50 Sexiest Divas 2009: Group E

0

50sexiestdivas2009

It’s here, it’s finally here! Welcome folks, this is it – the launch of 50 Sexiest Divas 2009. Last year, nearly 1000 votes were cast and you crowned Melina as the Sexiest Diva of 2008! Can the Women’s Champion successfully defend her crown this summer or will we have a new Sexiest Diva for 2009? The competition starts here and continues all summer long!

HOW IT WORKS: This year, the format is a little different. We have collated a list of 100 women from around North America, past and present. From WWE to TNA to SHIMMER, we’ve got them all! Those 100 women have been randomly put into five groups (Groups A-E), with 20 Divas in each group. Every week through the month of June, we will give you a chance to vote for your favourite Diva or Divas in each group. From each group, the 10 Divas with the most votes will secure a place in the top 50, and the 10 with the least votes will be cut. Once you have voted for every group, we will have the 50 Divas who will make up the ‘Sexiest’ list for 2009… but it doesn’t stop there! You will then vote for your favourite Diva or Divas in the top 50 to secure their place in the chart. This is when you’ll decide who is #1 all the way up to #50.

It’s the FINAL group vote! This last vote will determine the final 10 women who will chart on our 50 Sexiest Divas list for 2009! From next week, you will vote one last time to determine the order in which the top 50 rank! The person with the most votes ranks at #1 and the person with the lowest votes ranks at #50.

But that’s next week… This week we have another 20 Divas who want to make it onto the chart including last year’s Sexiest Diva — Melina! Can Melina make it two years in a row? Her place is not safe and she will need your votes. Joining her are new Women’s Champion, Michelle McCool, TNA’s Daffney and many more!

Audio Bulletin: Initial Thoughts on The Bash & Michelle Criticism

13

Good morning all! Welcome to a new audio bulletin all about last night’s Bash pay per view! My initial thoughts on the match and Michelle’s title win, as well as my reaction to some of the horribly immature comments that were made last night.

Please note: Contains strong language.

Michelle McCool Wins & Makes History… Again

Ladies and gentlemen, Diva Dirt has crowned it’s first ever Female Grand Slam Champion in Michelle McCool. Michelle defeated Melina to become the new Women’s Champion moments ago at The Bash in an incredible match, if I do say so myself.

I know this will be an unpopular outcome for many, but I urge you to be mature in your McHating in the comments. Immature comments will get you banned.

Diva Dirt Announces Recognition System for Diva Accomplishments

4

recognitionsystem

It has come to our attention that tonight at The Bash, Michelle McCool has the opportunity to make history as the first woman to hold both the WWE Women’s Championship and WWE Divas Championship. In the wrestling industry, we understand that there is almost a ‘double standard’ for women’s wrestling and the accomplishments of the women in the industry will always be secondary to the men.

It is likely that WWE, TNA and the wrestling press will overlook such accomplishments, however as your self-proclaimed “women’s wrestling bible” we aim to honour and recognize the accomplishments of the women that work for WWE and TNA with our own system, to be launched today.

We aim to recognise those women who have already won or in future win both the WWE Divas Championship and WWE Women’s Championship, as a Female Grand Slam Champion.

Furthermore, we aim to recognise those women who have won both of the female championships in WWE and also have held the TNA Knockouts Championship, as a Female Triple Crown Champion.

Our system, just like our website, aims to honour women’s wrestling at it’s finest. We would like to encourage other websites, organisations and publications to adhere to our system too so those that accomplish such feats can hopefully be universally recognised.

The Bash 2009 Predictions From Diva Dirt

thebash

The WWE Divas finally return to pay per view tonight and what a comeback match we have; SmackDown’s Women’s Champion Melina defends for the very first time against Michelle McCool. Neither Diva is a stranger to The Bash, though they’ve had varying degrees of luck at the event. Melina competed for the Women’s Title in 2007, in a losing effort to Candice Michelle. Meanwhile, Michelle McCool became the first ever Divas Champion at last year’s show. Can lightning strike twice?

