4

roundtable

Diva Dirt is proud to introduce a new audio show for you guys, in addition to our audio bulletins — the Diva Dirt Roundtable! This panel discussion show features the entire Diva Dirt team including myself, Erin, Steven and Tiffany. In our Roundtable discussion, we aim to cover current topics from the world of women’s wrestling.

This week on the Roundtable: We talk about WWE’s treatment of it’s returning Divas at WrestleMania 25, following Torrie Wilson‘s comments last week in an interview with the Baltimore Sun. Plus, does TNA have too many Knockouts? We also talk about the week in TV; our thoughts on Impact, SmackDown and Raw as well as answer your questions to the team! We are joined this week by guest panlist, Daniel, a reader of Diva Dirt.

To listen to the Roundtable directly on the website, just click on the play button below. However due to the length of the Roundtable discussion, we also have a download link available for those who want to listen to the MP3 file on their computer.

Note on SmackDown Redux

0

After over a year, I have decided to give up the SmackDown Redux and relinquish my duty to our Managing Editor, Erin!

Erin will take over the SmackDown Redux, beginning with tomorrow’s episode while I will exclusively write the Raw Redux and ECW columns, if/when they do something of note.

We will also be splitting up PPV & WWE Superstars reviews, based on the brand competing on the show.

Check back tomorrow for Erin’s first Redux!

ECW (July 9th, 2009) – Katie Lea Returns & Bella Twins Dust Off Act

24

As you all know, this week’s ECW was pre-empted from it’s usual Tuesday night spot and instead will air tonight at 7pm ET on the rebranded Syfy network. However, why wait? The whole episode has leaked online and below we have this week’s Divas action as newcomer Nikki Bella [with sister Brie] takes on the scarcely-seen Katie Lea.

Exclusive: Dawn Marie on Weight Loss, Wrestler’s Rescue and Much More

8

dawnmarie

As promised, I had the opportunity to interview the lovely Dawn Marie today in a chat that lasted well over an hour! We remember Dawn as the seductress of SmackDown but since then, she’s become a wife and mother and is now the driving force behind Wrestler’s Rescue.

I gotta admit, I was nervous but Dawn is extremely warm and is just an awesome, approachable woman. Over the course of the hour, we discussed what Dawn’s currently up to as she’s doing a weight loss program and encourages fans to join her. We also talked about Wrestler’s Rescue, her time in the WWE and much more!

Dawn was very open and honest, she talks about what happened with her and TNA who offered her a job and then took it back and why she thinks they did so. Dawn also reveals her thoughts on the girls today, including Michelle McCool who had her first SmackDown match with Dawn as well as the women she respects!

If I do say so myself, I think you’ll all enjoy this interview & there’s a lot I’m sure, you’ll want to discuss in the comments!

[gplayer href=”http://diva-dirt.com/audio/dawninterview.mp3″][/gplayer]
Run Time: 1:00:09

To support Dawn in her weight loss journey, check out her MySpace page, Twitter and official website. Dawn will be writing blogs, uploading video diaries and more. Plus you can also make a donation [and receive a free gift!] to Wrestler’s Rescue, which we all urge you to do if you have enjoyed this interview!

Victoria’s First TNA Photoshoot & Impact Reminder

4

victoria-tnapix

TNA has released Victoria‘s first TNA photoshoot, with her pet tarantula who she has entitled ‘Poison’. Check them out below.

While Victoria looks no different than usual [i.e. her old WWE.com photoshoots], it’s come to my realisation that the way TNA photographs probably isn’t the most flattering way. There seems to be a lot of harsh lighting and heavy makeup and that’s not the Victoria we know and love!

On the plus side, Lisa’s looking leaner and meaner than ever before — possibly due to her MMA training.

[nggallery id=316]

PS: Don’t forget to tune into Impact tonight at 9pm on SpikeTV for a major moment in the Knockouts history and for Victoria too. And then check back here at Diva Dirt to discuss!

$5000 for a Piece of Candi?

