Your Vote” effort, click here.

Michelle McCool must be taking tips from that Audrina girl from The Hills, because in this photoshot, “Pretty Purple”, it’s quite obvious that she’s going for a more mysterious look by way of looking anywhere *but* at the camera. I can’t say she achieved this, because she looks more bewildered than sly. That Ed Hardy-ripoff of a dress ain’t too great either.. But hey, maybe she was just dressing to match the Diva’s Title. It’s the same icky shade of purple and makes me cringe just as much..

With the recent-breaking news of Gail Kim‘s sudden TNA departure and imminent return to the WWE, our theme this week will be “Gail Storm”, reminding you of Gail’s most memorable WWE moments during her previous tenure with the company. Today, we have Gail vs. Lita from the June 7th, 2004 RAW. By now, Gail was the number one contender to the Women’s Championship and was set to face Victoria for that title. Here she was facing Lita who, with Kane tormenting her, certainly had other things on her mind. These two had a pretty good match, which we all know is rare on RAW due to the time constraints that are often placed on the Divas:
