Jazz Approached By TNA

3

Fuck, we have lost out big time. Turns out that the plum role of “problem solver” to the Beautiful People, which we went to Mickie Knuckles (see her make her debut this Thursday) was originally intended for two time WWE Women’s Champion and one of my favourite Divas, Jazz. Unfortunately, TNA couldn’t reach the multi-talented ECW alumna in time:

A female bodyguard for “The Beautiful People” is set to debut on Impact this Thursday. There was talk of bringing former WWE Women’s Champion Carlene “Jazz” Begnaud in for the role, but they weren’t able to get in touch with her in time for the last Impact taping or she simply wasn’t interested. Instead, the company’s going with an indy women’s wrestler that doesn’t look like your typical ‘Knockout’ or ‘Diva’. Additionally, Vince Russo wanted another pretty girl to join “The Beautiful People,” but Jeff Jarrett nixed the idea feeling that a third one may not get as over as well as Angelina Love and Velvet Sky, thus watering down the act.

I would love to see Jazz in TNA, this girl is just too talented to go to waste. Last year however, Jazz and her husband Rodney Mack caused some controversy when they opinionated that none of the major promotions want to employ them because of their skin colour. I certainly don’t agree. I really wanted a Jazz-Gail Kim feud in WWE, let’s hope TNA and Jazz can come to some agreement in the future. In fact, earlier this year, Jazz topped Diva Dirt‘s list of names TNA should hire.

Beth is G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S

4

Okay, I really, really hate that song, but seeing Beth Phoenix in this photoshoot makes me hate it a little less. She looks amazing, IMO. She utilizes her signature headdress without it look gaudy (as it has before), and the gold and bronze accents work perfectly together. Overall, Beth looks sexier than I’ve ever seen her! Here’s proof that she can work both sides of the Diva spectrum – she’s both kick-ass and has sex appeal. Click the thumbnails below to see the full photos.

YouTube Classics: Matt Hardy/Lita vs. Big Show/Trish

Welcome to the YouTube Classics! I’m a day late and a dollar short, but it’s still here! This week, our theme is “Battle of the Sexes”, intergender matches featuring both men and women competing against one another. Today, we have Matt Hardy & Lita vs. Big Show & Trish Stratus:

RAW Redux – June 02, 2008

13

This week, with a new improved formula! We have photos and a match video after the cut!

This week on RAW: Coming off the heels of One Night Stand, Melina was all eyes on Beth Phoenix in the next chapter of this epic feud. Elsewhere, the women’s division evolved with Mickie James back in the fold and the official women’s division introduction to Katie Lea! Later, Mickie was involved in a backstage rendezvous with John Cena.

Thoughts & Reactions
WWE sent a message loud and clear last night: a new direction for the women’s division, one based on real wrestling. After One Night Stand, I was left speechless. An amazing match from Beth and Melina. There were so many question marks going into last night’s RAW, because for the first time in a long time I had no idea what WWE was going to do next. Where can this go next? Will the feud continue? Will Beth just simply go back into the title hunt? The predictable booking just wasn’t there, it was honestly a guessing game. I was so eager to watch RAW and found out what would happen next and I can tell you this: I was not disappointed. They didn’t just drop Melina and revert back to Beth-Mickie, as I had an inkling they would, instead they followed through logically and actually set up another dimension to this feud that could be exciting to see develop over the next few weeks and that is the set-up of Melina being so embroiled by Beth Phoenix. And I’m going to admit it… I popped so hard when Katie’s music hit. Note to self: Never eat breakfast while watching RAW.

Needless to say, I thought last night’s Diva action was the perfect follow-through from the amazing night before. I had worried that I’d be left underwhelmed after a stellar “I Quit” match, but if anything I was overwhelmed because I was not expecting Katie Lea to be added to the mix… what a fabulous addition! Although, I feel a little bad for Jillian, it says a lot when they bring in a Diva who has never been involved in the women’s division before to wrestle this match and not her. Will Jillian find herself back on SmackDown! during the Draft? I can see it happening. Last night during RAW, I saw the future of the women’s division in the ring. These four Divas, I hope in future will have great matches and great feuds with each other and we got a little glimpse of that on RAW.

