Ask the Divas: Episode 4

5

This week, former Women’s Champions Gail Kim and Beth Phoenix tell fans why they decided to become wrestlers…

Beth is so cute in real life! She’s also got that fun humor that helped Trish Stratus during her career; I am convinced Beth would be a great babyface if they allowed her to speak.

Michelle McCool Update: Did Not Wrestle Saturday Night But Did Appear

6

In an update to the injury story on Michelle McCool, the Women’s Champion was legitimately hurt last night in Hampton Beach, NH in her match with Eve Torres. Apparently her left knee buckled underneath her at some point during the match.

There’s no update on the severity of the issue; it could be just a freak accident and she could wrestle tonight which she is scheduled to do so. We should know more soon.

UPDATE #2 (Erin): According to PWInsider.com, Michelle was kept out of the ring tonight as a precautionary measure:

As it turned out, WWE Divas champion Michelle McCool was kept out of the ring at tonight’s house show in Bethlehem, PA as a precautionary measure. She was originally listed on the lineup backstage as facing Melina. Melina wrestled Katie Burchill instead.

I’d like to think that this means she isn’t seriously injured and is just sitting out until SmackDown’s tapings, but we won’t know for sure until Tuesday.

UPDATE #3: House show reports have surfaced on last night’s show. Michelle was in attendance though was kept off due to the injury she suffered the night before. Report from F4W Online:

Melina pinned Katie Lea Burchill w/a bridge off the reversal of a schoolgirl…just before the finish, Michelle McCool came out to the top of the entranceway noticeably limping…taunting Melina w/the Women’s Title belt

Saturday Supplement: How Long is Too Long?

15

saturdaysupplement

In the Saturday Supplement, the Diva Dirt team will aim to discuss a news story, a televised event or other relevant and current topics. The objective, like the average weekend newspaper, is to offer more indepth and lengthy discussion.

Some may have thought that the Women’s Championship match at Night of Champions signaled the end of the feud between Melina and Michelle McCool. Some may have even been hoping for that. However, for better or for worse, the feud isn’t stopping just yet. After upstaging the more hyped match last Sunday, Melina and Michelle are still showing the fire and intensity of a brand new feud, despite having been foes for nearly 3 months. They obviously haven’t had enough of each other just yet, but some fans aren’t feeling quite as content. Calls for its end or complaints about this “never-ending feud” have got me wondering: when it comes to Diva feuds, how long is too long?

The WWE has seen its fair share of extended feuds. The likes of Triple H, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena, and even Edge have participated in slow-burning feuds that spanned months and headlined PPV after PPV. But when it comes to Divas, those examples are few and far between. One could say that Lita and Trish Stratus feuded for quite some time, but with that we aren’t talking about a constantly-running feud. In between their battles were moments of comradery and truces, so I wouldn’t quite count that as a “long-running” feud, but more so a career-long love/hate relationship. So, what could be considered a long feud in Diva-dom? Read on and speculate with me.

Another feud, also connected to Trish Stratus, is the epic “obsessive fan” feud between her and Mickie James. It commenced on October 10th, 2005, and through the twists and turns, it lasted all the way until Backlash 2006, precisely April 30th, 2006. Doing the math, the feud lasted a total of 171 days. Now, it may not be fair to compare it to the Melina/Michelle feud, as this was a full-blown storyline, complete with the introduction of a brand new Diva, an awkward friendship, a slow heel turn, and finally commencing with a more standard heel/face feud at WrestleMania and Backlash. This was much more than a simple feud, and simply cannot be duplicated without some major groundwork being laid. In this day and age, with the WWE running on a surplus of Divas, I can’t see anything like that happening again in the near future. In fact, the feud only ended when Stratus dislocated her shoulder and was forced on to the disabled list. Who knows how long this could have gone without her injury?

In the Diva Dirt Fantasy League, you pick 3 Divas/Knockouts from each of the 3 brands [Raw, SmackDown/ECW and TNA] and follow them through the Fantasy League season; you earn points if they wrestle, win a match etc.

