Sonya Deville Returns From Injury On Raw May 20

0

Sonya Deville is back!!

Deville, who has been out of action for nine months from an ACL injury, made her return on the May 20 episode of Raw. She appeared backstage in a segment with Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark.

Deville said hello to Shayna while introducing herself to Zoey. She asked if she could speak to them as she had something to talk to them about. Stark seemed interested but Baszler cut her off and told Deville that they weren’t interested in what she was selling.

Sonya’s last match was on July 28 where she and Chelsea Green lost to Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair. Deville had just won her first gols in WWE with Green as tag team champions prior to her injury.

Lyra Valkyria Advances To The Queen Of The Ring Tournament Finals

Lyra Valkyria is one Nightwing away from becoming the Queen of the Ring.

In the Raw semi-finals match, Valkyria defeated former WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY. The match was given nearly 20 minutes. In a match that started off a bit clunky, it turned into a solid bout between the two. The final moments had Valkyria and SKY on the turnbuckle before SKY countered out and hit a power bomb.

With Valkyria down, SKY went for the over the moonsault but Valkyria moved out of the way and SKY landed on her feet. Valkyria went for her Nightwing finisher but SKY sneaked out of it only for Valkyria to sit on top of her to get the pin.

Valkyria is heading to Saudi Arabia this Saturday for the PLE where she will face either Bianca Belair or Nia Jax in the QOTR finals.

A promo by SKY happened before the match that can be seen below.

Peyton Royce On WWE Main Roster Debut: Had No Idea Carmella Was Cashing In

Back in 2018, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay known collectively as The IIconics made their main roster debut on SmackDown. In this debut they attacked Charlotte Flair which allowed Carmella to cash in her Money in the Bank briefcase and become SmackDown Women’s Champion.

In a recent interview with Ring the Bell, Royce (Cassie Lee) tells all about that moment. She calls it a dream debut and lets fans know that they weren’t even aware that Carmella was cashing in.

“I was shaking in my little boots right there. So nervous. I can even tell watching it back and the way I talk, I just don’t have the confidence that I eventually did have. I was just so nervous. This was basically my dreams coming true in this moment. It was such a huge opportunity for us against Charlotte. We had no idea Carmella was going to cash in. No, no, no idea at all, and then we realized how big of an opportunity that was, and we didn’t actually grasp it until Carmella cashed in. But yeah, this is, I mean, we talk about it all the time. If we could dream up our debut, this is what it would be.”

The full Ring the Belle interview can be viewed here:

After their time in WWE, The IIconics went on to be named The IInspiration in IMPACT while becoming tag team champions. They cut their time short there and took a step back from wrestling. Royce has had her first child, returned shortly to the Australian indie scene before currently being pregnant with her second child. Kay has also given birth to her first child while away from the ring.

In some sad news to report, Natalya and TJ Wilson have had to say goodbye to their cat 2Pawz. Nattie wrote the following on her social media:

Our hearts hurt. We lost 2Pawz today. He’s been so strong and brave battling cancer and I’m so proud of him for how hard he fought. I’ve never had a cat as unique as him. Pawz and I had the most special connection. He was just exceptional, loving, loyal, sweet and so full of personality. I’m going to miss him so much. He’ll have a safe place in my heart forever and there will never be another like him.

2Pawz is so popular with fans that he has his very own Instagram page with 144K followers. He was also a breakout star on Total Divas.

Bianca Belair and Nia Jax Advance to the Semifinals of the Queen of the Ring Tournament

Friday Night SmackDown invaded the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida tonight. This week continued to have the Queen of the Ring tournament as its main focus for the women’s division as we are only eight days away from crowning a new King and Queen of the Ring in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Saturday, May 25th.

The show would open with one half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Bianca Belair, coming out for her match in the Queen of the Ring tournament against Tiffany Stratton.

The two would lock up to begin. Tiffany pulled at Bianca’s braid, but unfortunately for her, the EST of WWE got up quickly and would unload some impressive flexibility on the Buff Barbie. It was noted that Bianca was still wrestling with the hurt knee she got in her first round match last week and was continuing to fight through the pain. That knee would be targeted by Tiffany before the first commercial break, being thrown into the ring post and steel steps.

