Deonna Purrazzo Successfully Defends Against Taylor Wilde On IMPACT

This week’s IMPACT featured three Knockouts matches as the fallout from Rebellion continued.

To open the show, Masha Slamovich battled Jordynne Grace in a rematch from their 2022 feud. Killer Kelly was initially slated to face Slamovich, but missed the tapings due to a medical issue.

Nevertheless, Grace and Slamovich brought out their usual arsenals against each other in an effort to score the win. Grace dominated the early parts of the bout, while Slamovich used many strikes, elbows, and roll up attempts. In the end, they traded pinfall attempts until Grace stacked on top of her for the three.

Despite Kelly’s absence, she did appear in a vignette.

Later on, Jody Threat took on Canada’s own Seleziya Sparx in a quick bout. Sparx had a few moments of offense but was mostly dominated until Threat hit the F416 for the win. We also know that Threat will take on Alisha Edwards next week.

Jessicka and Rosemary had a backstage segment while wondering how to locate the Undead Realm when Crazzy Steve walked up and mentioned Father James Mitchell getting involved.

In the main event, Deonna Purrazzo defended her Knockouts World Championship against Taylor Wilde for the first time. Purrazzo tried to control the pace with arm holds to start, but Wilde turned the tide into her favor with stomps and a big headscissors takedown into a crossface.

KiLynn King interfered at one point, but it wasn’t enough. Purrazzo managed to take Wilde down into Venus de Milo for the submission victory. After the bout though, King and Wilde ganged up on Purrazzo until Jordynne Grace ran down to make the save as a sign of respect to the new champ.

NJPW Strong Women’s Title Tournament Set For Resurgence

0

NJPW has just announced a new women’s title for their promotion. Already having the IWGP Women’s Championship, there will now be a NJPW Strong Women’s Championship. The first champion will be crowned at Resurgence on May 21.

A four woman tournament has been confirmed that will involve women from STARDOM, CMLL, and AEW. Stephanie Vaquer will take on Mercedes Moné while Momo Khogo takes on Willow Nightingale. The winners of both these matches will face off in the finals to crown a brand new champion.

Moné recently dropped the IWGP Women’s Title to Mayu Iwatani.

Cora Jade Impresses During Match On Main Event, Possible Call-Up

0

With the WWE Draft starting on this Friday’s SmackDown, all eyes are focused on NXT to see who will receive that all important call-up. Cora Jade may be a name we are going to hear.

PWInsider Elite has reported that Jade has impressed WWE officials from he match she had against Nikki Cross on this week’s Main Event. The report added there were some who felt she’d got herself “in the race” for a call-up to the main roster.

PWInsider has also added that Jade is expected to be backstage at SmackDown tomorrow.

Jade’s last match was on April 25 at Spring Breakin’ where she came out successful against Lyra Valkyria. Prior to that, Jade had called out a handful of the locker room including the NXT Women’s Champion Indi Hartwell.

What do you think? Do you think Cora is ready for a call-up?

Sol Ruca Reportedly Out Of Action With ACL Injury

0

It is being reported by the Wrestling Observer that Sol Ruca is indeed out with an ACL injury.

Just the other day, the NXT Anonymous Twitter account caught Ruca getting attacked at the WWE Performance Center. This was a way of writing her off as they have done in the past with Nikkita Lyons and Wendy Choo.

The last Ruca wrestled was at the April 14 live event when she teamed with Dani Palmer against Jakara Jackson & Lash Legend. The last on screen match was the April 11 episode of NXT when she faced Tiffany Stratton.

There is no word on how long Ruca will be out at this time.

Jade Cargill Defeats Taya Valkyrie; Owen Hart Cup Returning This Summer

This week’s AEW Dynamite featured a big TBS Championship match as Jade Cargill put her title and undefeated streak on the line against Taya Valkyrie. The bout had an added caveat that if Valkyrie used her Road to Valhalla finisher, she would be disqualified.

The two powerhouses started with a lock up to test their strength before slapping each other. After the break, Valkyrie managed to hit a Blue Thunderbomb for a nearfall. Cargill then took Valkyrie up to the top rope for a superplex. Cargill hit a Canadian Destroyer out of nowhere, but Taya kicked out.

Taya powered out of Jaded with an arm drag and then attempted Road to Valhalla, but Aubrey Edwards reminded her that she’s banned for using it. Cargill then rolled Valkyrie up for a three-count after eight minutes.

Following the bout, Valkyrie attempted Road to Valhalla on Edwards before other referees intervened. Cargill’s undefeated streak now extends to 56-0.

