Paige had interests in managing Ronda Rousey

Former two-time Divas Champion and current SmackDown Live‘s General Manager, Paige, at one point in time wanted to manage Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey upon her debut in the WWE.

Paige recently opened up about her transition from being an in-ring performer to her current role as SmackDown Live General Manager. She was also asked if she could see her self playing a different role as a manager for a superstar in the future.

“I would love to be a manager, kind of like Paul Heyman one day,” Paige told Planeta Wrestling. “I would love to do anything like that.”

The follow-up question was who specifically would she like to manage. Paige stated that she had hoped to manage Ronda Rousey at one point.

“Oh man, who would I love to manage, let’s see, everybody! I wanted to manage Ronda at one point, but she doesn’t need me, she doesn’t need me, but just anyone. Bring em on,” Paige said.

Rousey made her debut with Raw General Manager Kurt Angle as his tag-team partner competing against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon at WrestleMania.

Paige did not get the opportunity to manage Rousey, but she did end up managing the group Absolution, featuring Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. The group had to disband, however, when it was announced Paige is unable to wrestle due to a neck injury. Rose and Deville still wrestle together, often. It is not the storyline the WWE initially intended for the group.

As for Paige, she really enjoys her new role as the SmackDown Live General Manager and she is able to still be apart of the business she loves.

“I wouldn’t change a thing, because even the mistakes that I’ve made have made me into the person I am today,” Paige said. “So, I wouldn’t change a thing. Obviously, I wish I could wrestle, but it took me down a journey now, where I’m SmackDown General Manager, and it’s incredible. I get to work with the girls and the guys, I’m on every pay-per-view, I’m on every t.v., you know? So, it’s good. I like it.”

Catch Paige every week calling shots on SmackDown, Tuesday nights. Tune in to Raw on Monday nights to see who Ronda Rousey fights, next.