The match itself was pretty good, if a little short, I would have liked to see the girls get a few minutes longer. Melina was just on-point, character-wise, so much intensity – Melina is a fantastic actress. The spot with Melina and Beth was so well done and you could hear the crowd reaction, they went absolutely nuts! I must point out, that for the first time in history, the King was actually making useful comments to enhance the plot and storyline rather than just talking about how hot they are. He mentioned during the “rush” between Beth and Melina that no Diva has made Beth retreat before. Could he be under orders from WWE to actually focus on the in-ring action? I think it really showed that WWE is taking the division more seriously. I would have loved to see more offense from Katie, but I’ll take this for now; for a moment there it looked like Mickie would get the win over Katie and I was about to hurl something at the TV. You don’t introduce Katie Lea to the division and have her job in her first match, if they wanted to do that they should have used Jillian. But in the end, I was really pleased that Katie got the cover, it has her come off strong in her first match. Of course, she got some help from the Glamazon but they are the heels so I wouldn’t have Katie pin the Women’s Champion cleanly unless it’s a title match.

I have been harsh on Mickie and Cena’s backstage segments (i.e. One Night Stand), but I am pleased to say I enjoyed last night’s segment! The acting from Mickie was miles better than the night before or from her past segments on RAW. She came across funny and kooky, kind of like Cameron Diaz, I did lol when she saw the knickers! This segment was a lot funnier than the one at One Night Stand and actually enjoyable. The comments from Cena felt kinda shoot-ish, maybe the word spread backstage that news of their relationship has broken on the Internet?

In all, there was a lot of plot development last night on RAW, I cannot wait till next week to see what happens next. See, you don’t need bikini contests to draw in viewers; this feud between Melina and Beth has been fantastic and so unpredictable and that makes people want to watch the product; I honestly don’t know what they’ll do next with Melina’s whole cataotonic state of mind – which is why I want to tune in. Storylines like this can draw viewers into RAW, Vince, you don’t need $1m to do that.

Damn, That’s A Lot of Denim

1

Victoria has a new WWE.com photoshoot, sporting a lovely Canadian tuxedo, and the creative geniuses at WWE.com have struck gold again with the title “Deadly Denim”. I sure hope it doesn’t poison her or something.. I’m not a big fan of the denim-on-denim combo, especially with the super-short jacket. IMO, Victoria should stick to the black, spider-themed ensembles – at least with them she won’t look like a wannabe country music singer.. Click the thumbnails below to view the full photos!

Torrie: Under the Surgeon’s Knife

4

It seems Trish Stratus isn’t the only one having work done! Torrie Wilson updated her MySpace some hours ago to say that she is having surgery on her back today. Torrie asks that we keep her in our thoughts and prayers. Read Torrie’s blog below:

Hey my friends!

Well, I just wanted to let you in on everything that’s happening! I am going in for back surgery today and I am so very nervous. I know that I am in great hands as far as all my Dr.’s and all but it’s still scary if you really think about it….I have to say that I absolutely cannot wait to feel better though and I am so damn tired of feeling crickety and fragile and not being able to be as active as I want. They are doing a new kind of surgery where they go in through your side and use a scope to take out one of my discs and replace it with something synthetic. My Dr. says that within 6 weeks I will be able to run some (which is my loooove!) and that I will be walking around tomorrow but please please please say a prayer for me today that everything will go smoothly! If all goes well, my reward will be a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico in 10 days so I can’t wait for that! I will let you know how it all goes in the next couple of days. Love you all!

Good luck, Torrie! It was reported yesterday that Torrie may be appearing at a RAW house show on June 14th in Boise, Idaho. Looks like things are looking on the up for my favourite Diva!

Systematic Breakdown of One Night Stand

7

It’s only been two weeks since I wrote my last “Systematic Breakdown of…”, but here we are again. Another pay per view in the history books – and actually, the word “history” is very fitting here – because last night at the 2008 edition of One Night Stand, history was made for the WWE Divas when Beth Phoenix and Melina did battle in what I am sure in future, will be an iconic “I Quit” match.

This month we are introducing new elements to the Breakdown, after the cut we have pictures too!