Our Diva Dirt writers weigh in:

Erin: If Michelle wins, she becomes the WWE’s first-ever Diva double champ (yeah, sorry about lagging on that Diva Dirt feature, by the way, dear readers), so it’s not something to be taken lightly. Is the WWE ready to crown a double champ? I’m sure the higher-ups haven’t even given the “double champion” thing a thought, which is why I don’t think that when Michelle wins, they’ll do much more than mention the mere fact. I feel that it’s Michelle’s time to take the Women’s Championship and run with it. Melina’s done well on SmackDown, but a babyface with a championship is almost like a swimmer treading water – there’s not much to do than thwart the heel’s attempts over and over. Most agree that a babyface is better in the “chase” position (Exhibit A – Trish Stratus), so if the WWE wants to get some legs out of this Michelle/Melina feud, it’d be best to give Michelle the title and let Melina chase for a while. Even if Michelle, with her newly-won title, moves on to different feud, it’s beneficial for SmackDown in its new position as the “show to watch” to keep things fresh and new. A heel champ should spice things up a bit, if only a little. Melina can survive without the title – she’s popular enough – so it only makes sense to let someone else shine…

Melanie: First of all, the uprising against Michelle becoming the first ever Divas & Women’s Champion is ridiculous. I don’t really care who the first ever double champion is to be honest, it’s only a bragging right. To me, it’s a storyline device and nothing more and I liken the situation to when Santino won the ‘Miss WrestleMania’ title, it was a storyline device. I was upset about that, but now I’m ‘older and wiser’ shall we say lol and can see what WWE will be looking for in it’s first Divas & Women’s Champion — not much. It’ll be a storyline device and not neccessarily for the ‘Diva who has deserved it most’, as most people seem to think Michelle doesn’t deserve it over Mickie James. As a heel, Michelle needs to be bragadocious and this is the perfect storyline device to do it, by getting bragging rights on being the first ever double champion. It’s Michelle all the way on this one. There’s more to be done in terms of storyline with Michelle as a boastful champion and Melina as an underdog chasing the title.

Steven: As I said in my audio bulletin, I really think that Michelle McCool has this match in the bag. I normally would have bet against her being that she won on SmackDown this past Friday, but WWE has really shoving the whole ‘Michelle as double champion’ thing down our throat as of late. I feel WWE is trying to make Michelle the new face of the Divas division and this is the perfect opportunity. Expect McCool to come out of The Bash as Champ and a ‘Michelle McCool haters’ rally to ensue afterwards.

Tiffany: I’m almost confident that Michelle will be taking this one.  It’s been made very clear that WWE intends to have Michelle snatch the accolade of “firstst ever Diva to hold both titles.”  She already has the bragging rights of being the first Divas Champion, which is a testament to WWE’s confidence in her.  Melina has been champion since January, and it has sadly become apparent that WWE does not feel obligated to feature the Divas on PPV unless it’s for some kind of purpose.  At the last PPV, Melina won her title, and I think she will be dropping it at this one.  Most would interpret McCool’s win over Melina on SmackDown as an automatic win for the current champion, but I think it is important to recognize just how strongly Michelle has been pushed in preparation for her next title run.  Michelle has been picking her spots and has been dominating on Smackdown, and I don’t see why that momentum can’t follow her into The Bash.  I think, in Michelle, we’re looking at our next Women’s Champion.

Breaking: Lilian Garcia Quits WWE

13

lilian1

It is sad to report that Raw ring announcer, Lilian Garcia has announced that she will be leaving WWE later this year. Lilian, who first joined the WWE in 1999, will be leaving at the end of her current contract — hence why the company is looking for a new female ring announcer that can sing.

