YouTube Classics: Torrie Wilson vs. Molly Holly

7

Welcome to the YouTube Classics! With this past week marking the 33rd birthday of former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson, this week’s theme will be “The Covergirl”, showcasing some of Torrie Wilson’s biggest career moments. Today, we have Torrie Wilson vs. Molly Holly in a Women’s Title match from a 2002 edition of SmackDown. This was Torrie’s only Women’s Title shot, despite the fact that she was in the WWE for about 7 years. Needless to say, it’s a sore subject for Torrie fans, as they feel she didn’t get her due, despite many much-less experienced Divas receiving more Championship shots in much shorter careers:

Square-Cut or Pear-Shaped, This Diva Doesn’t Lose Her Shape

4

What’s this? Another Lilian Garcia photoshoot? I must say it’s nice to see Lilian doing more Diva-ish things. She brings a breath of fresh air, even if she is the longest-running Diva. I mean, she’s certainly not overexposed. As long as she’s not being forced into storylines or matches, I’m happy with Lilian – not everyone needs to be a wrestler, after all.

That being said this photoshoot, “Diamonds”, definitely showcases her ability to work the camera. I’m not loving the tube dress, but it fits her attitude. I feel she’s a better “rocker” Diva than Ashley or Maria, as she doesn’t seem to be forcing it. We’ll see if she can pull off another Diva look – a bikini – when her Summer Skin photoshoot debuts next month.

TNA’s Answer to Michelle McCool?

12

Perhaps I’m alone in this, but I can’t help but notice a similarity between our new TNA Knockout Champion, Taylor Wilde and our new Divas Champion, Michelle McCool. These similarities are all aesthetic: Taylor’s in-ring attire really does remind me of something Michelle would wear and they both share the same “fake extensions” texture to their hair. Maybe it’s not just me who sees this likeness – looking back to this past Thursday’s Impact, Angelina Love made a comment that one could definitely allude to Michelle. After Taylor beat Velvet Sky twice in 25 seconds, Ang had the following to say: “I don’t know who you’re dating in TNA to get all this special attention.” A jibe towards our new Divas Champ from TNA?

Clutching at straws, perhaps… or perhaps TNA is trying to model Taylor after WWE’s own Michelle, or at least sees some likeness between the two. What do you think? Am I crazy or can you see it too? Sound off in the comments!

Style Showdown: SmackDown Gets Dressed Up

7

Welcome to Style Showdown, a new feature to cure weekends of slow news! In Style Showdown, we take two Diva rivals from the past or present and put them in a battle of a different kind – in a battle of “Who looks better!”

Previously on Style Showdown: Great American Bash opponents Michelle and Natalya faced off. The result was a pretty close call, but as she did at the Bash, Michelle emerged victorious. She garnered 99 votes, while Natalya drew 81 votes of her own – close, but not close enough!

This week, we have another SmackDown battle – this time between two of its lesser-known Divas. Both Eve and Maryse are products of the Diva Search, and both have been inhabiting the blue brand for a while now. Maryse, as we’ve mentioned quite a few times, has been improving impressively in the ring. Meanwhile, Eve seems to have been relegated to interviewing gigs. But this contest is not about personal achievements – this is about style! So, whose look do you prefer? Maryse’s navy blue ensemble or Eve’s pretty pinkness? Check out the full photoshoots and cast your votes below!

Eve (“Perfect in Pink”)

Maryse (“True Blue”)

Stratusfaction Makes WWE’s Greatest Finishers

Legendary Trish Stratus‘ famed finisher, the Stratusfaction was voted at #18 on WWE.com’s top 25 greatest finishing moves today. Trish was the only Diva to make the list, while the top spot was taken by the Stone Cold Stunner:

I have two words for WWE: Widow’s Peak.

Mickie = Roller Girl?

3

With the episode date approaching, more details about Mickie‘s upcoming appearance on USA Network’s Pysch have been revealed:

• Mickie’s episode will have a roller derby theme, centering on an investigation of robberies linked to a roller derby team.

• The episode will air on Saturday, September 6th.

So, are you looking forward to (possibly) seeing Mickie in full-on derby mode, or are you not planning on tuning in? Sound off in the comments!

