In order to consolidate our Eye Candy coverage, we’ve developed a brand new feature: Unwrapped! We’ll take all the new photoshoots from the week and grade (or “brand”) each based on the following criteria:
• Appearance(hair, clothes, makeup.. you get the drift)
• Poses(are they versatile or just glorified statues?)
• Uniqueness(have we seen this photoshoot a billion times before?) Grading scale: Sweet (Great)/Bland (Iffy)/Sour (Awful)
Alissa Flash‘s Untitled Appearance: She’s wearing tow different color variations of her ring gear, with eye paint to match. I gotta say that I love the warrior paint, as it definitely gives her an edge. It’d look silly on other girls, but Alissa’s enough of a badass to pull it off. That, and you don’t see anything but eye shadow or mascara on most female wrestlers’ eyes–it sets her apart, and in a good way. The outfit itself is pretty much your stard ring gear: shorts and a belly-baring top. The leather collar and cuffs spice it up a bit, and add to her hardened look. Leather and grommets on a lot of Divas look silly and forced, but I don’t get that from Alissa. Maybe it’s because she isn’t trout-pouting me to death. She looks like a true badass. Poses: For the meager amount of photos she had, Alissa mixed it up pretty well. The fists and finger point gratefully stay out of the much-treaded “porn poses” territory and keeps with her character. Her evil half-grin is enough to send chills down your spine, no? Uniqueness: It’s certainly nothing you’d see out of a Diva, huh? From the face paint to the serious poses, it’s almost everything the Divas are not. She’s not sexing it up for the sake of a photoshoot, and for that I’m grateful. It’s always a shame to see a Diva depart from her character to show some epic cleavage or do a cheesy pose. Alissa isn’t blending in with this one, that’s for sure. Grade: Sweet. It’s a tiny, tiny photoshoot, but I really like it. Everything’s in keeping with her character, and she’s experimenting with her look enough to make it interesting, but it’s not like we’re not staring at gigantic feathered hairpieces or something equally as awful.

I’m sure you’ve all heard of your ‘five a day’, but Diva Dirt is here to provide you with your ‘five a week’ in our Weekly 5. Join us every Sunday as we take a look back at the week gone by and highlight our top 5 moments of the week.
Note: Let’s be honest, not much going on TV wise this week [Thanks SmackDown!] so I’ve decided to include some of the news stories from the week.
TNA’S LOSS IS ROH’S GAIN
Former TNA Knockout, Nikki Roxx has been snapped up by the folks at ROH and is set to debut at their tapings later this month. The former Roxxi was unceremoniously pink-slipped earlier this year, effectively making her one of the hottest free agents until now!
In the Saturday Supplement, the Diva Dirt team will aim to discuss a news story, a televised event or other relevant and current topics. The objective, like the average weekend newspaper, is to offer more indepth and lengthy discussion.
Since its inception, the TNA Knockouts division has been a burst of fresh air to many who have been soured to the world of women’s wrestling. Over the past years, the TNA Knockouts have opened many eyes to what an ideal women’s division could look like during a time when its popularity was not as its highest. A growing fanbase, a 2-hour syndication, a women’s championship, and a locker room of talented women would seem like the ideal formula for success. However, to every victor goes the spoils, and with the spoils often comes hindrances. TNA has not been without faults over the years, especially when it comes to the Knockouts, yet the company still manages to redeem itself and reserve its spot for quality wrestling. So, does TNA’s booking do more harm than good or do the Knockouts still remain at the top of the food chain?
It’s a staple of tabloid magazines: hard hitting, investigative & highly entertaining! Best & Worst Dressed lists can make or break careers in Hollywood and for a site with ‘Dirt’ in the title, it’s only fitting we take this time tested feature & apply it to our Divas! Each week we’ll bring you the best and worst looks from the week gone by, it’s pretty simple right?
Key: School-like grading scheme
This week saw some cute outfits from the Divas who didn’t wrestle, including a trio from Raw and one from SmackDown.
Kicking off with Kelly Kelly, complete with Jeremy ‘Mercury Poisoning’ Piven’s arm over her lap. Yes, it looks like a poser-y Juicy Couture dress but what else to expect from young K2? It still looks pretty good on her. C
Raw’sRosa Mendesknows black is her colour and looked hot from the tiny side glimpse we saw of her. Those legs! C
Adding some colour t0 the room wasAlicia Fox, in a flowery strapless dress. It’s probably the weakest of the three looks but it was decent by Diva standards. C-
Former Women’s Champion, Melinasure does love the off-the-shoulder look, huh? Nonetheless, I liked her ethnic patterned red top, it reminds me of my mom’s native Morocco. C
To play off the simmering feud between Alissa Flash and Sarita as well as last week’s encounter between Traci Brooks and Taylor Wilde, last night’s TNA Impact set the tone for a respective heel vs. face tag team match.
Traci Brooks and Taylor Wilde start off the match with Taylor embracing Traci from behind and tossing her over with an arm drag. Taylor runs the ropes and cartwheels over Traci, leading her into a second arm drag and a kick to the midsection. Traci counters an Irish Whip which sends Taylor to the corner. Traci suffers another stiff kick to the ribs and Taylor sets her up for an innovative flip off of the top turnbuckle. Traci exits the ring to collect herself and soon tags in Alissa Flash.
Taylor and Alissa begin to get a feel for each other through a series of discouraged offense, but before any chemistry between them can be further explored, Taylor tags in Sarita. Alissa delivers a kick and a chop, but Sarita counters with a headscissors takedown. She then avenges Alissa’s chops in the corner. Alissa follows Sarita into the opposite corner where Sarita flips her over with a springboard arm drag. While Alissa and Traci catch a breather on the outside, Sarita, with an assist from Taylor Wilde, delivers an awe-inspiring diving crossbody to their opposition onto the floor. As TNA takes another look, Sarita’s fluidity is aptly deemed by Don West as “poetry in motion.”
We can all agree that, with a few exceptions, Divas get the short end of the stick when comes to entrance themes. While the male superstars get music from actual bands and artists or custom made songs with lyrics, Divas get stuck with crappy production music. If I had the chance I would change all the Divas music to something a little… well, better. Hence, Diva B-Sides was born; a Diva Dirt exclusive where we match WWE Divas and TNA Knockouts with new entrance themes. This week, I tag with Melanie once again to find some B-Sides for SmackDown’s dark horse, Eve Torres:
STEVEN’S PICK: “WORK (DIVA DIRT MIX)” BY THE SATURDAYS
I’ve never been a fan of Eve’s entrance theme. It seems like the production team just did a eeny-meeny-miney-mo when they picked a theme for her. As she continues to rise through the ranks of WWE, I think she needs a new theme that better suits her character.
As a former dancer, I think the best choice for Eve would be an up-tempo, hip-hop track. I had not originally chosen ‘Work’ for Eve’s B-Side, but the more I listened to it, the more it seemed to fit her. I truly think that coming down to the ring to a track like this would really help to bring some sass and personality out of this rookie Diva.
NOTE: I edited this track (badly) to the exact version that I would use for Eve’s theme. Enjoy!
[audio:EveWork.mp3]
MELANIE’S PICK: ‘DANCE BAILALO” BY KAT DELUNA
It might seem a bit stereotypical to pick a latin track for one of WWE’s resident Latina, but I have to agree with Melanie’s choice. Like ‘Work’, ‘Dance Bailalo’ has a upbeat rhythm that would definately fit Eve. Maybe she could get in touch with her roots and incorporate some ‘Latina Heat’ into her entrance.
I also think that this song could work for Rosa Mendes, because Lord knows she’s in need of a new theme.
[audio:dancekat.mp3]
So what do you guys think? Do these tracks make you wanna dance or die? Let us know in the comments and vote for what B-Side you think is the best.
We’ve heard from a source that there is once again interest from TNA in hiring former WWE Women’s Champion, Jazzaka Carlene Begnaud. The ECW alumna has fallen off the radar in the past year or so but it’s understood that she gave birth to her first child with husband, Rodney Mack late last year/early this year.
It seems TNA is reaching out to those who may know Carlene in order to contact her about coming into the company.
Last year it was revealed that the position of ‘problem solver’ for the Beautiful People, which was held for a short period by Mickie Knuckles, was originally intended for Jazz.

There have been murmurings of this for some time now, but the official ROH on HDNet Twitter has confirmed that the former Roxxi – Nikki Roxx – has joined Ring of Honor.
Nikki is set to start with the company at their tapings this month.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, any plans for Divas matches at SummerSlam were scrapped last Friday in a creative meeting that saw most of the show retooled.
The Observer notes that the two likely matches, both rematches from Night of Champions were seemingly dropped. In the case of Raw’s Mickie James vs Maryse, due to the former Divas Champion’s injury. Coincidentally, the Women’s Championship match between Melinaand Michelle McCoolwas also supposedly dropped — though not due to Michelle’s supposed injury, as it occured on the same evening and was probably unbeknownst to those in the meeting.
I can’t say I’m surprised, Divas matches have always been an afterthought at SummerSlam and I wasn’t holding my breath for a match on the show to be honest.
Fresh off the heels of the Volume 23 release, SHIMMER has released the box and disc art for Volume 24. SHIMMER stepped into new territory, giving their roster a technicolor makeover.
I gotta say, I’m loving the anime-style of the cover. Very creative and unique. I’m especially feeling Awesome Kong‘s fangs and red eyes. I’m sure she’ll find that amusing. My only complaint is the live action Madison Eagles on the spine. Must be a work in progress.
Along with the box art, the SHIMMER office had stated: “Look for it to be released by Ring Of Honor in the next three weeks”. Yes, you read that correctly. In the next three weeks. Wow SHIMMER, you don’t waste any time. At this rate we’ll be at Volume 26 before the Christmas. Read the official announcement here.
Like the SHIMMER girls in chibi form? Hate it? Vote below and leave your thoughts in the comments.
UPDATE: Due to conflicting schedules with contracted TNA Knockouts, the taping had to be postponed. As a result, SHIMMER will be having a double taping for Volumes 27 & 28 on Sunday, November 8th. More details as they become available.
Cold sweats? Uncontrollable shaking? Whispering things like “Sara Del Rey” and “MsChif” in your sleep? Sounds like SHIMMER withdrawal to me. But don’t fear, Dr. Steven has just the thing to fix you up. How about a two day, four volume taping in October? Here’s the press release:
SHIMMER – WOMEN ATHLETES returns to live action on Saturday & Sunday, October 24th & 25th, 2009 at the Berwyn Eagles Club (6309 26th Street) in Berwyn, IL, just outside Chicago. Bell time each day will be 2pm Central. Each day of taping will conclude by 8pm Central.
The October 24th & 25th weekend festivities will celebrate SHIMMER’s 4th Anniversary! Volumes 27, 28, 29, and 30 will be filmed over the course of the two days of tapings. We will have an after party both nights at Michael Anthony’s Restaurant & Bar in Berwyn as well.
Front row reserved seating for the entire SHIMMER 4th Anniversary Weekend events (all four full length DVDs) will be available at a cost of $100 per seat, and will go on sale on Thursday evening, July 23rd at 7pm Central time. Mark your calendars, and make your plans to be there live and in person for SHIMMER’s 4th Anniversary Weekend, October 24th & 25th in Berwyn!
Discuss the SHIMMER 4th Anniversary Weekend in the following thread at The SHIMMER Forum…
There you have it, guys. If you’re in the area, try to get tickets. I guarantee you won’t regret it. In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for Volume 23. Thoughts in the comments please.
ReelWrestling.com is notorious for getting the candid scoop on WWE Superstars. Seeing as most of their footage features superstars entering or leaving an event, many a time the reaction from the wrestlers is less than cordial. However, it is extremely interesting to see just how they interact with the paparazzi outside of the ring. Reel Wrestling has filmed Divas by the likes of Lilian Garcia, Katie Lea, The Bella Twins, Maryse and Jillianin the past with typical (albeit sometimes fleeting) success, but it is their recent candid video of Roucka aka Rosa Mendes that has especially piqued my interest.
From reelwrestling.com:
Dean Malenko cast a grey shadow over an otherwise sunny day in Buffalo by getting in our face and demanding we shut off the video camera. After our camera man tried to enlighten Rosa that her swarming fans were none too adoring (her real fans are the ones who buy her photos on eBay from those same airport fanatics who surround her at the baggage checks), “tough guy” Dean tried to play the role of enforcer but what he asked us to do on public property was clearly a violation of our rights. And thanks to him, he altered Rosa’s mood so much that she shoved her cell phone in our face as she exited as if WE were the enemy! Rosa, we just want to promote your attractive face and sunny disposition, along with any message you want to get out to your fan base (by the way, if anyone wants to translate her message, please leave a comment below). And, please tell Dean to relax and back off the next time. We’re not the enemy and it seems that the gorgeous and cheerful Kelly Kelly was the only one in your group who “got it” that day.
Spoilers for this Friday’s SmackDown are online. The show will air August 7th. Highlight below to read:
*Backstage, Maria and Melina talked about Maria’s relationship with Dolph. Melina said she was happy for Maria but she hears bad things about Ziggler in the locker room. Maria says the Dolph in the ring isn’t how he is outside of it and he treats her good. Melina said she was happy for her but to be careful. [Source: PWInsider.com]
ROHwrestling.com has officially released SHIMMER Volume 23 on DVD today. The DVD features the main event of MsChif defending the SHIMMER Championship against newly signed WWE developmental talent,Serena Deeb. Also featured on the DVD is Cheerleader Melissa against Wesna Busic, in what I’ve heard is an incredible match.
You can also listen to our Diva Dirt Roundtable sponsored by Volume 23 a couple of weeks ago, by clicking here or downloading it through iTunes. We will announce the winner of Volume 23 competition in this week’s show!
This week on an all new Roundtable, the Diva Dirt team will be discussing WWE, TNA and a lot more! Join us as usual, on Thursday. But in the meantime, have your say on your topics:
Please try to keep them short and sweet — just one sentence, so we can read out as many comments as possible.
WWE Topic: “Women’s Champion, Michelle McCool was hurt over the weekend with her status as of yet unknown. As the current reigning champion, how can SmackDown overcome this setback?”
[Please note: We will know more about Michelle’s status following tonight’s taping, so this topic is subject to change.]
TNA Topic: “TNA seemingly has an unprecedented four Knockouts feuds in the works [Kong-Tara, ODB-Beautiful People, Alissa-Sarita & Taylor-Traci]. Can they do all four feuds justice? And which is most interesting?”
We are also going to do a segment where we answer your questions about anything and everything, from wrestling to random stuff! If you have a question for Melanie, Erin, Steven or Tiffany, just leave it in a comment and make sure you state who your question is for! Whether it be an opinion on a certain Diva or if you just want to know what their favourite sandwich filling is!
Remember: Keep your comments brief, one sentence is best. I’m being serious about this, last week we got huge paragraphs from some of you and bear in mind, I have to read this out and it gets tongue-twistery. I know it’s hard to say what you want to say in a line or two, but it’s important to keep your comments brief so we can read them out.
Please copy and paste and the form below into the comments box, to best help us! Feel free to leave any field blank if you don’t want to answer:

Question for Melanie/Steven/Erin/Tiffany (delete as applicable):
Don’t forget to join us on Thursday for the Roundtable!
