WWE Is Going Commando…

19

going-commando

… but not not in the way you might think. Along with the rumored WWE/Playboy break-up rumors, It looks like WWE is also banning Bra and Panties Matches. I’m sure this news makes fans of T&A extremely sad and fans of actual wrestling very happy.

I would love to say  that WWE made this move to make their twin women’s divisions more credible. I would love to say that WWE wants their audience to focus more on their Divas’ wrestling skills and less on their assets. I would love to say that this will be the start of a better division in general. But alas, we all know this is not the case. The move is part of WWE’s attempt to make their programming more PG. I, for one am kinda happy about this. I love scantily clad ladies as much as the next guy, but let’s keep them outta the ring please.

Anyway what’s your take on the recent ban? Take it off? Put it back on? Sound off in the comments!

SHIMMER Spotlight: Eden Black

2

You know what time it is people! Really? You don’t? Well I’ll clue you in. It’s time your weekly dose of SHIMMER goodness. Every Friday, I’ll be bringing you profiles on the hard hitting ladies of SHIMMER. Everyone from the major players like MsChif to the up and coming rookies like Ashley Lane and Portia Perez. So lets get to the good stuff, guys.

Name: Eden Black

Age: 28
Aliases: ‘ The Jezebel ‘
Entrance Theme: “Pure Rock Fury” by Clutch
Finisher(s): Garden of Eden (Triangle Choke); Blaxploitation (Crucifix Powerbomb); The Eden Project (Wheelbarrow Suplex)
Accomplishments: Real Quality Wrestling Women’s Champion (1 Time)

Eden Black dresses like the boys and she plays like one too. This flame-haired  tomboy is as notorious for her distinct choice in ring gear, as she is for her smashmouth style in the ring. Actually, her punk rock style and baggy pants are reminiscent of another redheaded veteran(Take a wild guess).

She was a smash hit in the UK, wrestling big names like Lexie Fyfe and Wesna Busic. She also advanced to the finals of the first ever ChickFight Tournament, losing to Cheerleader Melissa. After coming to a draw against Allison Danger in a title defense, Danger recruited black as a regular in SHIMMER.

Black took SHIMMER by storm, picking up wins over likes of Rain, Amber O’Neal and The Minnesota Homewrecking Crew. She was even booked in a tournament to name the first ever SHIMMER champion. Unfortunately, she was eliminated in the first round by SHIMMER veteran Lacey. her last SHIMMER match to date teamed her with Daizee Haze and MsChif to take on The International Homewrecking Crew in a winning effort.

Voulez-Vous Lutter Avec Moi Ce Soir

Oh yes, we did break out the “Lady Marmalade” lyrics (with an obvious modification). Though it’s no wonder why – Maryse looks exquisite in her new photoshoot, “Red Hot”. She’s gorgeous as always, and her ring coat, which would probably look ridiculous on the street, looks strangely chic when she wears it. The studs, sleeveless-ness, and lack of feathers make it less of a Candice Michelle ripoff and more supervillian-esque. She seriously looks like she jumped out of a comic book, and in this case, that’s a good thing. She is an evil woman with a thick French accent, after all. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think she originated in some 60s-era comic book. Alright, you look fabulous Maryse.. Now get back in the ring.

Quick Note: Status of Melina-Perez.org

Just a quick little self-indulgent note: Melina-Perez.org is currently down (*cough*server is being a bitch*cough*), but I’m working on moving it to a more suitable server. The site will be back up and running ASAP.

WrestleMania 25: What, Who, Why?

Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time in many years I am officially stumped. There are so many possibilities for WrestleMania 25 and no clear indication as to what will go down at the biggest pay per view in WWE history. Will it be a Women’s Championship match? A Divas Championship match? Will Trish Stratus return to challenge a current Diva?

The Road to WrestleMania is on and unlike previous years, we don’t really know what direction WWE is going in this year. But I, for one, am  hoping for two matches: one for the Women’s Championship and one for the Divas Championship.