Lilian writes:

I hope all of you are doing well! I am writing to address the situation in which WWE is looking for a Female Ring Announcer/Singer. The truth of the matter is that they are looking for someone new because I have given them my notice that I will be leaving at the end of my contract this year. It is with a heavy heart that I have made this decision because WWE has been my family from day one and you, the WWE Universe have always been incredible to me. The fact is that I am getting married later this year and have decided to enter into a new phase of my life but I will truly miss all of you and the WWE tremendously.

While I never really considered Lilian a ‘Diva’, she has become such a staple of our Monday nights and is such a beautiful woman, amazing singer and a great professional. I’m definitely sad to see Lilian leave, but she has had a landmark run with the WWE – 10 years this year! Like Trish Stratus before her, she will be leaving in order to get married and move on with her life.

Lilian’s departure follows in the footsteps of Vickie Guerrero and the release of Candice. However I feel this goodbye will hit fans the hardest. Our best wishes to Lilian — you truly were the voice of the WWE!

In honour of this news, how about we share some of our favourite Lilian moments? For me, one of the most heartbreaking moments was at the end of Trish’s last match at Unforgiven 2006, when she and Lilian were crying and pointing at each other; it was so emotional and brought a tear to my eye too.

Candice’s Interesting Choice of Words – “Free From the Ring”

11

candice4

In a blog at her GoDaddy.com page, Candice Michelle uses an interesting choice of words to describe her release from WWE, including that she’s “free from the ring.” And for those of you who have wondered whether Candice may perhaps in TNA or even go the indy route (and let’s be honest, can you really imagine Candice doing the indies?) she puts a proverbial  full stop on her wrestling career by saying, “… my five years of wrestling” which suggests, as we all expected, her wrestling career is over:

In case you weren’t aware, I recently parted ways with the WWE, but I’m ready to take off on exciting new adventures. All the WWE executives, divas and superstars were awesome during my five years of wrestling.

Now that I’m free from the ring, I have time to spread my wings. I’ve just joined the Los Angeles Youth Network as an Ambassador, and am ready to begin working with LAYN and the homeless kids living on the streets of LA. I’ve also recently returned from a leadership seminar in San Francisco and have never felt so alive!

I’ve made it abundantly clear that I’m not a fan of Candice, and this just proves why. The connotations of “free from the ring” are negative, it suggests that being in the wrestling industry ‘tied her down’, it’s not a positive phrase at all. To me, it shows that she is not at all passionate about wrestling as she so often made out in her nauseating WWE Universe blogs about how hard she was working and how much it meant to her.

Well look at her now — with the comfort of being a WWE Superstar taken away from her, the girl has called a day on wrestling altogether. If she was as passionate about the industry as she claims she was, she would do anything to be part of it by doing independents and putting out feelers in TNA.

I have stuck up for Candice, I don’t agree with the below-the-belt comments about her looks being part of why she was released; but this to me, shows her true colours and justifies just why I could never be a Candice fan. I have always sensed a falseness to her.

I think this just goes to show the main problem with hiring models and training them to wrestle, once the comfort of WWE is pulled away from underneath them, they can’t stand the heat of what it really means to be a wrestler; doing independent shows, trekking up and down the country and really paying their dues in the way the likes of Mickie, Jillian, Melina, Beth, Natalya and Gail have. And I don’t think it’ll just be Candice, I think the same can be said for Divas like Maria and others, who I doubt will be willing to ‘slum it’ once their time in WWE is up.

The Bash: Through the Years

bashthroughyears

Tonight, WWE holds the 6th incarnation of it’s ‘Bash’ pay per view, a former staple of the WCW PPV calendar. Up until this year, the event had gone by the name of ‘The Great American Bash’, but in an effort to make the show more globally-friendly, it has been shortened to ‘The Bash’.

Tonight at The Bash, the Women’s Championship will be defended for only the second time at the event when Melina defends against Michelle McCool. Neither Diva is a stranger to this particular event, Melina was involved in the very first Women’s Title defence in 2007. Meanwhile, McCool’s career landmark came last year, when she became the first ever Divas Champion at this PPV.

