Saraya Announces AEW Departure

Saraya has been heavily in the news lately with a lot of interviews surrounding her. Everything between her future in the ring, her time with AEW, if she would return to WWE, and promoting her new book have been topics. Even after mentioning that she doesn’t believe she would get the match everyone was waiting for between herself and Mercedes Mone in AEW, she has officially announced her departure from the company. This news was obtained from Saraya’s new podcast and followed up by Entertainment Weekly. Saraya’s podcast, Rulebreakers starts this Thursday, March 27.

“I’m here to tell you that me and AEW’s relationship has come to an end,” Saraya says in the first episode of the podcast. “I had an amazing time there. There’s no bad blood between us. I had such a magical time.”

Saraya has been off of AEW TV for many months for personal reasons. She seems to want to take a step back from wrestling and see what may be next, whether she continues with the industry or not.

“And then I got to thinking — what is there left for me to do in wrestling right now? Right now, there’s really no storylines where I would fit in.” She also clarifies that her departure has “nothing to do” with AEW founder Tony Khan. “It’s just me thinking that I just don’t fit in right now. I feel like I might be taking someone else’s spot, someone who could be doing something really special,” she says.

She thanks AEW and AEW fans –

“Thank you, AEW. Thank you to the AEW fans — I loved my f—ing time there,” she says. “Tony’s f—ing awesome. And anyone that goes to work there will just enjoy their time. It’s just great. And I’ll miss the girls’ locker room. I’ll miss you, but don’t be a f—ing stranger! You know where I am. I see some of you outside the company anyway.”

Saraya joined AEW in 2022 and eventually became the AEW Women’s World Champion. She returned to the ring in AEW after she left WWE and had not wrestled since 2017 due to a neck injury.