This first season will take place through the month of August as sort of a test run for future seasons! Each week, we will post the leaderboard of users, the person that ranks #1 by the end of August will win a prize to be determined.

So how do you get involved? Read the rules below and then after the cut, check out the Divas/Knockouts available to pick from as well as read our points system & sign up!

– In the event of a tie, the prize will be split between the joint #1 ranking users.
– Diva Dirt staff may not take part.
– In the event of an injury/suspension or something extraordinary that puts a girl on the shelf, users will be given 3 options: They may substitute the Diva/Knockout with an alternative from the same category, keep in mind that your combination must still be unique so as not to clash with another user. Alternatively, you may opt to continue the season with just two picks or withdraw from the league altogether.

Diva B-Sides: Jenna Morasca

0

We can all agree that, with a few exceptions, Divas get the short end of the stick when comes to entrance themes. While the male superstars get music from actual bands and artists or custom made songs with lyrics, Divas get stuck with crappy production music. If I had the chance I would change all the Divas music to something a little… well, better. Hence, Diva B-Sides was born; a Diva Dirt exclusive where we match WWE Divas and TNA Knockouts with new entrance themes. This week’s lucky girl is Jenna Morasca, who’s in desperate need of an emergency B-Side. Let’s get right into things:

Jenna1

PICK #1: “SURVIVOR” BY DESTINY’S CHILD

I don’t have to tell you guys that Jenna’s current theme is a masterpiece, do I? A pure piece of musical genius! *COUGH* But seriously, the only thing worse than Jenna’s match at Victory Road was her entrance theme. Therefore, I decided to give Ms. Morasca a Diva B-Side intervention.

I think it was obvious that TNA was trying to tie in Jenna’s history on ‘Survivor’ when they made her theme: “I will, I will survive!!!” While their efforts were admirable, it came off as some sort of weird gospel/disco hybrid that split the audience between laughing and cringing.

If TNA wanted to go the ‘Survivor’ route, the obvious choice would be this song by DC3 or something similar. Not only does it fit the theme, it’s a great song overall. The fact that it doesn’t make me want to stab myself in the ears with the nearest pointy object is an added plus.

[audio:DC3SurvivorJenna.mp3]

Pick #2: “WHEN I GROW UP”  BY MAYDAY PARADE

If Jenna did anything right at Victory Road, it was selling sex. Everything from her Beautiful People-esque entrance to that awkward, hard to watch pin, Jenna oozed sexuality (or skankiness depending on who you ask). So what’s the musical equivalent to that, you ask? The Pussycat Dolls, of course!

To be honest, I don’t really care for the PCD version of this song, so I picked a cover done by the Florida based band, Mayday Parade. This version has a little more edge than the original, but keeps the catchiness that makes it such a popular track.

So what do you think? Are you pressing ‘repeat’ or ‘delete’? Let us know in the comments and vote for what B-Side you think is the best.

Michelle McCool Reportedly Injured

26

michelle5

Women’s Champion Michelle McCool may have been injured last night after a house show match in Hampton Beach, MA with Eve Torres.

Reports say McCool took a bump to the outside and didn’t get up. The match was ruled a no contest and two parademics helped the Women’s Champ to the back.

Conflicting reports suggest a second referee came out to ringside, checked on Michelle and threw up an ‘X’ sign.

We’ll keep you updated as things develop.

The Week in Fashion: Best & Worst Dressed for August 1st, 2009

26

bestworstdressed

It’s a staple of tabloid magazines: hard hitting, investigative & highly entertaining! Best & Worst Dressed lists can make or break careers in Hollywood and for a site with ‘Dirt’ in the title, it’s only fitting we take this time tested feature & apply it to our Divas! Each week we’ll bring you the best and worst looks from the week gone by, it’s pretty simple right?

best

best_1aug09
Key: School-like grading scheme

It wasn’t a great week for Diva/Knockout fashion this past week. So I guess I’m clutching at straws with my ‘Best’ picks for the week, but congrats to Melina, Gail Kim and Michelle McCool anyway.