Once the show returned from the break, the knee continued to be a source of damage for Bianca but she continued to remain confident despite being at a disadvantage. She was nearly able to get a KOD in but it would be reversed by Tiffany as the two fought tooth and nail to make sure the other wouldn’t be able to win. Ultimately, Tiffany inflicted a rake in the eye and tried to pin Bianca, but she kicked out, frustrating Stratton and setting her up for another KOD that would give Bianca the victory.

Cathy Kelley would interview Bianca following the match and Bianca would say that while her knee is not fully one hundred percent, she did not become the EST by making excuses. She shows up and shows out every single time, and next week, nothing is stopping her from becoming Queen of the Ring, injured knee or not.

Another interview took place as Byron Saxton stood backstage with the other half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions, Jade Cargill. Cargill spoke about her opponent later on, Nia Jax, saying that Jax is one of WWE’s best. But to Jade, Jax is just in her way. Bianca interrupts to have a conversation with her tag team partner. Cargill questions the well-being of her injured knee, but Bianca says not to worry; she’ll be fine, especially if she has to face her next week. Cargill tells her to just take everything one match at a time, and leaves to go get ready. Something tells me this won’t end well between the two.

Nia Jax is with Cathy Kelley, who conducts another interview, but her question gets interrupted by Jax, who mocks her opponent and adamantly claims that Jade Cargill will NOT be Queen of the Ring.

Back from the commercial break was Jade Cargill who made her entrance in preparation for what would be ahead of her in just a few moments. Once the match kicked off, the two traded attacks on each other, seemingly trying to prove who the more dominant woman was. Jade’s daughter was present for the match as an audience member, with Nia going out of her way to tell the girl, “YOUR MOM SUCKS!”. From that moment on the match became even more personal, with Jade slamming Nia’s head into the commentary table and Jax consequently clotheslining her into the barricade. Jax begins to make a mess of the ringside area and gets ready to openly attack Cargill with a steel chair, but Jade would pull the chair out of her grasp and use it to hit Jax.

Jade ended up getting disqualified, meaning Nia was the winner and would advance to the semifinals of the tournament. Jax and a visibly bloodied Cargill continued to fight after the match was already over, with officials having to restrain them. The altercation continued briefly, but officials would get a hold of both of them again.

The last women’s interview for the night featured WWE Women’s Champion Bayley. Her thoughts on the tournament are once again interrupted by the duo of Chelsea Green and a snoring Piper Niven. Chelsea claims that Bayley was the only reason Piper lost last week to Jade Cargill, as the champion had supposedly sprinkled the “bad Bayley juju” to them. Bayley says that right now isn’t really a good time for them to have a talk, but they can talk in the ring next week. She then lets out a short laugh and trails off, with Chelsea and Piper having giddy expressions on their faces.

Here’s what’s scheduled for SmackDown next week:

  • Bianca Belair vs Nia Jax in the semifinals of the SmackDown Queen of the Ring tournament; the winner will go on to face either IYO SKY or Lyra Valkyria of Raw in the finals of the tournament at King and Queen of the Ring in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Saturday, May 25th.

Report: Athena Injured At Recent ROH Tapings

It is being reported by PWInsider that ROH Women’s Champion Athena has suffered an injury.

The report states:

Athena injured her left leg at the ROH tapings last night.

While wrestling Viva Van last night, there was a spot where Athena charged at Van, who ducked down and pulled the middle rope down.  Athena took a bump through the ropes and landed on the floor.  When she returned, she was limping but drilled Van with a forearm smash for the pin.  Van initially kicked out but then stayed down for a second pinfall attempt we are told, so it would appear Athena relayed to the referee that she had been hurt.

We are told that Athena stayed in character after the bout but upon leaving the ring, did not put any weight on her left leg and hopped out while being assisted by the referee and another staffer.

Athena is over 518 days into her ROH Women’s Championship reign.

PWInsider.com is told that Athena was checked out after the match, but we have not confirmed the nature of the issue or whether she is expected to be out of action.

SmackDown Discussion Post: 05.17.24

Tonight’s SmackDown will hold the quarterfinals of the blue brand for the QOTR Tournament.

Tiffany Stratton Reportedly Receiving No Heat From Viral Video

0

Tiffany Stratton has been in some hot water over the past couple of days, at least when it comes to the fans online.

