NXT Women’s Title Match Set For Heatwave

This week’s NXT 2.0 continued to highlight the women’s division more than ever. The show produced two women’s matches but gave several feuds continuing or setting up feuds between many of the roster.

To kick off the show this week, the new number one contender Zoey Stark took to the mic to address her return. She shocked the NXT Universe by returning from injury last week and winning a 20-woman Battle Royal to challenge Mandy Rose for the NXT Women’s Title. It was confirmed this week that this battle will take place in three weeks at NXT Heatwave on Aug. 16.

In the opening segment, it wasn’t just Rose and the rest of the members of Toxic Attraction that targeted Stark but a recently turned heel Cora Jade would as well. However, Rose’s promo she delivered talked about becoming the fourth longest reigning NXT Women’s Champion in history. She boasted about surpassing the reigns of such stars such as Bayley, Charlotte, Raquel, Rhea, and after tomorrow – Paige. The only women to have held the gold longer will have been Io Shirai, Shayna Baszler, and Asuka.

Moments later in the show, Stark took on Gigi Dolin in singles competition. Stark would come out with the win after hitting her finisher. Jade would jump Stark from behind which prompted Roxanne Perez to come out and make the save.

Despite Stark being the next opponent for Rose, Sarray would also step up to the champion backstage. Sarray was originally supposed to be in the Battle Royal last week but was replaced by the returning Stark. Sarray was in the UK and has been seen on NXT UK programming. She wants her opportunity against the champion as well.

The other match on tonight’s show was Indi Hartwell taking on Arianna Grace. Grace would have her first big backstage promo on NXT since signing and she was surrounded by other roster members Sloane Jacobs, Amari Miller and Brooklyn Barlow. Grace spoke about how Hartwell eliminated her from the Battle Royal last week. Hartwell would confront her prior to their match.

The match would take place later in the second hour with Hartwell coming out with the victory. Grace tried to steal her first NXT 2.0 victory with her feet on the middle ropes but was caught by the referee. While arguing with the official, Hartwell hit a big boot to the face of Grace to get the pin.

As mentioned earlier, several storylines are continuing and shaping up. There were three separate promos that aired that had the following feuds involved –

Wendy Choo is having nightmares about Tiffany Stratton which is hinting at a dark side to our favorite nap time friend!

Kiana James does research on Nikkita Lyons and crunching the numbers. The two were in the final four of the Battle Royal last week which had Lyons eliminate James.

Lash Legend and Alba Fyre’s rivalry continues.