We know who the champs are, so who should challenge them? Vote below:

Oooh, Foxy Lady..

Alicia Fox looks so great in this photoshoot, I can’t help but hear that classic Jimi Hendrix song in my head.. It’s fitting, then, that this shoot is titled “Foxy Diva”. She looks kind of retro, wearing a ripped top and headband, but it doesn’t look gimmicky. You wouldn’t think posing in a hallway would make for good pictures, but it’s pretty interesting, as they’re using the one-point perspective of the narrow hallway to produce dynamic pictures. Not that Alicia needs camera tricks – she’s gorgeous, and even though her posing is a little dull.. Okay, it’s A LOT dull, but she manages to pull off a great photoshoot regardless.

What If?: Alicia Fox, Mickie James and Candice

3

You guys ever wonder what could have been in WWE? Ever think that a few less ‘future endeavors’ would have made a difference in today’s division? Ever think of how things would be without the Diva Search? No? Well, don’t worry cause I’ve done the thinking for you. Here’s a couple of circumstances that woulda, coulda or shoulda created an alternate reality in Diva world.

WHAT IF: Alicia Fox had stuck around on SmackDown?
As we all know Alicia Fox was a integral part of a major storyline last year. She was the homewrecking wedding planner in Edge and Vickie Guerrero’s broken marriage. However, after her interference at ‘The Great American Bash’, Alicia disappeared from our TV screens and reappeared on ECW a few months later.

I’m sure if Alicia had stuck with Edge on Smackdown she’d definitely be a much bigger star than she is today. Being matched with a top star would have had her ringside for plenty of main events and high profile matches. Not to mention Vickie would have done her damnest to make Alicia’s life on Smackdown a living hell. Vickie might’ve even ‘hired’ a Diva to take her out.

WHAT IF: Mickie James had debuted in her original gimmick?
If you’re as big a Mickie James fan as I am you might know that she originally debuted on Sunday Night Heat in a non-televised match. She was the manager of the current Intercontinental Champion, CM Punk and was sporting a sleazy punk rock gimmick. However management didn’t like the combo and shipped their asses back to OVW.

All I have to say is THANK GOD! That decision was the best thing to ever happen to Mickie’s career. That cheesy gimmick probably would’ve been her downfall. All most we would have seen of Mickie would’ve have been at ringside, and she if ever did get to wrestle I’m sure that WWE wouldn’t have let a lowly valet hold championship gold. Whew! I guess she dodged that bullet as she’s argubly the most popular diva in WWE today and a four- time Women’s Champion to boot.

WHAT IF: Candice hadn’t broken her collarbone?
Two years ago Candice  Michelle was on the top of the world. She was a former women’s champion, the only former Diva Search contestant to hold gold and involved in a high profile program with ‘The Glamazon’ Beth Phoenix. She was WWE’s golden girl. Then she hit a roadblock in the form of a broken clavicle. Her position in WWE has been falling ever.

Had Candice not been injured I think she would probably be the number two face on Raw behind Mickie. While she was never the best at wrestling, she was improving week by week. I’m sure if she kept on that track she could have won the belt at least one more time(as much as I hate to admit it)

Her absence from the ring and lack of training once she was healed resulted in major ring rust and a rebroken collarbone. By the time she rehealed the damage had been done. The fans stopped caring and became enamored with a fresh face in Kelly Kelly. Tough Break, Candice.

That’s it for this week, folks. However, the Reader’s Choice edition of ‘What If?’ will go online later this week, submit your suggestions after the cut:

Raw Redux – February 2, 2009

Raw Recap
After losing the Women’s Championship just over a week ago, Beth Phoenix had something to prove when she faced off against former nemesis Candice. Also on hand to ‘take out the trash’ was Rosa Mendes. And could a new feud be blossoming between Mickie James and Layla? Layla teamed with her man, William Regal in a tag match against Mickie and CM Punk.

