This Week in History… A Very Special Holiday Gift

4

In a bit of a combo move, we’re using our This Week in History… feature to say happy holidays from Diva Dirt! To celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or whatever your persuasion, I’ve got a little present for all our good little boys and girls visitors:

Do you know what happened on this day exactly 7 years ago? Keep in mind that it is still Christmas Eve where I am.. Give up? Alright, I’ll tell you: On the December 24th, 2001 edition of Smackdown, two little ladies named Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson took part in a preposterous-but-entertaining little Eggnog Match. Splashing around in a kiddie pool full of the smelly holiday beverage sounds quite gross when you think about it, eh? But nevertheless, this match is a bit of a classic in Diva-dom, showcasing Torrie and Stacy’s long-running feud and just how nasty (see what I did there?) it could get.. Enjoy!

Natalya’s Dreaming of a Black Christmas

5

You know what they say: It’s not Christmas without a plaid shirt on your back and a nice leather chair to lounge on! Okay, so maybe they don’t say that, but Natalya‘s determined to make those two things synonymous with the holiday season in her new photoshoot, “A Very Natalya Christmas”. She’s wearing a festive Santa hat as well, though in a less traditional shade of black. But hey, you can’t trust Natalya to do anything the traditional way, can you? She looks great, if a little evil. Something tells me she wasn’t a good girl this year..

Perfect 10 of 2008: Taylor Wilde (#9)

5

Welcome to the Perfect 10 of 2008, the countdown that highlights Diva Dirt‘s ten top Divas and Knockouts of ’08! Which Divas/Knockouts have made the biggest impact? From champions to talented wrestlers to big personalities, the Perfect 10 has them all!

9. TAYLOR WILDE
What a year it was for rookie, Taylor Wilde in 2008. Beginning the year with her dreams shattered after being dropped from her development deal with WWE, but by May 2008 her troubles were over…

Taylor joined TNA and over the summer of ’08, she became the company’s fastest rising star. Taylor was initially pushed into a programme with Awesome Kong which saw her becoming the third TNA Knockout Champion and winning a $25,000 cash prize by pinning the dominant Knockout.

Since toppling TNA’s biggest monster, Taylor battled and overcame the Beautiful People before finally dropping the title back to Kong. Not bad for a rookie year!

Even Beth Has Caught the Holiday Spirit

8

Just in time for Christmas Eve, Beth Phoenix is all gussied up in holiday red for her new photosohot, “Red-dy for the Holidays”. I’ve never been fond of the corset things she always wears, but it’s her signature look. I can respect that – I like that she has a distinct style that sets her apart. The red looks great on her, and the somewhat softer look compliments the holiday theme. It’s okay to be cheery today Beth, but tomorrow that scowl better be back on your face. I like evil Beth the best.

Mickie is a Beautiful and Unique Snowflake

3

It looks like Mickie James is calling on two different personalities in her new photoshoot, “Shimmering”, as she’s sporting two distinctly different looks. The first half has her wearing a tiny black cocktail dress that is likely the inspiration for the title of this shoot – it looks like pieces of confetti glued together! I’m not so sure I’d like to wear it, but it sure is interesting to look at. In the second half, Mickie’s wearing jeans and furry boots – a quite different look. She looks much more comfortable in this, and her poses show that – they’re cute and lively. You can always count on Mickie to bring something unexpected to the table – whether it be in poses or wardrobe. She can pull off slinky and sexy or cute and quirky – that’s Mickie in a nutshell.

Perfect 10 of 2008: The Beautiful People (#10)

2

Welcome to the Perfect 10 of 2008, the countdown that highlights Diva Dirt‘s ten top Divas and Knockouts of ’08! Which Divas/Knockouts have made the biggest impact? From champions to talented wrestlers to big personalities, the Perfect 10 has them all!

10. THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE
Kicking off the festivities is TNA’s Beautiful People – Angelina Love and Velvet Sky. Since joining TNA last October, the Beautiful People have become a force to be reckoned with among the Knockouts division in 2008.

Changing their attitude from babyfaces to heels was the key to turning these two devious Knockouts into one of the hottest double acts in professional wrestling! In 2008, the duo battled with the likes of Gail Kim, ODB, Roxxi and more.

Among their 2008 highlights, the Beautiful People competed in the Makeover Battle Royal at Sacrifice, costing Roxxi her hair. Angelina Love challenged for the Knockout Championship and in August 2008, the Knockouts aligned themselves with veteran, Kip James who became the third member of the group as Cute Kip.