Additionally, a battered Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter appeared in a backstage segment to officially declare war on The Outcasts. Hayter noted that the only way this will end is if they “send them to the bloody morgue.”

The Outcasts did not appear on Dynamite, however they are slated to appear in some form on Friday’s Rampage.

Additionally, Tony Khan has announced the Owen Hart Cup tournament will return this summer. The “master of ceremonies” will happen at Double or Nothing, while matches will take place throughout the company’s tour of Canada. Some matches will happen at Forbidden Door and the finals will take place in Calgary on Saturday, July 15.

What did you think of this week’s Dynamite? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Spoiler: Former WWE Talent Reportedly Set To Make IMPACT Debut

*Please note that this article contains a possible spoiler for the upcoming IMPACT tapings*

A huge report is coming out from PWInsider Elite which reflects on a former WWE talent making her debut with the company this Friday at the tapings. That name is none other than Trinity Fatu formerly known as Naomi.

First, if this is the case, this could be what the major surprise is that IMPACT is advertising.

According to the report, this will not be a one-off appearance but a start of her first run in IMPACT. This will be her first time back in the ring since she left WWE last May.

Fatu has trademarked the name Trinity Starr recently but has since dropped that trademark. She has also been seen training alongside former WWE talent Kalisto and was in the crowd watching Athena’s match in ROH.

Diva Dirt will provide any further news from the upcoming IMPACT tapings.

WWE And Vince McMahon Facing Lawsuit By Ex-Writer Over Racial Discrimination And Wrongful Termination

0

Vince McMahon and WWE continue to find themselves in hot water as a new lawsuit has been brought up by ex-writer Britney Abrahams.

Abrahams is a former writer who worked for the company between 2020 and 2022 until she was terminated. In a lawsuit filed on April 25, Abrahams is against Vince McMahon and other WWE executives over alleged racial and gender stereotypes in scripts and also her wrongful termination. She was told she was terminated by the company for taking home a WrestleMani 37 chair.

The lawsuit includes Stephanie McMahon, Chris Lubrando (SVP, Creative Writing Operations at WWE), WWE creative team members Chris Dunn, Ryan Callahan, Jen Pepperman, and former team member Mike Heller.

The lawsuit states –

“It is clear that despite Plaintiff’s excellent work performance, Defendants actually terminated her employment based on her complaints about Defendants’ racial discrimination and due to her race and gender.

While Plaintiff’s employment with WWE was a harrowing, traumatic experience, the events complained of herein do not reflect a unique incident, as rudimentary internet research paints a similarly distressing picture of discriminatory abuse and misconduct by WWE and those occupying the most powerful positions within WWE.

The totality of these acts demonstrates a pattern of discrimination intentionally perpetrated by the WWE management and executive officers against Plaintiff.

For a considerable period following her termination Plaintiff was unable to locate permanent work due to Defendants’ discrimination and defamatory statements regarding her work performance.

Upon information and belief, Defendants devised, implemented, and executed a scheme through which they gave disparate, preferential treatment and superior benefits to male and white, Caucasian employees, while knowingly and intentionally denying equal treatment and benefits to female and black, African American employees, including Plaintiff.

Defendants discriminated against and terminated Plaintiff on the basis of her race, color, gender and because Plaintiff complained about and/or opposed the unlawful conduct of Defendants related to the above protected classes.”

The scripts and ideas pitched that Abrahams was rallying against included “offensively racist and stereotypical jargon” in scripts for black performers. Abrahams claims her rejection to these ideas were ignored. Some of these pitches included Bianca Belair, Apollo Crews, Mansoor, Reggie (now Scrypts), and others.

Examples cited include Belair saying “Uh-Uh! Don’t make me take off my earrings and beat your ass! ” Also having Crews speaking with a “stereotypical and exaggerated Nigerian accent.”

The lawsuit also cites “discriminatory pitches” for Reggie where he would be “hunted” by now former WWE star Shane Thorne and also a love triangle between Mansoor, Aliyah and Angel Garza. This would lead up to Mansoor’s secret being that he was behind 9/11.

The full lawsuit can be read here.

Zelina Vega vs. Sonya Deville Confirmed For April 28 SmackDown

After being announced as the number one contender for Rhea Ripley’s SmackDown Women’s Championship at Backlash, Zelina Vega has more eyes on her.

During SmackDown Lowdown over the weekend, Vega was being interviewed about this huge opportunity of hers. As she was explaining how happy she is to be performing in Puerto Rico in front of her family, she was interrupted by Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green. The Complaint Committee didn’t seem to like that Vega got a title opportunity before them and that she just gets what she wants.

Once Vega reminded Deville and Green that unlike them she is a former tag team champion, she challenged Deville to a match.

