This week, Ronda Rousey confirmed the rumors that she plans to go on an indefinite leave from WWE to start a family. Yesterday, the former Raw Women’s Champion released a video to address her status with the company and give an injury update.
Apparently, Rousey broke the knuckle on her pinky finger when she flipped the table, followed by the now infamous “tables are for [expletive]” quote at WrestleMania 35. She had to undergo surgery, where two pins were inserted into her hand. In addition, she will have to wear a cast for the next four weeks
According to Rousey, the original plan was to work with the company until November because she and her husband, Travis Browne, already decided they were ready to have children.
“Originally, I approached them I thought I would only be able to wrestle from WrestleMania to November because we already wanted to start a family,” she said. “We came to WWE as ‘hey before we have a baby, I just want to be able to come and do this for a couple months cause it’s something I’ve always wanted to do’ and then it just kind of snowballed. Instead of being a small detour in my life, became my whole life for an entire year and I completely fell in love with it.”
Once the main event became a real possibility, Rousey decided to stay for a few more months and leave after WrestleMania.
“As time went on that I was in the company, we were kind of playing it by ear and I loved it so much, I ended up getting the title and when it became a real possibility that women could be the main event at WrestleMania if I stuck around, I decided to stick around. We planned on after WrestleMania, me and my amazing husband here would go off and try to start our family.” (h/t SEScoops for the transcription).
It’s unclear if Ronda Rousey will return. She’s leaving the door open, but for now, the plan is to have a baby first.