Big pay per view match usually means new attire for our Divas, as we saw at Night of Champions when Melina wore what I think was a new variation of her usual ring-wear. The maroon coloured tights are a nice addition to her wardrobe which ranges the rainbow already. C

As for Raw Diva, Gail Kim, her usual off-the-shoulder tops and shorts were back this week in silver. Again not out of the norm for G-Kim but I liked it in silver. C

Last but finally not least is Michelle McCool, who busted out a new colour much like Melina for their PPV match. Michelle is one of those girls that not every colour suits, so the colour choice could have gone wrong here… but thankfully, it didn’t. I would go as far as to say this is probably Michelle’s most flattering variation yet, green seems to suit her exquisitely. B-

This week’s ‘Worst’ after the cut:

SmackDown Redux (July 31st, 2009) – But Wait, There’s More!

39

To almost everyone, Melina and Michelle‘s match at Night of Champions exceeded expectations. Realistically, it would be tough to top that, and with the WWE’s tendency to follow up gold with crap, it’s pretty likely that this week’s SmackDown would disappoint. But does it? Are they continuing the Michelle/Melina feud, or are they moving on? Let’s take a look and see for ourselves:

As Melina makes her way to the ring, Michelle hightails it, demonstrating more of that “cowardly heel” shtick that I kind of wish they’d drop. Still, it’s great to see them keep up appearances and showing that things between them are far from over, with Michelle waving her title in Melina’s face like a T-bone to a cartoon pooch. Oh yeah, and Eve and Layla are there too. I couldn’t help but notice during Eve’s entrance that she got a really nice pop. Like, surprisingly good. It could just be canned cheers, but I was pretty impressed.

Layla and Melina start the match, and as they grapple for a moment, it’s clear that Melina has no interest in this opponent. She quickly disposes of Layla and turns for Michelle, who darts away. Layla takes advantage of this distraction to attack her, getting a bit of offense in before Melina takes her drown with an arm drag and tags in Eve. The two do a nice double-team move before Melina runs out of the ring at the referee’s protests (quite a change from her heel days, no?). Eve them performs quite a labored scoop slam (holding for applause?) for a two-count. Eve hits a dropkick, and some awkward exchanges later, Eve ends up on the second rope at the turnbuckle, her back to a standing Layla. Wait, what was she setting up for? Layla seems to be just as perplexed, kicking Eve and sending her to the mat. Layla tags in Michelle, who manhandles Eve a bit, a leg drop earning her a two-count.

The Tiffany Guide to Impact: Strange Bedfellows

tnaimpact073009

This week on Impact provided a six-Knockout tag match, pitting Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, and Madison Rayne against the likes of ODB, Awesome Kong, and Victoria. As well as an interview with former-Knockouts champion, Victoria.

Interestingly enough, Victoria is announced to be accompanied by tarantula, Poison, which has become an entity of its own. As the commentators get a little flustered over the Beautiful People’s entrance, I have to say that I have been loving Kong’s expressions as of late. The look of disinterest on her face at the start of the match is priceless.

Victoria and Angelina start off the match with a lock up, and Victoria delivers a series of open-handed punches. A run through the ropes and Victoria knocks down the Knockouts champion. Velvet Sky and Madison Rayne attempt to make the save, but Victoria takes the fight to them, as well. Angelina takes advantage of the distraction and blindsights her opponent. Angelina opts to run the ropes, but Victoria takes her down with a powerslam. She goes for the cover until the Beautiful People break up the count. ODB and Kong clear out the ring and the action breaks loose. In the meantime, Victoria resorts to some dirty tactics against Angelina as a source of expressing her pent-up resentment. Victoria delivers a scoop slam to Angelina, who soon scurries away just in time to tag in Madison. Victoria outsmarts Madison and quickly takes her down with a drop toehold before tagging in ODB. ODB lunges Madison into the corner and slams chest-first into her. She then sets Madison up for a fallaway slam, followed by a kip-up. TNA, with their now usual tendency of cutting to break during their Knockout matches, fades to commercial.

