Referee Aubrey Edwards added to All Elite Wrestling

Referee Aubrey Edwards, known throughout the independent wrestling scene as “Gearl Hebner,” has officially been announced as joining All Elite Wrestling.

The announcement came late Tuesday evening via the official AEW Twitter page.

Edwards has worked all over the United States in her duties as a referee, most commonly working in the Northwest for promotions like DEFY and ECCW.

She rose to prominence during her stint as a referee in NXT, WWE’s developmental territory, as well as during the 2018 Mae Young Classic alongside fellow female referee Jessika Evans.

After the announcement from the AEW Twitter page, Edwards took to Twitter herself to express her gratitude and excitement.

Edwards joins a stacked list of referees including Bryce Remsberg and Earl Hebner, a WWE official of 20 years who was most famous (or infamous) for his role in the 1997 Montreal Screwjob.

The hiring of Edwards highlights how big a role that women will play in AEW, as she adds her name to an impressive list of female talent, including Britt Baker, Aja Kong and Brandi Rhodes.

The hiring comes just 10 days away from AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view, set for May 25 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
