Raw 2009: Fatal 4-way Number One Contender for Divas Title

This week’s Flashback Match Friday goes all the way back to 2009 when there was a Fatal 4-way bout on Raw to determine a number one contender for the Divas Championship. The match included Kelly Kelly vs. Gail Kim vs. Beth Phoenix vs. Alicia Fox. The current champion at the time was Mickie James and all four women wanted to take the gold off of her.

The final moments of the match had Gail Kim take out Alicia Fox on the outside with a crossbody. Kelly Kelly followed suit with a crossbody of her own to Fox and Kim. Beth Phoenix went up top for a high-risk maneuver on her three opponents on the outside but was stopped by Fox.

Back in the ring, Fox knocked Kelly off the apron before running into Eat Defeat by Kim. Kim got the three count and became the number one contender. She would receive her title match the following week on Raw against Mickie James and was unsuccessful.

James would continue to hold the championship until October 2009 when she would drop the gold to Jillian and subsequently to Melina. After Melina had to vacate the title due to injury, Kim was placed in a Divas Championship Tournament. She would defeat Jillian Hall and Alicia Fox but would lose to Maryse in the finals.