Maryse Out for 3 Months

6

maryse5

WWE’s resident French fry, Maryse is said to be on the shelf for 3 months. That would put her medical clearance for November.

There are two different routes they could go, factoring in some time to work out and get ring-ready, they could bring her back in a post-Survivor Series spot as with Melina last year. That is dependent on how quickly Maryse can shake off the ring rust and feel confident in the ring.

The other option would be to keep Maryse off until 2010. December is usually a slow month for WWE, with a Tribute to the Troops and fewer shows. It could make more sense to bring her back fresh in the New Year.

Mickie’s Got Something to Hide

8

Mickie James in “Golden Girl”

Diva Dirt’s dishing up your regular serving of Eye Candy! View the photoshoot we’ve “hung” on our wall, read our critique, vote, and last but not least – sound off in the comments.

The Look: Mickie’s hiding behind what looks like a locker, so we don’t really get a good look at what she’s wearing, but it’s clearly the outfit she wore a few weeks ago on Raw, so I’ll judge it from that. with a better look, we can see that Mickie’s wearing a skimpy little top (reminiscent of the Little Mermaid’s shell bikini?) that looks mighty shiny and tiny. It doesn’t look bad on her at all—it fits her body well and the color’s nice—but I can’t think of any situation outside of a wrestling show or photoshoot that that top wouldn’t look like part of a stripper’s ensemble. I guess you could say that about a lot of what the Divas wear.. Hm… Anywho, as for the rest of the look, Mickie keeps it simple, wearing black trousers and heels. She balances out the skimpiness of the top by wearing full-length pants, and with that escapes looking completely trashy. Her necklace and bracelets go with the top perfectly, the dark metals accenting it well. That, along with the cool tones in the makeup, creates a look that is both sexy and a bit rock-n-roll, a bit of a departure from bright-and-sunny Mickie that we’ve come to know. Grade: B+

The Poses: Pretty much the whole shoot involves her posing behind something, so there’s only so much to do. It’s cool and different, though, and adds a bit of mystique. She looks both sexy and alluring, and almost a little scary. Maybe I have a thus-unknown fear of the dark, but it looks a little spooky behind her, all dark and shadowy. Hell, it makes the shoot that much more interesting, I guess. Grade: A

Uniqueness: The posing is certainly different, compared to all the in-your-face posing the Divas often do. Partially obscuring a Diva behind an object isn’t something they often do, and gives the photoshoot a more artistic vibe. That, and the look Mickie’s sporting is something we don’t usually see her in—such dark tones—so the shoot is bit out of the ordinary in several senses. Grade: A

Overall: The top is just about the only thing I’m not fond of, but everything else in the shoot works so well that I’m able to look past it. It’s definitely not your usual Mickie James shoot, but I like it. Maybe she should get serious more often. Grade: A

Knockout Comments on Victory Road… and It’s Not Jenna!

10

sharmell1

With all the talk over the past couple of weeks about what is being described as the worst match in TNA history, Jenna vs Sharmell at Victory Road, you’d think there was only one person in the match — Jenna Morasca. After all, she’s been the one doing all the talking… until now.

Jenna’s opponent, industry veteran Sharmell piped in with her thoughts on a recent stint on the Monday Night Mayhem radio show. And it seems as though Sharmell shares much of the same opinion as her former foe:

Actually that’s my first time hearing it, because I hadn’t heard any critique on that. We’ve been working ever since Victory Road, so I hadn’t heard any of the feedback of that, but if they think it was the ‘worst match,’ that’s great. All publicity is good publicity, so at least they are still talking about me. Even though I didn’t get the pin, I was obviously the most-experienced, the one who was able to handle herself the best in the ring, & got the better of Jenna throughout the match. So let them keep talking…any news is good news.

You can’t polish a turd, Sharmell.

