This week on Friday Night SmackDown the new Divas Champion, Beth Phoenix (along with her BFF, Natalya), makes her first appearance on the blue brand as champion to face off against a former Divas Champ, Alicia Fox. Can Foxy pull out a win and work her way into title contention, or will the Divas of Doom show her how Pin-Up Strong they really are? Check out the match below and find out:
First out are Divas of Doom, who pose with the Divas Championship. While they make their way to the ring, we are treated to a video of former champ, Kelly Kelly, totally losing her marbles and snapping on Beth this past Monday on Raw. If Beth is feeling the aftereffects of that beating, she sure is hiding it very well.
Alicia makes her way out next, as sassy as ever and looking to pick up a win over the champ in this non-title match. The official signals for the bell and our match is underway.
Beth wastes no time going to work on Fox with a kick to the gut and a few clubbing blows to the back. Beth whips Alicia into the corner and charges her, but Fox fends her off with a double kick to the chest, before going for a sunset flip pin. Unfortunately for Alicia, she’s not strong enough to take the Glamazon over and eats a boot, before being taken down with a Glam Slam. After the match, Natalya slaps on her new Pin-Up Strong submission, while Beth grabs a mic and taunts Alicia, forcing her to cry.
Well, that was quick, huh? I expect to see Beth having a lot more squash matches in the next few weeks, (Watch out, AJ and Kaitlyn) to push her as a dominant force in the division. I see this happening until they meet worthy opponents, presumably Eve or the newly unstable Kelly Kelly, who will put an end to their reign of terror.
As for this match, it was too short to really have an opinion on. I know it was meant to be a squash, but a bit more effort could have been put into it, to be honest. If this is what we have to look forward in the next few weeks, I’m bored already. Let’s just cross our fingers and hope that Kelly goes psycho again, so we have something to talk about.
