STARDOM’s Newest Championship: A Look at the SWA Undisputed World Title

A fortnight ago, STARDOM crowned Io Shirai as its first ever STARDOM World Alliance (SWA) Undisputed World Champion in Barcelona, Spain. This new championship joins five others within the company, but this one comes with a major twist.

What is the STARDOM World Alliance? This is a global network of promotions who all can host SWA Title matches, and have their talent compete for the belt. These companies are STARDOM, British Empire Wrestling (BEW), WWS Mexico, Revolution Championship Wrestling (RCW) of Spain, and French promotion ABC Catch.

In keeping with the international origins of the championship, the belt can only be defended when the match includes at least one opponent from an opposing country. This was the case for champion Io’s first defense against Kay Lee Ray two weeks ago in London, and will of course be the same for when she next defends the gold against Shanna this weekend in Japan.

The final rule regarding the championship is that one of the SWA Presidents must be in attendance for it to be defended. They are: Declan Kellett of BEW, Rémy Soulié of ABC Catch, Manuel Flores of WWS Mexico, Carlos Gasco of RCW, Rossy Ogawa of STARDOM, and representing potential title defences in the USA – Cheerleader Melissa.

A future challenger will be Santana Garrett, who the International Grand Prix held in London. Santana discusses that win and more in our exclusive audio interview with her. To preview that event’s DVD and ClickWrestle release, watch the following, brilliant MV below.

What do you think about this interesting new championship? Who would you like to see Io Shirai defend it against?