YouTube Classics: Lita vs. Jacqueline

0

Welcome to the YouTube Classics! The WWE has just crowned their first ever Divas Champion, marking the first time SmackDown’s Divas division has had a championship. Due to this newfound focus on the “blue brand”, our theme this week is “Laying the SmackDown”; We’ll be selecting hidden gems in SmackDown’s history, showing you a few entertaining matches you may not remember. Today, we have Lita vs. Jacqueline in a Women’s Title match from a 2000 edition of SmackDown:

The Big Brooke Hogan Post

6

I tried, I tried, I tried. Brooke Hogan can’t really be considered a “Diva” or “woman of wrestling”, hence why we have never really posted anything about her. But things are getting juicy! First off, Hulk’s little girl may be appearing in Playboy! That is the rumour that’s been making the rounds by oh I don’t know, just about every site wrestling and non-wrestling! According to Brooke’s publicist, she has received an offer but hasn’t made any decision at this time. I guess following the ratings success of her VH1 series, milk that cow!

Secondly and more disturbingly, Brooke has apologised for signing an affadavit testifying that her father, Hulk, physically and verbally abused mother Linda during their marriage. Brooke cites that she felt she was being “pressured” by Linda but has realised that what she did was wrong. Brooke says she is no longer speaking to her momma and is living with her dad:

Brooke Hogan issued an apology for making what she now calls false allegations that her father Hulk abused her mother.

“I did it under significant pressure from my mother,” Hogan, 20, tells PEOPLE in an exclusive statement. “It was only after I learned all the facts that I realized I made a big mistake in signing it.” Read more »

Could this family be anymore fucked up? Her mother is absolutely disgusting.

Diva Dirt Gets A Spinoff!

4

Spinoffs, sometimes they work (Frasier) and sometimes they fail hard (Joey, anyone?!), well we’re hoping that our new spinoff for Diva Dirt will do the former. Erin and I have always wanted to write about some of our other passions here at the site and it’s not always suitable; we both have a love for movies as well as television, music, fashion etc. Our new sub-site, The Offshoot by Diva Dirt, will allow us to cover our favourite non-Diva topics for all to read! Check it out:

Caption This: Beth Phoenix

Welcome back to the classic game of “Caption This” here at Diva Dirt, this time we want you to come up with a caption for this picture of Beth Phoenix from this past Monday’s Raw:

Maria Dresses Like a Circus Freak Performer

4

If you were one of many that wondered what in the blue hell Maria was thinking when she wore that lacey nightmare to the Paws for Style event last week, SmackDown’s newest Diva offers an explanation, detailing her inspiration for the look:

“Well, what I’m wearing today is kind of a collaboration of things. I was thinking about circus dogs and circus animals and how fun they are,” she explained. “My inspiration was circus dogs and I’m definitely wearing my own design – I just finished it today!”

I’d make a circus joke, but that would be too obvious. Instead, I will feign complete shock and awe at the fact that she finished her dress on the day of the event. That looks like a labor of love, Maria! A psychotic labor of love, but one nonetheless! (Read the rest of the WWE.com article on the Paws for Style event.)

If you – like me – prefer Maria’s canine design, which she also designed and modeled (on her puppy Gemini) on the runway, Paws for Style is auctioning it off with all proceeds going towards the American Humane Society. It’s a great cause, and the bidding is currently at $25.01. (Click here to view the auction.)

Lena Must Moonlight At a Biker Bar

9

Appropriately (or inappropriately, depending on how you look at it), Lena‘s new photoshoot is called “Loving Leather”. You see, I’m definitely not loving the look. See what I did there? Wit at its finest! Anywho, something about the heavy eye makeup and the ill-matching and ill-fitting leather clothes gives the impression of trying waaayyy too hard. They’re obviously going for a “tough” look, but I’m frightened for all the wrong reasons.

A Little Too Unserious?

7

As some of you have pointed out, WWE.com has deleted the Beth Phoenix photoshoot they posted yesterday, leading to speculation as to why. Allow me to throw my hat in… Though this could be an oversight, perhaps someone in the upper echelon of WWE (or Creative) saw the shoot and requested it be pulled down as it’s a little too unserious. The fun and playful vibe is very much the opposite to Beth’s Glamazon character and doesn’t really keep that kayfabe going.