This Friday’s show will also start the WWE Draft, so check in with Diva Dirt as we announce the draft live.

Indi Hartwell Retains NXT Women’s Title With Injured Ankle At Spring Breakin’

0

Indi Hartwell is still the NXT Women’s Champion after surviving a triple threat match in the main event of Spring Breakin’. She defeated both Perez and Tiffany Stratton.

The match certainly had its less favorable moments but the match made a turn when Hartwell’s ankle buckled underneath her. Stratton went for a high risk maneuver off of the top turnbuckle and came crashing down on both Hartwell and Perez on the outside. Immediately medical came to take a look at Hartwell as she was taking her foot of her wrestling boot.

Back in the ring it became a one on one match with the crowd not knowing if Hartwell was done. She was taken to the back. After several minutes trading near falls between Perez and Stratton, Hartwell came limping out to break up the count and save her gold.

Stratton executed her moonsault despite Hartwell trying to stop her. As Stratton goes for the pin, Hartwell pulled her out from under the bottom rope. The champ hits her running forearm to the back of Perez getting the pin and retaining the title.

Other women’s matches of the night included a victory for Cora Jade over Lyra Valkyria. It was a well paced even match up. The final moments hd Jade go for a weapon and attempt to use it in front of the referee. Valkyria tried to take advantage but Jade swatted her down before delivering the chop block and a DDT to get the win.

Lastly, we saw what appears to be the final act of the saga between Brooks Jensen & Kiana James as they took on Josh Briggs & Fallon Henley. Another very well paced match which ended in Briggs getting the pin on Jensen. James’ bag came into play which had Jensen accidentally knock her off the ring apron.

Post-match, Jensen tried to apologize to James and wanted validation that she still loved him. James attempted to slap him and told him that she never loved him. Briggs was there to console Jensen as he and Henley have welcomed him back into the fold.

Gigi Dolin made an appearance calling out Jacy Jayne. She said that they will have a match next week and Dolin’s brother will be present in the crowd.

Sol Ruca Attacked Backstage By Unknown Assailant

0

Caught by the NXT Anonymous Twitter account, Sol Ruca has been attacked backstage.

We first see Ruca talking to Dani Palmer before the two parted ways. Once Ruca walked past another set of doors, she was pulled in by someone and attacked. After the assailant ran off, Palmer was calling Ruca’s name to see what had happened. She made it to Ruca outside the double doors and called for medical.

The NXT Anonymous account has been around since January and has caught Ruca and Palmer before. Most recently chatting with Thea Hail.

Bianca Belair vs. IYO SKY Set For Backlash

Raw Discussion Post: 04.24.23

Tonight’s Raw is the last show before we get to the draft this Friday on SmackDown. Currently there is nothing advertised for the women tonight.

Triple H is said to be making a huge announcement tonight and it is said to be about a new title but will likely be for the male heavyweight.

It is also said that Vince McMahon has made a lot of changes for tonight’s show so there’s that.

As always, feel free to discuss tonight’s show below.

Isla Dawn & Alba Fyre Want To Form A Scottish Stable

0

The current NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions would love to have their tag team turn into a stable. Shawn Michaels approached them about the possibility of being put together in a team, which was in the works a while before it actually happened.

While speaking recently in an interview with Fightful, the champs would love to have a Scottish based stable. This would include Nikki Cross, Piper Niven, and Drew McIntyre. Dawn and Fyre started as enemies before Dawn lured Fyre into their tag team that started just a few months ago.

The champs defeated Kiana James and Fallon Henley to win the titles at Stand & Deliver. This is Dawn’s first gold in WWE while Fyre was the longest NXT UK Women’s Champion.

Would you like to see a Scottish stable? Join the discussion below.

Gail Kim And Gisele Shaw Filming The Amazing Race Canada

The world of professional wrestling continues to cross paths with reality television and game shows. This time it will be IMPACT’s Gail Kim and Gisele Shaw who are currently filming the newest season of The Amazing Race Canada. This is being reported by Fightful Select.

For those who aren’t familiar with the show, it is a race around the world where teams have to perform challenges to get to the finish line of each leg. Generally the last team to arrive at the end of each leg is eliminated. This continues until the final leg where the winners take home the cash prize. Gail and Gisele may be the first wrestling team on the Canada series but there was a wrestling couple on the United States version.

Back on the 25th American version of the show, then couple Brooke Adams (Tessmacher) teamed up with fellow wrestler and boyfriend Robbie E. (Robert Stone in NXT). They finished fourth.