11

candice9

Recently released WWE Diva, Candice Michelle will probably be the most expensive piece of ‘Candi’ you ever pay for, if you choose to hire out her services [not in the Ashley sense].

The former Women’s Champion is asking for a cool $5000 per appearance — but not in a wrestling role. For $5000 Candice will come and host a party or sign autographs or even just do her GoDaddy twirl on repeat for an hour, but she won’t wrestle.

$5000 for ‘eye Candi’ basically. Something tells me the only thing Candice’s agents will be hearing are crickets.

Confirmation to Jemma Palmer Signing

On Monday, I made an audio bulletin about how I was unsure of Jemma Palmer‘s signing, the news which we broke last week. Well in another correction, I have now been able to independently confirm that Jemma has indeed signed with WWE and is headed to FCW.

So there you have it, the final word. Jemma joins recent new signees Serena Deeb and April Jeanette [Gloria Marie].

Michelle Made History, But is She the Next Madusa or Trish?

Get out your pitchforks, people, ’cause Michelle McCool‘s talking. Surely that fact alone would be enough to send certain fans into a raging frenzy, but this instance is a bit more meaningful. In a new WWE.com article, she’s making sure everyone’s aware of her history-making Women’s Championship win and becoming the WWE’s first Diva Grand Slam Champion (as we’ve lovingly dubbed it). Of course, the comments are in character, but it’s nice to see them paying attention to the distinction. Michelle says:

“Being the first to win both the WWE Women’s Title and WWE Divas Championship is just the latest reason why I am better than all of the so-called ‘Divas’ who preceded me,” McCool said.

“Making history is difficult, almost impossible, for those without my athletic ability and intelligence,” the champion said. “I’m a collegiate All-American athlete and earned a master’s degree in education from Florida State University.”

WWE.com also listed a few record-setting Divas who paved the way for Michelle:

• The Fabulous Moolah (First title reign lasted nearly 34 years; WWE Hall of Famer)
• “Sensational” Sherri Martel (AWA and WWE Women’s Champion; WWE Hall of Famer)
• Madusa/Alundra Blayze (All Japan, AWA and WWE Women’s Champion)
• Trish Stratus (Record-setting seven-time Women’s Champion; retired as Champion at Unforgiven 2006 in her hometown of Toronto)

How do you think Michelle and her history-making win stacks up next to the likes of those girls? Do you think, in 10 years time, we’ll be saying the name McCool in the same breath as Moolah and Trish Stratus, or is that nothing but a pipe dream? Is being the Grand Slam Champ as momentous as Michelle says? Sound off, because we know you’re itching to!

Exclusive: Another Batch of Wrestlicious Pictures!

3

wrestliciouspix2

Our friends at Wrestlicious have sent us another batch of photos from behind the scenes of the new all-female promotion. We’ve been told that the company has a few announcements to come, and you guys will be among the first to hear the news so stay tuned!

In the meantime check out the new photos before and let us know what you think!

After the cut, I’ve compiled a list of who the girls are in each photo:

Beautiful People Break the Magazine World

4

TNA’s Beautiful People have turned heads in the wrestling industry, charging to the top of the Knockouts divison and now they’re taking on the magazine world too! It’s no secret that TNA doesn’t exactly have the same contacts as WWE, so getting your Knockouts magazine spreads is a big accomplishment compared to the Divas!

The Beautiful People’s Angelina Love and Velvet Sky will feature in Muscle & Fitness, the same magazine that our sexy SmackDown Divas [Michelle McCool, Eve Torres and now Raw Diva, Maryse] featured in earlier this year. ‘Vel-Vel’ posted posted a few pictures up on her MySpace, see below.

I see they’ve brought their ‘unique’ style to the pages of M&F *cough* What do you think?

Could Trish Stratus Be a Guest General Manager?