For those that may have missed it, Stratton shared a pre made video clip on her Instagram story of a tag team match where she knocked Jade Cargill off of the ring apron. The video then zoomed in on Bianca Belair’s face with a popular audio clip stating “Black Bitch.” Stratton quickly removed the post.

In a report from PWInsider, there is no heat on Stratton as a result.

There has been a social media rumor making the rounds over the last day that Stratton was in trouble for a post she allegedly made, which then fed into a story that her Queen of the Ring tournament match against Bianca Belair was pulled. It has not.

She’s absolutely not in trouble for anything internally within WWE and has been nothing but praised by management and other talents since moving to the main roster a few months back. Despite the rumors, Stratton’s status within the company is unchanged and she remains on good footing, as she’s seen as someone with a very high upside by management.

Stratton will continue to take on Belair tonight in the QOTR quarterfinals.

Update On Charlette Renegade Missing From AEW/ROH TV *Updated*

Charlette stated this was false and will update fans on her time.

One half of the Renegade Twins has been missing from AEW/ROH television for quite some time. While Robyn Renegade has been frequently featured as a singles competitor, her sister Charlette has been missing in action.

So where has Charlette been? According to Fightful Select she has been dealing with an injury.

The Renegades had been regularly featured on ROH programming, and often appeared on All Elite Wrestling. However, in 2024, Robyn had appeared exclusively as a singles star, with her sister Charlette nowhere to be seen.

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp has learned that Charlette has been battling concussion issues that have kept her out of action. She’s actively working to get cleared for an in-ring return, though we haven’t heard of a specific timetable on a potential return for Charlette.

Charlette’s last match was in December in ROH where she teamed up with Robyn and Taya Valkyrie in a win over Kiera Hogan, Trish Adora, and Lady Frost.

Robyn is set for action this Saturday against Deonna Purrazzo on Rampage.

Spitfire & SDL Win Champions Challenge; Gail Kim Offers A Hand “Home” To Gisele Shaw

On tonight’s TNA Impact! Champions and Knockouts look to settle their differences once and for all.

To kick off Knockouts action for the night, a rematch is underway between Ash By Elegance and Xia Brookside, as Ash looks to regain her bejeweled knuckles that were taken from her a few weeks ago.

Before the match can even get underway Ash attempts to appoint George Icemean as the official of this match, but is quickly shot down as Brookside attempts to gain a strong start.

The two end up going back and forth, with Brookside looking strong throughout the match. Unfortunately for her, Iceman gets involved for Ash to gain advantage with the distraction. Ash hits her patented Swanton Bomb off the top rope and picks up the win and gets her jewelry back.

Post-match, the duo taunt Brookside and demand that she bow down and give the rings back to Ash. Brookside proceeds to do just as she is told, and knocks Ash out with the knuckles in hand.

We are back in the Wellness Retreat we saw last week, and TNA Hall of Famer Gail Kim is having her talk with Gisele Shaw. Shaw seems distraught after losing the championship match for the TNA Knockouts World Championship some time ago. Kim understands that Shaw wants to refocus and clear her mind, but not at the cost of “quitting.” She then goes on to give her a guiding hand on the way back “home.”

In tonight’s main event, all the TNA champions are set to face off against their rivals in a 16-person “Champions Challenge” tag team match. On the champion side representing the Knockouts are TNA Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace and TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions Masha Slamovich and Alisha Edwards, who are set to face off against Steph De Lander and the team of Spitfire.

The two teams begin to collide and back from commercial, Grace and Dani Luna are in the ring going back and forth. Grace makes the tag to Laredo Kid and the two go at it before SDL forces the tag and Slamovich makes the tag in. SDL doesn’t want anything to do with Slamovich and tags in Jody Threat, who is still upset at losing her tag team championship and takes it out on Edwards. Unfortunately, for Threat the Knockouts Tag Team Champions seem to take control over her for a while. Luna tries to make the save, but get taken out by their opposing forces.

Chaos ensues and everyone goes airborne including Grace and Threat. In the end, Joe Hendry takes out Brian Myers with the Standing Ovation and wins it for the All-Stars team.

Post-match, PCO makes a dramatic entrance to the ring and gives a black rose to SDL, which she accepts.

How was tonight’s TNA Impact? What did you think of that huge tag team match? How will the future pan out for Shaw? And what is going on with PCO and SDL? Let us know what you think in the comments!