Thoughts & Reactions
For those of us who watched the match live last night, I know I certainly felt like I was watching history being made because from from start to finish, this was a fantastic, competetive match. Both Divas deserve a standing applause, because they worked their butts off at One Night Stand and delivered a match that for me, stole the show. I wrote in our Prediction Post yesterday that this could go one of two ways; it could be a filler match or it could be a defining match for the women’s division and thankfully it was the latter. WWE really invested time into this match allowing it to be the best it could be and I’m grateful, I loved watching this match, it showcased the ability of the Divas. Sure, they’re sexy but it’s not all about sex… these two Divas proved that they can wrestle, that if given the time and emotional investment into storylines, that the WWE Divas brand can be so much more than Diva Search girls, bikini contests etc.

I fully expected the Beth win and I think it was the right call to make, as much as I love Melina, there’s no way you could have the Glamazon quit without making her look weak. Yes, Melina quit but she still came across strong – just look at what it took for Beth to finally put Melina away. She really hung on in there and that’s something I hope WWE pushes on RAW tonight. Furthermore, they should really push that Melina took Beth further than any Diva before her could, really made Beth work for her victory and didn’t make it easy for her. Candice and Mickie, sure they had good matches with Beth, but those matches in my eyes are weak compared to this one. They really need to sell that this match with Melina really took it’s toll on the Glamazon because Melina certainly deserves the kudos and after her amazing work over the past few weeks, really does deserve to remain in the limelight.

Overall, the in-ring work and the story told in this match was fantastic and the girls deserve a lot of respect for the way they mapped out this match and were able to tell a story. They got a lot more time than the Divas usually do, 10-12 minutes and planned every bit of it so it was must-watch television. Even though we all knew Beth would win in the end, they really worked hard to give Melina an upper-hand in parts of the match, have her come across as though she just might beat Beth and that added to the excitement of the match-up.

The finish was just fantastic and a sight to be seen, the image above is just wow… I mean, if you thought Beth piling up Melina and Mickie at Judgment Day was a sight, then this was it’s equal. What a fantastic finish to the match, it really showed that Beth needed to pull out all the stops to get Melina to say “I quit”, and this move with Melina’s body so contorted her head touching her feet – it was just sick! This finish showed the physicality and the intensity of both these Divas, I don’t think there could be any other move to end this match that would do it justice; they really went that extra mile with the finish with Melina being forced to quit due to the severity of this move.

After a 5-star match, what does WWE do? Taint it! Ain’t that always the way… Instead of appreciating this defining Divas match, we cut to John Cena talking about two girls doing submission holds is hot. Let’s throw out the window the fact that this match was so physical, so intense just like the men’s matches. No instead, let’s make sexual innuendos. The whole Cena-Adamle-Mickie thing was stupid and pathetic. I don’t think WWE even knows where they’re going with Cena-Mickie, they just want to get her on TV in some fashion. She still can’t act, though.

Mickie & Cena: Just Another Love Story

14

Hmm, so many of us were thrown off by the sudden pairing of Mickie James and John Cena. Where did this come from? Why?! What sins have we commited to be punished so?! Oh… okay… one too far… Well, we have the scoop (actually Mike Johnson at PWInsider.com has the scoop)… Mickie and Cena are doing the dirty in real life.

And of course, Vince McMahon being the pervy voyeur that he is – when he couldn’t get a ringside seat to their personal, bedroom antics – made the call himself to have the duo play luvahs on screen too. All those comments about them being an odd couple on screen, imagine what they’re like in real life?!

I don’t know where on earth their love story is going, storyline wise, but I sure hope their personal life isn’t as dull and badly acted. Being the giving person that I am, here’s a little song dedication to our newest couple:

Trish Stratus: Au Naturale

5

Rumour has it that legendary 7-time Women’s Champion, Trish Stratus has had her breast implants removed! That is the word from Power Slam magazine, which is based in the UK. The Diva was always known for her fabulously busty boobs, but it seems that after two years out of the wrestling industry, Trish is no longer interested in looking fake.

Now that Trish has left the WWE, I guess she feels time to strip away the “Diva” look and start being simply Trish. I applaud her, with or without her ample assets, she is gorgeous and her implants do not define who she is and they don’t detract from her list of endless accomplishments in the WWE.

