Zelina Vega & Rey Mysterio Win Main Event Heading Into Backlash

Zelina Vega has some huge bragging rights heading into her SmackDown Women’s Championship match on Saturday. Along with Rey Mysterio she defeated her upcoming opponent Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio in the main event of SmackDown. Can she carry that momentum into Backlash and score an upset over Ripley to become champion?

Vega and Ripley showed great chemistry during this mixed tag team match giving us a preview of what we will see this weekend. In the end it came down to the men as Rey pinned Dom with an inside cradle.

Also on this week’s SmackDown, Bianca Belair showed up to her new home. The Raw Women’s Champion explained that when she defeats IYO SKY at Backlash she will become the longest reigning women’s champion of the modern era as she surpasses Becky Lynch. This prompted Damage CTRL to emerge.

Bayley would state that Belair is where she is at now because of her. She also considered Belair quite selfish to be focusing on herself so much.

To no surprise the interaction led to a 3-on-1 attack to where the tag champs Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez made their way out for the save.

We also saw Michin lay out Valhalla during the Good Brothers vs. Viking Raiders match. Nothing will continue from this as Valhalla will be moving to Raw.

Check back in with Diva Dirt to chat about Backlash live.

Trinity Officially Debuts On IMPACT, Puts Purrazzo And Grace On Notice

Trinity has arrived!

After nearly a week (maybe even a year?) of anticipation, Trinity’s IMPACT debut aired in the closing segment of the May 4 episode. She received a warm welcome from Chicago and thanked them in return as she was brought to tears by “welcome back” chants.

Trinity praised the Knockouts division and made it clear she’s coming for the Knockouts World title. This prompted Deonna Purrazzo to come out as she reflected on being in Trinity’s shoes before. However, Purrazzo warned her it won’t be as easy as we are in a new age of The Virtuosa.

It wasn’t long before Jordynne Grace came out to remind both of them that she intends on taking back the title at Under Siege later this month. Regardless of the winner, Trinity has her eyes on them.

Elsewhere on the show, Jody Threat was able to beat Alisha Edwards in a fairly quick match as she continues racking up wins.

Rosemary returned to the Undead Realm with Father James Mitchell. Before she left, she gave Jessicka an hour glass to countdown to her return.

The Coven had a vignette, which set up next week’s big title match as they will put their Knockouts World Tag Team Championship on the line against Purrazzo and Grace. We also know that next week’s show will feature the anticipated singles bout between Masha Slamovich and Killer Kelly.

What did you think of this week’s IMPACT? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Skye Blue Challenges Athena For The ROH Women’s Title

Skye Blue is stepping up and she wants to take the gold away from Athena. Athena has been ROH Women’s World Champion for 145 days and counting.

On the May 4 episode of ROH, Athena defeated Angelica Risk in a proving ground match. Later in the night, Blue called out Athena to challenge her. Tired of being made fun of and being disrespected by the champ, Blue wants a title match. Later in the night Athena would agree to it despite still laughing at her.

The match will take place next week.

Blue was in action herself this week as she defeated Robyn Renegade. Willow Nightingale also defeated Steph De Lander.

Hikaru Shida Returns, Attacks The Outcasts On AEW Dynamite

In the second match of this week’s AEW Dynamite, Willow Nightingale took on Saraya for the first time ever.

Willow worked around The Outcasts at ringside for the first few minutes and was able to land a big missile dropkick on Saraya. But before the break, Storm provided the distraction to allow Saraya to take over.

After the break, Willow hit a big spinebuster and pounced Soho into the ropes. Willow then booted Storm off the apron on another side, but then ran into Saraya’s Rampaige finisher to end the match.

Naturally, The Outcasts continued beating Willow down after the bell until Hikaru Shida returned for the first time since December and initially hugged The Outcasts. It was just a swerve, though, as Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter then snuck in from behind, allowing Shida to spray Saraya in the face with the green spray paint. The trio got the upperhand over The Outcasts to end the segment.

Elsewhere in the show, Baker slapped Chris Jericho in the parking lot after he brawled with Adam Cole.

Additionally, TBS Champion Jade Cargill is set to be in action on Friday’s Rampage.

Trinity Talks Why She Left WWE And Her Choice To Sign With IMPACT

Trinity (formerly Naomi in WWE) has been a hot topic as soon as news broke that she has signed with IMPACT Wrestling. Her official debut will be this Thursday on May 4 and her in-ring debut will take place next week.

Trinity spoke on the Busted Open Radio broadcast and opened up about leaving WWE and why she chose IMPACT.

“I chose and want to be at IMPACT. The doors are open for me everywhere, literally everywhere, but I truly feel like IMPACT is the best choice for me at this point in my life right now with what I want to do, and to just be able to work with the talent there. I feel that is where I’ll be happiest and most utilized and really get to grow in the ways that I feel that I need to right now on this wrestling journey. Had all of the stuff never happened, there is no way I would have taken that leap. The situation kind of forced me to figure it out. That’s what I meant when I say everything was a blessing in disguise. I was going through a lot, and felt very stagnant, and I wasn’t happy.

