The WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles are finally back after being vacant since May.
The last champions Sasha Banks & Naomi were stripped from the gold and indefinitely suspended causing the belts to go without owners. The tournament started a few weeks ago and we have one semi-finals match set and working towards the other.
One team already in the semi-finals for the SmackDown side of the brackets is Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah. The duo defeated Shotzi and Xia Li last week to advance. They are waiting to find out their semi-finals opponents as the upcoming last first-round match is set to take place between Natalya & Sonya Deville vs. the NXT team of Nikkita Lyons & Zoey Stark.
While speaking on this week’s WWE’s The Bump, Rodriguez is already confident that she will make it to the finals fo the tournament and she would like Aliyah and herself to face two women she knows very well – IYO SKY and Dakota Kai. SKY & Kai advanced to their semi finals match and is set to take on Alexa Bliss & Asuka on the Aug. 22 episode of Raw.
When asked about the possibility of facing SKY and Kai, Rodriguez had the following to say –
“1000%, yes. I love both of those women. They are just aggressive and hungry, and I know first-hand how hungry Dakota Kai is for gold. So I know that these women’s tag titles really mean a lot to both of those women, and I love competition. If I can get into the ring with both of them, I know the competition is just gonna be there. So yes, I am looking forward to meeting them and getting in the ring,” Rodriguez said. (Fightful)
When talking about her current tag team partner she speaks about their history –
“I think what it is us that we have experience together. We’ve built our friendship up through the five years that we’ve known each other working at NXT together. So we already have that chemistry , but it’s definitely a duo that nobody’s really seen, and I don’t think anyone can really prepare for. Because when you prepare for one opponent, you’re like okay, what are their strengths and weaknesses? But Aliyah and I are so completely opposite but so on the same mind and wavelength as well that I just feel like no one’s gonna be able to prepare for us. We are just indestructible right now,” she said.
Aliyah also appeared on this week’s episode of The Bump along with Alexa Bliss who continued to make note that she wanted to take the Raw Women’s Championship off of Bianca Belair.