Hopefully this will help Trish get more work in the entertainment industry too, where implants are for slutty girls without talent, which Trish has in abundance.

Michelle McCool RAW Bound, Bank On It!

9

If there were a “Page Six” in WWE Magazine, the frivolous relationship between Michelle McCool and The Undertaker would be the WWE equivalent of Brad & Angelina. Michelle’s big push, uncoincidentally, came at a time when word spread that she was dating ‘Taker. Not to detract from her talent, because I do think she has really come into her own over the past 6 months on SmackDown! but the fact is, if it were not for her personal choices, she wouldn’t have received that initial push by WWE and go onto SmackDown!’s top Diva. I do think she has worked hard, it’s a mixture of both WWE pushing her and her taking that ball and running with it.

There has been a lot of fan speculation that Michelle will and should move to RAW, during the WWE Draft on June 23rd and after last night’s One Night Stand… I can just about see it happening. I, for one, was dead certain that Michelle wouldn’t move, she would stay on SmackDown! to be with ‘Taker, who is such an integral part of the brand. But last night’s pay per view changed my opinion and I am pretty adamant that Michelle will, in fact, move to RAW on June 23rd.

Michelle wasn’t on the broadcast – but her luvah – Mr ‘Taker, was. Last night at One Night Stand, the Undertaker’s career “ended” when he was defeated by Edge in a TLC match. Of course, this is WWE and it doesn’t actually mean he’s leaving WWE… I fully expect him to pop up on RAW in the near future, probably during the Draft. And where ‘Taker goes, so shall Michelle. What do you think of this development? Michelle to RAW – yay or nay?

Congratulations Beth & Melina

3

Diva Dirt would like to congratulate Beth Phoenix and Melina on their showstopping match-up last night at One Night Stand. These girls deserve a massive round of applause for setting a new bar for the WWE women’s division. This match is easily the best match of the year for the Divas, I don’t know if any other match this year could top this one, though I would love to see WWE try!

We will have our full pay per view analysis of One Night Stand a little later today!

Diva Dirt’s Big Announcement Postponed

0

For the last 15 days we’ve been counting down and hyping a big, huge announcement to be made today. Unfortunately, due to a long, hard weekend of work, personal stuff, blogging and watching the Sex and the City movie (fantastic by the way!), we’re a little behind schedule!

However, please do check back tomorrow for our gigantic announcement! You won’t be disappointed… well actually you will be if you’re expecting a $1m giveaway ha! Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow!!!

Stacy’s Desperate Bid For Fame

5

Former WWE Diva, Stacy Keibler has just explained what the “D” in D-List (aka her level of fame) stands for: desperate. Get this… the Keib actually asked for a scene in an upcoming movie, where she got to flash her mosquito bites breasts. Report below:

Spies on Scott Caan’s upcoming film, “Mercy” tell us Stacy Keibler lobbied hard for a scene in which she would expose her breasts.

Then the unthinkable happened! Director Patrick Hoelck nixed the idea!

People on the production team were stunned, lobbying Hoelck for a change of heart. And finally, Hoelck saw two really good reasons why he should change his mind.

Keibler now realizing her rack’s worth said no way and declined the role completely.

The role has since been given to a no-named actress. Her name? Not Stacy Keibler.

It seems Stacy isn’t content being a D-Lister anymore and is attempting to punch above her weight; sorry sweety the C-List and above are for people who actually offer something to the entertainment industry. Aside from turning up at parties and the odd guest appearance on some of ABC’s lowest rated shows (which then get axed that very season), Stacy hasn’t been up to much since Dancing With the Stars. What will S think of next? Flashing her privates upon exiting a car? That’s never been done before…

Prediction Post: One Night Stand

2

Which Diva will wake up tomorrow on the better end of tonight’s One Night Stand? Beth Phoenix or Melina? Diva Dirt bloggers, Erin and Melanie look at tonight’s pay per view in our new monthly prediction posts! Each month, we will look at the featured Divas contest and break it down: What we would like to see happen, what we think will happen and the aftermath of the match in the future. This month, we look at the “I Quit” match between Beth and Melina:

What We Want To See Happen
Erin: Personally, I’d love for Melina to win. That’s probably obvious, as I’m a big Melina fan, but I also think that she needs to win this match to solidify her toughness – she’s played “jobber” for a few months now – and Beth is clearly fine in that department. If she were to lose this match, it could possibly demote her back to the “lower tier” status and prevent her from posing a serious threat as a contnder to the title, and I really believe she deserves better than that. If she wins, it doesn’t necessarily squash Beth – she can win in a crafty way that doesn’t make Beth weak. In my mind, it’s simple – the best feud opportunity right now could be Mickie, Melina, and Beth feuding over the title. If Melina is defeated easily by Beth tonight, that opportunity could be squashed, along with Melina. To keep her in the game and up on Mickie and Beth’s competitive level, I feel that she needs that big win tonight. Especially, if she’s turning face or tweener or whatever, it’s essential to not make her look weak now that she’s making a significant character change. Those two paired together could be enough to make her forgettable to many fans, I’d say. It’s been done before, and it can happen again – I just hope it won’t.

Melanie: To be honest, I’m not really too fussed about the outcome here. What I really want to see happen is that this be a fun, exciting and meaningful match-up. I think this could go either way: It could either be just another filler Diva match between two big match-ups or it could really be the defining Diva match of the year. It could really mean something for the future of the women’s division. For that to happen, it will need time – more than five minutes, which is the going rate for the Divas these days. This match shouldn’t just be part of the undercard, it should really have depth to it. I have no doubt that both these Divas will work incredibly hard, but if WWE doesn’t meet them half way by giving them time to execute this match properly it could turn out really bad. I think many fans are sceptical of that. I’d like a really physical match-up, with both Divas being made to look strong. I’d love for Melina to come across as not backing down, despite taking a pummelling from Beth. I do think Beth should win here, since there’s no way she can quit without ruining her character. But I want a good match more than anything else.

Torrie’s One Night Stand

3

Fitting that tonight’s pay per view goes by the name of One Night Stand, because I guess that’s how you could describe former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson‘s return to the WWE – just one month after she was released. Torrie is scheduled to appear at a house show on June 14th at the Taco Bell Arena in her hometown of Boise, Idaho.

Now, these schedules are put together months in advance which is why they are always “subject to change.” This simply could have been put together while Torrie was on SmackDown!, to have her do a show for RAW.

But if it’s a more recent occurence, hopefully that will put the naysayers to rest. I, myself, confirmed last month that Torrie asked for her release and wasn’t cut by WWE. I wonder if perhaps WWE and Torrie came to terms to have her a do a little swan song in her hometown? Sure it isn’t on a grander scale like Trish had on pay per view, but it’s a nice, classy move if you ask me. Torrie will definitely draw a crowd in her hometown!

Style Showdown: “Extremely” Fashionable

Welcome to Style Showdown, a new feature to cure weekends of slow news! In Style Showdown, we take two Diva rivals from the past or present and put them in a battle of a different kind – in a battle of “Who looks better!”

Previously on Style Showdown: The Judgment Day Divas, Beth Phoenix, Melina and Mickie James battled in a three-way showdown to see who you thought was the most stylish! 124 votes were cast and the result was a tie! Both Melina and Mickie gained 55 votes a piece while poor Beth squandered with 14.

This week: It seems that these two Divas have been doing battle since the turn of the century. The never ending feud between Kelly Kelly and Layla spills over onto Style Showdown this week. Which of these extreme Divas has the most high fashion look? Vote below!

Maria Vyes For Emmy

1

Calm down! Not her own Emmy, I mean come on Sally Field, she ain’t… WWE is angling for their first ever Emmy award nomination by holding a screening of the 2007 “Tribute to the Troops” for a select audience of critics and voters. The event was hosted by Maria as well as JBL and Rey Mysterio.

I have to say, Maria looked positively glowing. Very elegant and sexy! Except for that one picture where she reverts to her “fish” pout. Other than that, she looks gorgeous. What do you think?