DD Power 15: April 16 to April 22

0

Welcome to this week’s Power 15 Rankings curated by us here at Diva-Dirt. This week we are reviewing women’s action across several companies.

As well as the 15 women featured, two wildcards will be featured each week chosen by Nick and Gary. These wildcards are for women who didn’t quite make the ranking but are ones to watch for the week ahead. Without further ado, let’s get in to it.

Please Note: This list is subjective to us at Diva Dirt. We encourage our readers for respectful and enjoyable conversations.

Gary’s Wildcard – Jessica Elaban

Known to some as Jessi Kamea, formerly of NXT, is now wrestling Stardom as part of Club Venus.

Elaban has been competing there for a while now but this week in particular she excitedly shared a feature on her and Club Venus in Weekly Pro Wrestling, a local Japanese wrestling magazine.

As someone with no wrestling experience prior to NXT, after her release in 2021, it was highly likely Elaban would have turned away from wrestling but she has continued to pursue an in-ring career and is obviously hitting the right strides.

Nick’s Wildcard – Lash Legend & Jakara Jackson

While they haven’t been successful in tag team action yet, this pairing continues to gel well together in a way that other thrown together teams are not.

This week on LvL Up they faced Valentina Feroz and Wendy Choo in a losing effort but continued to look strong doing so. Jackson especially seems to have connected with the NXT crowd with them chanting along to her theme song!

With the WWE Draft coming up, could some room be made on NXT for these two to make their mark?

2023 WWE Draft – Who You Got?

0

The WWE Draft is coming and it will take place over the course of two nights. The first night will be Friday’s SmackDown on April 28 followed by Raw on Monday May 1. This will be the first draft since October 2021.

Diva Dirt has decided to share our draft decisions and how the women’s rosters will look on both Raw and SmackDown once completed.

Let’s take a look how we think Raw may look after the draft is finished.

We did not include Lita and Trish Stratus as they likely will just be utilized where their story plays out.

Raw Roster

SmackDown Roster

This will allow several tag teams to remain together or form so we can have a division finally.

  • Damage CTRL – Bayley, IYO, and Dakota…or eventually if IYO breaks off then add in Tegan.
  • Katana Chance and Kayden Carter
  • Mia Yim and Candice LeRae
  • Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler
  • Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville
  • Dana Brooke and Emma
  • Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez

NXT call ups include Zoey Stark, Katana Chance, Kayden Carter, Wendy Choo, Roxanne Perez, and Cora Jade.

Another option would be Indi Hartwell called up over Perez and Jade if Hartwell drops the NXT Women’s Title back to Perez which leads to Jade vs. Perez.

What are your thoughts? Who do you want to see on each brand? Discuss below.

Trinity Fatu Debunks Reports Saying STARDOM Turned Her Down Due To Cost

0

In a report from the Wrestling Observer that cane out on Friday, it stated that Trinity Fatu (Naomi), hasn’t been brought into STARDOM or NJPW due to costs. This following the success that Mercedes Moné has had thus far in Japan and that Fatu hasn’t emerged back in the ring yet.

Dave Meltzer claimed, “The hard part about a longer commitment (to Mone) is that Bushiroad’s wrestling division, even though Stardom has grown greatly, has overall taken a major financial hit because of New Japan’s declines related to the pandemic, even with New Japan World up. Because of that, the wrestling division is under pressure to keep spending down. An example is that they were told they could bring in Trinity Fatu, but it was felt it would cost too much for the return and thus far hadn’t made that deal.”

Fatu took to her Instagram Story and posted the words “Not True” across the report.

Fatu has recently been seen at a ROH event where she was in the front row watching Athena. She was not mentioned during the broadcast. She has also trademarked the name Trinity Starr but has since abandoned that name on April 17.

You can see her training in the ring with ex-WWE Superstar Kalisto in the post below.

Rhea Ripley vs. Zelina Vega Set For Backlash

The SmackDown Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley is set to have her first championship defense since her big win at WrestleMania. She will be defending against Zelina Vega at Backlash on May 6.

On the April 21 episode of SmackDown, Vega approached Adam Pearce and gave a pretty flawless reason as to why she should challenge Ripley. Besides the obvious feud between the LWO and Judgment Day, Vega being the only Puerto Rican female on the roster it would only make sense for her to face Ripley in Puerto Rico.

Pearce said he would check with upper management and Ripley herself and the match was made official later in the show.

As for another title, the Women’s Tag Team Titles were defended on this week’s SmackDown. Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez would successfully retain in their first title defense. They faced Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville. The final moments of the match had Morgan get revenge on Green by throwing water in her face. Morgan hit a sunset flip with leverage from Rodriguez to get the pin.

