Ronda Rousey rumored to take break after WrestleMania

According to Dave Meltzer and the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer newsletter, Ronda Rousey may hang up her sparing gloves after this year’s WrestleMania pay-per-view.

Meltzer said, “There is a very good chance that Ronda Rousey will be finishing up with WWE after WrestleMania.” Ever since Rousey made her debut at the end of last year’s Royal Rumble, it has never been clear how long Rousey would remain in WWE.

Although WWE had originally reported she had signed a multi-year full-time contract, according to Meltzer, it was actually only a one-year deal. The plan all along was for her to leave after WrestleMania 35.

She has made it no secret that she and husband Travis Browne want to start a family. She told Yahoo Sports last June, “We’re ready to start having kids soon and I was thinking about what I’ve left unfinished in my life, because I want to entirely focus on having kids when that time comes.” If she leaves, this could be why.

Whether or not she returns in the future is still unknown. She is only 31 years old and has plenty of years left to return to the WWE ring.

Rousey has made a huge impact on WWE since signing and has feuded with the top talent in the company. She has held her own with superstars who have had years of training and experience. Her debut match was at WrestleMania 34 when her and partner Kurt Angle defeated Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

The rumored match for this year’s WrestleMania is a triple-threat between Rousey, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. As we all know in WWE, plans change at a moment’s notice. Meltzer went on to say it is very likely WrestleMania – or perhaps the following pay-per-view, Backlash – will be the last in-ring match for Rousey.

We at Diva Dirt will keep you updated with any further details on Rousey’s WWE status.

UPDATE 11:52 AM PST: TMZ has reported that Rousey’s contract isn’t set to expire until April 10, 2021.

Pro Wrestling Sheet reported last November that Rousey informed WWE she might want a break after WrestleMania, but details were not yet set in stone. It appears that she might be taking a step towards taking a break to focus on family, but WWE already knows and it’s likely already in her contract.

Diva Dirt will provide more updates as they come.