Let us take a look through the years at the various Bash events, ahead of tonight’s big pay per view! Remember to join us for our Bash live blog from 7.45pm ET/12.45am UK!

2004
Sable vs Torrie Wilson

The first Bash pay per view was held in 2004, when WWE ressurected the event for it’s SmackDown brand. With the advertising campaign based around the brand’s top Diva, Torrie Wilson, it only made sense to put her on the card. Sable and Torrie had started out as bitter rivals in 2003 before making up to appear on the cover of Playboy together in March 2004. They even notched up a huge victory together at WrestleMania XX for the SmackDown brand. But just a few months later, they were back at each other’s throats (both on screen and in real life!) which led to this match at the Bash:

It may not have been the most technical affair, but Sable could teach our current crop of Divas a thing or two about in-ring psychology. Her heel mannerisms are resemblant of current Diva, Maryse‘s. Though Sable stole a win here, Torrie would get her revenge the very next week on SmackDown.

Diva B-Sides: ‘The Bash’ Edition

divabsides

Welcome to Diva B-Sides, the Diva Dirt exclusive where we match WWE Divas and TNA Knockouts with new entrance themes. In honor of this Sunday’s PPV, The Bash, I’ve decided to take exception to my new one-Diva-per-post rule to bring you guys a B-Side for both the champion and the challenger. Let’s get right into things with the #1 contender Michelle McCool:

MICHELLE’S PICK: “BREAKING DISHES” BY RIHANNA

I think we can all agree that Michelle’s current theme has long wore out it’s welcome. It just doesn’t fit her new persona. She could also stand to change that tron, because running along the beach in a skimpy bikini just doesnt scream ‘heel’ to me. Alas that’s another post for another time.

At first listen, this song might not seem to fit Michelle, but I think it’s message of being a powerful woman, girl power etc. fits her perfectly. I think that a song with so much character such as this one could help McCool make up in the charisma department (where she is somewhat lacking).

Tweets of the Week: June 27th, 2009

3

It’s official: Twitter has become a full-blown internet phenomenon. I mean, what’s better than seeing the inner thoughts of your favorite celebs? I’ll tell you what – seeing the inner thoughts of your favorite Divas! That’s why we’ve devised a new weekly feature, titled Tweets of the Week, where we’ll take a look at what the women of wrestling have been tweeting this week: the funny, the poignant, and the random. We’ll scour Twitter and serve it up for you, complete with the requisite Diva Dirt charm.

Starting off this week at #5 is Maria (@MariaLKanellis) watching tearjerker charity show Extreme Home Makeover:

I have to admit, seeing the words “makeover” and “Maria” in close proximity makes me want to run for the hills, but it’s sweet to see anyone with a desire to do good for others. Still, I can’t shake the terrifying image of wall-to-wall leopard print and bedazzled drapery..

At #4, Layla (@mslayel) chats with foe Eve (@EveMarieTorres):

Sounds like a feud for the ages, no? Diva feuds have been settled in the ring, in a cage, even in pools filled with Egg Nog. Is the next logical step a knock down, drag-out fight in the middle of a Bath and Body Works?

#3 brings us Divas Champion Maryse (@Maryse0uellet) paying tribute to the late Farrah Fawcett in a way only she can:

The trademark “feathered” hairdo has always been attributed to Charlie’s most famous Angel, but I thought that trend faded out in the 70’s. Maybe Maryse is three decades late to the party. Hey, I hear that movie Star Wars is pretty good – I bet it’ll be a big hit! I have to say, though , Maryse pulls the look off – Farrah would be proud. Now if you excuse me I need to work on my disco dance moves, amongst other cliché things..

