Shotzi Says The Wyatt Family Got Her Back Into Wrestling

0

SmackDown Superstar Shotzi says that she was a huge fan of The Wyatt Family.

The faction started in 2012 and would move to the main roster in 2013. In a recent interview with The Rip Tour Podcast, Shotzi explains how The Wyatt family got her back into wrestling. And so much that her and her sister wanted to be the female version.

“I watched a little bit with my brother growing up, but I was never a huge fan. I just never thought that someone as small as me could be a wrestler. I always thought you had to have the biggest muscles ever to be a wrestler. I was doing musical theater, I moved back home from going to musical theater college and dropped that dream. I started watching WWE again, and it was the Wyatt family that I was watching that got me into wrestling again. I thought they were so cool. Me and my sister wanted to be the female version of them. The rest is history. We talked about that, and I immediately went online, ‘How do you get into wrestling?’ I looked up schools near me and started training a few months later. I thank the Wyatt family for that,” she said.

“I was a theater kid. I was watching wrestling and was like, ‘this is aggressive theater.’ This is what I need to do.” (Fightful)

Currently, Shotzi and Scarlett have teamed up for the spooky season as the host of Chamber of Horrors on YouTube. You can view the first episode below that featured Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio.

IYO SKY Retains Against Asuka; Dawn & Fyre Cursed Tag Team Titles

On the Sept. 22 episode of SmackDown, fans finally got to witness IYO SKY and Asuka go one-on-one. SKY had her WWE Women’s Title on the line and the match did not disappoint.

The back half of the bout had Asuka doing everything she could to submit or put to sleep SKY. The match received a good bit of time (nearly 20 minutes) but with the rest of Damage CTRL and Charlotte Flair at ringside it was only inevitable for them to get involved.

The match reached its conclusion when Bayley put SKY’s foot on the rope. This caused Flair to go after Bayley. SKY took advantage of the help as she hit Asuka with a Meteora to the back of the head followed by the Over the Moonsault to win and retain.

From this we will be getting Flair vs. Bayley next week.

Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre are finally remembered as they had a vignette air. In it shows the fallen competitors who had won the tag team titles and subsequently went out with injuries. They took responsibility for the curse of the tag team titles.

SmackDown Discussion Post: 09.22.23

IMPACT 1000 Concludes With Huge Knockouts Tag Team Main Event

IMPACT 1000 continued this week with what is being hailed as “the greatest fight in Knockouts history” — an all-star five-on-five bout that pitted Knockouts World Champion Trinity, Gail Kim, Awesome Kong, Jordynne Grace, and Mickie James against Angelina Love, Deonna Purrazzo, Tasha Steelz, Gisele Shaw, and Savannah Evans.

Trinity and Love started the bout with back-and-forth action, showcasing some of their signature moves. Grace and Shaw came in next, which led to Mickie James tagging in for a notable staredown with Steelz. Before long, James tagged in Gail Kim, who showed she hadn’t lost a step.

Kim initially tangled with Purrazzo, hitting a flying clothesline and then a crossbody out of the corner. She then took Purrazzo and Shaw down simultaneously, but her momentum was stopped when Velvet Sky yanked her to the floor. Steelz brought Kim back inside and trapped her in a submission briefly.

Gail managed to trap Shaw in the Octopus until Shaw backed her into the corner. Purrazzo grounded Kim with a headlock before they clashed with a double crossbody. From there, Kong and Shaw received tags and the action really broke down.

Kong cleared out Love and Purrazzo before facing off with Evans. Purrazzo and Love attacked Kong from behind, which set up James and Trinity hitting them with double Thesz presses. As more bodies spilled outside, Kim went up top and hit a diving crossbody. Shaw backed into Kong’s backfist. Kong then hit a chokeslam followed by Implant Buster for the win.

Outside the ring, Beautiful People targeted Jai Vidal. Love hit Lethal Injection and then they put a paper bag over his head.

But back inside, as the babyfaces celebrated, James notably eyed Trinity’s Knockouts title.

0

The term “buried” gets thrown around a lot when someone loses a match. Most recently when Becky Lynch returned to NXT and defeated Tiffany Stratton, many fans used that common word – buried.

But how does Stratton feel?

In an interview with WrestlingNewsCo., Stratton had the following to say (h/t Stephanie Hypes) –

“No, not even in the slightest. I feel like even being in the same ring with Becky Lynch just immediately makes my stock go up. I definitely feel like Becky brought out the best in me in that match. And even though I lost the title, I feel like I did not came out with a loss. I feel like I gained so much from one match, even though I lost.”

She also talks about the potential of Jade Cargill joining WWE. You can watch the full interview above.

Saraya Defends Against Toni Storm At AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam

One year ago, Saraya made her AEW debut while Toni Storm was AEW Women’s World Champion. But this year’s edition of AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam saw Saraya defend the AEW Women’s World title against Storm.

Storm made her entrance with a black-and-white filter to couple a new theme song that matches her new persona. The former champ then attempted to hug Saraya to start the bout, but Saraya opted to slap her former partner across the face three times. Storm managed to neutralize Ruby Soho at ringside and used a shoe against Saraya behind the ref’s back, but it wasn’t enough.

After the break, Storm exposed a bottom turnbuckle and grabbed a spray can. Soho snatched it out of her hands and tossed it to Saraya. Saraya sprayed Storm and hit Knight Cap, but Storm kicked out.

Saraya couldn’t bring herself to throw Storm’s face into the turnbuckle despite Ruby telling her to do so. Storm got to her feet and planted a kiss on Saraya’s lips before hitting Storm Zero for another nearfall.

Storm went for the hip attack in the corner, but Saraya moved and Storm hit the exposed turnbuckle. Saraya dropped Storm with one more Knight Cap to retain.