That sort of begs the question, why does WWE care now? They never usually care about the Divas enough to pull a photoshoot, though they have been known to pull content in the past but usually directed to the top stars. What’s your take on this? Sound off in the comments!

Vickie “No Longer A Guerrero”

5

This has been out on the web for a couple of days now, but in case you haven’t heard SmackDown GM Vickie Guerrero‘s former brother-in-law Hector Guerrero (of TNA fame) wrote in a recent interview that Vickie was no longer a Guerrero. Sounds ominous…

“Vickie Guerrero is not Vickie Guerrero anymore,” Hector said. “She is Vickie Lara. Till death do us part. She was in love with Eddy and he with her. She went into seclusion, and I can respect that.” He added, “We know why she kept the family name, but she’s not reached out to us. She is loved by us, and we wish her the best. We just wish should we love us back and return the gesture of communication.”

I don’t know, something strikes me as odd about these comments. This situation reminds me Batman star, Christian Bale’s current family drama – there is more to the story than is being let on. I feel these comments are somewhat harsh towards Vickie and intended to perceive her in a negative light, yet at the same time the last line suggests perhaps not. What do you think?

Two Former Divas Blog

9

Recent Diva departures, Ashley Massaro and Torrie Wilson have taken to MySpace today to update fans on themselves! First up is this short and sweet message from Ashley! Now, if you were one of the billion people who cried, “She didn’t write this!” at the controversial blog she posted on July 2nd where she announced her leave – have a cookie! The dirty but no longer Diva admitted that she didn’t pen the blog… but sorta, kinda did:

Hey yall just wanted to drop in to say thanks to everyone whose been sending well wishes and I miss yall too, I’ll see you soon though I promise. The lil angels doin better this week, hopefully werre outta the woods but who knows. I just wanted to say thanks for stoppin in and checkin. BTW that last blog that was posted, I had to call it in to one of my friends to post it because we were no where near home and thats why I guess it didn’t “sound like” me. Haha, you guys were quick to figure that out, thats some funny S**t that you know me like that. Anyway, have a great weekend everybody, I got a whole lotta stuff comin your way soo just hang tight.

Next up, Torrie Wilson has re-emerged on the eve of her 33rd birthday with a new blog, talking about going to the gym for the first time since her surgery and hanging with the Divas recently! Excerpt below:

My back is healing well after surgery and I have started working out again and I couldn’t be more happy! I guess I am one of those weird creatures that really LOVES to workout and it has been so hard to stay out of the gym the past 4 months. (YIKES!) I actually cried the first day I went back to the gym because I couldn’t believe how much strength I lost and felt like I lost everything I have worked so hard for…but heck there are people out there that have it wayyy worse than me so I definately won’t complain! I have since been just working super hard to get into the best shape of my life. Slowly but surely!

YouTube Classics: Torrie Wilson vs. Nidia

Today, we have Torrie Wilson vs. Nidia from a 2003 edition of SmackDown. Sable served as guest ring announcer while Jamie Noble stood in Nidia’s corner and proceeded to get in on the action late in the match:

Why So Unserious, Beth?

12

WWE.com’s theme of jumping on The Dark Knight continues this week, with the usually stern and sinister Beth Phoenix showing a more playful side with an homage to The Joker, the role most recently played by the dearly departed Heath Ledger. There’s a lot of buzz about Heath’s portrayal, all of which features the word “Oscar”, but Beth’s shoot is more “Razzie.”

Now when viewing these pictures in context, it’s a pretty cool concept but if you have no knowledge of Batman or The Joker, you wouldn’t be amiss for thinking “Ew!” While the pictures and concept are fun and playful, it kinda disturbs me that Beth owns this outfit… BURN IT!

SmackDown Spoilers For July 25th

PWInsider.com has this Friday’s SmackDown spoilers from tonight’s tapings. Highlight the space below to read:

• Backstage, Edge is talking to Alicia Fox. He tells her he’ll speak to her back at the hotel because Vickie might show up at any moment. Bam Neely is seen eavesdropping.

• WWE Divas Champ Michelle McCool defeated Maryse.