It’s the old age tale of the WWE women’s division — ‘creative amnesia’. You know, that thing where they do something and then don’t follow it up the next week & go in a whole new direction and expect us to forget everything we saw the week before? Or if we’re lucky, they’ll expect us to remember by picking up that thing we saw that one time weeks later and expect it to make sense even though it hasn’t been mentioned in like a month. Sound familiar?
You could’ve missed last week’s show altogether and not know anything signifcant happened by the looks of this week’s show. Despite some friction between new Divas Champion, Mickie James and Gail Kim, the two paired up this week and looked the best of friends with nary a mention or even a replay of last week. Meanwhile, ‘The Glamazon’ Beth Phoenix looks to return to form now French Fry is out of the way, as she teamed up with the returning Jillian[who got her last name back, anyone notice?] in a powerful winning effort over the fellow former Women’s Champions.
So, where to begin… let us start with the wrestling. First of all, it was great to see this week go to the wrestlers of the division, as much as I like Alicia Fox and have an indifference towards Kelly and Kelly and Rosa Mendes — it was just refreshing to see the shine on the trained pros. Like last week, we kicked off with Gail and Beth, these two showed some good chemistry last week and carried that over well this week. Gail’s agility versus Beth’s powerhousing makes for an interesting combo, as I have likened it to the matches between Gail and Awesome Kong in TNA. Not to say their matches would be on par due to WWE’s limitations on the women, but I’m sure they could push the envelope for the Divas. Beth plays the tough bully, pushing Gail who fights back with a slap and then takes Beth off her feet before tagging out to Mickie.
Some nice action between these two, though I gotta be honest, I have never loved their in-ring work together. Their singles matches have always felt a little blah to me. Mickie hits a Lou Thesz press from the top before Beth comes back and hits a nice guillotine on the top rope and powers over Mickie. And in comes the returning Jillian Hall; Jillian hits throws Mickie’s face down on the canvas Maryse style, I like it. Mickie begins to fight back and hits a headscissors before getting a hot tag on Gail…
It’s time for the ‘Gail Force’, you ready? Two clotheslines, the launch through the ropes in the corner, followed by the jump on Jillian followed be a missile dropkick. We really need technical names for these moves. Gail then loses focus and ends up on the middle rope courtesy of Jillian followed by an elbow to the jaw — you could hear that one, Gail sells it really well. Into the finish now as Jillian goes for the handspring, Gail manages to move out of the way and goes for her ‘Eat Defeat’ move but Beth comes in for an awesome Glam Slam and gets the 3 count. Good match with a great finish from Beth.
As for the story, well there didn’t seem to be much. Following last week, there was no play between Gail and Mickie. It seemed straight up ‘Bethfest’, setting her up for a title shot against Beth perhaps. There’s a lot of stuff that’s unexplained and a lot of stuff that they could’ve done but didn’t do. There are a number of theories; it could be that they’ve dropped Gail-Mickie and are going for the straight face-vs-heel feud with Beth. In which case, I can’t say I’m at all checking for another Beth-Mickie feud after being unimpressed last year by it. Or as some have suggested, the Mickie-Gail underlying feud could be ‘slow burning’. If so, they could easily have inserted something into this segment that told us that there is an underlying issue there — that’s what any good television writer would do. But then again, good writing and WWE don’t often go together. I’m unsure where this is going, if anywhere. I was excited at the prospect of a Gail-Mickie feud but like I said, they should have teased that underlying storyline otherwise how are we to know there is one? It just seemed as though they had ignored everything that occured last week.
Mind you, WWE could dredge this all up somewhere down the line as they often do with their hit-and-miss booking. One week they’ll have a storyline, the next week they won’t and then the week after they’ll go back to that storyline and expect you to know what’s going on. So confusing.
As far as I’m concerned the jury’s out, I’m not going to anticipate something that may or may not happen. We’ll have to wait and see what they choose to do, but let’s just say they’ve managed to deflate the momentum they gained last week.