Site News: Serious Message on Recent Behaviour, Bash Live Blog & More

11

I hate to have to do this but I’m becoming incredibly frustrated and I think it needs to be said. The behaviour of some commenters on the site as of late has gotten out of hand and we are no longer willing to put up with it. If you are simply commenting for the purpose of abusing members of staff and/or other readers, you will be banned. No warnings. No second chances.

We have never tried to censor comments, everyone is entitled to their opinions and we welcome debate. If you’re visiting this site, we’re assuming you’re grown up and mature enough to be able to have your opinion and understand other people’s opinions. If you don’t agree with someone, you are free to engage in healthy debate. But more often than not lately, that ‘debate’ has become less than healthy and people are using the comments to be abusive and take cheap shots at other people. It’s not on and I won’t accept it.

Secondly, to those of you out there who have the audacity to hide behind an anonymous username and criticse & abuse the staff — grow the fuck up. Erin and I have built this site from nothing and we think we’ve done a pretty damn good job. People may not agree with our opinions but we have never claimed to be a news site, we have never claimed to be an ‘accurate source’ for information. Between March 2008 and present day, I have probably poured hundreds of dollars into running this site, for no profit. We offer free content every single day. We don’t have to do what we do, but we choose to and we work hard to put together stuff for our visitors every day. If you want to sit behind your monitor and criticise me, because God forbid, I don’t know exactly what TNA has taped for each of it’s shows, you can fall off the ends of the Earth along with Perez Hilton as far as I’m concerned.

I dare you to walk a mile in our shoes. I dare you to go out and pour hundreds of dollars of your own money and create your own website. I dare you to put together your own unique content every single day. I dare you to grow the readership we’ve grown, gain the contacts that we’ve gained and gain the respect we’ve gained from different people in the industry including those we write about. Then you can e-mail me and criticise me all you like.

Furthermore, there have been some not so pleasant comments towards our new writer Tiffany. I’d like you to hypothetically imagine what it must be like to join a newspaper or a blog that has a lot of readers. You’re going to be nervous, you have to get used to it and you may mess up. It’s about finding your way. Tiffany has made a really admirable start, if I do say so myself. So those of you that want to offer her advice in her posts, please do so constructively because any one of us can tell you how hard it is when you’re just getting started. Be kind and be constructive.

With the unpleasantries over, I’d like to remind you all that we are hosting our first live blog since the Draft three months ago tomorrow night! The Bash live blog will go live tomorrow at 7.45pm ET, where we’ll be discussing the PPV as it happens and you can react instantly to the Melina-Michelle match!

We have also updated our staff page yay! So if you’re looking to stalk learn more about us & giggle over our pictures, you know what to do.

TNA Hypes Sarah Stock’s Debut as Sarita

1

TNA has begun it’s promotional hype for the Impact debut of Sarita – better known as Canadian wrestler Sarah Stock. The following promo aired on this past Thursday’s Impact:

Looks like the company will be pushing Sarita as a Latina character, with the use of Spanish in that promo. I can’t seem to recall TNA ever hyping the debut of a female talent so this is a great step for them; given the quick deal that was struck with Victoria, Sarah was pushed aside to make way for the more buzz-worthy new talent. Victoria has taken the top babyface spot that TNA had earmarked for Sarah.

I think using video packages leading to Sarita’s debut, it creates a hype around her that makes her feel like an important acquisition, just like Victoria. Great move by TNA and it makes up for the fact they’ve had Sarah just sitting on the sidelines for so long.

For those keeping score at home, here’s what the division looks now: Victoria as top babyface followed by Taylor Wilde, Sarita, ODB and Sojourner Bolt. The heel side is led by Angelina Love and her fellow Beautiful People, Velvet Sky and Madison Rayne as well as Daffney. Meanwhile, Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed seem to be tweeners at the moment.

Sitting on the sidelines are the injured Christy Hemme, Jacqueline and Rhaka Khan.

Nidia Comes Out of the Woodworks

3

For those of you who haven’t gotten the chance to see it yet, Delphia Entertainment has just received the opportunity of a brief interview with former WWE Diva Nidia!