Ultimately, I left that day because of the way I was talked to and handled. Everything kind of broke me that day. It had nothing to do with anything else or anybody else. That was just it. I had to. To go through the backlash and negativity and the lies and the rumors and also feel lost, it really broke me. It was probably the lowest I’ve ever felt in my life. Going through that, it made me reset and face it head on and figure out how to learn from this experience, grow from it, and find myself again in all of it. I’m extremely happy now and really thankful for this opportunity to show that you haven’t seen me at my best yet,” she said. (Fightful)

Trinity will make a demand to become the Knockouts World Champion and her in-ring debut will be against KiLynn King (one-half of the Knockouts Tag Team Champions).

Mickie James asks Trinity what her goals are in IMPACT.

“Girl, you know. The Knockouts World Championship. And I’m willing to work my way from the bottom all the way to the top, however long it takes. I’m ready for that journey.”

What are your thoughts on Trinity joining the Knockouts? Discuss below.

Sonya Deville’s Stalker Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison

The man who stalked and attempted to kidnap Sonya Deville in 2020 has been convicted. Phillip Thomas II pled guilty on all four accounts and has been sentenced to 15 years in prison followed by 15 years of probation.

Back in August 2020, Thomas was arrested and charged with Aggravated Stalking, Armed Burglary of a Dwelling, Attempted Armed Kidnapping, and Criminal Mischief.

Tampa authorities alleged that Thomas had been planning to kidnap WWE star Sonya Deville for months and drove from South Carolina to Florida to do so.

He entered the home around 2:43 AM on August 16 after Deville went to bed, triggering an alarm by entering through a glass sliding door.  Deville saw Thomas and fled the home with then-WWE performer Mandy Rose, who was staying at her home, calling 911.

When authorities arrived, Thomas was still in the home and was found “carrying a knife, plastic zip ties, duct tape, mace and other items and told deputies he was planning to take the homeowner hostage.”  Thomas’ social media featured many references to her as well as responses to Deville and others who wrote about her.

Deville testified that Thomas sent threatening messages about her, her ex-girlfriend, her mother, her father, her sisters, her niece and Mandy Rose.

Indi Hartwell Vacates NXT Women’s Title, Tournament Starts Next Week

Indi Hartwell us heading to Raw based off of her call up during the draft. She also has an ankle injury after her match last week.

In the final moments of the May 2 episode of NXT, Hartwell confirmed that there will be a tournament starting next week to crown a new champ. The tournament finals will conclude and a new champion will emerge at NXT Battleground on May 28.

After Hartwell gave her farewell to the NXT crowd, Dexter Lumis emerged from under the ring to help carry her back as InDex is fully reunited on the same brand. Hartwell left the title belt in the ring.

After Hartwell and Lumis went to the back, Tiffany Stratton emerged to grab the belt followed by Cora Jade. The two fight over it as Lyra Valkyria appears and the women’s locker room empties out as all the talent brawled in the ring to end this week’s episode.

“Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened.”

The Unholy Union Retain NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles, Bringing The Gold To SmackDown

The Unholy Union of Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn are still your NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. For the first time in history thanks to the draft we saw a team from Raw (Kayden Carter & Katana Chance) challenge a team from SmackDown (Fyre & Dawn) for the NXT Women’s Tag Team belts.

With both champions and challengers drafted to new brands, Fyre and Dawn stated if they were to retain they will defend on all three brands. As a result of their win they will take the gold with them to the blue brand.

As for the match it was the main event prior to Indi Hartwell’s exit speech. The final moments had Fyre and Dawn hit a Gory Bomb/Flatliner combo on Chance. Fyre took out Carter on the outside with a suicide dive as Dawn pinned Chance to retain the gold.

Other results of the night included Jacy Jayne defeating Gigi Dolin and the debut of Dani Palmer defeating Tatum Paxley.

For the Jayne vs. Dolin match, Dolin’s brother was front row. The match did wind up rather short with Jayne getting busted open but still was able to get the pin.

As for Palmer’s NXT debut she had a solid match with Paxley. Palmer has had matches on Level Up and live events and has formed a close bond with Sol Ruca. Palmer got the pin off of a frog splash.

Josh Briggs and Fallon Henley welcomed Brooks Jensen back in the fold after Kiana James dumped him.

Lastly, we will soon be finding out who the attacker is to the NXT women’s locker room. This dates back to the attack on Nikkita Lyons, then Wendy Choo, and most recently Sol Ruca. Who do you think it will be?

NXT Discussion Post: 05.02.23

A lot is set for tonight’s NXT including the fall out from the WWE Draft. Six women have been called up including the NXT Women’s Champion Indi Hartwell and the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn.

