NXT Women’s Division Shines at Takeover: Vengeance Day

Once again NXT put on a spectacular show this past Sunday.  Fans saw the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in addition to some great title defenses that rounded out the show.

The women of NXT stole the show in two matches that were explosive, exhilarating, and of course action fans love and crave.

The first Women’s Dusty Rhodes Classic Tournament had high expectations and all teams delivered.  The finals between the teams of Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart vs. Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez was nothing less than a heart stopper.  The opening bout to Vengeance set the bar high for the night as Kai and Gonzalez emerged victorious and the first winners of the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Classic.

Ember Moon’s return to NXT was undoubtedly a step in the right direction.  A new look to go with her return did her so many favors.  She fits in with NXT so much better and her work this past Sunday reminded fans of the special spark she has inside the squared circle.  Moon and Blackheart work well as a team and have proven themselves to be legit contenders for the Women’s Tag Team Championship in the future.

Kai and Gonzalez are an unstoppable team and winning the Dusty Rhodes Classic shows it.  Gonzalez has shown considerable improvement since the last Mae Young Classic while offering her assistance to Kai.  Kai has embraced her bad side whole heartedly that it’s hard to believe that she was a cute, colorful and spunky girl.

Their win earns them a Women’s Tag Team Championship opportunity.  Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler must get on the same page and do their homework with these girls.

Three of NXT’s best women showed what they could do in the triple threat match for the NXT Women’s Championship.  Nothing less was expected from either competitor, especially Mercedes Martinez.  A tough veteran who is still in her prime, Martinez would be a great NXT Women’s Champion should that be in the cards for her.  Toni Storm still has a bright future ahead of her and is a star no doubt.  Shirai continues to amaze fans with her air awareness and great ring work.

Shirai remained victorious but it is far from over for Storm and Martinez.  There is plenty more to look forward to as each woman continues to contribute to the ever-evolving NXT Women’s Division.

Vic Joseph commented during the Classic finals that the NXT Women’s Division is the best in the world today.  Considering others such as Candice LaRae, the newly signed Taya Valkyrie, Tegan Nox, and Santana Garrett to name a few, the NXT Women’s Division is the one to watch in 2021.

With the stellar performance all the ladies put on at Takeover, the statement rings true and beyond that.  They proved themselves yet again that the best is still to come in WWE Women’s Wrestling.
