2008: Who Had the Most Wins & Losses?

12

Here’s some little fun facts I came across today: win/loss records for 2008! So which Diva notched up the most wins? Who lost the most? (As if it isn’t obvious)

Well drumroll please… Beth Phoenix and Mickie James are on equal standing, with the most wins in 2008, accumulating 17 a piece. Meanwhile Jillian continued her jobbing ways in 2008, notching up 13 losses followed by Victoria with 12 losses.

Elsewhere, it’s interesting to note that new Divas Champion and SmackDown’s rising Diva of ’08, Maryse notched up more losses than wins: 7 wins and 12 losses. Former Divas Champ, Michelle McCool just about breaks even with around the same number of wins and losses.

Please note: Televised matches only.

Get Listed: Matches We’d Love to See in 2009

8

No doubt, you’ve probably been reading a lot of ‘Best of…’ or ‘In 2009…’ lists on various sites, blogs and outlets. From rising celebrities to the best movies of 2008, there’s a lot out there. So why not add a few more? Over the next few days, we’ll be making some lists of our own! We’re kicking off today with matches that we’d love to see in 2009! Very simple premise really, so let’s get stuck in…

Matches We’d Love to See in 2009
With more competent Divas on the roster than ever before, there’s so many match possibilities: on Raw, on SmackDown and even some crossover potential! With so many potential matches, Diva Dirt narrows down the ones we want to see the most (in no particular order).

Michelle McCool vs Mickie James
These two Divas shared an unlikely chemistry when they faced off in the Raw vs SmackDown traditional elimination match at Survivor Series. In fact, they share (or shared rather) a lot in common. Until Michelle decided she wasn’t that nice anymore, she was the SmackDown equivalent of Mickie – the fan favourite, the good girl. These two had a pretty technical tussle in that match and whet my appetite for a singles match somewhere down the road. With Michelle now a heel, it would be even more viable.

Candice vs Kelly Kelly
In 2008, Candice pretty much lost her spot as the golden girl model-turned-wrestler to Kelly Kelly. By 2008’s end and 2009’s start, Candice really has drifted into obscurity. With a similar history and appeal, they’re pretty much fighting for the same spot, how about we just let these two duke it out and find out who’s really worthy of it? My money’s on Kelly, who’s already showing more potential than Candice. And cue the crazy Candice mark…

Gail Kim vs Natalya
Sure she’s not even on the roster yet, but it’s only a matter of time before Gail finally shows her pretty lil face on Friday Night SmackDown. And the Diva I want her to face off with more than anyone else is fellow Canadian, Natalya. I just think these two would share a fantastic chemistry. Natalya is unlike any female wrestler the WWE has seen before, she can be technical, be powerful and shows a lot of in-ring psychology. And I think of all the Divas in WWE, Gail would be able to respond the best and really put on a great match with Natalya. It could be WWE’s version of Gail vs Kong, with Gail the high-flyer to Natalya’s Kong-esque powerhouse.

Maryse vs Melina
Maryse was without a doubt, the wrestling success story of 2008 and quite possibly the best heel among the Divas right now. The arrogance and cockiness she exudes somewhat reminds me of Melina during her heel days. Throw ’em in a ring together and I’m sure they could put on a great match; both of them really look full of life and passionate when they’re wrestling.

Beth Phoenix vs Natalya
Putting aside the criminal underuse of Natalya, this could be an intense, physical and even a brutal match up.

Layla vs anyone
Unfortunately, Layla hasn’t had much ringtime in a long time. She started out 2008 with matches here and there but since, has been involved less and less. Considering she’s been out of action for so long, it’ll be interesting to see if she’s as good in the ring as she was then – like her former ECW rival, Kelly, she showed a lot of potential. It’d be interesting to see how these two fare in the ring against each other in 2009. And despite finishing first, Layla really drew the short straw in the 2006 Diva Search, fellow contestant Maryse is now the Divas Champion! How about sticking Layla in the ring with fellow ’06ers, Maryse and Rosa Mendes?

Michelle McCool’s Got A Message For You: “Go ‘Eff Yourselves!”

16

Okay, so I needed a reason to get back into blogging… and I’m using Michelle McCool as that portal between you and me. So, sue me. Original I am not. But it just goes to show that our dear ladies, Melanie and Erin, pour their heart and soul (hell, why not just add faith in there for good measure) into this website, so by the time I find something news-worthy, low and behold… it’s already up. I’m cool with being the special-Olympic member on the roster. It just makes me all that much more special. Durr…

So, back to what counts: the news. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, ya’ll. A certain country bumpkin’ decided to sound off via her WWE: Fan Nation account.

Of course, I’m referring to Michelle McCool.

Now, I know there are a whole lot of us that bitch, piss and moan about the Divas and Knockouts who blog about the same exact thing. I mean, seriously? They usually sound like poor little Meredith Grey from ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. “Pick me. Choose me. Love me.”

Now, you know as well as I do, we’re partial to our favorites. And let’s face it, it’s no secret: Michelle is to me, as Melina and Torrie are to the other troublesome duo. But ‘McCruel’ (as I like to refer to her these days, lovin’ the heel turn, thank you very much), does bring up a whole bunch of valid points.

Let me break two ‘Hot Topics’ down for you, mmkay? Just because we know a good majority of you will slam her with a quick-wit reply, just to find purpose in your lives – but I still love a good portion of you anyway:

– McCool talks about ‘fans’ complaining about her move set and finishers; she’s unoriginal and a ‘thief.’ To which she responds: “Just think about the following moves, who “created” them and who has used them and who might use them now. Then, take a sec and determine who you choose to get mad at for using them and who you choose to love for using them? (Oh the decisions you have to make…. – insert sarcasm here)”

– McCool also goes into a tangent about having been dubbed “A Diva Search Reject” and now “McCool Is Uncool”: “If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it ten more. Yes, yes, yes – I am a diva search reject. I’m a diva search reject who has TRUE passion for this business and, on a whim, (somewhat of a dare) decided to chase her dream.”