Live Report From Last Night’s SmackDown

Diva Dirt reader Rob sent along the following live report from the show. As it hasn’t aired yet, it’s in spoiler tags, so please highlight to read:

I attended this match and noticed a few things. It was a very short match. I don’t think it lasted 3 minutes, if that. The ring entrances and exits were much quicker than what they have done before. The entire match was so short entrance to exit that I could not get my camera batteries changed before they left the ring. As for the match itself, all 4 performers got a few moments in the ring, but again the whole thing seemed very rushed. The ending was Melina pinning Michelle, it looks like they are going to continue the fued thorugh SummerSlam. As for the crowd, Melina got a very loud pop nearly as loud as the one Mickie James got on Raw. Michelle’s was average. But apart from that, the crowd was somewhat indifferent during it.

Maryse Says She’s ‘Bionic’ & Comments on Fan Response

8

maryse4

Everyone’s favourite French fry, Maryse signalled that she is A-OK after surgery yesterday in Birmingham, AL. yesterday by writing that she’s ‘bionic’ on her Twitter page.

In a later tweet, I’m guessing she is responding to fan response/criticism to her match at Night of Champions and/or her injury. She writes:

to WWE univers good morning, in good or bad u see u all stil talk write and dream about me! have a good day haha The sexiest of Sexy

Translation: “To [the] WWE Universe, good morning. In good or bad, you all still talk, write and dream about me. Have a good day, haha!” Good = support for her injury? Bad = criticism to her match on Sunday?

I’m sure her tweets are in character [somewhat anyway] but it’s nice to see that she’s doing well after her surgery. In the face of a major surgery, she hasn’t she humbled? That’s our Maryse ♥

50sexiestdivas2009

There are just 3 days left to vote for your favourite Diva(s) in 50 Sexiest Divas 2009! Last week I gave you an update on how things are shaping up, well this will be my second and final update!

I can now reveal that the results of 50 Sexiest Divas 2009 will be revealed next week! The countdown will be spread over 5 days beginning Monday, August 3rd — with 50-41, 40-31 on Tuesday and so forth! Next Friday we will reveal the top 10!

Okay so for time for a second teaser update…

Last week I noted that it was a four Diva affair for the top; two Divas from SmackDown and two Divas from Raw. Well I can now reveal that one of those SmackDown Divas has dropped in the past week and has been overtaken by a Raw Diva and a certain legend.

So the probability is high for a Raw Diva to take the #1 spot, as three Divas from the red brand are vying for the ‘Sexiest Diva 2009’ crown against just one SmackDown Diva!

Remember you can keep voting for 50 Sexiest Divas until this Friday!

An Open Letter to Jenna Morasca

10

In the past 24 hours I have watched ‘Jennagate‘ unfold and decided not to add comment. But having read her long blog yesterday and having just now, read another comment from her, I want to use this space to offer Jenna some advice. So those of you who have access to her MySpace, please feel free to pass on this message from Diva Dirt.

Jenna,

As someone on national television every single week, you have become a public figure. And as a public figure, you are bound to be criticised. It’s not something new & it’s not something only limited to the wrestling industry. I can understand the need to defend yourself, but sometimes it’s better not to say anything at all.

I’m sure you realise that your signing to TNA is a controversial subject, as you readily admit, you are not a wrestler. I’m sure you feel that there is an unfair pressure on you because of your background — or lack thereof, but you have been in the entertainment industry long before you started with TNA. I can only assume that you surely must have faced criticism from audiences before? Which ‘celebrity’ hasn’t? Given this, your reaction baffles me.

I understand the intention of your blog . You wanted to clear the air surrounding your match. But I’m sorry to be blunt, but it didn’t help your case & in fact, only brings more scorn towards you from an audience that was already indifferent to you. I don’t mean to offend you and I’m leaving my personal opinions aside as I write this, but that is the feeling towards you & your blog. To be completely honest with you, your blog further alienates fans and only gives them more ammunition against you.

I’m sure you realise that putting a non-wrestler [again which you admit yourself] in a wrestling match would provoke a reaction from wrestling fans. And I again because of this, I am surprised at your reaction.

