Torrie’s One Night Stand

Fitting that tonight’s pay per view goes by the name of One Night Stand, because I guess that’s how you could describe former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson‘s return to the WWE – just one month after she was released. Torrie is scheduled to appear at a house show on June 14th at the Taco Bell Arena in her hometown of Boise, Idaho.

Now, these schedules are put together months in advance which is why they are always “subject to change.” This simply could have been put together while Torrie was on SmackDown!, to have her do a show for RAW.

But if it’s a more recent occurence, hopefully that will put the naysayers to rest. I, myself, confirmed last month that Torrie asked for her release and wasn’t cut by WWE. I wonder if perhaps WWE and Torrie came to terms to have her a do a little swan song in her hometown? Sure it isn’t on a grander scale like Trish had on pay per view, but it’s a nice, classy move if you ask me. Torrie will definitely draw a crowd in her hometown!

Perfect 10 Returns… With A Twist!

Some of you may or may not remember the short-lived Perfect 10 at the original Diva Dirt last year, it was then reincarnated as part of WeLoveDivas.com – well long story short, Perfect 10 is coming back to Diva Dirt! The Divas equivalent of the Power 25, the Perfect 10 will countdown the top 10 Divas and Knockouts on a weekly basis based on the week they have had on RAW, SmackDown, ECW, iMPACT! or on pay per view.

Previously on Style Showdown: The Judgment Day Divas, Beth Phoenix, Melina and Mickie James battled in a three-way showdown to see who you thought was the most stylish! 124 votes were cast and the result was a tie! Both Melina and Mickie gained 55 votes a piece while poor Beth squandered with 14.

This week: It seems that these two Divas have been doing battle since the turn of the century. The never ending feud between Kelly Kelly and Layla spills over onto Style Showdown this week. Which of these extreme Divas has the most high fashion look? Vote below!

Calm down! Not her own Emmy, I mean come on Sally Field, she ain’t… WWE is angling for their first ever Emmy award nomination by holding a screening of the 2007 “Tribute to the Troops” for a select audience of critics and voters. The event was hosted by Maria as well as JBL and Rey Mysterio.

I have to say, Maria looked positively glowing. Very elegant and sexy! Except for that one picture where she reverts to her “fish” pout. Other than that, she looks gorgeous. What do you think?

Michelle McCool‘s rise to prominence within WWE continues, as WWE takes a leap and shows faith in the SmackDown! Diva by having her represent WWE on an episode of The Best Damn Sports Show Period next week, alongside WWE Superstar John Cena. This is a big leap for Michelle, as she follows in the footsteps of Trish Stratus, Torrie Wilson and Candice Michelle to name but a few in doing promotional work for WWE. Turning up to SmackDown! tapings and pay per views is one aspect of being a top WWE star, but television interviews etc. are another – these spots are usually reserved for WWE’s top Superstars and Divas.

Teaming Michelle up with WWE’s top media spokesman, Cena shows that WWE is pushing for Michelle. It’ll be interesting to see how she handles this side of the business. And hate to state the obvious, but there is also a boundary with her thick accent. Hopefully she’s had some elouction lessons! Will Michelle be able to pull it off?

This week’s SmackDown! saw the return of Michelle McCool (while Natalya remains ominously missing), as she takes on Maryse in the featured Divas contest. There is a weird “cut” in the match, about half way through the video, the video cuts a part of the match. I really hope that’s not WWE’s editing, because it’s highly unprofessional! Other than that, check out the match below:

Again, another decent match from the Divas of the blue brand. Maryse worked better in the ring than she has in recent weeks (overselling anyone?) with Cherry. The end is a little sloppy with Maryse tapping out straight away, but there was nothing too bad about this match. There wasn’t any obvious botching, while there was some sloppiness in the Melina–Jillian match on RAW. However, I must call out WWE, I am not pleased that they have overshadowed the Natalya-Michelle feud with Cherry and Maryse. There is room for both, but if I had to choose between the two, it’s all about Natalya-Michelle. I hope Natalya returns to SmackDown! next week. Or are they blowing off this feud and acting like it never happened because of the WWE Draft? Michelle has gained a lot of traction over the past 6-8 months and many fans (and possibly, those within WWE) would probably love to see her on RAW. But there is still 4 weeks till the Draft, they could easily – and conclusively – end the storyline between Michelle and Natalya before then.

