Over this past weekend, there have been some horrible and deeply uncomfortable stories that have come out from the #SpeakingOut movement on Twitter. Although any topic of sexual abuse is hard to talk about, it needs to be talked about. This particular moment involves WWE’s Sasha Banks and AEW’s Sammy Guevara.
A podcast clip has resurfaced and made its rounds on the Twitter social media platform. In this short clip, it shows from 2016, Guevara having a discussion about a match that involved Sasha Banks. Instead of discussing the topic at hand, Guevara responded that when he was at WWE around that time that he wanted to rape Banks. The clip can be listened to below:
Since this podcast has resurfaced, Guevara has taken to Twitter to issue an apology.
Banks has since spoken on the matter as well. She stated that she did speak to Guevara as he stated and she has had the following to say:
“Earlier I spoke with Sammy, he apologized and we had an open discussion. Words like the comments he made, jokingly or not, have absolutely no place in our society! I don’t condone or tolerate this kind of behavior. What one thinks is just a side comment can have a massive impact on someone else’s life, and can send the wrong message. We have to hold ourselves accountable for our actions and the words we say, and I hope this situation shows him that. I hope from this point on, in order for growth and change within our community to take place, we all can continue to have these conversations. No person, man, woman or child, should ever be subjected to a feeling of fear, or any unsafe environment. We all have to do better not just for ourselves, but for generations to come.
