As quickly as Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez became the first NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions they are now just as quickly the former champions.
From being presented with the tag titles (as a result of their Dusty Cup win) and marked as the inaugural champions by William Regal earlier in the night, they also had to defend their titles.
Enter the challengers: Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart.
Moon & Blackheart were the hurdles that Kai & Gonzalez had to get over to win the Dusty Cup. Unfortunately for them, this time, they tripped on the hurdles to retain their titles and the gold already has a new home.
Just like their prior encounter in the finals of the Dusty Cup, these two teams laid it all on the line. As the match was heading towards its finish, Gonzalez attempted to put Moon away with the one-arm powerbomb. Moon did everything in her power to not be taken down to the mat as the two ended up tangled in the ropes.
Once free from the ropes and Moon still being held up by Gonzalez, Kai was launched by Blackheart into them. This took out Gonzalez and Moon as they came crashing down over the top rope to the floor at ringside. Blackheart capitalized and rolled Kai up into a bridge and held her down for the count of three.
After the match, Moon & Blackheart were seen being congratulated by the entire women’s locker room as they entered the backstage area. That is besides Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell who were seen booing and giving dirty looks from afar.
This marks the first gold that Blackheart has won in WWE. This is Moon’s second piece of gold as she previously held the NXT Women’s Championship for 139-days. She hasn’t held a title since 2018.
What did you think of what transpired tonight? Do you think that Gonzalez and Kai should have retained? Are you happy that Moon & Blackheart are the new champions moving forward? Leave your thoughts below.