Gail Addresses Weekend Crazies

First ever TNA Knockout Champion, Gail Kim addressed the rumours that made rounds last weekend that she was returning to WWE. The rumours, of course, were made up by what I like to call the “weekend crazies”, a group of people who have too much time on their hands by the week’s end and so type up fake news stories. Anyway, Gail – gracefully as ever I might add – had the following to say:

orry its been soooo long since my last blog…ive never been as busy as i have been this year. I guess thats a good thing! Im always trying to keep up to date but its really hard when you are on the road constantly. So recently i received numerous emails regarding some rumors on the internet. Some people thought it would be a good idea to clear up the situation and thought it was blog worthy. This was of course the topic of me leaving TNA and returning to the WWE. By now, if you do keep up to date with wrestling news… you will know that the rumor was already cleared up and the news was completely inaccurate. I guess it was credited to a credible wrestling writer so people did believe it. I know I always sound like a broken record, but I have repeatedly told everyone not to believe everything they read. I understand its hard not to but I can honestly say that half the things written about me are never true and if they are, they always have inaccurate facts. so please remember to take everything with a grain of salt. I guess its just part of being in the public eye so I have to accept these things! Just so everyone knows, Im almost never home in the next 2 months so if i seem like im slacking, its just that im insanely busy. I’ve always admired Gail for her way with words. If you’ll indulge me in a comparison with WWE’s Ashley, who addresses rumours brashfully in her blogs; meanwhile Gail is always dignified. Even though she’s no longer with WWE, she doesn’t bash them at every turn and corner. Gail is a consummate professional and I really admire her work ethic. If only other celebs had her eloquence! (What was up with Usher on TRL this week?!)

Idol Reject + TNA = Publicity Apparently

What happens when you put an Idol alum and TNA Knockout together? No, the world doesn‘t explode! No, they make music videos! TNA’s latest marketing ploy is to bring on board a former American Idol reject! Unfortunately not the multi-talented Oscar winner, Jennifer Hudson… though i do have to give them props, they picked a cute one – Ace Young will be appearing for TNA very soon. I don’t know the full details because to be honest, I’m not interested.

But just in case TNA hasn’t done it’s job in making the message wasn’t loud and clear already that Ace is coming, they even created an alternate music video for Ace’s first single, “Addicted” starring TNA Knockout SoCal Val and I guess what would be her (on screen) finace, Black Machismo. Hmm, a guy who got voted off American Idol or Timbaland, a guy who’s worked with musical royalty such as Madonna and Justin Timberlake? Doesn’t compare really…

Between shooting porn fetish flicks and movies called Porn Shoot Massacre, TNA’s Salinas aka Shelly Martinez is being trained to wrestle by her charges, LAX (Homicide and Hernandez). In an interview with The Sun, Salinas reveals the deets:

So tell us a bit more about your new member.

Homicide: F***ing smokin’!

She’s from LA, from the West Coast and like me and Konnan always said – LAX has to be like a real gang.

I represent New York City and Puerto Rico, Hernandez represents Texas and Mexico. Salinas represents Los Angeles and Mexico.

Whoever comes in, if we got a Dominican guy or some Cuban, they are a part of that chapter.

We’ve noticed a lot of Caucasians are down with that, we’ve got no problem with that. If you support LAX then we’ve got mad love for you.

We’d like to open a UK chapter when we come over. LAX is about international, it’s not just all about Latinos. If you’ve got love for LAX, then you’re down with us.

Salinas – what’s it like being on the road with these two?

Salinas: I have so much fun with them, joke around and play little jokes on each other, it’s all good.

And they’re teaching me to wrestle too. We get in there and roll around.

We all grew up on the street and that makes it work. A lot of people don’t know that about me because they’re so stuck on my old character I used to play.

We are officially filing a missing persons report for Escort Ashley, who has been noticeably absent from Monday nights for the past three weeks. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, merely speculating the reason for the Dirty Diva’s absence. Is it mereley because WWE doesn’t have anything for her – after all she’s not involved in any current storylines – with the spotlight on Beth Phoenix and Melina. Or is it coincidental that her disappearance coincides with the escort controversy?

Ashley was last seen on Monday Night RAW on May 5th, 2008. During that time however, the Diva has been profiled on WWE.com for appearing in a music video, has had a new photoshoot and even blogged on her MySpace. Though she did keep schtum about why she hasn’t been on TV recently, is there a bigger picture?

Natalya has a new photoshoot up on WWE.com, aptly titled “Peachy”. Oh WWE.com, you have *such* a way with words.. Personally, I like how Natalya is usually more covered up than the other Divas. It’s kind of a breath of fresh air compared to the bejeweled bras and exposed thongs we’re used to seeing. Overall, I like the look she’s got going. And I’m probably transferring some of my Lindsay Lohan hate here, but I’d burn the tights. IMO, those are only acceptable with a looser fitting item on top.