• Edge asks Vickie to come out for a public apology. He tells her that she didn’t see the full footage and he tried to resist Alicia. She told him she understands and he apologized. He tried to kiss her and she turned her face. She said she understands and hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. She said she was upset and did something earlier today – reinstated the Undertaker. The place went insane. Edge was upset but said it was OK because he and Triple H could kill each other while he and Vickie were on their honeymoon. She said that he couldn’t do that because Undertaker had an opponent at Summerslam.. Edge in a Hell in a Cell.

She’s My Cherry Pieeee…

3

Okay, clearly I can’t get enough music puns when it comes to this Diva. Cherry keeps churning out the photoshoots, and while her look hasn’t changed much (aside from the hair), I think I like this shoot. Called “Sweet”, it’s as simple as WWE.com photoshoots get.. I mean, it looks like they stopped her in the hallway and told her to strike a few poses from close-range. That being said, she looks quite nice regardless. It looks like Cherry is slowly (and I mean slooooowwwwllly) but surely branching out a bit. She looks a lot softer and.. dare I say sexier? What do you think?

Raw Redux – July 21, 2008

9

This week on Raw: Beth Phoenix decimated Kelly Kelly before locking lips with Santino. Meanwhile, Katie Lea and Mickie James continued their feud with a mixed tag team match everyone saw coming.

Thoughts & Reactions
It is with great pain that I write this week’s Raw Redux, because for the first time ever – I feel as though I don’t have much to write. Last night’s Raw wasn’t neither bad nor good, it was just average. There was a sufficient use of the Divas, which I applaud – they kept that going from last week’s all time high of Diva usage; but I felt this week’s show wasn’t much to write home about and that’s not to say it was at all bad.

The mixed tag team match, I saw coming a mile off and it was just fine. To tell you the truth, the Mickie-Katie feud has waned in recent weeks and I’m just not that excited to see another match between these two unless Katie pulls off the big one and becomes the Women’s Champion. I don’t really see this rematch as SummerSlam worthy unless the title were to change hands. The mixed tag was on par with the mixed tag team match we saw a month or so back with Mr Kennedy in Kofi Kingston’s place, both of these matches were good. But it did leave me wondering “What will they do next?” Because like I say, I feel this feud has lost it’s steam. And I hate to say that because I have been championing this feud and hoping it would really take off, but as of yet we’ve not seen anything too exciting happen between Katie and Mickie. Katie is a very capable wrestler, but as the weeks pass I’m beginning to wonder what flare she has in the ring – because so far, she has been pretty average. I would love to see Katie more confident in the ring and really show us a move set that sets her apart from the other Divas, Beth Phoenix and Mickie James have their unique signature moves that they can turn to in every match but Katie so far, has only displayed the basic moves. Katie, I dare you to excite me in the ring! Come on, I know you have it in you…

The second (well actually it aired earlier) match on Raw was Beth Phoenix taking on Kelly Kelly, I was left a little disappointed because I had hoped Santino would come down to the ring but as the night progressed, we did get to see that storyline be addressed. This match was again, just fine… actually, it was a little more than just fine. Kelly and Beth shared some chemistry in the ring and that’s something I wasn’t expecting, Kelly worked well with Beth – again, something I wasn’t expecting. If anything can be said for this match, it’s that it was very vocal. I almost felt embarassed watching because it really did sound like a barrage of orgasms from Kelly more so than Beth. Fun match, I loved the high impact face plant that Beth used to finish Kelly off (hence why I used it in the image above), hopefully she’ll retire the boring suplex thing and use this more often.

Continuing on the Beth front, she turned up later for Santino’s match and a part of me figured out where this was going but that was surpressed by the thoughts of, “WWE wouldn’t actually do this, would they?” Lo and behold, they did! I have to say, Beth and Santino straddling each other with Beth screaming “Get off me!” just seemed awkward, I guess that was the desired effect but it felt awkward as in the acting was bad. I wonder where they’ll go with this? It seems the sour Glamazon is sweetening up a little, and I don’t like it! I would have prefered to have seen Santino challenge Beth to a rematch and see these two feud rather than go for a love story. This seemed a little like Stockholm Syndrome, I wonder if that’s how they’ll play it out? I can totally see the Glamazon being the bunny boiler girlfriend, that could be fun to watch!