Erin:
Seeing two Diva matches on Raw always makes me happy – it shows that the WWE is actually investing in them. However, these matches didn’t seem to advance any storylines. Even so, they were pretty entertaining to watch.

Mickie & CM Punk vs. Layla & William Regal was decent.. For some reason, Mickie and Punk make a good duo, though I pray to God they don’t try to pin her with him legitimately – poor Mickie’s had so many failed “relationships” on screen it makes her look a tad ridiculous. She did well in this match, balancing out Layla’s frenzy (it looked like she really knocked Mickie out in the beginning!) and playing the typical babyface role. Layla seemed a bit too spastic.. It’s good she’s a heel, because she can chalk it up to evil-ness, but she still needs to tone it down a bit. I’d like to see Layla and Mickie have their own little feud – it’d be nice to give Layla something to do rather than be dragged around by Regal, and I’d hate to see Mickie rot on the sidelines.

Beth vs. Candice was odd, because I was sure that Melina would bust in at any moment. She didn’t, and we had a relatively normal match, with Candice pretty much doing the job. What makes that more obvious than having Rosa drag and toss her out of the ring, like she’s something to be discarded? Don’t get me wrong – I don’t like it. I’d much prefer that she turn heel as the rumors have been saying. That way, she can turn her recent shortcomings into a reason to go all “bad girl” on us. And as an added plus, we probably would be spared her terrible ring entrance. That’s definitely worth mulling over. I’ve always hated it – and seeing her do that “heart pump” move last night was too bizarre to ignore.

I’m curious as to why they left off the Women’s Champion, though they may not even be building up for something until WrestleMania (No Way Out for the Smackdown girls?), which is 60+ days away, so I guess there’s no rush. Still, a small ambush on Beth and Rosa would have helped keep the interest in their fued alive. Eh, there’s always next week, I guess…

Melanie:
Last night’s show was almost like, “Meet some new faces…” Three of the four staples of Raw over the past couple of months were conspicuous by their absence, while three faces we haven’t seen in a while got a chance to shine. I’m all for that, but I don’t think it’s cool to drop the Women’s Champion from the show altogether. She could easily have been out doing commentary for the Beth-Candice match.

Anyway, kicking off the action was a mixed tag team match designed to prolong the feud between Punk and Regal, but we’re all more interested in seeing Mickie and Layla, I am anyway. Diva Dirt is very Layla-inclined, so I marked out a lot when I saw her all booted for this match. I gotta say, this was standard mixed tag fare and it wasn’t anything to write home about. I’m really hoping Layla gets a singles match one of these days, because she never seems to do much in these tag matches; hopefully this was the start of a mini-feud with Layla and Mickie in the coming weeks. Layla looked really aggressive and plays a great heel in the ring, but I would need to see her in a singles match to judge her wrestling. There wasn’t much technicality in it between these two, though that double clothesline was pretty good.

Later we saw Beth go one on one with Candice. Considering that most of their matches against each other so far have either been on pay per view or at the very least, a high profile part of Raw, this was almost a ‘throwaway’ on last night’s show. But then again, it seems as though Candice is but a jobber at this point. We all knew going into it, this would be a squash and that’s what it was.

I’ve never really enjoyed any of the Beth-Candice matches, the two seem so mismatched, it’s hard to take seriously. Some decent ring-work from Candice, I have to admit. She seemed more on her game than in the past but at this point, I don’t think there’s any salvaging her career; the crowd were absolutely dead for her and we got to see live in HD what a recent house show audience got to see: an out of shape, tubby Candice. Admitted, most women would still kill to have her body but as an athlete that’s not a good look for the Diva. And I don’t know why, but her attire seems to keep getting worse: bright red and yellow? The stars and the font on the ‘Defining Beauty’ look like they were created in Microsoft Word’s Word Art section.

