There is officially one match left in the AEW Women’s World Championship Eliminator Tournament. Over the weekend Ryo Mizunami won the final match of the Japan brackets by defeating Yuka Sakazaki. Tonight, Nyla Rose became Mizunami’s opponent after she took out Thunder Rosa in the U.S. Finals. This match will take place this Wednesday, March 3, on Dynamite.
In the final moments of Rose taking on Thunder Rosa, Rosa was certain she had put away the Native Beast with a Death Valley Driver. Rose was able to kick out much to the devastation of Rosa. Rosa follows up by countering with a stunner and then a suplex. Rose kicked out yet again. Nyla ends up catching Rosa from a high-risk maneuver and delivers a Beast Bomb to pick up the win.
The winner of the Rose vs. Mizunami match will go on to face the AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida at Revolution on March 7. Shida is the third women’s champion for the company and just became the longest-reigning champion after passing Nyla Rose’s record.
If Rose goes on to face Shida and wins then she will become the first two-time champion for the company. If Mizunami goes on to face Shida and wins then she becomes one of only four women to have held the AEW Women’s World Title.
The YouTube show tonight had two other women’s matches:
Madi Wrenkowski defeated Leva Bates via pinfall – this marks the first victory for Wrenkowski in AEW.
Leyla Hirsch defeated Miranda Alize via submission