Green and Deville were furious after the match which most likely means the feud between these two teams isn’t over.

SmackDown Discussion Post: 04.21.23

Tonight’s SmackDown is the last one before the draft gets started next week.

The women’s tag team titles will be on the line as Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez will defend for the first time against Chelsea Green and Sony Deville. Green and Deville picked up a win against Candice LeRae and Michin on Raw to gain momentum for their title match.

As always, feel free to discuss the show below.

Knockouts World Title Match Set For April 27 IMPACT

This week’s IMPACT featured some fallout from Rebellion.

Alisha Edwards returned to the ring and was able emphatically defeat Tara Rising with a facebuster. Following the bout, Alisha continued attacking until Jody Threat made the save. Threat told Rising backstage that she plans on taking care of Alisha.

A vignette aired for Deonna Purrazzo as a new Age of The Virtuosa has begun.

We also saw a backstage segment featuring The Coven. Taylor Wilde called Purrazzo a fraud, which led to the announcement that Purrazzo will defend her Knockouts title against Wilde for the first time next week.

The April 27 episode of IMPACT will also feature a rematch between Jordynne Grace and Masha Slamovich as the two look to get back in the championship picture.

Baker And Hayter Victorious On AEW Dynamite; TBS Title Match Set For Next Week

Britt Baker successfully returned home on this week’s AEW Dynamite when she and Jamie Hayter battled The Outcasts in the first match (second segment) of the night.

The action got underway quickly as Britt’s homecoming entrance was cut short when The Outcasts ambushed her and Hayter on the ramp. Once the bell rang, though, Storm and Hayter got to work. By commercial break, Soho took Baker out at ringside right in front of Britt’s family.

After the break, Baker got the hot tag and single-handedly took out both Storm and Soho with a flurry of offense. Hayter made the save when the numbers game caught up, hitting a sliding lariat on Storm only for Soho to break the cover. Saraya then whacked Britt with Hayter’s title, but she was able to kick out. In the end, Baker stomped Soho and applied the Lock Jaw for the submission win.

Later in the night when Chris Jericho and Daniel Garcia attacked Adam Cole, Britt Baker confronted Jericho. Coming out alone proved to be a problem as all three of The Outcasts hit the ring and beat her up with a kendo stick while Cole was handcuffed to the ropes.

On a special Saturday edition of Rampage, Kiera Hogan will take on Julia Hart. Jade Cargill will also appear on Rampage just days before she defends her TBS Championship against Taya Valkyrie on next week’s Dynamite.

Zelina Vega Talks Being A Babyface For The First Time In Her Career

0

SmackDown’s Zelina Vega has had an interesting turn to her character over the past couple of months. One that fans aren’t used to seeing from her. For the first time in Vega’s career she is a babyface.

After taking seven months off due to injury, Vega returned in October as the new face of Legado Del Fantasma. They attacked Hit Row in their debut and this was LDF’s debut on the main roster. They previously had Elektra Lopez as their manager but she remained in NXT.

After several months as heels, LDF have joined up with Rey Mysterio and collectively are going by the name of the LWO. This has turned the whole group as faces in the process. They have been on Mysterio’s side during the feud with Dominik Mysterio and the rest of the Judgment Day including the newly crowned SmackDown Women’s Champion – Rhea Ripley.

While speaking with Ryan Satin on Out of Character, Vega discusses her influence on LDF and also becoming a babyface. Something she has never done in her entire career. She feels being a heel is so much easier and it is easier to have people hate you.

Trish Stratus Says She Wrestled At WrestleMania 39 With Injury

0

The return of Trish Stratus (and Lita) has been a refreshing moment in the women’s division over the past few months. Stratus along with Lita and Becky Lynch teamed up for WrestleMania 39 and defeated Damage CTRL.

On the most recent episode of Busted Open Radio, Stratus stated that she went into that match with an injury.

“I had a few obstacles. I had a partially torn hamstring, by the way. Nobody knew about that,” she said. “It was just like, WrestleMania, let’s just go,”she said. “This time, I had this injury, so I was a little unsure going in, but man, there’s something about feeling at home. It’s like riding a bike, as you guys know when we get back in there, your body’s like, ‘I got this just. Just do your thing,’ and it just flows. I’ve kept my health and fitness up, and that always plays into it as well. I am good in those moments, right? I work well under pressure. I always feel like I have to prove myself every time I go out there, so that was like a big driving force for me that evening, was to go out and prove that I belong in this match, that I belong with these other talented women and that I still belong here, period.”

Stratus has since turned heel on both Lita and Becky Lynch after costing them the tag team titles.
