There has been a flurry of rumors going around the internet today as a report went out stating that former AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May was close to heading to WWE. This report was provided by the Wrestling Observer.
May is in her contract year with AEW and she is expected to get interest from anywhere she may want to go. The report by the Wrestling Observer states that people close to her believe WWE has always been the goal for May and people in AEW expect her to go to WWE. While there are some that believe this, a further report by Fightful Select, share that they have spoken to sources since the Wrestling Observer report which state that May is being wise and maximizing her leverage and negotiating power.
It is important to note that AEW is in hopes to retain May. Fightful Select has been told that May has not been at any AEW show since her match at Revolution against Toni Storm. There was some misinformation stating that the move to WWE for Mariah was already something in the works or a done deal, that is not the case. The biggest surprise out of all of this is that May was only on a deal of this length with AEW. She has a number of months left on her deal at this time.
Fightful reached out to May and her management upon the original story, but they didn’t comment.
For what it’s worth, May posted the following on her social media today.
