SmackDown Redux (November 26th, 2010): Black Friday is Dark Indeed for Michelle McCool

The moment we had all been waiting for finally happened at Survivor Series last Sunday. Natalya defeated Lay-Cool (Layla and Michelle McCool) to become the new Diva’s Champion and Beth Phoenix made her highly anticipated return. The possibilities of a Natalya title reign are endless, and there are some mouth watering match-ups in there to boot. But first, we have to concentrate on SmackDown and after Nattie basically sent Lay-Cool packing on Raw, the egotistical devious duo were not in great moods. Michelle took on Kelly Kelly in a singles match. Lets go see how it worked out.

Lay-Cool’s music is playing as SmackDown comes back from a break or something. Both Layla and Michelle have microphones, and Michelle is dressed to wrestle. She says that Lay-Cool’s music needs to be cut and mentions that neither she nor her BFF are in the mood for shenanigans tonight. Layla believes that she’s currently having the worst week ever and Michelle claims that Natalya has stolen the Diva’s Championship which is apparently property of Lay-Cool. They insult Natalya and complain about what happened on Monday night. Neither are amused that Natalya had them kicked out of Raw. Lay-Cool say that they hate Raw and then begin to talk about how beautiful the people of Jacksonville, Florida are.

Or not.

Lay-Cool claim that despite their recent setbacks they are still flawless and even though everyone else wants them to fail, they still have each other. Awwww. The girls start praising each other as Kelly Kelly’s music hits. The smiling hometown girl makes her way to the ring. Layla has started to spray air freshener around the ring and Kelly doesn’t take to kindly to it. She kicks Layla off the apron and immediately gets a kick roll-up on Michelle. The bell has rang, so this match is official. A furious Michelle bounces back up after the near fall and takes Kelly down with a belly-to-belly suplex. She hooks the leg for a cover but she only manages to get a two count. Michelle mounts her opponent and begins to slam the back of her head into the mat. Once she tires of that, Michelle kicks Kelly towards the ropes and begins to drop her knee down into Kelly’s back.

The referee forces her to back off and Michelle goes back in for more. She picks up Kelly and drops her stomach first across the ring ropes. The referee warns Michelle to get Kelly down and Michelle obliges by locking her arms around Kelly’s waist. She tries for the Faithbreaker, but Kelly smartly latches onto the ropes as Michelle attempts to pull her away. Michelle drops Kelly down onto her back and pulls her away from the ropes. She tries to hook her finisher in again but Kelly literally twists her body and pulls Michelle down for a quick pin!

Whoa. Kelly has won this match!

Layla enters the ring and a 2-on-1 beatdown ensues. Beth’s music hits and she’s quick to enter the ring and break things up. Layla gets the heck out of there but Michelle is caught up in the Glamazon’s clutches. Beth picks the ex-champion up and slams her into the mat via the GlamSlam. Michelle is out and Beth and Kelly celebrate.

Random Observations: First and foremost, Happy Black Friday everyone! The holiday season has officially kicked off and in grand fashion nonetheless as the ladies of SmackDown put together a nice little showcase tonight in their tiny amount of time. Lay-Cool had a fun opening tonight. Michelle demanding that their music be cut because they were not in the mood was great. They both came across as sore losers and I love the fact that they still claimed to be flawless despite their setback. Strong promo.

The match itself was fine. The length didn’t really bother me because what happened in the ring during said time was solid. Kelly has come a long way on SmackDown and she shared good chemistry with Michelle. A lot of times, Michelle fails to mesh with certain Divas but she complimented Kelly nicely on this particular night. Kelly’s reversal of the Faithbreaker was fun and I like the fact she got the win. I don’t expect a push or whatever out of this for Kelly, but I’m not going to complain about her potentially tag teaming with Beth for a few weeks.

Speaking of the Glamazon, how great is it to see her back?

I think we can all agree that SD had a huge void while she was gone and seeing her return at Survivor Series created a wrestling moment that I won’t soon forget. Beth Phoenix looked amazing tonight and I’m frothing at the mouth to see her feud with Lay-Cool take shape. They have a great history to build on and hopefully we can get some Natalya thrown in there as well. She’s an absolute dream tag team partner for Beth, and I truly hope that this leads to something big, down the road, between the two. Beth versus Natalya is the WWE dream Diva match; the money match so to speak. I want this to happen. I can’t wait for this to happen.

SmackDown definitely gets a “B+” from me tonight but if Striker doesn’t stop cracking those Kelly Kelly dumb blond jokes… He’s going to be in deep trouble!
