The IIconics did the unthinkable and won the Women’s Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania. Last night on SmackDown Live, the champions were ready to defend their titles.
Former SmackDown General Manager, Paige, was keeping a close eye on their match via a monitor backstage.
The IIconics’ first title defense was against an undefeated local team, The Brooklyn Belles, who had a 45-0 record going into this match. After the new champions made short work of them, Paige had a secret to tell everyone.
She told Kayla Braxton that she will be bringing a tag team of her own next week. The Superstar Shake-Up is also next week, which makes this news perfect timing.
In a WWE Exclusive, The IIconics addressed their concerns on Paige’s announcement. Neither woman appeared to be phased by the news, stating that they will take on any competition. Peyton Royce and Billie Kay had the following to say:
“Point is, Paige wants to come out with this hot, hot new tag team, next week, we are ready. We are fighting champions and we are here to make this tag team division absolutely ICONIC!”
It is currently unknown what Paige’s role with this new tag team will be, but there is a good chance she could be their manager. She retired from in-ring action exactly one year ago.
Per Wrestling Inc. the rumored tag team will be The Sky Pirates (Kairi Sane/Io Shirai) from NXT. They have made a strong team on the yellow brand and most recently wrestled against each other at TakeOver: New York.
Who would you like to see Paige bring to the main roster as competition for The IIconics? Do you think this will be a newly formed team, or one that is already established? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below!
