Hello all and welcome to this week’s edition of the SmackDown Redux! This week we have a rematch from Elimination Chamber, as Cameron gets a second go at AJ Lee‘s Divas Championship. Can Cameron bring the gold home to Planet Funk, or will AJ’s reign of terror continue? Check out the match below:
We kick off the match with both Divas in the ring, getting the big match intros. The official signals for the bell, and AJ snaps, brutalizing the challenger. AJ locks in a chokehold looking for the submission victory, but Cameron fights out and floors the champion with a huge jawbreaker.
With AJ on the ropes, Cameron taps into her inner Melina and unleashes a screeching flurry of offense, sending the champion reeling. Cameron charges at AJ in the corner, but Tamina gets involved, pushing her partner out of the way.
The referee catches the interference and ejects Tamina from ringside, but AJ proves she doesn’t need any help, as she finishes Cameron off with a kick combination, followed by the Black Widow to retain.
I’m just going to say it. I don’t think Cameron is ready for a title run yet. There. That being said, this is a nice placeholder feud until Naomi is ready for action again.
The Naomi/AJ feud had some good buildup and it would have sucked to see it dropped right before WrestleMania, so I’m glad to see that WWE is trying to keep it going for now. Hopefully, Naomi returns soon and we get that title match at ‘Mania.
In addition to the Divas action, we also got to see Lana make her first appearance before a main roster crowd:
