NXT officially announced earlier today that the next TakeOver event is now right around the corner. It is going to be on Oct. 4. At the time of this writing, it does state that Io Shirai will be defending her NXT Women’s Title at that event, however, her opponent is unknown. Perhaps after tonight’s match against Shotzi Blackheart there will be a clearer picture.
The advertised match for tonight is Blackheart taking on Shirai in a non-title bout. This was formed from interaction from last week. The two teamed up to attack Aliyah and Robert Stone, but after they took care of business, Blackheart had her eye on the championship. As she picked it up off the mat to hand it to Shirai, Blackheart pulled back which angered the champ.
Mercedes Martinez lost her match against Rhea Ripley in their main event steel cage last week. With the rumor that Martinez is part of RETRIBUTION on RAW, will we continue to see her in NXT? According to Robert Stone, she is no longer part of his brand.
What would be next for Ripley as well if the feud is over with Martinez?
William Regal has also announced that he has two major announcements tonight. There is no word on if either one will involve the women, but if they do then we will update you.