To offer you some advice, I would suggest you look at the way other women in this industry carry themselves. In fact, look no further than your fellow Knockouts. Lisa Marie Varon aka Tara for example, possibly one of the classiest women to ever step foot in a wrestling ring. You would never see Lisa break that ‘fourth wall’ between the audience and herself and speak out on criticism that she may face, or at least in the manner that you have. Even looking beyond the industry and towards the entertainment industry i.e. Hollywood, you would never see a star worth their salt take to MySpace and attempt to challenge fans. Again, not lashing out at you, but being honest.

It’s accepted that fans will criticise and the classiest thing you can do is ignore it. And if you can’t ignore it, act as though you’re unaffected by it. The entertainment industry is built on facades, after all.

Thanks for reading.

Raw Redux (July 27th, 2009) – More Questions Than An Episode of Lost

22

raw27july09

Last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw saw a changing of the guard, as Mickie James made her first appearance as the new Divas Champion. Also factor in that the former Divas Champ, Maryse is now on the injured list and you have a fresh new outlook for the Raw Divas division.

In just 5 minutes, we were given a lot of ambiguous teasing that was left unexplained. The result of which leads to more questions than an episode of mind-bending series, Lost. Either way, WWE did some interesting stuff last night that will make people want to come back next Monday and find out what’s going on. Why did Mickie looked so annoyed? Why was Beth Phoenix glaring at her? Why was Beth smirking? Who was she smirking at? So many questions!

Well we could probably answer a few of those questions right now — or theorize rather. From last night’s WWE.com live chat, we have some explanation as to why Mickie looked pissed; she felt disrespected by Gail Kim blind tagging herself into the match. Also given the rumours just hours before Raw went on the air about talk of turning Gail heel, that plays into the direction they went in last night.

But then to speculate on the other questions, how does Beth factor in? It definitely seemed as though she was part of this situation too as she stood on the ring apron far longer than she should have and the camera panned in on her, after the match. We saw Beth glare at someone and then we saw her expression change to a smirk; if I had to speculate I guess she was glaring at Mickie and maybe smirking at Gail? Maybe the storyline is that Gail & Beth have teamed up to oust Mickie J? Intriguing…

Another possibility among you guys seems to be that it’ll be Mickie that turns heel. Personally, I don’t see it happening. If there were ever a Diva that was considered a ‘prized possession’ it would be Mickie, I don’t think they’d want to turn her heel.

Onto the match, it’s nice to see Beth back in the ring after a few weeks absence and a ridiculous message board fodder pregnancy rumour. We kick off with something of a dream match, with Gail and Beth starting things out. Gail with a headlock but Beth uses her strength to lift Gail off her feet and throw her down, but the cat-like G-Kim lands on her feet. This is a singles match I definitely want to see, there’s a lot of parallels here between Gail-Kong, that powerful strength versus the agile, high flying style. Gail with a few punches before mounting Beth in the corner, but once again more strength from Beth as she hoists Gail up and throws her overhead, but Gail attempts to hit a sunset flip for a pin but even more power from Beth, grabbing her by the neck and bringing her to her feet.

Gail manages to break free, with a tilt-a-whirl headscissors into the armbar, which she calls the Flying Dragon. Rosa like any good Number 2 [Austin Powers, anyone?] breaks up the move but gets a fist from Gail for her troubles. Meanwhile Beth grabs Gail and hoists her into the air for a powerslam, which landed awkwardly. It looked as though she changed her mind in mid-air, from landing front first to on her back and eventually landed on her side. Beth manages to subdue Gail and tag in Alicia Fox

Foxy hits a nice backbreaker on Gail, I guess that move is fair game since Maryse is injured, and then begins smashing her head into the canvas. Alicia tags in Rosa ‘Should Come With a Warning’ Mendes, who hits an awful looking powerslam on Gail that could’ve landed her on her head and then hesitates before going for a cover. Okay, one move and her timing is already off? Thankfully she tags back out to A-Fox, who hits a snapmare on Gail but then we see what I think was my favourite part of the match, a very unique takedown by Gail using her legs. Alicia sold this really well.