It has been reported that Mickie Knuckles aka Moose is, indeed, set on returning to TNA. Just one year ago, Mickie broke her right femur bone during an attempted stage dive onto Sara Del Rey at a IWA Mid South event in Joliet, Illinois. She has undergone a successful leg surgery since then. It is now anticipated that Mickie could very well make a comeback. Mickie Knuckles made her TNA Impact! television debut on June 5, 2008 as the muscle behind the Beautiful People.
The possibility of her return leaves me to question just what could be in store for Moose in TNA. The addition of Madison Rayne into Mi Pi Sexy doesn’t leave much room for additional member. However, with TNA’s newly acquired Knockout initiave, Moose could benefit from the sea of credible singles competitors such as Alissa Flash, Sarita, and Ayako Hamada. Titanium rod and all.
Roundup of news/notes from our downtime yesterday due to the server move:
– As we first reported on our Twitter account, Lilian Garcia has updated her schedule through MySpace — revealing that her final night with WWE will be the August 24th episode of Raw, which is the night after SummerSlam. SummerSlam, the 23rd of August, will mark Lilian’s 10 year anniversary with WWE.
– Michelle McCool, though hurt on Friday night, isn’t expected to miss any ring time. Apparently the injury wasn’t as severe as first thought. We’ll see what direction they take after tomorrow night’s SmackDown taping.
We have moved to a new, hopefully permanent home! We are pleased to reveal that we have joined the Female Fight League family, joining such sites and promotions as ChickFight, ClickWrestle and Online World of Wrestling to name a few. A big thank you to the wonderful Jason Deadrich for inviting us into the network and for facilitating our move!
What does this mean for you? Joining the Female Fight League family gives us even more exposure to women’s wrestling fans around the world and exclusive access to the stars of ChickFight, plus we are also hoping to give Diva Dirt readers discounts on matches at ClickWrestle. Stay tuned for more on all of this!
We are so excited to celebrate another milestone in our 18 month history! We also have a few other site related announcements below:
Roundtable on iTunes: In another huge piece of news for Diva Dirt, we are extremely excited to reveal that the Diva Dirt Roundtable is now available for download on iTunes! You can download all past episodes of the Roundtable for FREE through iTunes and put it on your iPod/iPhone or just listen to it through iTunes. The Diva Dirt Roundtable has so far recorded 4 episodes, all filled with discussion about all aspects of women’s wrestling. The length of each episode varies between 45 minutes to an hour; last week’s episode was actually one hour and 15 minutes! Roundtable on iTunes »
50 Sexiest Divas 2009: Voting for the second annual 50 Sexiest Divas closed on Friday. We were hoping to begin the results this week but due to the move and some other stuff, we have decided to push back the results so that they can take center-stage at a later date. Right now, I feel they’d get lost in the shuffle and deserve a lot of attention. We have pushed back our big summer feature to coincide with WWE’s big summer pay per view, SummerSlam — makes sense right? Results will begin on the week of August 17th.
That Big Announcement: For the past week we have been teasing that we have a major announcement to make. We were supposed to make the announcement on August 1st [Saturday], but due to the move we have pushed it back to today! Stay tuned later today for full details…
Diva Dirt reader, @OohOui on Twitter attended the Raw house show last night in White Plains, NY and passed along the following live videos of the Divas match. It was the team of Gail Kim, Kelly Kelly and Mickie James in a winning effort against Alicia Fox, Beth Phoenix and Rosa Mendes.
I’m sure you’ve all heard of your ‘five a day’, but Diva Dirt is here to provide you with your ‘five a week’ in our Weekly 5. Join us every Sunday as we take a look back at the week gone by and highlight our top 5 moments of the week.
RAW IS GAIL?
There has been a lot of talk this week about a Gail Kim heel turn and as a Diva Dirt favourite, we are extremely excited about the possibility in the coming weeks on Raw. It looks as though Maryse‘s loss [to injury] could be Gail’s gain; as WWE teased tension between Gail and new Divas Champion, Mickie James on Raw.
