Ahead of tonight’s NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II, we’re taking look back at some memorable moments from the NXT TakeOver series.
Tonight, we’re taking a look back at last year’s NXT TakeOver: Brookyln, where NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks defended her title against Bayley.
Before the NXT Women’s title match took place, the NXT Tag Team titles were on the line as defending champions Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy took on The Vaudevillains. To counter out the Alexa Bliss factor behind Blake and Murphy, The Vaudevillains would introduce NXT fan favorite Blue Pants to stand by their corner. Blue Pants would attack Alexa mid-match and open the door for The Vaudevillains to win the titles.
During the NXT Women’s tile match, Sasha took aim at Bayley’s broken hand, at one point slamming it between the steel steps and the ring apron. They took to the top rope several times, both taking big falls but battling back nonetheless.
In the end, it was the combination of a reverse top rope Frankensteiner and a Bayley-to-Belly that would secure the win for Bayley and crown her the fourth NXT Women’s Champion. Post-match, an emotional Bayley was joined in the ring by her fellow Four Horsewomen, Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Sasha giving her a group hug as the jubilant crowd congratulated the new champ.
