Over the past number of months, The Bella Twins have been hyping up the idea of returning to the ring. Both women retired in 2019 for different reasons but they have been wanting to have one last run with WWE to capture and hold the Women’s Tag Team Titles. The titles were brought about right before the twins were announcing their retirement.
Nikki Bella‘s last match was against Ronda Rousey in 2018 when she faced off against her for the RAW Women’s Championship at Evolution. Since then she discovered that she was not medically cleared due to her neck injury. Brie Bella retirement was based on her wanting to continue to build her family.
Both Nikki & Brie recently had a child as they went through their pregnancy together in 2020. This was Nikki’s first child and Brie’s second. Nikki has recently commented on wanting to continue to build her family and have a second child but the 37-yo does not want to wait until she is at the age of 40.
They recently spoke on their The Bellas Podcast and had the following to say:
Nikki – “I really want to do a WWE return with Brie and go after the tag titles. That’s one thing I really want to do before I hang up the Nikes for good. I want to do one last run. The desire and passion I used to have, all put into that run. When I went back and had the run with Ronda [Rousey], it was a difficult time with the breakup and being back there so quick.”
Brie – “It was hard for me and I wasn’t much help because I was going through separation anxiety with Birdie and we were so busy. We couldn’t even keep up with time.”
Nikki – “I want to go back and have my last run be everything I want it to be and you want it to be. So that means I get pregnant in 2023? I don’t want to be pregnant at 40. So, I’m having a tough time.”
After they discussed their last run with the company and Nikki wanting to add on to her family, Brie brought up the situation surrounding Nikki’s neck. Aside from adding to her family, can Nikki even physically get back into the ring. At this time she confirms that she cannot.
Brie – “I know you want to do a WWE run before pregnancy. I think everyone wants to know, if this WWE run is going to happen, and in our hearts we want it to happen. We know, in the next year or two it’s going to happen because we’ll make sure, but everyone wants to know about your neck.”
Nikki – “I guess I have been talking about this run as if I’m cleared, which I’m not cleared to wrestle. I saw a doctor last week who is starting to help me with neck strengthening exercises. I’m working on doing everything I can to increase bone growth with bone fusion and helping herniation. Since I haven’t done any hardcore impact since my match with Ronda, hopefully, the herniation that happened above my bone fusion has gotten better. I hope that somehow, all these things that I’m doing, if I want to do this run, I have to get MRIs and scans and they have to discuss things. They will see this incredible growth and say, ‘You’re strong, here are your limits, but this is what you can do.’ I need to start that a year out. We’ll see what a year does, how good the bone grows, how strong my neck can get. Say prayers for me.”
The Bella Twins were scheduled to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2020. Due to the pandemic, the ceremony did not take place. It was announced earlier today that Molly Holly will be inducted this year. The Hall of Fame will stream on either Peacock or WWE Network (depending on your location) on April 6 and will include both classes of 2020 and 2021.