23

trish4

While Tiffany annoys the hell out of us on ECW and Teddy Long battles for survival on SmackDown, Raw is getting a guest GM every single week! We’ve seen injured Superstar, Batista and legend Ted DiBiase take the reins so far. It seems there is a ‘requirement’ almost for these guest GMs — be a popular star from past or present and be charismatic on the microphone. Who fits the bill? Trish Stratus, that’s who!

The former 7-time Women’s Champion seems to be the perfect fit for guest GM, adding some much needed Stratusfaction to Raw after the influx of male guests! Plus, it would be a far more meaningful cameo appearance from Trish than competing in that stupid Miss WrestleMania match, right?

What do you think? Should WWE put feelers out to Trish — that is if they haven’t already! Vote below:

Roundtable Discussion Post for July 9th Show

13

We will be recording our second Roundtable on Thursday and we want your input this time! Each week we’ll have a couple of topics of debate that we’ll be discussing and we’d like to read out your opinions too!

We have one WWE topic and one TNA topic that the panelists will discuss on Thursday’s show, so if you’d like to have your say, we will read out some of your thoughts during the show this week.

Please try to keep them short and sweet — just one sentence, so we can read out as many comments as possible.

WWE Topic:Torrie Wilson recently had some less than flattering comments about WWE and said they’d put her off getting involved with wrestling again, after the treatment of the returning Divas at WrestleMania 25. Torrie follows in the footsteps of Victoria, who was also less than pleased with the way things went down. Do they have a valid argument or should they have known what to expect?”

TNA Topic: “The Knockouts division continues to gain new Knockouts but are there too many? One could argue that most of the Knockouts aren’t given enough screentime, unless involved in the title picture. Should TNA cut it’s roster down or find some way to placate the growing Knockouts division?”

We are also going to do a segment where we answer your questions about anything and everything, from wrestling to random stuff! If you have a question for Melanie, Erin, Steven or Tiffany, just leave it in a comment and make sure you state who your question is for! Whether it be an opinion on a certain Diva or if you just want to know what their favourite sandwich filling is!

Remember: Keep your comments brief, one sentence is best.

Please copy and paste and the form below into the comments box, to best help us! Feel free to leave any field blank if you don’t want to answer:

The Weekly Top 10: 10 Rules for the Diva Mark

9

theweeklytop10

Welcome to a new feature here at Diva Dirt, the concept of which you may recognise from The Late Show with David Letterman. In every episode of The Late Show, Letterman has a satirical ‘top ten’, that combined with the recently published “20 Rules for the Diva Afterlife” gave us an idea! Check back every week for Diva Dirt’s Letterman-esque Weekly Top 10!

10 Rules for the Diva Mark

1. Pick a Diva
The first step to being a Diva mark is picking a Diva to mark for. Duh! Prime candidates are Divas with limited ring skills, zero charisma and/or a questionable past ( modeling, contest winners and porn). These flaws will make perfect targets for others to pick at, making for the perfect opportunity to unleash your marky fury.

2. Declare Your Love
Once you’ve picked your Diva, the next step is to show everyone how much you love them. Scour the message boards for any and every thread about your Diva. Leave borderline obssessive messages such as: “ZOMG! She’s the bestest diva everz!'” Make sure every other message on the thread is yours.

3. Twitter Me
If your Diva of choice has a Twitter (or any other social networking profile), use it !This is your direct line to your chosen Diva and your best chance to grab her attention. Send messages like: “You’re the like best ever!” or “What are you doing RIGHT NOW? I wish I was there =(”

If she doesn’t respond, keep trying! She can only ignore you for so long…

4. Take Her Name
Change your Twitter username to ‘BobbyKanellis4Maria’ or something similar.

5. The World Revolves Around Her
One of the mark’s most unique qualities is their uncanny ability to insert their Diva into any conversation. She is the Alpha and the Omega — no other Diva matters. Here’s a perfect example:

John: Hey did you see Mickie James‘ match against Beth Phoenix?
Mark:
Yeah… it was OK. You know what would have made it even better? If Candice was in it! I know she’s been out of action for a year, but she totally deserves the title. I mean, she is the best, right?