Attached are the two blogs in which Michelle made last night. Call her delirious or unworthy of her position on the roster, it’s quite evident the women doesn’t give a flyin’ duck anymore.

But we still do, don’t we??!

Maryse Comments on Injury

4

maryse9

The French poodle speaks! Divas Champ, Maryse has spoken for the first time on her knee injury last weekend. Here’s what the four-time Year-End Award winner had to say:

Last week while performing in the ring in Raleigh, North Carolina i hit a bad move an dislocated my right knee cap. While backstage it took approximatly 35 to 40 minutes to replace it, my knee cap was completly out. No surgery will be needed. I would like to thank Dc. Martha Dodson and our special trainer Larry Heck to save my leg, they really did. Thank you sooo much!!! I want to let all my fans know that im doing great and doing rehabilitation every day in Los Angeles where i live. Im recovering really fast. Thanks for all the support !!!

As we posted last week, Maryse isn’t expected to miss much ring time at all. Let’s hope she’s back on our screens at next week’s SmackDown tapings!

Matches For Tonight’s Raw

11

WWE.com has confirmed that tonight’s Raw will see two Divas matches. First off, Kelly Kelly will face Jillian in a singles match.

Secondly, Melina teams up with Goldust to take on Santino and Beth Phoenix in a mixed tag team match.

I’m Your Biggest Fan, I’ll Follow You Until You Love Me

I’m your biggest fan
I’ll follow you until you love me

Baby there’s no other superstar
You know that I’ll be your
Papa paparazzi

Promise I’ll be kind
But I won’t stop until that boy is mine
Baby you’ll be famous
Chase you down until you love me
Papa paparazzi

– Lady GaGa, ‘Paparazzi’

So here I am jamming to my favourite Lady GaGa song and I realise it reminds me of the current storyline unfolding on Raw, with Beth Phoenix and superfan, Rosa Mendes – FCW’s Roucka. And then it strikes me, we haven’t really weighed in on this whole storyline here at Diva Dirt. So allow me to correct that oversight…

I have to say, I’m quite enjoying this angle unfolding week-by-week. I think it’s quite impressive (for once) of WWE’s Creative team to manage to intertwine two storylines and have them both be compelling. In the foreground, we have Melina vs Beth and in the background, we have this plot unfolding with Rosa too. Who knew Steph and co. could walk and chew gum at the same time?

I’m really enjoying this storyline because for the first time in a long time, I have no idea where it’s going. I know this is a similar plot to what WWE has done in the past: Sable-Tori, Trish-Mickie. But I think most Diva fans have more memories of the latter, I have to say I found the Trish-Mickie storyline pretty predictable. We always knew Mickie would turn on Trish and it dragged, I have to admit. But here, I honestly don’t know where this angle will go. I do see a match between these two at WrestleMania 25; while it would be cool to see a long storyline finally climax at ‘Mania, I’m not sure how I feel about Rosa coming in as a newbie and getting this ‘Mania slot. I would have loved to see Melina vs Beth at the biggest pay per view of the year, I feel Melina or Mickie James really deserve a spot at the event. In that sense, there is some predictability – Beth vs Rosa at ‘Mania – but at the same time, there’s a slight chance it may not go that way. Since the angle is in the early stages, who knows?

I’m really intrigued and captivated thus far and I just hope that this all works out. I’m glad WWE is finally putting some effort into their Diva booking but lo-and-behold… people are still complaining. When I look at comments and read message boards, people are still complaining that it’s a rehash of Trish-Mickie etc. Sometimes people, you just gotta eat some humble pie and sit quietly and watch.

What do you think? Interested or are you a complainer lol? Discuss!

SmackDown Watch: January 2nd, 2009

It’s the first SmackDown of 2009 and Michelle McCool‘s getting it off to a bang. Watch her backstage and in-ring segments below:

EVE INTERVIEWS MICHELLE

MICHELLE ‘APOLOGISES’ TO MARIA & EVE

I think this was nicely done, indeed. Okay, neither will win any Emmys for acting but I think they did a good job. I know fans like to ride Michelle, but I think her acting was good here. I just don’t see Candice pulling this off… just sayin’. I really liked the in-ring segment, it looked really believable.

This is the first time we’ve really seen Eve getting the crap kicked out of her and she sold well. But her facial expressions were rather ghastly. I felt as though I was staring into a big ole cave, the way she had her mouth gaping wide open. She actually seemed genuinely in pain, I’m sure I saw some tears. Either she was really feeling the pain or she’s a good actress. But judging from her tag team match in FCW, I think it’s the former, she just doesn’t look ring-ready. As someone pointed out in the comments of that blog, she looked winded during the match and now she looks uncomfortable here too. I think she sold well, but it just looked as though she was in agony.

Oh Michelle, You’re So McCool *Cough*

18

As if Michelle McCool doesn’t get enough shtick as it is… she just can’t help but make it worse for herself. You guys sure love to rant and rave about her having less personality than a brick wall. Michelle worked her first house show as a heel this past weekend, teaming up with Natalya against the Bella Twins. But even as a heel, her routine is underwhelming to say the least.

Anyone would think she was schizophrenic the way she segues into that push up. And as for the bow? ‘Heel 101’ wants it’s textbook back. Let’s hope she brushes up on the act when she debuts it on television.

Meanwhile, it’s pretty interesting that the video has garnered nearly 8,000 views on YouTube in just 24 hours. I guess more people are checking for Miss McCool than the crazies would have you believe.