Wrestling’s First Lady *Cough* Does The Hustle

Wrestling’s self proclaimed first lady (oh please), Missy Hyatt takes center stage on this week’s Heyman Hustle… as the tables turn on the former ECW head honcho, as he’s the one who gets hustled! Missy has been employed by all three major brands: WCW, ECW and even a short lived stint in WWE where she hosted her own talk show, “Missy’s Manor.” Missy and Heyman haven’t always seen eye to eye, regardez:

“Is it any wonder that this woman walks away with a pair of 44DDD’s and NO ONE NOTICES because all she does is yack yack yack yack yack? I’ve never seen anyone kill their own sex appeal as much as Missy… Oh, don’t get me started!”

As annoying as she is (and as smacked out on crack as she looks), Missy is pretty hilarious on this episode of the Hustle. Among the craziness:

• Watch as Missy explains how she’s slept with Emmy winners, Oscar winners and many more (Oscar winners? Hmm, Jack Nicholson has quite the track record, I doubt any other A-Lister would touch her!)
• Missy sets her sights on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as her future husband!
• Diva controversy: Inside a convenience store Missy picks up a bottle of (what I’m assuming is) champagne and says “Oh my god, I’ve seen Tammy put that somewhere you don’t wanna know…” Referring to former WWE Diva, Sunny perhaps? The two used to have their own Internet porn site.

Love Sick: Knockout Concussed

TNA Knockout Angelina Love found herself with a concussion following Monday night’s iMPACT! tapings. One half of the Beautiful People, Love wrestled Roxxi Laveaux in scenes that will air tonight on Spike TV. Ang wrote the following blog, updating fans on her health:

Hey everybody!

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has sent me emails, myspace mesages and texts regarding my injury at the TNA tapings yesterday.

I did bop my head and get a concussion but I am doing just fine. I got home today and took a big long nap and tomorrow I’m going in for a massage on my neck.

So I’ll be just fine! The next time you’ll see me I’ll be at the Slammiversary PPV at the Desota Center in Southaven, MS with my Partner In Crime and the other half of The Beautiful People, Velvet Sky!

Michelle McCool is back with her latest photoshoot at WWE.com, “Heavensent.” Michelle is the master of catalogue poses, although it doesn’t really work in this shoot. Showing more skin than some of her past shoots, there’s definitely a contradiction between her posing and her clothing. iMPACT! Spoilers: New Knockout Joins Fray

Next week on iMPACT!, fans will see the debut of a new TNA Knockout, who from the description seems to be acting as a “problem solver” for the Beautiful People tag team of Angelina Love and Velvet Sky. Independent worker, Mickie Knuckles will make her debut next week on the show. PWInsider.com reports that Knuckles isn’t shy about doing more gory matches (think blood and guts):

The new TNA Knockout that hit the ring during tonight’s Impact taping was IWA Mid-South star Mickie Knuckles, who was trained by Ian Rotten. She’s won the IWA Queen of the Death Match tournament in the past, so she’s not shy about doing blood and guts style bouts if TNA ever goes in that direction for the Knockouts division.

As a member of the Beautiful People, I would think she’s designed to pair off with ODB.

Somewhere again backstage, Cherry was getting checked over in the trainer’s room, sporting a nice bruise on her face, when Maryse walked in. Words were exchanged, and a match was up next.

Michelle McCool vs. Maryse w/ Deuce and Domino. Towards the end of the match Cherry’s music plays and she comes out to the ramp, distracting Maryse long enough for Michelle to get the submission and the win.

Melina has yet another new WWE.com photoshoot – this time entitled “Brownout”. I know it’s a play on words (like “blackout”, but she’s wearing brown.. OMG LOL), but that name is totally giving me strange images. Anywayyysss, I’m not too keen on the look. I wasn’t a fan if the look (both the outfit and the strange updo) when she wore it on RAW two weeks ago, and I’m still not loving it. The random addition of a desk chair that I’m *convinced* is one that I had in my college dorm this past year doesn’t salvage it, either.

Also, the combo of black and brown colors kind of irks me, but that’d be the photo director’s problem. I mean, we’re talking about the geniuses that have Divas posing in front of popcorn machines and brandishing cotton candy while lounging on concrete stairs. They’re not exactly winning awards for their work.. (Click here to see the full photoshoot.)

RAW Redux – May 26, 2008

This week on RAW: BFFs, Melina and Jillian came to blows in the ring, Beth Phoenix watched and commentated, an “I Quit” match was announced for One Night Stand, Mickie James appeared in a pointless segment while JBL made a “subtle” escort joke and Katie Lea shined on the mic!

