SmackDown Redux (September 21st, 2012): Layla Ready for a Title Rematch, Aksana Faces Language Barrier

After losing her Divas Championship at Night of Champions, British Bombshell Layla can’t be the happiest Diva on the roster, but that’s not going to stop her this week as she takes on Natalya in singles action on Friday Night SmackDown. We also get treated to commentary from the woman who beat Layla at Night of Champions, Eve Torres. Can Layla work herself back into title contention? Check out the match below:

First out is the Divas Champion Eve, flashing her pearly whites and waving to the crowd. She joins the commentary booth and we cut to commercial break. When we come back, Layla and Natalya are already in the ring, ready to face off. The official signals for the bell and our match is underway.

Layla is distracted right from the start by Eve’s presence, which earns her the ire of Natalya. Natalya shouts at her to grab her attention and ends up eating a boot to the gut and a facebuster. Layla drills Natalya with a nasty looking dropkick to the face, before staring Eve down once again. Natalya takes advantage of the distraction and leveled the former Divas champ with a discus clothesline, followed by a few stomps for a nearfall.

Looking to keep the pressure on Layla, Nattie slaps on an abdominal stretch, and converts it into a pumphandle slam, but Layla wiggles free and rolls her up for a nearfall. Nattie rolls out of the pin and goes for the Sharpshooter, but Layla kicks her off, and struggles back to a vertical base. Nattie goes to lift Layla up, but Layla counters into the Lay Out to pick up the win.

Post match, Eve and Layla have a brief staredown, while the commentators hype their impending rematch to close the segment.

Also this week on SmackDown, everyone’s favorite Lithuanian beauty, Aksana got the boot from her boytoy, Antonio Cesaro. Check out the segment below:

Thoughts: Let’s face it, this wasn’t the best Layla vs Natalya encounter we’ve seen, but it served it’s purpose well. It continues the Eve/Layla feud and it keeps Layla in the spotlight as a top contender. I’m sure we’ll see much more between these two as the weeks go by, and “Who attacked Kaitlyn?” mystery heats up.

I enjoyed the Aksana segment for what it was. I’m hoping Aksana will latch on to Santino and Antonio will find a new Diva to aid him… *Insert NXT Diva speculation here*

Well, that’s it for SmackDown this week, so until next time… (in five different languages) Au Revoir! Adios! Auf Wiedersehen. Ciao! Goodbye!
