Raw Superstar Sasha Banks was recently interviewed by Sam Roberts of Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast where discussed numerous topics including her short title reigns, meeting fans in the airports and the Mae Young Classic.
*This interview was recorded prior to SummerSlam where Sasha defeated Alexa Bliss to become a four-time Raw Women’s Champion*
On her short title reigns: “I’ll be honest about something, I’m a three-time RAW Women’s Champion right? Which is awesome. Within a whole year I was a three-time Women’s Champion, which to me is a lot. But I’m a three-time, two week holder of a Championship. So that took away my confidence so much because I thought, I was like okay I lost the first time, that’s fine. Then I won it back and I was like ‘Oh, okay, maybe I can show them that I can keep it longer than two weeks.’ I don’t know was it something with me or they just want to keep on flipping flopping, I don’t know!”
On meeting fans in the airport: “I grew up a wrestling fan, so I knew that I wanted to meet all my favorite wrestlers. But always in the back of my head I never thought in my life to be like, ‘Hey, they’re gonna fly in. Maybe I should wait at the airport for like 12 hours at a gate. Hey! They don’t want any sleep. Maybe I’ll go find their hotel they’re staying at and let me bother them.’ Like to me, that’s stalking. I don’t tweet out what hotel I’m at. I don’t tweet out what airline I’m flying. I do tweet you what arena I’ll be performing at, so I do expect fans at the arena, and I’m so happy to sign at the arena, that’s fine because I’m telling you where I’m going to be at. If I see you in public, that’s fine. But when I’m at an airport at 4 in the morning and I see somebody with a carry-on and they open it with a hundred items of everyone and they’re bothering everybody to get an autograph, and I see it on eBay – that’s not okay to me.”
On the Mae Young Classic: “I was doing the Australia PR tour during that time. I was like, ‘How am I not a part of this?’ I couldn’t believe they booked it like that. I remember I had Bayley FaceTime me just so I could watch one match. I felt like I helped so much with this Women’s Evolution and that we were doing something so special with the Mae Young Classic and having women who worked their butts off for so many years just to try and get a look at by the WWE. Women you would never even think twice would even step foot in a WWE are in a WWE ring showing that women can do it better than the guys. I definitely know we can do it better than the guys, every single week we want to prove that. So the Mae Young Classic to me, its something so important and it shows the just fans and the company how far we’ve gone in the WWE. It’s incredible.”
