Real life husband and wife Rusev and Lana appeared on today’s episode of Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia. They were very candid with their frustrations with the creative direction of their characters.
The duo was extremely over with the crowd thanks to the Rusev Day chants, but according to Rusev, WWE has put a nix on that. He and Lana are constantly pitching new ideas to Vince McMahon and creative, and are very frustrated when their characters just seem to be spinning in circles.
Rusev has said that he has tried to do everything to get noticed but nothing works, including dropping 50 pounds and getting into better shape. He said, “I do all these things but nothing changes. I’m trying to catch Vince’s eye. We pitch, we talk and it never comes to anything,”
Lana told Lillian, “We’re not going to be forgotten, We’re going to fight for our careers. We’re going to knock on Vince McMahon’s door and fight for it. If you do not fight for your career, you will be lost. We’re going to do everything possible. If it’s not meant to be, we’re going to look back and say, ‘We did everything possible.’ And if that was the way the journey was supposed to go, then that’s the way it was supposed to go.”
The story line direction for the couple at this past Royal Rumble fueled their frustrations even more. Rusev lost his United States Championship title to Nakamura in a kickoff show match. As for Lana, she was once again used as a prop to get Becky Lynch into the women’s Royal Rumble match. She was “injured” during the the kickoff match and was unable to compete in the women’s Rumble.
Even though Lana began her career as a valet for Rusev, she has shown dedication and passion to learn to become a professional wrestler. She may not be in the category as a Becky Lynch or Charlotte, but she deserves more than what has been handed to her.