I think it’s pretty telling of where Candice is at, when the crowd are absolutely dead for her. Not even a boo. Fans seem to be tired of her; Kelly, Mickie and more recently Melina seem to have the cheers locked down. I’ve always seen Candice as a one hit wonder/fluke. And what better way to add the exclamation point than have the newbie throw you out the ring.

Everything’s Not Lost…

4

Mickie James may have lost her match last night, but she has no reason to be down – she’s got a jam-packed new photoshoot to her name today! You see, WWE.com apparently shoehorned two photoshoots together, and since I’m too lazy to think of a better name, I’ll stick with theirs: “Very Violet”. Clearly that name is attributed to the second half of it, but whatever.. Speaking of the violet, I’d love the dress, if only it was a bit longer. At that length it looks a little too hoochy. It’s probably make a gorgeous gown, but the day a Diva wears a gown is the day pigs fly and hell freezes over. The first part is considerably more relaxed – I really dig the ripped jeans, and she can get away with going barefoot in pairing with the whole bohemian look. If I had to choose between the two looks, I’d definitely say the jeans look best – it fits Mickie’s persona so much more, and the relaxed nature of the shoot makes her look is so much sexier than showing lots of leg.

FCW Divas To Get Golden

It looks like some lucky FCW Diva may be sporting championship gold in the near future. For those of us who don’t follow FCW, last month they began a “Queen Of FCW” tournament. Participants include some of our newest WWE Divas, as well as a few new faces.

While there was never any mention of an actual title I can’t see any other reason to go through so much trouble. Maybe I’m jumping the gun a bit, but I see the winner of this tourney getting more than a crown and a pat on the back. I have my money on Angela Fong or Wesley Holiday, as they’re the only Divas that haven’t been called up yet. Here’s the brackets and the first three quarterfinal matches.

Quarter Finals:
Angela def. Rosa Mendes
Girl from Mexico def. Saylor James
Alicia Fox def. Jenny Cash
Tiffany def. Wesley Holiday

Semi Finals
Angela vs. Girl from Mexico
Alicia Fox vs. Tiffany

Candice Returns From Exile on Raw

16

It’ll be former Women’s Champion vs former Women’s Champion tonight, when Candice makes her in-ring return after a two month banishment to the backstage area. The Diva will take on her arch rival, Beth Phoenix in singles action on tonight’s Raw.

Can we say ‘squash match’?

WWE vs Hollywood: Wrestling With the Stars

2

We are about 65 days or so away from WWE WrestleMania XXV, the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania. Each year, the WWE has invited celebrity guests to be a part of the event. Last year, Kim Kardashian was the night’s host and Snoop Dogg sat ringside for the Bunnymania match. This year’s celebrity guest is actor Mickey Rourke, who is rumored to be going in a one on one match with Chris Jericho. Other such celebrities who competed against our WWE wrestlers include boxer Louis Mayweather who competed against the Big Show and Kevin “Fed-Ex” Federline, who wrestled John Cena, though that was on a New Year’s edition of Raw.

To add a little spin to this, I decided to do a fun weekend blog by making my own compilation of a few celebrity vs Divas matches that I think would be a spectacle to see. If you’ve got any other ideas, feel free to add along in the comments!

Match #1: The Olsen Twins vs The Bella Twins
celeb-olsensIt’s a battle of the twins! The dynamic duo of the Bella Twins would be a great opponent to take on Hollywood’s most famous twins, billionaires Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. There’s no telling what kind of crazy twin tricks these four will get into. The main people I’d feel sorry for are Tazz and JR; those two can never figure out which Bella is which, though it is really easy to do so! God help them when there are 2 sets of identical twins in the ring!! They’d probably start talking about something else like they tend to do when they can’t figure out who is who. I see a lot of switching without legal tags and possibly some going under the ring. However, there can only be one winning team, and when it comes down to it, Mary-Kate and Ashley would be too upset that their precious line of Walmart clothing was getting ruined to focus on the match.
Winners: The Bella Twins