WWE Propositioning Trish for ‘Mania

17

Stratusfaction came to Monday Night Raw last night in a one night only deal… or did it? What we all assumed to be a one night only Christmas treat, may be the start of a new run for the legend that is Trish Stratus. Word is that WWE is propositioning Trish to work a limited schedule and be part of WrestleMania 25. The pay-per-appearance deal would play off last night’s Raw, with Trish facing the Glamazon, Beth Phoenix in Houston next April.

Interesting indeed. There have been a few vague rumours that Trish may return for a short run in the past few weeks but to be honest, I’m quite content with her just appearing for one night only. Her appearance was a great little treat for Christmas, but anything more than that? I’m not interested… at least not yet. I don’t necessarily want to see Trish back even if it is only for three months – especially taking a WrestleMania slot away from the likes of Melina or Mickie James. Maybe let a few more years pass by before coming back to do a Mick Foley-esque WrestleMania comeback. That said, I was certainly Stratusfied last night by the all time great.

What say you, fans? Want some more Stratusfaction?

Mickie James Injured?

18

Just moments ago, it looked as though Mickie James injured her knee during a tag team match, James teamed up with Melina to take on Jillian and Layla. The Diva looked physically unable to stand up after being thrown off the top turnbuckle by Jillian early on in the match.

Mickie looked visibly upset, in tears and was seen crying as she and Melina celebrated their victory. Melina was seen crying also as she consoled the former four time Women’s Champion. Coincidentally, the last time these two Divas teamed up, it was Melina who injured her leg. The A-List Diva returned to action just last month. We’ll update you on Mickie’s condition as we receive more information.

EDIT: Thankfully Mickie wasn’t injured on Raw last night, after all.

Raw Watch: Trish Returns, Melina & Mickie Team Up

7

Oh what a Divalicious night of action we fans were treated to last night… just in time for Christmas! Melina and the possibly injured Mickie James teamed up first of all to take on Jillian and Layla. And Raw got some Stratusfaction later in the evening when the legacy that is Trish Stratus returned for one night only before her hometown crowd. Trish’s return signalled the return of the Divas in the main event slot, as she and Beth Phoenix were on opposing teams in a mixed tag match.

Relive all the excitement below!

TRISH STRATUS & JOHN CENA VS GLAMARELLA

MELINA & MICKIE JAMES VS JILLIAN & LAYLA

Trish Stratus Returns to Raw and Main Events

16

The one and only Trish Stratus made a not-so-surprise return to Raw tonight as John Cena’s tag team partner in a mixed tag match against Glamarella. The legendary Diva had been rumoured to be part of tonight’s show in some fashion for the past couple of weeks, but until tonight’s show went on the air it wasn’t known that she’d actually compete in the ring.

I have to say, I was kind of nervous about Trish getting in the ring but after two years, she’s still got it. The seven time Women’s Champ proved that she hasn’t skipped a beat in the ring with the Glamazon! The two looked great together and shared some good chemistry. Thankfully though, Trish wasn’t the one to get the pin for her team, thus keeping Beth strong.

It was four years ago this month that Trish main evented Raw in a Women’s Championship match against Lita.

Victoria Beats Around the Bush

4

When news broke a couple of weeks ago that future legend, Victoria was to retire, Diva fans everywhere let out a collective gasp. Well now the Vicious Vixen has responded to the piece first reported by PWInsider and let’s just say, she’s not spilling any of the beans

I try not to respond to internet rumors, but I have received hundreds of emails through both myspace and through www. black-widow-customs. com asking me if I am going to retire. I never said that I am, although sooner or later we all will. And I don’t believe that “unnamed talent” is saying that about me either. On the other hand, I never said that my retirement is not imminent. I do appreciate everyone’s support. I try to be open about my life in my blogs. But I would never comment about anything, either to confirm or deny, that may come up in future WWE shows. I’m not the kind of person who wants to know the end of a movie before I see it. And I don’t want to ruin anyone’s future enjoyment of WWE product.

Despite not giving a clear answer, I agree with her response. I still get the impression that she’ll be leaving soon.

Do We Have Some Stratusfaction Looming on the Horizon?