Carmella Says Becky Lynch Was Planned To Win MITB Rematch In 2017

0

Carmella became the very first Ms. Money in the Bank when she won the briefcase in 2017. However, this win was sparked with controversy as it was James Ellsworth to unhook the briefcase and drop it down to Carmella below.

A rematch of this match took place and had all the same participants: Carmella, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Natalya, and Tamina. In this, Carmella won again, but this time on her own.

While speaking on The Nikki & Brie Show podcast, Carmella said it was planned for Lynch to win in the rematch.

Originally, it was supposed to be Becky, she was winning it the second time, that was the plan. We had another match a week later, the plan was for Becky to win it, but because I came on SmackDown after Money in the Bank and I cut a promo opening SmackDown that night. I remember I opened SmackDown with the promo and we had physicality later in the night when Bryan [Daniel Bryan] was the GM and he was supposed to talk about us having another match. The physicality was me on top, I was supposed to knock everyone out of the ring, and because the promo was so good, that they changed it in the end where Becky and Charlotte I was down and out and they were up at the end of the night because I ended up winning it the following week. I’m so grateful it went the way it did.”

More of Carmella on The Nikki & Brie Show can be listened to below –

Kip Sabian Comments On A Penelope Ford Return: “I For One Can’t Wait”

AEW’s Kip Sabian responded to a fan on social media in regards to his wife and fellow AEW talent Penelope Ford.

Ford has not been seen or in action on AEW television since February 2023. Her absence has been kept rather quiet, but Sabian has now mentioned she is working on her comeback.

Answering a fan online, Sabian stated:

“When shes finally back she’s going to take over for sure, if you could all see what she’s been cooking up recently…

I for one can’t wait”

Willow Sends Mercedes Through A Table; Storm Wins Grudge Match

To start off the night in women’s action, Renee Paquette is backstage with the AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm and Mariah May. Paquette informs them that Saraya, Mariah May, and even Luther cannot be involved in the grudge match against Harley Cameron scheduled for tonight. After a vicious post-match attack last week by the hands of Cameron, Storm has some choice words to say to her.

The match gets underway and Cameron gets an aggressive start against Storm, but the prowess of Storm sends Cameron to the outside of the ring. Interestingly, the one person who was not banned from ringside, the No. 1 contender for the AEW Women’s Championship Serena Deeb, is on stage getting an up-close look at this match.

Cameron takes advantage of this distraction and manages to gain control of the match. Storm manages to find an opening, but the action continues to go back and forth. Storm feigns a hit and manages to connect a Storm Zero for the win.

Paquette is in the ring as we are about to start the contract signing for the TBS Championship match between champion Willow Nightingale and Mercedes Moné.

Nightingale says she respects Moné, but asks her if she respects the TBS Championship. With its lineage and previous titleholders, Nightingale is not willing to let go of this title so easily.

Moné says if she wants to talk about legacy, then look no further as she touts herself as the “Greatest of All Time.” She goes on to further state that she’ll represent herself on red carpets and baseball pitches as the “new face of TBS.”

The two sign the dotted line and Nightingale says that the last time they faced she walked out as champion, while Moné couldn’t “walk out at all.” Moné is enraged and slaps Nightingale across the face, all the while taunts the crowd with the TBS Championship in hand. Nightingale gets some revenge of her own and sends Moné through the table.

What did you think about tonight’s AEW Dynamite? Is Mercedes Moné able to walk out of Double or Nothing with the championship? Can Toni Storm prevail over Serena Deeb? Let us know in the comments below!

Saraya To Appear On Episode Of MTV’s Catfish

Saraya will be filming an episode of MTV Catfish as a co-host. Below is some additional information from Fightful Select.

Saraya is appearing on MTV’s Catfish.

Word emerged this week that the former Paige would be appearing on the popular MTV series that somehow still exists, Catfish. We’re told the episode doesn’t actually focus on her, but she’s planned as a co-host.

The episode is filming this week, with the last day of filming being May 15. This will cause Saraya to miss the Seattle AEW Dynamite tapings due to the scheduled.

One source joked that if the episode was actually about Saraya, it’d be a very quick episode because it’s pretty easy to verify her. They had found plenty of accounts pretending to be her, naturally.