Match #2: Britney Spears vs Jillian:
celeb-olsensThis would hands down be the match of the century. The Queen of Pop, Britney Spears vs. the ultimate wannabe, Jillian. Somehow, I think this match will quickly turn into a dance-off, and knowing Jillian, she will come out singing and looking like Britney Spears. Annoyed and ticked off at the horrible comparison, Britney Spears will shut Jillian down, especially if she has access to an umbrella. After the match, the infamous hair clippers will probably be used on Jillian and put a screeching end to Jillian’s singing career.
Winner: Britney Spears

Candice is On Rocky Ground

10

Heh, see what I did there? Made you look! Anywho, Candice is looking a whole lot more subdued in her new photoshoot, “On the Rocks”. I have to say I certainly prefer it to her last photoshoot – it’s definitely got more subtlety to it, and she looks so much more natural. Candice is someone who benefits from more relaxed setting, as she looks her best when it’s not obvious she’s not trying too hard to look “sexy”. And heck, she’s got more clothes on that most Divas will see in their entire lifetime – sounds like a win to me. Perhaps she can turn heel, as the rumors have been suggesting, and we’ll see serious Candice more often.

Snow Day: Random Geekgasm

2

London has been snowed in! I’ve never seen snow like this in years and it’s a cause to celebrate! And while this has nothing to do with the Divas, I’m gonna post it anyway because it’s Snow Day people! For those of you who didn’t watch the Superbowl or live outside of the US:

All I can say is gasp.

As you may have noticed, we’ve made a lot of changes to Diva Dirt this week in order to plan for the future and keep going forward. From launching our own Facebook and Twitter pages, taking on new staff and now we have made some subtle changes to the site too.

First off, I’m pleased to announce that Erin has agreed to become our new Managing Editor and will be taking on a really hands on approach to the behind the scenes work here at the site. Erin has been with me from day one and continues to give her all to Diva Dirt.

Secondly, we’re pleased to announce that we have hired Steven full time as a staff writer. Steven has connected really well with you guys as well as myself and Erin, we really enjoy his blogs and are thrilled that he has accepted our offer. Meanwhile, Hassan and Tara, two of the other interns will be with us for another week. Be sure to comment on their blogs and let us know what you think of their blogs. Your support helps us make our decisions and I know both of them are hoping for a full time position, like Steven.

I’m sure this will please all the potential blogistas out there: We are now accepting applications for employment all the time, rather than opening it up every now and again. To become a part of the site you can click here.

Finally all of our writers can now be contacted individually, for full contact details click here.

Kurt Warner Would Be Proud

As any American could tell you, tonight the biggest NFL game of the year takes place – the Super Bowl! Of course, the WWE had to celebrate the occasion with a photoshoot, dressing up Brie and Nikki Bella in opposing team paraphernalia. Brie’s sporting the Steelers garb, while Nikki is siding with the Cardinals. All in all, it’s a pretty cheesy photoshoot, but the “revealing sports uniform” thing has been done to death, so it’s not really a discredit to them. Though, I’m not sure what kind of pose is going on in the photo above; is Brie trying to lodge the foam football into Nikki’s abdomen? I’m not 100$ sure, but I think that could result in a penalty..

SHIMMER Spotlight: Lacey

9

Over the last week I’ve been hooking you guys up with the 411 on everyone’s favorite all-girl wrestling promotion, SHIMMER. I’m glad you guys are enjoying these ladies in action. Support them and buy the DVDs if you can. Now that that’s out of the way, it’s time for one last(?) SHIMMER Spotlight.

Name: Lacey
Age: 25
Aliases: The Lovely Lacey
Entrance Theme: “The Game” by Disturbed
Finisher(s): TKO; Implant DDT; Lungblower
Accomplishments: FLWA Women’s Champion (1 time); MIW Women’s Champion (1 time); NWA Midwest Women’s Champion (1 time)
Years Active: 2000 – 2008

I’m about to make a statement that is really gonna piss some people off. Lacey is possibly THE best heel in women’s wrestling ever. Oh yeah, I went there. Anyone who has seen this young lady work the crowd would be hard pressed to disagree. Sure Beth Phoenix can play the powerful, dominant heel and Maryse can be the sexy snob, but no one in WWE or TNA can make people love to hate them like Lacey.