12

Forecast for tomorrow: sunny with a chance of Stratus clouds. In other words, it’s looking more and more likely that Trish Stratus will be making an appearance on tomorrow night’s Raw. It, as we mentioned previously, is taking place in Toronto, Canada. However, Jim Ross recently took to his blog to address the rumors:

I would say my chances of seeing one of my all time favorite hires, Trish Stratus, is better than 50/50 but that doesn’t necessarily mean she will appear on TV.

Of course, Ross could just be avoiding spilling the beans, but all signs are pointing to at least a small cameo by Toronto’s hometown girl. That, combined with the fact that tomorrow’s Raw will be taped during a SuperShow (meaning Raw and Smackdown folks will be under one roof) lends one to believe that her little “tiff” with Natalya may be played out to some extent. So if you’re a Trish fan, set your DVRs!

Style Showdown: It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year..

9

Welcome back to the Style Showdown! This is the contest where we put our favourite Divas and Knockouts up against each other, not in the ring, but in a battle of who looks better!

Last time on the Style Showdown: WWE songstresses Jillian Hall and Lilian Garcia faced off in a style duel. Many of you think Lilian has the better singing voice, and apparently you think she was the better dresser – she garnered 188 votes while screechy Jillian was close behind with 128.

This week, it may be the holiday season, but there is no peace or good will between rivals Beth Phoenix and Melina. The two Divas have recently reignited their feud, with Melina gunning for Beth’s Women’s Championship. In accordance with the season, we’ve pitted the two Divas against one another based off of their “Santa’s Little Helper” outfits from the recent “Divas Holiday Spectacular” photoshoot. Who do you think earns your gift (a vote) and who deserves a lump of coal? Cast your vote below!

Watch: The Divas Play Santa on “Tribute to the Troops”

0

For those of you who were unable to watch last night’s Tribute to the Troops special on NBC, here’s a small, feel-good segment which sees Alicia Fox, Eve Torres, Kelly Kelly, Maria, and Mickie James spread a little Christmas cheer to the American troops with a little help from Cryme Tyme.:

THE DIVAS PLAY SANTA ON “TRIBUTE TO THE TROOPS”

The Divas Get Fuzzy for the Troops

6

To commemorate tonight’s “WWE Tribute to the Troops” show (airing tonight at 9 pm on NBC), Alicia Fox, Eve Torres, Kelly Kelly, Maria, and Mickie James have taken photos in their white fuzzy holiday best, surrounded by the Iraqi desert. The juxtaposition of Santa-esque outfits with the bright blue sky is unique, and I like it. Most of the girls look great – I even like the way Maria jazzed up her outfit with striped gloves. However, Mickie looks shockingly bad. I mean really, a pink fuzzy vest over a leopard print bra and fuzzy stripper shoes? Please tell me this is some Bob Hope-esque joke for the troops. Who do you think looks best? Cast your vote below and sound off in the comments!

Kelly Mixes it Up… Kind of

125

Another day, another dual photoshoot. Today brings us Kelly Kelly in “Pink Perfection”, obviously named for the old Homecoming dress she’s wearing in the first half of the shoot. I’m not a fan of hot pink in general, especially on a dress. It makes it look cheap, hence the Homecoming reference. The cut of it is cute, but if it were in a different color, maybe she’d look less like Malibu Barbie. The second half features Kelly in a much sleeker and (in my opinion) better-looking dress. The all-black ensemble suits her blonde tresses better than the pink. I won’t call it classier, because a matching exposed bra knocks it down a few points, though I’m sure the it wasn’t intentional. It’s great to see Kelly mixing up the poses more – you can tell she’s getting more comfortable with photoshoots, much like she is in the ring. What do you know, our little Kelly is coming into her own!

Meet the Best You Never Had

Are you sitting comfortably children? Aunty Melanie is here to read you a bedtime story. There was once a Diva, trained in the deep mountains of Florida. She was destined to be a super-Diva. Claimed to be faster, stronger and more agile than all your household names: Beth Phoenix, Trish Stratus, Gail Kim. Meet Angela Fong

WWE developmental performer Angela Fong is said to have the most potential at this stage of training of any WWE women’s wrestler in a quite some time. Fong’s athleticism is far and away above any of the women on the current roster, including the likes of Michelle McCool, Beth Phoenix or former WWE Diva Trish Stratus, who were accomplished athletes before joining the wrestling business. Although it should be noted that Fong is a former gymnast and cheerleader. Fong is said to be significantly better at the same stage of training as Gail Kim was, not to mention actually significantly better athletically that Kim even is now. With that being said, Fong is by no means close to ready for television matches in WWE, although she has started getting feet wet in Florida Championship Wrestling after starting out as a manager. Fong’s pure athleticism is said to be on the level of the top Japanese women’s wrestlers, and she does things like bridging out of pins and moves reminiscent of that style and era. Fong, now simply going under the name Miss Angela in FCW, tried out for the 2007 WWE Diva Search, but didn’t make the final cut. WWE would later sign Fong to a developmental contract in February 2008.