Gail finally manages to get a hot tag to the new Divas Champ, Mickie James who fights off Alicia and even knocks Rosa off the apron. A brief staredown between Beth and Mickie, before going right back to work on Alicia with a kick to the gut and a neckbreaker. Mickie signals her Tornado DDT but Alicia backs her into the corner, which calls for Mickie’s headscissors with the assist from the corner & a Thesz press.

The end sees Alicia attempt to kick Mickie but Mickie grabs her leg and Gail blind tags herself in and hits a missile dropkick as Mickie watches on annoyed. Gail for the pin on Alicia as Kelly gets her only action of the night, with a clothesline on Rosa.

Mickie doesn’t look too happy but celebrates anyway, as Beth looks on with a Death Eater-like glare before smirking ever so slightly. Ominous.

Good match, good set-up for future storylines. Gail vs Mickie? Mickie vs Beth? Mickie vs Gail vs Beth? I’m down for 2 of those 3 options. Looking forward to next week.

Roundtable Discussion Post (July 30th, 2009)

This week on an all new Roundtable, the Diva Dirt team will be discussing WWE, TNA and a lot more! Join us as usual, on Thursday. But in the meantime, have your say on your topics:

Please try to keep them short and sweet — just one sentence, so we can read out as many comments as possible.

WWE Topic: “Former Divas Champion, Maryse is on the injured list. As the top heel of the Raw side, how will Raw cope without her and will it suffer?”

TNA Topic: “TNA has announced a deal with Playboy, with Traci Brooks the first Knockout to grace the cover. A cheap attempt at publicity? And to what length does this contradict TNA’s stance on the WWE Divas?”

We are also going to do a segment where we answer your questions about anything and everything, from wrestling to random stuff! If you have a question for Melanie, Erin, Steven or Tiffany, just leave it in a comment and make sure you state who your question is for! Whether it be an opinion on a certain Diva or if you just want to know what their favourite sandwich filling is!

Remember: Keep your comments brief, one sentence is best. I’m being serious about this, last week we got huge paragraphs from some of you and bear in mind, I have to read this out and it gets tongue-twistery. I know it’s hard to say what you want to say in a line or two, but it’s important to keep your comments brief so we can read them out.

Please copy and paste and the form below into the comments box, to best help us! Feel free to leave any field blank if you don’t want to answer:

ROH Recap July 25, 2009: The Same Old Blood Rush With A New Touch

roh25july09

After weeks and weeks of waiting, SHIMMER fans are finally treated to some SHIMMER-lite goodness on HDNet. This week the team of Neveah and Daizee Haze take on former SHIMMER Champion Sara Del Rey and current SHIMMER Champion MsChif. Check out the match below:

DAIZEE/NEVEAH VS MSCHIF/DEL REY

The heels enter first to a cheap plug for SDR’s new Twitter page followed by Neveah and Daizee. Will someone please get Neveah some new ring gear!!! She seems to be wearing that same outfit everytime I see her. Anyway, onto the match.

Neveah and MsChif start things off with a lockup. Neveah with a slam from behind into a hammerlock into a really pretty bridge. After an questionable armdrag,  Neveah tags in Daizee and executes a double hip toss for a near fall. Daizee goes for an arm wringer but MsChif reverses with an impressive frontflip. Sidenote:  I think it amazing that a woman of MsChif’s body type can pull off such graceful maneuvers. Not that she’s fat or anything, but she doesn’t strike me as the type to be so agile and flexible.

Daizee counters with a reversal of her own into a couple of armdrags. Daizee tags in her partner who hit her trademark necksnap/sliding clothesline combo. She goes for the pin, but it’ s broken up by Del Rey. Neveah goes back on the attack with a scoopslam, but her momentum is halted by Del Rey once again. MsChif takes advantage and hits a perfect standing moonsault for a two.

Sara is back in the match and takes it to Neveah with a headbutt and several stomps. After one last stomp to the face (ouch), Del Rey gets Neveah back to her feet and whips her to the corner. Nevaeh attempts a bottom rope crossbody (…really Neveah?), only to be planted by Del Rey’s modified suplex.