The Diva Dirt Sheet Discussion Point – July 22, 2008

13

For those of you who tuned into the Diva Dirt Sheet last week, you’d know we have a “discussion point” feature, where you guys get to have your say on a topic. Erin and I will read out your comments and ideas, as well as throw in our own. So what is this week’s discussion point?

This week, we’re stealing a little idea from Wendy Williams, the controversial shock jock turned talk show host. Now, Wendy does a little thing on her radio show called “friends in my head”, basically celebrities whom if she knew in person, she thinks she would be BFFs with them. So we want to ask you, which Divas – past or present – are a friend in your head? Which Divas do you think, if you knew, you would hang out with and have something in common with?

Comment with your Divas and be sure to tell us why! Hopefully you’ll get name checked on the Dirt Sheet, this Thursday!

What on Earth…

24

Huh?!

A Double Shot of Stacy

3

This post is double-barrelled so let’s delve in: First up, Stacy Keibler attended ABC’s TCA All Star Party last week, where she got to rub shoulders with the casts of *deep breath* Grey’s Anatomy, Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives, Lost, Ugly Betty, Private Practice, Dirty Sexy Money, Pushing Daisies and Samantha Who? *and exhale* Not jealous. Not jealous at all. Bitch.

Now, pink is not my colour at all but Stacy looked immaculate! From her dress to her hair, she looked amazing. Check out pictures below:

Secondly, after two years (count ’em if you don’t believe me), Stacy has finally decided to call back upon her “wrestling fans” that she has seemingly been trying to escape from and erase from her memory for the past two years. Like that friend who only ever calls you when she wants something, Stacy definitely wants something and me thinks that something’s to make her new ABC Family series, Samurai Girl a hit. Stacy had her people send this statement out to the wrestling media today:

I am so excited to reconnect with all of my wrestling fans!!! I hope everyone will stop by and see me. I will be signing autographs from 1:30pm in the ABC Family booth I will also be shooting “a day in the life of” and I would love to record as many of you as I can. See you next Friday :)

Is it just me or does this scream of insincerity? I love how she calls them her “wrestling fans”, last time I checked her new Hollywood career hadn’t taken off that much for her to have “acting fans.”

Katie Lea in a Dress? Stop the Presses!

3

Katie Lea may have lost to Mickie James twice in a row, but she’s still doing pretty well for herself. Need proof? Look at these photos! Okay, so WWE.com photoshoots aren’t exactly equal to match victories, but you gotta take what you can get, right? I mean, look at her! This photoshoot is called “Ravishing Red”, and she’s actually dressed differently for once. We’re so used to seeing her in those red tights that it’s a shock to see her in a dress. I’m not loving the dress itself (kind of hoochie), but I’m more interested in the fact that the look is different. She’s getting better with the poses too – no jazz hands! The lighting technician probably could have prevented it from looking like she’s standing 5 feet away from the surface of the sun, but I digress..

Here’s hoping that tonight on RAW (starting in about 5 minutes) she’ll pose a bigger threat to Mickie and her Title. But if not, it’s still great to see her being incorporated into more Diva-like things.

YouTube Classics: Ivory vs. The Kat

4

Welcome to the YouTube Classics! The WWE has just crowned their first ever Divas Champion, marking the first time SmackDown’s Divas division has had a championship. Due to this newfound focus on the “blue brand”, our theme this week is “Laying the SmackDown”; We’ll be selecting hidden gems in SmackDown’s history, showing you a few entertaining matches you may not remember. Today, we have Ivory vs. The Kat in a Women’s Championship match from the February 22nd, 2001 SmackDown. Ivory was in the midst of her RTC reign as Women’s Champion, and The Kat, brandishing her “Right to Nudity”, stood up against Ivory on several occasions and even challenged her for her Title:

Maria Makes Red Carpet Comeback

5

Making a comeback from her major fashion faux pas last week, Maria looked au naturale on Saturday night, when she attended a Generation Rescue event hosted by Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy. Maria was joined by new dad and hunk-o-man, Randy Orton.

I really like this natural look for Maria, her hair is free and flowing, her make up doesn’t look overdone. Her dress was far better than last week’s, but talk about blending into the wallpaper!