Don’t let her pretty face fool you. From insulting the fans at ringside to spitting water on them (and not in the cool HHH way), Lacey encompasses what it means to be a heel. I’ve even seen her rip up some money (isn’t that illegal?) that a smart-ass fan threw at her.

SmackDown Watch: January 30, 2009

Hurrah! Looks like the Divas weren’t entirely left off last night’s SmackDown broadcast! Returning to SmackDown after being attacked by Stone Cold Michelle McCool three weeks ago, Eve found herself back in her role of backstage interviewer. However, things got interesting when Stone Cold Michelle McCool turned up to confront the Diva:

EVE AND MICHELLE BACKSTAGE

I was actually shocked to see Eve slap Michelle. But this whole segment was ruined when: A) After the slap, Eve didn’t just go crazy and try and beat Michelle and B) Michelle did nothing to retaliate and walked off. Kinda dumb.

Non-spoiler spoiler: We know that these two will compete in a match next week on SmackDown, so at least we got a little teaser to play off of. Jury’s out on whether Eve is half-decent in the ring, though.

What If?

21

You guys ever wonder what could have been in WWE? Ever think that a few less ‘future endeavors’ would have made a difference in today’s division? Ever think of how things would be without the Diva Search? No? Well, don’t worry cause I’ve done the thinking for you. Here’s a couple of circumstances that woulda, coulda or shoulda created an alternate reality in Diva World.

WHAT IF: Beth hadn’t had her jaw shattered by Victoria?
Remember Beth Phoenix‘s first appearance on WWE television? She was a scorned ex-friend of Mickie James and came to the aid of (then injured)Trish Stratus. She seemed to be on a roll until Victoria bitch slapped her jaw to pieces. Ouch!  She was out of action for a year and came back as a heel.

Would she still be a face if it hadn’t been for the injury? I think not. WWE has a tendency to make their really strong girls into heels. She would’ve probably turned on Trish after a while, and started on her journey to being WWE’s dominant diva.

Would Mickie still be a face? Of course! Did you hear those cheers at ‘Mania even when she was a heel? They even booed Trish for her. She was destined to be a fan favorite.

Lastly, if Beth hadn’t gotten injured we would know why Beth was so pissed at Mickie to begin with. That still bugs me to this day!

WHAT IF: There was no Diva Search?
There are two sides to this coin. If there was no Diva Search we all could have been spared watching countless matches by girls who had no talent for wrestling or were training on the job. No Christy Hemme, No Maria and No Tiffany. On the other hand, the lack of the Diva Search would have meant No Michelle McCool, No Maryse, and No Bella Twins (is that really a bad thing?). Most importantly no Diva’s Championship. Without the Diva Search, WWE probably wouldn’t have enough Divas to justify having a second title.

WHAT IF: Trish and Lita has never retired?
Trish and Lita, two of the only three women to main event RAW. Arguably the best Divas to ever step foot in a WWE ring. But would they be able to stand out in the current roster of Divas. I think so. In fact I think Trish and Lita could have helped groom this generation of Divas into solid in-ring competitors. I could see them taking Kelly Kelly, Candice, Maria and the like and really whipping them into shape. If they were still around maybe this era of Divas would just as ‘golden’ as the last.

What do you guys think? Any other events that could have changed Diva History? Comment!

Eve Set to Debut In the Ring, But Does She Deserve It?

eveRecently Smackdown Diva Eve has begun to wrestle at WWE house shows and is set to make an in-ring debut on Smackdown next week (see Smackdown spoilers for more details), wether or not she deserves to have more of an in-ring role is up for debate, personally I feel she deserves it. Eve has wrestled against Natalya, Beth Phoenix and Maryse at house shows; she has also teamed up with Candice, Michelle McCool and the Bella Twins. It seems the WWE wants to prepare her for the ring and test out her wrestling ability to see if she is worthy for WWE television, judging by her performance in her first televised FCW match, she is capable but will need to be carried by a veteran.