Looking ahead, Friday’s special two-hour edition of AEW Rampage: Grand Slam will include TBS Champion Kris Statlander teaming with Orange Cassidy and HOOK to take on Anna Jay, Angelo Parker, and Matt Menard. Plus, Skye Blue will face Julia Hart.

Extreme Rules Match Set For NXT No Mercy

0

An Extreme Rules Match has been booked for the upcoming NXT No Mercy event on Sept. 30. It will be Becky Lynch defending the NXT Women’s Title against the woman she won it from, Tiffany Stratton.

Lynch kicked off the Sept. 19 episode of NXT. In her promo she named several competitors she seems to want to share the ring with down the road. She then turned her attention to Stratton who would interrupt The Man. Stratton demanded her rematch and said she wanted it tonight. But she was just trolling with the crowd and said she wanted it on a bigger stage at No Mercy.

Lynch had no issue with when and where for the rematch but the two would end up getting physical after trading some more words. Kiana James emerged and sided with Stratton on the beat down to Lynch. Moments later backstage, Lynch interrupted an interview to say she would take on both Stratton and James in a handicap match in the main event.

Before we got to the main event, Lola Vice took on Roxanne Perez. A good showing for Vice who took it to Perez more than The Prodigy would have thought. In the end though, Perez picked up the win. Later in the night, Perez approached Lynch in the locker room.

Lynch gave a lot of praise to Perez which prompted Perez to offer herself as a tag team partner so Lynch didn’t have to face Stratton/James alone. Lynch appreciated the offer but noticed that Perez needed to go ice her shoulder.

In the main event, Lynch was jumped by Stratton/James on the ramp. The match wouldn’t start until after Lyra Valkyria came out to even the numbers. We now had a tag team match. The final moments would witness a ManHandle Slam from Lynch followed by a splash from the top rope by Valkyria to get the pin and the win.

Post match, Stratton brought in a steel chair and took out both Lynch and Valkyria. As Stratton left the ring, Lynch grabbed a mic and declared their match at No Mercy to be an Extreme Rules bout.

Jacy Jayne took Thea Hail shopping for new clothes. There was a lot of leather.

We also got a match next week between Blair Davenport and Gigi Dolin.

Check back in with Diva Dirt for more news and results from the women of NXT.

Further Details On Tegan Nox Being Replaced By Natalya On Raw

0

For those of you who may have missed it, on the Sept. 18 episode of Raw, the newly crowned NXT Women’s Champion Becky Lynch issued an open challenge. News broke that it was to be Tegan Nox who was slated to answer that said challenge. Extremely last minute plans changed it from Nox to Natalya who we saw face Lynch.

Fightful Select provides a bit more details about what took place. Nox hasn’t wrestled on the Raw brand since July 4. Outside of that, she has wrestled three times on Main Event where she ended up last night in a taped match against Xia Li.

Fightful states that Lynch had pushed for Nox to get the match on Raw, but it was ultimately changed. Per their source, Fightful learned that all day, the plan had been for Nox vs. Becky Lynch. However, they were told that about ten minutes before doors opened, the plans changed. Lynch and Nox already had their match laid out, which was to be produced by TJ Wilson.

As for the reason why it was changed, there wasn’t given a reason why. Over the weekend, Fightful also reported that higher ups had been very happy with Natalya working two matches in India. So perhaps that could have played a factor?

There continues to be no creative plans for Nox. As for Lynch continuing with the open challenges it is said to be optimistic that those continue but that could always change.

Becky Lynch Issues Open Challenge On Raw, Natalya Responds

0

Becky Lynch, the hypocritical ginger witch (according to Natalya), issued an open challenge for the NXT Women’s Title on the Sept. 18 episode of Raw. Lynch won the championship last Tuesday by defeating Tiffany Stratton. She now says she wants to elevate the NXT gold, take to new heights.

As a result, Lynch issued an open challenge to someone new, someone who hasn’t had the opportunity, someone who deserves a shot. The challenge was answered by Natalya who wasn’t going to take no for an answer with her 15 years in WWE. Lynch respected the challenge but was expecting someone new to get a shot. This is when Natalya called her the hypocritical ginger witch because Lynch herself went down to NXT and jumped over every woman to snatch the title. This was enough for Lynch to agree to the match.

The final moments of the match saw back and forth roll ups as Lynch would win in the end retaining the gold. Lynch stated she will be ag NXT tomorrow night.

Reports state that it was supposed to be Tegan Nox to answer the open challenge but was bumped for Natalya. Nox in turn faced Xia Li for Main Event tapings while Nikki Cross took on Indi Hartwell.

What do you make of this exchange between Lynch and Natalya? Do you think Lynch should continue holding open challenges?

Nia Jax Continues To Wreak Havoc On The Raw Women’s Division

0

Nia Jax has put all the women of Raw on notice since her dominating WWE return last week. We witnessed Jax take out both Raquel Rodriguez and the Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley.

According to Michael Cole, Rodriguez suffered whiplash from the Samoan Drop while Ripley has suffered bruised ribs from the aNIAlator. With Ripley and Rodriguez already suffering from Jax’s return, Jax appeared on the Sept. 18 episode of Raw ro continue her domination.

A tag team match was well in progress as Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark were taking on the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Chelsea Green and Piper Niven in a non-title match. The match was ruled a no contest as Jax appeared and first took out Niven.

Jax would turn her attention to Stark and then Green. Green tried to escape but to no avail. Finally, Jax turned her attention to Baszler, the woman who broke her arm on her last Raw appearance in 2021. She delivered the aNIAlator on Baszler to wipe out all four women.

As Jax walked up the ramp she said it is open season and the division has been put on notice.

Hoping to see some follow up from this tonight with Fastlane only being a few weeks away.
