Tonight’s NXT is a big night for two women in particular. Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez will face Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax for the Women’s Tag Team Championships.
For Gonzalez, this will also be her first televised title opportunity in NXT. As for Kai, this is a full-circle moment. She debuted facing Jax and she had a rivalry with Baszler up until when she was put on the injury list.
This match came about from Kai & Gonzalez winning the first-ever Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament. They went through teams such as The Robert Stone Brand, Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter, and Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon to win and earn this title opportunity.
The Women’s Tag Team Titles have always been able to move on all three major brands of WWE. However, they have only been defended on NXT a couple of times. If Kai & Gonzalez pull of the victory then they will be the first team from the NXT brand to hold the titles.
Along with this exciting match, we also have The Way advertised. They will be attending therapy to see if they can get back on the same page.
Last week we also saw an impressive match from newcomer Zoey Stark as she went toe-to-toe with the NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai. Although she couldn’t muster out a win over Shirai, she looked very promising. Shirai did however get confronted by Toni Storm and the two of them will face for the title next week.
Xia Li has also been dominating since she has had a major gimmick revamp. She took out Kacy Catanzaro last week and then focused her eyes on Catanzaro’s tag team partner Kayden Carter. A match between Li and Carter hasn’t officially been announced but them getting into the ring together is likely.