Speaking of Fyre and Dawn they will be defending their gold against Katana Chance and Kayden Carter tonight. Chance and Carter have also been called up to the main roster so this match should be interesting.

Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne sill go one-on-one tonight as their feud continues.

And Dani Palmer who has appeared on Level Up and live events will make her NXT debut tonight.

Damage CTRL Vows To Take The Gold; LWO vs. Judgment Day

In case you missed this week’s Raw, on the second and final night of the WWE Draft, Damage CTRL picks up a big victory against the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. In a non-title bout, Bayley and Dakota Kai became victorious against Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan.

The match was pretty evenly throughout. At one point Kai tagged the foot of Bayley which the referee wouldn’t take as a legal tag but allowed Bayley to rake the eyes of Morgan. Morgan would eventually get the hot tag for Rodriguez. The final moments had Bayley tagging herself in as Morgan hit ObLIVion on Kai. Bayley stacks up Morgan for the victory.

The second match of the night was between the LWO including Zelina Vega, Rey Mysterio, and Santos Escobar facing Judgment Day’s Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio, and Damian Priest. Eyes were on Vega and Ripley during this match by women’s wrestling fans as they will battle for the SmackDown Women’s Title this Saturday at Backlash.

A few moments of the match included both Vega and Ripley mixing it up with the men. The match would eventually be won by the Judgment Day after Priest pinned Rey.

There was a backstage promo that gave further push for the Raw Women’s Title match at Backlash which will be the champion Bianca Belair taking on IYO SKY. As Belair was being interviewed, all of Damage CTRL entered. Belair commented that back at SummerSlam she was excited to see SKY come to the main roster as she knows was she is capable of and what she can do. But for Belair, she hasn’t seen it on the main roster. She continues to drive a wedge in Damage CTRL and trying to get SKY to believe that Bayley and Kai are holding her back.

Bayley states that with her and Kai’s win over the tag champs and with SKY facing Belair this weekend that Damage CTRL will have all of the gold.

We also got to see two Hall of Famers as Queen Sharmell and Molly Holly both helped reveal draft picks.

Kayden Carter and Katana Chance are called up from NXT to the Raw brand.

WWE Superstar Carmella Announces Pregnancy

Carmella has confirmed that she is pregnant.

She first broke the news with Good Morning America on Monday. She found out she was pregnant in March which was the time she was removed from her on-screen tag team with Chelsea Green.

“It’s just all been such a whirlwind,” she said. “I think because of my past, it was hard to get excited off the bat about this one, but I was cautiously optimistic. I try to have a good mindset, a positive mindset this time around, and it’s working. So I’m very happy about that.”

Carmella opened up to fans last year that she had gone through two miscarriages.

“After the first [test], I’m like, ‘Oh, are we sure? Are we sure?’ … I mean, I took [additional tests] for weeks just to make sure they still said positive. So it’s really just been such a mind work to get my head around. But the fact that I’m here, I’m on the other side of it, I’m almost out of the first trimester at this point … it’s been quite a journey.”

DD Power 15: April 23 to April 29

0

Welcome to this week’s Power 15 Rankings curated by us here at Diva-Dirt. This week we are reviewing women’s action across several companies.

As well as the 15 women featured, two wildcards will be featured each week chosen by Nick and Gary. These wildcards are for women who didn’t quite make the ranking but are ones to watch for the week ahead. Without further ado, let’s get in to it.

Please Note: This list is subjective to us at Diva Dirt. We encourage our readers for respectful and enjoyable conversations.

Gary’s Wildcard – Anna Jay

Recently Anna Jay has been feuding with the House of Black’s, Julia Hart.

This week on Rampage, Jay took on and defeated Ashley D’Amboise which sadly got consumed by a commercial break but the big news was Hart appearing to attack Jay post-match. Jay would get the upperhand however and have to be pried away by referees, signalling that this feud is not yet over.

Nick’s Wildcard – Jody Threat

The pending clash between Jody Threat and Alisha Edwards edges ever closer but this week on Impact, we saw Threat gain some momentum with a victory over Seleziya Sparx.

The match saw Threat exert dominance over her opponent and illustrating how much of a threat (pun not intended) she is amongst the ever growing Knockouts Division.

Last Chance Rematch For Knockouts World Title At Under Siege

Jordynne Grace will be getting one last chance at the Knockouts World Title, that is as long as Deonna Purrazzo is champ.

The two women battled at Rebellion with the vacant title on the line. The former champion Mickie James had to relinquish the gold due to not being medically cleared. With Purrazzo becoming victorious and a three time champ, this has left Grace still on the hunt.

At Under Siege on May 26, the two will go at it one more time. Only this time, if Grace loses she cannot get a title opportunity again as long as The Virtuosa is champ.

This is the first Knockouts match confirmed for this event. Diva Dirt will provide any further news and then results from Under Siege.