Nidia Guenard Interview

With all of the gossip and allegations surrounding Nidia’s rumoured involvement in this year’s Miss Wrestlemania match, nostalgic Nidia fans alike were disappointed to discover it untrue. Regardless, Nidia looks as gorgeous and vivacious as ever. Now a mother, Nidia looks incredibly fit and joins the likes of Sable in showing that there is life after wrestling. Candice should take note! Although it’s been long since she’s laced up a pair of wrestling boots, it’s refreshing to see Nidia looking just as great, if not better than she did back in 2004. Unfortunately, Nidia is not keen to the world of the interwebs which is almost unheard of nowadays, especially since the conception of Twitter. It’s no secret that the Diva fans are some of the most creative in the world. So perhaps, this will motivate some of you internet experts who still remain fans of this lovely ex-Diva. We don’t care who you’re wearing, Nidia, you look fabulous!

SmackDown Redux (June 26, 2009) – ‘Jaw’ Dropping Bash Build

26

sd26june09

The final stop for the SmackDown Divas before the big Women’s Championship bout on Sunday, saw Michelle McCool and Alicia Fox take on Melina and Gail Kim. Watch below:

Following their epic tag team match last month, which I gave rave reviews, these four women had a lot to live up to when it came to a followup. The verdict? Unlike Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, this sequel lived up to expectations and was a worthy successor to the first match.

The two matches, while comparable because of those involved, are great for different reasons. The first match was a success due to the cool spots and high energy involved; this match however, is a success because of the great story told. It’s a testament to the Women’s Champion Melina, for selling the story the way she did and the way Alicia and Michelle kept her isolated making for a ‘hot tag moment’ when the much missed Gail Kim entered the match.

I can only say good things about Alicia Fox, every week she impresses and by giving her more of an offense this week, she didn’t disappoint. From the outset, Alicia takes control and we have a cool spot where Melina uses her flexibility to arch into a pin. Alicia then tags out to McCool for a tease of their match on Sunday at The Bash. Michelle, who has proven to be quite an aggressive heel, kicks Melina in the jaw setting up the story for the rest of the match; she then hits her patented running knee which again, looked awesom and Melina sold it incredibly well. Alicia even manages to get a cheap shot from the outside, showing her tenacity too. Michelle hits a nice Russian leg-sweep into pin attempt, which has become an admirable part of Michelle’s moveset lately.

Alicia is back in the match now, with a headlock followed by a hair-slam, showing some aggression herself. Alicia then goes for Maryse‘s favourite move, the camel clutch, contorting Melina’s body in shades of last week.

It’s time to welcome Gail Kim back to SmackDown as she gets a hot tag into the match and business picks up! I’m very biased towards Gail & here’s why, she just looks so at ease and incredible in the ring. A barrage of clotheslines followed by going into the corner, Gail jumps through the ropes and then here’s a unique move – she sort of jumps on top of Alicia who’s hanging on the middle rope. She then hits an awesome moonsault-esque crossbody from the top rope followed by a hurricanrana. In the meanwhile, Michelle has made a blind tag unbeknownst to Gail. Unique counter here, as she intercepts Gail as she’s about to hit her one-legged jawbreaker, picking her up into the Faith Breaker for the win.

Really fantastic match. Notice how they got a couple of extra minutes this week too, this gives me some hope we may get a nice long pay per view match this Sunday. If that hasn’t whet your appetite for The Bash go see a doctor, because there’s something wrong with you.

– Don’t forget to join us for our Bash live blog on Sunday!

PS: I’m getting sick of the purposefully rude and ignorant comments about Michelle McCool in these Redux posts. I don’t care who she’s banging. I don’t care if you think she’s the She-Devil. Keep it on topic to SmackDown and storylines. I will hand out ass-whoopings if I have to.

