Details have emerged on why NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte lost her first main roster match last Monday on Raw.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via Lords of Pain), at one point the plan for was a tag match, but was changed in favor of a singles bout. The shortness of the match has been attributed to the show running low on time due to the Slammy Awards presentations.
The report states that had there been a tag match, Charlote would have won it for her team. When it was switched to a singles match, her opponent Natalya requested to lose, as she felt it was “the right thing.”
It is said that Vince McMahon decided against Charlotte getting the win, with Triple H backing up the decision by reasoning that, “in six months when they bring Charlotte in again, people won’t remember this happened.”
If this report is accurate, it suggests that Charlotte’s jump to the main roster – which has been rumored to be happening soon – is still months away.
Charlotte defends the NXT Women’s Title tonight at NXT Takeover: R Evolution, which airs at 8pm ET on the WWE Network.