Thoughts & Reactions
Erin’s psychic powers yesterday predicted that Melina and Beth will face off in an “I Quit Match” while I was leaning more towards cage match or strap match, but “I Quit” works fine for me too! Beth and Melina saw some storyline advancement going into their big battle this Sunday night and gosh, is it just me or is there an air of excitement surrounding the future of the women’s division right now? Of course, WWE has tightened up and are delivering solid women’s action but to go a step further and deliver a first with this match… I’m certainly excited! I just hope that all the WWE Divas will be in the back watching this on the monitor on tenterhooks. Because for me this match marks a revolution of some-kind and that’s something that all these Divas, no matter what show they’re on should support.

I wasn’t really happy with the Melina-Jillian match, partly because just a couple of weeks ago they were BFFs. I think this is a feud they could have explored after Melina’s done with Beth. But they rushed it and it was all over in like 2-3 minutes. I do understand that there’s no other heel Divas so that would explain why they went this route. Melina is officially a face, I have always wondered what that would be like since she’s so devilish, but the fans seem to love her – note the big pop when she came out. To be a great Diva you need to be versatile as a face and a heel, Melina seems to be going in the right direction so far. Anyway, this match was a little sloppy, see the end spot before Melina hit her submission hold. Adding soundtrack to this match was Beth Phoenix on commentary, for me it didn’t work. After hearing Melina on commentary last week, I was underwhelmed by Beth, she came across really bland and boring and “textbook” like she was reading an autocue. Anyway, I cannot wait till One Night Stand!

Mickie James has been stuck on “backstage” mode in recent weeks, I guess it makes a nice change but at the same time, she is the freakin’ Women’s Champion. I guess we’re not going to get Katie vs Mickie after all *sniffle* no advancement there. Instead, Mickie gets a backstage segment with Vince and JBL. A nice subtle reference to Ashley there, I guess it was inevitable and Creative thought enough time had passed. Notice how Ashley was again, noticeably absent… not that I’m complaining. I don’t know about you but the phrase “bodily fluids” makes me cringe, it always has. Mickie is a bad actor.

From Mickie’s robotic Razzie winning performance, we get Katie Lea who is rather playful on the mic, isn’t she? Her mannerisms are very diva-ish, not Diva-Diva-ish, but like Mariah Carey diva-ish. Finally, a high profile feud and push for the Burchills. This segment came across very well, I think working will Mr. Kennedy will help give Paul the rub, while we get to see more of Katie. I was kinda hoping Mickie would run down the ramp and attack her *sigh* maybe a mixed tag team match is in our futures, though.

“I Quit” Match Announced for One Night Stand

It looks like Melanie was on to something! Moments ago on RAW, it was announced that Melina and Beth Phoenix will compete in an “I Quit” match this Sunday at One Night Stand. I could be wrong, but wouldn’t this be the first of it’s kind for the Divas? For those unfamiliar with the premise of the match, here’s Wikipedia to the rescue:

An “I Quit” Match is a type of professional wrestling match in which the only way to win is to make the opponent say the words “I quit” (usually into a microphone). Generally, whenever a wrestler knocks down his opponent with a move or inflicts a submission move, he will grab the microphone and ask the opponent to say “I quit,” and the opponent (at least early in the match) will make some kind of retort. “I Quit” matches are commonly used to settle kayfabe grudges and embarrass rivals, since saying “I Quit” is usually a sign of admitted inferiority.

And if may I brag for a moment, I suggested this match to Melanie earlier today. ;) I will now be accepting money via PayPal for psychic readings..

Awesome Kong Invitational Continues

TNA’s Kurt Angle Awesome Kong Invitational is set to become a regular segment on TNA iMPACT! Yes folks, that’s right – TNA has run out of storylines for Kong already. Reeking of Kurt Angle’s own challenge skit in WWE, Kong challenges fans to face her in the ring – and obviously destroys them.

Tell me, how does this advance her character? How does this create competition for her Knockout Championship? You gotta hand it to TNA, they managed to turn the Kong character stale in record time. Just 5 months ago, she and Gail Kim were stealing the show; she won the Knockout title in the main event of iMPACT! and now? What could have been a major leap for the Knockout, wrestling men was quashed in a matter of minutes at Sacrifice when she was made to look weak and stupid. If anything, they should have used that a s a “character flaw” and really pushed Gail or ODB to finally beat her and win the title.

I certainly hope, if they continue with this storyline, they have her drop the title and let the other Knockouts put on decent matches and feud for the gold. For the first time since the TNA women’s division launched I think we’re seeing a turning of the tides – WWE’s women’s division is better.