But don’t stop at wrestling conversations. Bring your favorite Diva up at the dinner table, at work or even during your biology presentation. A true mark’s work is never done.

50 Sexiest Divas 2009: The Final 50!

0

50sexiestdivas2009

It’s here, it’s finally here! Welcome folks, this is it – the launch of 50 Sexiest Divas 2009. Last year, nearly 1000 votes were cast and you crowned Melina as the Sexiest Diva of 2008! Can the Women’s Champion successfully defend her crown this summer or will we have a new Sexiest Diva for 2009? The competition starts here and continues all summer long!

HOW IT WORKS: This year, the format is a little different. We have collated a list of 100 women from around North America, past and present. From WWE to TNA to SHIMMER, we’ve got them all! Those 100 women have been randomly put into five groups (Groups A-E), with 20 Divas in each group. Every week through the month of June, we will give you a chance to vote for your favourite Diva or Divas in each group. From each group, the 10 Divas with the most votes will secure a place in the top 50, and the 10 with the least votes will be cut. Once you have voted for every group, we will have the 50 Divas who will make up the ‘Sexiest’ list for 2009… but it doesn’t stop there! You will then vote for your favourite Diva or Divas in the top 50 to secure their place in the chart. This is when you’ll decide who is #1 all the way up to #50.

THIS IS IT! For the last month, you have voted from 100 women of wrestling to narrow down the vote to just 50. After 5 rigorous rounds — we have our top 50 who have all secured a place on the 50 Sexiest Divas countdown for 2009. But the work doesn’t end there… You now have to support your favourite Diva to make sure she gets the highest ranking possible! In this vote, which begins today and ends at the very end of the month, you will determine where each Diva ranks, from 1-50.

The results will be revealed in August.

Audio Bulletin: Correction [and Speculation] on Jemma Palmer Signing

4

In the audio below, Diva Dirt has a correction on our story reported last week that Jemma Palmer has been signed by WWE,as well as some speculation about what’s really happening [and it’s pretty juicy!].

In the bulletin, you will hear me say that contrary to what we reported last week, in the time since then and now we have learned that news of Jemma’s signing could be incorrect. I have apologised in the bulletin, but once again to reiterate; our apologies to Jemma and our readers if we have deceived you.

The reason I put this in audio is to best explain the situation, which was a genuine mistake on the part of ourselves and our source.

As reiterated in the bulletin, the thoughts/comments are my own and are not confirmed facts, just my take on the situation.

Tweets of the Week: July 5th, 2009

4

It’s official: Twitter has become a full-blown internet phenomenon. I mean, what’s better than seeing the inner thoughts of your favorite celebs? I’ll tell you what – seeing the inner thoughts of your favorite Divas! That’s why we’ve devised a new weekly feature, titled Tweets of the Week, where we’ll take a look at what the women of wrestling have been tweeting this week: the funny, the poignant, and the random. We’ll scour Twitter and serve it up for you, complete with the requisite Diva Dirt charm.

This week’s #5 is FCW Diva and WWE trainee Angela Fong (@missangelafong) witnessing an age-old Fourth of July tradition with a mixture of fear and awe:

Clearly, competitive eating isn’t on her list of things to do. Maybe, as a Canadian, she doesn’t truly appreciate the good old fashioned American hot dog? Diva Dirt will have to air-mail her one.

#4 sees Divas Champion Maryse (@maryse0uellet) takes advantage of a recent tour through Australia to admire some of the locals.. sort of:

Her thick French accent vs. an Aussie accent? Tough choice.. Kind of like Marion Cotillard vs. Nicole Kidman. Gotta go with Kidman on this one. ;)

In #3, brings us Indy darling, former TNA Knockout, and SHIMMER girl Nikki Roxx (@RoxxiNikki) recounting an incident that proves physical humor is always the best humor:

Hopefully the guy’s okay, but I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t be laughing my ass off too. But dude, watch out: car beats bicycle every time!

