Salutations fellow Diva fans, and welcome to this week’s edition of the SmackDown Redux! This week, the Total Divas drama spills over to the ring as Natalya (along with her husband, Tyson Kidd) takes on Summer Rae (with Layla). Which one of these Total Divas will come out on top? Check out the match below:
Out first is Natalya, and we are treated to a backstage segment, showing Nattie getting pretty irritated at Tyson for talking to Summer and Layla backstage, which I’m assuming led to this match (Does Summer always just hang out backstage in her gear?). Summer is out next and out next and our Divas match is underway.
Summer starts off by piefacing Nattie, prompting her to go ballistic. The official breaks them up and Summer uses the opportunity to blast Nattie in the face with a spin kick for a one count, before going right into a bodyscissors submission.
While Tyson Kidd brags about himself on commentary, Natalya fights her way out of the hold and works up a head of steam, and unleashed some offense of her own. Tyson leaves the commentary table to “support” his wife, but inadvertently distracts her as she’s setting up the Sharpshooter, causing her to be pinned by Summer Rae.
We also got a bit of storyline advancement when AJ Lee was interviewed by Renee Young.
When Brie Bella comes up to apologize for slapping her on Raw, AJ acknowledges that she knows it was Nikki‘s doing. Before she can say much more, though, Nikki comes out of nowhere, blasting into AJ and knocking her flat. Nikki congratulates Brie for distracting AJ, but tells her she needs to be more sincere with her apologies next time.
Thoughts: Perhaps it’s because I have yet to watch an episode of the new season of Total Divas (Don’t judge me…), but this marital tension between Tyson and Nattie is doing nothing for me. As naive as it seems, I still view Total Divas storylines as a separate entity than the main product, so it’s a bit strange when I see the plots leaking over to the main show, especially something so personal. That said, I’m glad Divas not named AJ or Paige are getting a chance to shine outside of the title race, instead of getting lost in the shuffle.
Well, that’s all for this week guys! Until next time… “We’re using our words, Nattie!”
