Taking it back to 2012, the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view had a Triple Threat take place for the Divas Champions.
The champion at the time was Eve Torres who was in her third and what would be her last reign with the Divas Title. Torres won her third championship in September 2012 at Night of Champions where she defeated Layla.
Layla would get her rematch at Hell in a Cell but Kaitlyn would also be involved. The storyline was that it was supposed to be Kaitlyn to face Layla at Night of Champions but she was taken out backstage by a masked individual. Torres would instead get the title match and win the belt.
However, in the investigation of who attacked Kaitlyn, it was determined that the assailant was blonde so Torres blamed Beth Phoenix. The attacker turned out to be Aksana under the order of Torres.
Torres would go on to retain here in this Hell in a Cell match while Kaitlyn was attempting to pin Layla. Torres executed a senton and while both women were down on the mat chose to pin Layla.
Eve would hold the title until January 2013 when she would drop it to Kaitlyn during the Raw 20th Anniversary Special in Kaitlyn’s hometown of Houston, Texas.
