Last summer it was reported that Sexy Star was leaving the wrestling world behind and trading in her mask for a pair of boxing gloves. Well, that’s not the case anymore. In an interview with Fightful, she clarifies those statements and says she’s not retiring at all.
At no point did I ever actually say [that I’m retired from wrestling],” Sexy Star said. “I think that was just miscommunication from several parties saying that I’ve quit. I have not quit wrestling, but we’ll see what happens. We’ll see what opportunities come my way as a boxer. Boxing and wrestling are similar in regards to being in shape. If I’m in shape and still training in boxing, then I can definitely come back and do wrestling. If I keep training, even though boxing is another sport entirely, then I think I feel comfortable enough to wrestle at any given time.”
Sexy Star has been active on the independent scene, appearing at a set of SHIMMER tapings in November and recently taking on Taya at Warriors of Wrestling in February.
Sexy Star has been one of Lucha Underground’s most successful stars, becoming the first woman to win the Gift of the Gods Championship and the Lucha Underground Championship. She is also the first female to compete in a steel cage match and a No Mas match.
She is one of Lucha Underground’s main protagonists in Season 3 as LU charts her journey from a battered woman to an empowered champion. Season 3 is expected to return from its mid-season hiatus on May 31.
Meanwhile, she is expected to make her professional boxing debut on April 22. But, no word yet if she’ll be taping for Lucha Underground Season 4.