Picture Post: A Look at Tomorrow Night’s Raw

12

raw

As you all know, tomorrow night’s episode of Raw was taped last Monday due to an international tour — the Raw brand is currently visiting Australia. Check out a few ‘preview’ pictures after the cut courtesy of a user at the Wrestlingfigs.com Forums.

The pictures are pretty non-spoiler, they don’t necessarily reveal anything about the outcome of the show — only the Divas on the broadcast. Just to be safe, they are under the cut. To read spoilers [if you haven’t already] click here.

Oh, Say Does That Star-Spangled Banner Yet Wave…

Maria in “Independence Day”

We’re debuting a new format for our Eye Candy posts – complete with more detailed critiques and “graded” categories. View the photoshoot we’ve “hung” on our wall, read our critique, vote, and last but not least – sound off in the comments!

The Look: Call me un-American if you want, but ensembles inspired by the American flag have always seemed a bit tacky to me. So I suppose it’s fitting that Maria’s gone absolutely over-the-top with it. I know it’s the Fourth of July, but it is possible to pay tribute to America with a bit more subtlety. A stars-and-stripes bikini adorned with bows, knee-high blue boots, a blue starred glove, gigantic star earrings, and blue nail polish all point towards a outfit crafted towards the “TEAM AMERICA!! #1!!!” crowd (you know, the type that chants “USA” whenever a foreign-born heel cuts a promo) in its sheer excess. I know that it’s a bit pointless to nitpick the look, as it is about as themed as you can get, but I can’t get past the sheer eyesore of it. And if that wasn’t enough, Maria drapes herself in the American flag, effectively smacking you in the face with a shovel full of patriotism. Grade: C-

The Poses: Maria uses her flag prop to her advantage, draping herself in it and waving it around. She uses it pretty well for some cute poses, and her facial expressions are as peppy and bright as any fireworks display. Still, I can’t help but think of the thought process behind this as the fireworks equivalent of a hand-held sparkler (i.e., weak). It’s as if they tossed her the flag willy nilly and told her to go to town. It doesn’t look bad, don’t get me wrong – it just looks tacked-on. Grade: B

Uniqueness: Holiday photoshoots are always a break from the ordinary, so this one is pretty unique right off the bat. And, where other Divas might toss on a red-white-and-blue bikini and call it a day, Maria really went all out. It may not be to the best results, but the effort is noticeable. Grade: A

Overall: If there’s one Diva I wouldn’t want to have a Fourth of July photoshoot, it’d be Maria. The combined tackiness of America-themed clothing and Maria sound like the makings of a visual disaster. Still, it could be worse – it didn’t burn my retinas or anything.. I just don’t like it very much. Grade: C+

TNA Sets Hamada Debut

2

Just last week in our Roundtable, we were wondering when TNA had planned to introduce Ayako Hamada, who was signed several months ago. Well according to a new report, Hamada is set to debut at the next batch of Impact tapings — which will occur after Victory Road on July 19th.

As you know, TNA tapes their month’s worth of shows the week after their pay per views so Hamada will enter the Impact Zone later this month. When her debut airs on TV remains to be seen.

Hamada joins a recent slew of new Knockouts including Victoria and Sarita. Meanwhile, Raisha Saeed will be repackaged as Melissa Flash, making her a new-ish Knockout too.

One Knockout that is no stranger to Hamada is Awesome Kong, who she worked with in Japan. Check out one of their matches from 2004 after the cut:

Dead Ringers: Michelle McCool and Kadee Strickland

13

deadringers
Have you ever thought that a certain Diva resembled another celebrity out there? Ever done double-take while watching a movie or TV show and thought “Hang on, isn’t that so-and-so?” Well we certainly have! Diva Dirt’s Dead Ringers aims to seek out our Divas celeb dopplegangers and highlight them here, for you to vote whether there’s a passing resemblance or not! Also feel free to suggest your own dead ringers by e-mailing us at [email protected].

MICHELLE MCCOOL AND KADEE STRICKLAND
deadringer-michelle

The Diva: Our new Women’s Champion and first ever Female Grand Slam Champion, Michelle McCool.