Quick tags by the heels, working over Neveah, who needs a tag desperately. After a reversal, Neveah finally manages to get to her corner and tag in Daizee, who lights a fire under this match. After a Gail Kim-esque drop kick, Daizee hits a flurry but only gets a two count. After a failed monkey flip, Neveah blind tags Daizee. Here’s where things get really cool.

Oblivious to the tag, Sara sets up Daizee for a powerbomb while MsChif goes to the top rope. Daizee counters with a hurricanrana, simultaneously avoiding MsChif Green Mist. Very nice spot, ladies.

Neveah uses the confusion to her advantage, rolling Sara Del Rel up for the near fall. Del Rey gets control of the match with a headbutt into one of the most impressive finishers in women’s wrestling today: The Royal Butterfly.

All four women involved in this match put on a great show, as always. I do, however, have one complaint. I feel like I’ve seen this match before. In fact, I did. A few weeks back we saw the same match, with Sassy Stephie taking MsChif’s place. I can’t help but feel like ROH is overusing these four women. There are plenty of girls on the SHIMMER roster that could put on awesome matches. Why not put some of them in ROH? Rumor is that a certain ‘Hardcore Knockout’ will be making her debut in Ring of Honor soon, so maybe we’ll have a new matchup on HDNet soon.

Another thing that could be injected into ROH’s women’s division is some storyline development. I realise that these girls have storylines in SHIMMER, but I don’t think a little storytelling would go amiss.

Eve is Summer Chic

Eve in ‘Enchanting Eve’

You know the score with these Eye Candy posts by now. View the photoshoot we’ve “hung” on our wall, read our critique, vote, and last but not least – sound off in the comments!

Well our Eye Candy posts have had an ‘off-season’ this past month but I’m going to be helping Erin out where I can by posting some of the new WWE.com shoots! And I can’t think of a better photoshoot to start with…

The Look: If any casting directors for Sex and the City 2 are looking for extras, look no further! SmackDown Diva, Eve Torres is already looking the part. This casual yet sexy outfit is definitely summer-ready. It’s simple, colourful but at the same time incredibly chic. The bold, orangey-red frilled skirt is eye catching and perfect for the summer. Contrasted with a simple navy blue tank top, Eve doesn’t over-do it. Completing her look is a cute black ruched belt that brings everything together. Acessory wise, again simple and elegant is the key with a watch and a nice pair of hooped earrings. Grade: A+

The Poses: It’s not exactly a groundbreaking photoshoot in this category, but I like it. The outfit looks as though it was put together effortlessly and the poses feel like that too, so there’s some theme, I guess. Eve uses her arms in various different poses, all of which work and sell the outfit, while the wind machine definitely did it’s job on this shoot because her hair looks great in each shot too. Grade: B

Uniqueness: There’s nothing too unique here. You could probably notice a dozen girls wearing something similar if you walked to the store, while the poses are standard for Eve. But in terms of Divas and photoshoots, this is a rarity. It’s one of those unique photoshoots where everything has come together. And if we’re really honest, Divas aren’t exactly known for their fashion sense. Which is why I think this is a unique photoshoot.. Grade: A-

Overall: I may be biased, because I have been gushing over this shoot since the moment I saw it. I think it’s well put together. It looks clean, simple and classy but also very summery and flirty. Eve deserves props on this one. Grade: A

TNA will be running house shows that weekend and thus SHIMMER won’t have access to their talent including Kong, Daffney & Melissa to name but a few. An announcement on a new date is pending.

Mickie James Plays Up Gail Kim Tension

14

mickiegail

It definitely looks like as though the seeds for a feud were planted last night, as moments after her team’s win in a six Diva tag match, new Divas Champ Mickie James played up tension between her and partner Gail Kim in a WWE Universe live chat.

Mickie says:

Well I kinda had it under control. I just don’t understand why she would tag herself in. Seemed odd. Maybe a little selfish to me. I mean we still won. But its just a matter of respect.

Looks like the talk about Gail turning heel could come true in coming weeks.

Thanks to @stratusfied on Twitter for the tip.

More in our Raw Redux later today.
