NXT TakeOver: WarGames may be over but there is a new war on the horizon between NXT and NXT UK. WWE announced that the Worlds Collide event will be replacing NXT TakeOver on, Jan. 25 at the Toyota Center in Houston during Royal Rumble weekend.
The Worlds Collide multi-brand match up concept has been used previously as WWE Network specials at Royal Rumble and WrestleMania Axxess festivals as well as a four-part series. The upcoming NXT vs NXT UK special will be the first time the event has been aired live.
The WWE Network special is advertised to pit champion against champion for “brand supremacy.” No matches have been determined yet but we could potentially see NXT Women’s Champion, Shayna Baszler vs. NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray.
Now that Survivor Series is over and the team comradery is out of the way, Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair will certainly be gunning for Shayna Baszler’s NXT Women’s Championship. Plus Worlds Collide will take place two weeks after NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool II where Kay Lee Ray will face Toni Storm and Piper Niven in a Triple Threat match for the NXT UK Women’s Championship.