It is about time that she had a more in-ring role, since she has been in the WWE for just over a year now. Other divas have entered the ring after less than a years training, such as Maria and Ashley – some might say that wasn’t a smart move. Eve however shows promise, her first televised FCW match displayed Eve with some interesting wrestling skills, some might say they were superior than Maria‘s or Ashley‘s at the time of their WWE debuts.

A number of sites have also been reporting that she is a decent performer in the ring. The televised FCW match showed us that Eve can grasp the basics of wrestling; she can carry another wrestler, sell moves, execute manoeuvres and tell a story during the match. She has also proved on Smackdown that she can act, and grasp the basics of the wrestling business; she also has decent microphone skills. When Michelle attacked her she displayed in-depth acting ability, she genuinely looked like she was in pain. Judging by her backstage interviewing she can also cut a decent promo.

It is likely Eve will be built as an underdog, like so many before her, but she will come out on top eventually. She wants revenge against Michelle for attacking her, and wants to prove to the WWE universe she can do more than interview. The angle of wanting to prove she can do more than wrestle is however unique.

Natalya has mainly been put against Eve in house shows because she can carry her through a match; Eve has been mainly winning via roll up. Because Natalya is jobbing to Eve in house shows matches some fans have expressed anger, I myself think it is a smart move, Eve is being put over and carried so she gains popularity and becomes better in the ring. What’s left for her is to create her own diverse move set and character so she stands out over the other cookie cutter faces.

If Eve wants to wrestle, I say let her! The more the merrier, but only when she and WWE management believe that she is ready. Let’s hope WWE doesn’t make the same mistake that they did with Maria and Ashley and push her into a situation she is not ready for, resulting in sloppy wrestling. She would also be quite an addition to the divas roster because she is not the stereotypical diva and brings some degree of racial diversity to the division.

I’m sure the match with her and Michelle would be decent for a debut match, because there’s storyline development and Michelle can carry Eve. What I don’t like is Michelle taking all the spot light, but that’s a different story. By having Michelle win, Eve can take the underdog angle, and train and one day beat her – which will result in much excitement from the fans.

For her next match she should go against Natalya, I do not want to see Natalya job but Eve needs some building since she is set to job against Michelle. It might also be a good idea for her to have some matches on ECW against Katie Lea; Katie could carry her through a match, but again we’d be sacrificing a talented heel to a diva-search rookie wrestler. With ECW’s short programming and questionable booking, that isn’t about to happen anytime soon. In the past Smackdown divas have been used on ECW so why not put her on ECW while she trains so she can get some exposure?

Some great talent has come out of the diva search, with practice, passion and determination why couldn’t Eve be the next big thing to come from it? just like Maryse, Christy Hemme and Michelle McCool among others.

What do you think?  Does Eve deserve to be in the ring?

Trish Wants to Appear at WrestleMania

17

Now is the time of the year, with countless feuds gearing up, that everyone’s speculating on what matches could be taking place at WrestleMania. Melina vs. Beth? Maryse vs. Gail? (We wish!) Well, if Trish Stratus had her way, she’d be filling that spot. In a recent interview, Trish discussed her recent Raw appearance and whether or not she’d like to get back in the ring once again:

“I would definitely like the chance to finish off what I started with Beth in a one-on-one scenario,” Stratus said on Slam Wrestling. “No tagging out, no Santino shenanigans, just one dominant female against the other.”

Stratus says she hasn’t been contacted by WWE for a follow-up appearance at WrestleMania, but she would like the chance to appear.

And it’s not just Beth Phoenix that Trish has her eye on. Natalya‘s on her mind as well:

“Nattie I think is going to be a major player soon, given the right chance to do what she does best,” Stratus said. “Everyone knows how much I respect the Hart lineage, using Bret’s sharpshooter in my retirement match, wearing the pink and black boots in Toronto … it’s not a coincidence. So I would be honoured to face someone who is a part of that legacy and I have no doubt in my mind that we could blow away an audience.”

Personally, I think the idea of Trish Stratus appearing at WrestleMania (match or not) is a bad one. That’s a spot that the girls on the roster fight tooth-and-nail for, busting their butts the whole year to get that special push. Having Trish take that spot seems selfish on her part. I mean, a one-off appearance on the biggest show of the year? That’s a lot to ask for. I’d much prefer the current crop of girls to take advantage of that mega-push than a former Diva that’s not going to stick around afterwards. What do you think – would you like to see Trish Stratus wrestle at WrestleMania 25?

Katie Lea’s Got Passion

6

Katie Lea‘s new photoshoot “Purple Passion” isn’t exactly typical fare from her – sure, there’s still the intense eyes and seriousness, but she’s showing more diversity, mixing in a few different poses. She’ll never be one to pose all smiley or do the “duck lips”, and for that I’m thankful. I’m not big on the outfit – purple’s not one of my favorite colors, and the cut of the top is a bit unflattering. The bottom half though, with the black pants and thigh-high boots, look excellent in her crouching poses. It’s easy to see that she’s one of the most eccentric Divas in the WWE, and you can tell she doesn’t work hard to be perceived as different or sexy – she just is. I don’t get the whiff of “try too hard” like I do from other Divas, and maybe that’s why she appeals to me so much.

The Dawn of a New Era

16

Following her WWE Women’s Championship victory at the Royal Rumble over Beth Phoenix, Melina was interviewed about coming around full-circle following an injury to becoming a champion. Before the interview was over, Melina said this about the new age of women’s wrestling:

And what I also wanted to say is Trish wrote a blog about an end of an era. And it’s true; it was the end of an era when Victoria retired. But I’m hoping that we can create a new era of women’s championship reigns. And whoever wins this  [championship belt] next; I hope it’s not anytime soon as I’m going to put up a fight!

What Melina said really got me thinking. 2009 really has been all about new beginnings for the WWE Divas. The so called “Golden Age” of Divas has come and gone, and we are now embarking on a new era. I’m not quite positive what this era of Divas will be known as, but that is for history to decide. It got me thinking how Divas like Kelly Kelly are constantly being called “the next Trish Stratus,” and as much as this is what it may seem, I don’t particularly like the comparison. I think Kelly Kelly is the new Kelly Kelly. Trish Stratus wasn’t some model that the WWE found in a magazine and completely transformed from a dancer to an extremely talented wrestler. In fact, to be completely honest, I never would have guessed Kelly Kelly would have made it this far. She seemed like some pretty face all about T&A and wasn’t even a really fantastic dancer. I think it goes to show that what we need to do is not focus and dwell on the past age of Divas, but look to the future with the Divas of today. Of course, Kelly Kelly should take notes from those before her, but with time she will, in my opinion, be a top championship contendor. Just look at Maryse. Who was she one year ago? A blonde who taped segments in a bath tub welcoming us back to SmackDown. As pretty as she was, if you would’ve told me that she would be holding WWE gold one year later, I probably wouldn’t have believed it.

I think what I’m trying to get at is that there’s really no telling what the Divas of today are truly capable of. Most of them are relatively new and haven’t had the wrestling experience that Divas like Ivory, Molly Holly, Victoria, and Jacqueline had. Who’s to say that Kelly Kelly or Melina won’t become an 8 or 9-time WWE Women’s/Diva’s Champion? If that is to happen, then the Divas of the future will then have to be dubbed “the next Kelly Kelly” or “the next Melina.”

2009 is off to a pretty great start; I for one am anxious to see what the future holds! Who do y’all think of today’s roster is the most likely to leave behind an amazing legacy??