The Tiffany Guide to Impact: Daffney Gets Tacky

10000 tacks match

Last night on TNA Impact! Taylor Wilde took on Daffney in a highly anticipated 10,000 thumbtacks match.

Upon the initial annoucement of this match, some have questioned just what would possess a Knockout such as Taylor to pursue a match of this nature…twice?

Regardless, TNA leaves us scratching our heads as the fast-paced action starts off with Daffney attacking Taylor from behind. Daffney’s intention to give Taylor a taste of her own medicine is quite apparent as the match seems to be going in Daffney’s favour. Daffney attempts to climb the pole in reach of the bag of tacks, but is stopped in her tracks. Taylor makes that same attempt, but is abruptly countered. Some fierce blows are exchanged, and through the struggle, Daffney manages to climb and retrieve the bag. Soon enough, the tables turn as Taylor quickly outsmarts her and snatches it from her. The exchange between these two can be attributed to that of two children fighting over a prized doll. A smug Taylor then finds herself on the receiving end of a mouthful of metal. Meanwhile, a very pleased Daffney proceeds to do the honour of releasing the contents of the bag, spreading 1,000 or so tacks onto the mat. A suplex attempt to Taylor is made and the struggle is fear inducing, but she somehow manages to keep her balance. Despite the fight put up by Daffney, she becomes reacquinted with the tacks. Alas, Daffney gets tacked for the second time this week.

Naturally, TNA will treat this as a milestone in Knockout history, and with good reason. With the first ever Knockouts Monster’s Ball still lingering at our fingertips, TNA definitely struck again while the fire was still hot. There were no major spots, maybe two ‘ouch’ moments here and there, but that’s the extent of it. By numbers alone, this is overshadowed by their encounter at Slammiversary. Regardless, TNA does proceed to push the envelope with its Knockouts during a time where women’s wrestling tends to struggle in the mainstream. All in all, it was a relatively brief match, but I felt both ladies put up a good fight. Daffney is easily one the most interesting characters in the Knockout division at the moment, but it’s discouraging to see her slowly develop a Jillan Hall-complex. This match was obviously a vehicle to prolong the Abyss/Dr. Stevie feud. Again, it does need to be re-iterated how the timing of this match in such close proximity to their match at Slammiversary almost takes away from that initial moment. The dumping of Daffney onto the tacks has now become almost as commonplace as The Beautiful People gyrating on the six-sided ring. Congratulations, TNA for entertaining your worldwide assembly of pain-enthusiasts! You sure know how to target your core audience.

ROH Recap: What You Might Have Missed

As I’m sure you all know, we recently started covering Ring of Honor here at Diva Dirt. ROH, the big brother of all-female promotion SHIMMER, has been featuring SHIMMER matches on their cable show as of late. We were a little late to jump on the bandwagon, so needless to say we missed a few matches. Oops. But fear not, SHIMMER fans! I’ve rounded up all the ROH/SHIMMER action that we haven’t covered here yet. Watch below as Daizee Haze takes on Sara Del Rey:

Jillian’s Alive, Call the Papers!

Jillian in “Her Way”

We’re debuting a new format for our Eye Candy posts – complete with more detailed critiques and “graded” categories. View the photoshoot we’ve “hung” on our wall, read our critique, vote, and last but not least – sound off in the comments!

The Look: Oh my God, Jillian’s alive! That thought was the first thing that came to my mind when seeing this photoshoot, the second being “why is she wearing a toddler’s t-shirt?” You know, the cutesy ones with slogans like “Daddy’s All-Star” and “Don’t [cartoon of a bug] Me”. It’s not very witty or cute, but I guess I have to give her props for sporting something a little out of the ordinary. The black pants and boots make up her requisite ring attire, so there’s nothing really exciting about that. Her makeup, as always, is a bit much, only further emphasizing the comparison between her and a sex doll. Though it seems the closeups are the ones that make it obvious. The shots further away from the camera make the makeup less noticeable and thus a lot less harsh. I will admit, though, that the winged eyes are kind of cool. Grade: C+