That is a very tall order indeed. I barely know what to say, to be honest. I have heard some good things about Fong in recent months, but wow… Just wow. Really?

From Trashy to Classy in No Time

9

WWE.com’s started a new trend with their two-for-one photoshoots, and Candice Michelle‘s latest photoshoot, “Curing Blues” isn’t an exception. The first half features Candice in baggy jeans and a lacy bra top – hardly a classy (or flattering) look. Her abs look amazing, though. I know they’re going for a slightly grungy, seductive look, what with the locker room setting, but it’s just not working for me. The second half is far better, in my opinion. She’s sporting a Marilyn Monroe-esque dress, posing in a rather statuesque manner. Aside for a few wonky facial expressions, she pulls that one off quite nicely. It’s interesting, but strange, to see shoots from such different spectrums combined in this way. Though, if the locker room one was nixed and they just doubled the size of the Marilyn one, I can’t say I’d miss trashy Candice.

Kelly’s Got a Killer Moonsault

8

2008 has been kind to Kelly Kelly, the Diva upped her game in the ring and began to be pushed as a performer rather than an awkward dancer on ECW. In June, she got her big break by coming to Raw and since she’s been wrestling more than ever – and has impressed many. And as of Monday night, she’s shown she can act too. So who better to have a retrospective interview with in the Holiday issue of WWE Magazine than one of the company’s rising stars?

In the interview, Kelly talks – for the first time to my recollection – about her growth in the ring and has fighting words for those who dismiss her as just another blonde bimbo:

Does it grind your gears when people pigeonhole Kelly Kelly as nothing more than a buxom blonde with no place in a WWE ring?

It pisses me off. I’ve been training since the day I was hired, and I’ve paid dues every step of the way. I moved to Kentucky to train in OVW, then to Tampa to continue training in FCW and now I’ve finally gotten the chance to show people what I can do.

Perhaps fans are blinded by your beauty and just don’t realize that you’re a legit natural athlete.

I was a gymnast for 10 years before I came to WWE. I started in gymnastics when I was three, and had competed all over the country by the time I was 13. My goal was to be an Olympic gymnast, but I injured my tailbone and couldn’t compete anymore.

Ouch! Not your coccyx! So, how does a gymnastic background help you on Raw? After all, there are no uneven bars inside a WWE ring.

I’ve used my skills to train for my moonsault. And, truth be told, I’ve got a really good one. But I’m not going to whip it out for just anyone. I’ll save it for a title match down the road. I have all kinds of tricks up my sleeve, and there are definitely moves in my arsenal you haven’t seen yet.

I have to say Kelly’s fighting spirit in this interview is impressive. I like that she says, “Look, I’ve done this and this and this…” No denying she’s improved a lot in the ring. I definitely think her gymnastic ability has helped her, she looks comfortable in the ring and can use the space well. There are still some Divas who’ve been around far longer, that still look off in the ring (Candice, Maria) so I think her background is an advantage. I’m real eager to see Kelly’s moonsault, no Diva on the current roster has a finisher that uses the turnbuckle, I hope she can pull it off!

Maria Keeps It in the Family

7

You can tell that SmackDown’s Maria is one of those ‘date where you work’ kinda girls, just ask CM Punk or another WWE Superstar who I won’t name. But it seems as though the red head has had her fill of the muscly wrestlers of WWE and has now moved onto the geeky behind the scenes guys. Maria told the Opie and Anthony Show this morning that she’s currently dating a WWE cameraman.

Maria meet Batista… Batista, Maria…

Natalya’s Still in the Spotlight

2

Like a string of Christmas lights, Natalya is positively glowing in her new photoshoot, “Shining”. Although, a lot of that has to do with the flash of the camera – it lights up the blue wall for an interesting effect. It’s almost spotlighting Natalya, and the sequined yellow dress she’s wearing makes her pop even more! It’s gorgeous in an artistic way, and you can’t say that too often about a WWE photoshoot. Though, the effect makes her excess eye makeup look worse than it should – maybe she should nix the false eyelashes next time.