Best Damn Diva: Michelle McCool

4

Michelle McCool‘s rise to prominence within WWE continues, as WWE takes a leap and shows faith in the SmackDown! Diva by having her represent WWE on an episode of The Best Damn Sports Show Period next week, alongside WWE Superstar John Cena. This is a big leap for Michelle, as she follows in the footsteps of Trish Stratus, Torrie Wilson and Candice Michelle to name but a few in doing promotional work for WWE. Turning up to SmackDown! tapings and pay per views is one aspect of being a top WWE star, but television interviews etc. are another – these spots are usually reserved for WWE’s top Superstars and Divas.

Teaming Michelle up with WWE’s top media spokesman, Cena shows that WWE is pushing for Michelle. It’ll be interesting to see how she handles this side of the business. And hate to state the obvious, but there is also a boundary with her thick accent. Hopefully she’s had some elouction lessons! Will Michelle be able to pull it off?

YouTube Classics: Torrie vs. Candice in a Paddle on a Pole Match

Welcome to the YouTube Classics! This week, our theme is “T&A”, matches with a decidedly T&A theme. Today, we have Torrie Wilson vs. Candice Michelle in a “Schoolgirl Paddle on a Pole” match:

SmackDown!: Michelle vs Maryse

This week’s SmackDown! saw the return of Michelle McCool (while Natalya remains ominously missing), as she takes on Maryse in the featured Divas contest. There is a weird “cut” in the match, about half way through the video, the video cuts a part of the match. I really hope that’s not WWE’s editing, because it’s highly unprofessional! Other than that, check out the match below:

Again, another decent match from the Divas of the blue brand. Maryse worked better in the ring than she has in recent weeks (overselling anyone?) with Cherry. The end is a little sloppy with Maryse tapping out straight away, but there was nothing too bad about this match. There wasn’t any obvious botching, while there was some sloppiness in the MelinaJillian match on RAW. However, I must call out WWE, I am not pleased that they have overshadowed the Natalya-Michelle feud with Cherry and Maryse. There is room for both, but if I had to choose between the two, it’s all about Natalya-Michelle. I hope Natalya returns to SmackDown! next week. Or are they blowing off this feud and acting like it never happened because of the WWE Draft? Michelle has gained a lot of traction over the past 6-8 months and many fans (and possibly, those within WWE) would probably love to see her on RAW. But there is still 4 weeks till the Draft, they could easily – and conclusively – end the storyline between Michelle and Natalya before then.

Gail Addresses Weekend Crazies

1

First ever TNA Knockout Champion, Gail Kim addressed the rumours that made rounds last weekend that she was returning to WWE. The rumours, of course, were made up by what I like to call the “weekend crazies”, a group of people who have too much time on their hands by the week’s end and so type up fake news stories. Anyway, Gail – gracefully as ever I might add – had the following to say:

orry its been soooo long since my last blog…ive never been as busy as i have been this year. I guess thats a good thing! Im always trying to keep up to date but its really hard when you are on the road constantly. So recently i received numerous emails regarding some rumors on the internet. Some people thought it would be a good idea to clear up the situation and thought it was blog worthy. This was of course the topic of me leaving TNA and returning to the WWE. By now, if you do keep up to date with wrestling news… you will know that the rumor was already cleared up and the news was completely inaccurate. I guess it was credited to a credible wrestling writer so people did believe it. I know I always sound like a broken record, but I have repeatedly told everyone not to believe everything they read. I understand its hard not to but I can honestly say that half the things written about me are never true and if they are, they always have inaccurate facts. so please remember to take everything with a grain of salt. I guess its just part of being in the public eye so I have to accept these things! Just so everyone knows, Im almost never home in the next 2 months so if i seem like im slacking, its just that im insanely busy. Love you guys!!! oh, and look out for a new special item that will be listed in the very near future in my ebay store!!!! xoxoxox0

I’ve always admired Gail for her way with words. If you’ll indulge me in a comparison with WWE’s Ashley, who addresses rumours brashfully in her blogs; meanwhile Gail is always dignified. Even though she’s no longer with WWE, she doesn’t bash them at every turn and corner. Gail is a consummate professional and I really admire her work ethic. If only other celebs had her eloquence! (What was up with Usher on TRL this week?!)