The Poses: It’s all sass in this shoot. The poses are pretty standard, but the looks she gives saves them from Kelly Kelly levels of boredom. Her eyes are intense and sexy (I never noticed how pretty here eye color is!), and though her lips still look like they’re devouring the rest of her body, she avoids emphasizing them by not doing the dreaded “fish lips” pose. Kudos for that, Jillian. Grade: B

Uniqueness: This shoot is pretty lackluster if you’re looking for something new or exciting. The poses are your standard fare, and Jillian’s ring attire (which she’s wearing here) is probably the most boring of all the Divas. Thus, adding those factors together, you have yourself a photoshoot that’s pretty “blah”. The only unique thing is that fact that Jillian actually has a new shoot. Other than that, Blahsville. Grade: C

Overall: If it’s “her way or the highway”, I’d rather take the highway. Her way of doing things, like photoshoots, obviously isn’t putting her in the forefront of the WWE’s priorities, so unless she wants to completely disappear off fans’ radars, she needs to divert from that set path. Grade: C

WWE on Candice: She Ain’t No Diva

candice3

Details are beginning to leak out on WWE’s release of former Women’s Champion, Candice Michelle and among them are some damning reports on Candice’s look. Many [including myself] will probably be shocked by this, because it seemed as though their main gripe was her injury prone status. But sources within the company have really gone all out against the ‘Go Daddy Girl’, bringing into question her look and weight — which any girl will tell you, is a major no-no.

Excerpt from one report below:

It is believed that Michelle’s less than stellar appearance at the television tapings in Los Angeles a few weeks ago ultimately sealed her fate with company officials. She had not been seen since WrestleMania, but when she arrived at the shows in Los Angeles, she didn’t look “Diva like,” and there were those who felt she was ready to leave the company and move on. As it turns out, WWE beat her to the punch by releasing her a few weeks later.

She told officials she was just about ready to return from her latest injury, but they gave very little leeway because she is a woman and there is a weight issue. The impression on her was always that she wasn’t someone with a naturally thin body, and that she had to work very hard to look the way she did, and when you get older, fighting those genetics gets much harder. In a company where the women are primarily there for their looks, some felt she didn’t have that look anymore, so they decided to let her go.

Now bear in mind this is the company that thinks we’re checking for closeups of Jillian in WWE.com photoshoots, so Candice must’ve been cracked out at that taping in Los Angeles for WWE to ‘seal the deal’. Apart from her obvious facial changes over the years [she looked HOT in 2004-2006], I don’t think Candice ever looked too bad. But then again, there were those horrible, unflattering house show candids a few months back, where you could see Candice’s gut hanging out.

I don’t know, something about this report seems a little too below the belt, even for me and I’m not even a fan of Candice. Call her out on her injuries fine, but stuff like this could’ve slipped under the radar — it seems to add more insult to injury for a girl who just got fired.

PS: Points if you got the Beyonce reference in the title =)

Congratulations to Torrie, she may not have won but that’s an incredible accomplishment for her and technically she is ‘Queen of the Jungle’.

SmackDown Spoilers: June 26th, 2009 *Edited*

Friday Night SmackDown spoilers below for the final show before The Bash.

EDIT: Now added more detailed spoilers!

Next match was Divas tag action, Alicia Fox and Michelle McCool defeat Gail Kim and Melina in maybe 6 or 7 minutes (forgot to time this one) Melina got kicked in the mouth early, and sold it for a little while. Gail finally got the hot tag after at least 5 minutes, and had a pretty good counter while on the apron; Fox (I think) went for a shoulder to the gut from inside the ring, Gail jumped it and came down on her back. Gail hit a cross body block off the top after that, but then McCool got a blind tag and hit the Styles Clash (or whatever it is she calls it) for the pin and the win. (Source: PWInsider)