The Celeb: 31-year-old Kadee stars in the hit ABC show, Private Practice, the spin-off of Grey’s Anatomy. She plays Dr Charlotte King on the show and in real life is married to former Roswell actor, Jason Behr.

I have to admit, when I was Googling pictures of Kadee, it didn’t do the resemblance justice. So maybe she doesn’t picture too well as Michelle; but whenever I watch Private Practice, I have to do double take because I always think Kadee is Michelle. Maybe if you hear her speak you’ll better see the resemblance, as Kadee sports the same southern drawl as our Women’s Champ; she hails from Patterson, Georgia. Then there’s the pin straight hair and bangs as you can see above.

Do you see what I see? Is Kadee Srickland a dead ringer for Michelle McCool? Vote below:

PS: Feel free to recommend your own dead ringers by e-mail or comment.

Diva B-Sides: Maria

7

divabsides

We can all agree that, with a few exceptions, Divas get the short end of the stick when comes to entrance themes. While the male superstars get music from actual bands and artists or custom made songs with lyrics, Divas get stuck with crappy production music. If I had the chance I would change all the Divas music to something a little… well, better. Hence, Diva B-Sides was born; a Diva Dirt exclusive where we match WWE Divas and TNA Knockouts with new entrance themes. Today B-Side is for Smackdown’s resident (and I use this term loosely) fashionista, Maria:

Mariabside

PICK #1: “DROP THE GIRL” BY HIT THE LIGHTS

Maria actually happen to be one of the only Divas on the roster to have an actual song for her entrance theme. Unfortunately, that doesnt make it any less annoying.

I was never a fan of Zebrahead (the band that made her theme),  so I was cringing long before I heard the entire song. I decided to pick a band that is equally nasally, but half as annoying.

“Drop The Girl” sounds strangely similar to “With Legs Like That”. They both have a punk rock feel that compliments Maria image, or at least the image she’s trying to convey. The best part however, is the subliminal messages not-s0-hidden in there. “Drop the Girl/She’s not worth the time”. Hmm… I’ll leave it at that.

Hear Maria’s B-side and my second pick after the cut:

SmackDown Redux (July 3rd, 2009) – Trade Hurts But Business Booms

23

sd03july09

In the week since last week’s SmackDown and today’s, the women’s division for the blue brand has become almost unrecognisable. There’s a new Women’s Champion in Michelle McCool and the brand took a severe hit, when it lost solid workers in Gail Kim and Alicia Fox. The aftermath of the trade on Monday night, hurt because we’re huge fans of Gail and Alicia as well as the way SmackDown was booked in the past couple of months.

But I’m pleased to report, that the trades haven’t affected the quality of the show as this week business continued to boom for the Friday night show, showing no signs of mourning for the dearly departed Divas. Watch below as Melina teams up with an unlikely partner, Maria to take on the now heel again, Layla and McCool:

Important Notice on Advertising & Diva Dirt Future

7

We have recently learned that some of our visitors are being affected by spyware when visiting this site, because of advertisements served by our advertisers. First of all, I am truly sorry for anyone that has been affected through visiting this site. Rest assured, we have discontinued advertising served by this company.

As a result, we will be forfeiting potential revenue that help us to pay for our site. As you all know, earlier in the week we had hosting troubles and have since moved to a new, more expensive host which will better be equipped to deal with our growth. What you guys see is only half of it, what you don’t see is the hundreds of dollars of my own money that I have poured into this site to keep it running. I am no longer financially stable enough to keep going with the way we have been and that was before the higher hosting bills.

We want to keep Diva Dirt alive and we want to keep it free, so we need you guys to help us out as much as you can by donating to the site. We have always had our ‘Donate’ button to the right but we have never pushed anyone into donating, but we truly need your help to keep going month to month, because the future of Diva Dirt is not solidified.

I don’t think I need to explain why you should donate, the fact that thousands of people come back every day [and some of you more than once!] says it all. We really appreciate your support!
